I had high hopes after my parents saying what lovely meals they'd had there before. As we got there, there was no parking - a bit annoying when you actually have a table booked. Had to park away from the pub luckily in a nearby lane. Our table wasn't ready when we got there (the exact time we'd booked for) so we were told to grab a drink at the bar, except we had nowhere to really stand as as it were, we were already in the way. From observing it was noticeable that it was really busy and a girl near the till next to us looked visibly overwhelmed. Similarly, from just looking at the staff around, none of them seemed happy and this then ceated an awkward atmosphere from there for me. In my opinion it was clear they had too many people booked in. We finally got seated at our table 10 mins after arriving, again the service wasn't brilliant and staff didn't seem happy. Our mains arrived quickly which was great but they got an order wrong so we had to wait to get the new order, meanwhile other members of our party were eating theirs so we were all eating at different times. We then didn't get more veg to go with the person who'd first got their food so they were also waiting on that. The food itself was nice but for the price of the roast I expected more and more veg. Desserts were lovely. Overall, food was nice but wouldn't say I was amazed by it and especially for the price. I had high hopes from reviews I'd heard but I guess my experience on the day may have been different to what others normally experience. Perhaps it would be better to go in the week instead as it would be a lot quieter and staff may seem happier? In my opinion, they shouldn't have booked so many people in and shouldn't continue to do so if they cannot handle it.

This was honestly the best roast dinner I've ever had out!! I had the pork belly and it was delicious. Comes with a fantastic traditional roast selection, the portion is very very generous and each item had flavour. The service was quick, the staff were friendly and everything runs like clockwork. Couldn't recommend enough!

This is a place we have had on our list to visit. On this occasion there was live music on all weekend celebrating the Queen's jubilee, so it wasn't perhaps the best time to visit. Having said that, there was a large marquee set up which housed the music. On that point, the landlord had hired a first notch sound engineer to look after the sound. There was food available and the staff were friendly and helpful. The landlord himself was very pleasant clearly keen to keep his pub running efficiently. We will be back for a better and perhaps more relaxed visit. There is a large car park which embraces a couple of disabled bays. Overall my first impression was excellent and I look forward to another visit.

Eat here often, always great service and tasty food options every time. Good choice of mains and snacks, the steak ciabbata is delicious, in fact we havent had a single bad meal! Try the light bites as well as choosing a main and you won't be disappointed, great flavours and obviously a skilled chef. Lovely surroundings and friendly staff, always manage to squeeze us in when we forget to book.

What an amazing place. An absolutely beautiful pub / restaurant. A fantastic menu to choose from . Our party of 4 thoroughly enjoyed last night. Our first time since the renewal. Delicious food, a cracking ambiance, lovely atmosphere and superb service. Many thanks all. Brilliant. 👍👍👍

Had a superb meal here with a group of 6. The service was attentive and polite. The standard of food was excellent. I can sometimes eat a fair bit in one sitting (no I'm not overweight) but I really struggled to finish the main dish of steak burger and chips as it was so generous! I didn't eat any other courses either. The pricing is not cheap as you'd expect but it's fully worth it. I used to drink in the original bar years ago but admittedly I've not been for a while. Overall I've never had a bad experience during the past 15 years of visiting. Highly recommended.

The food is so delicious, I tasted my dads Onion Bhaji and it was easily as tasty as one from my local Indian. The roast was good the potatoes where the weakest but still nice the meat was so good. Only improvement I think would be that we finished eating but then where not offered another drink and we were there for about 40minutes catching up.

Food is superb. Friendly, laid back Staff but they are completely efficient and professional. Wirral lucky to have this place. But, yes, only caveat is that attached generous car park is, sadly, often over subscribed. Visit for a relative's birthday meal was a very enjoyable experience. Perhaps a Notice about nearby overflow car-parking would be helpful. But is it safe to walk? Citrus candles needed if you sit in, pleasant, outside seating area. Even indoors, we had to deal with a kamikaze wasp. But, truly a smashing place if you place good food over trivia.

What a fabulous time we all had here today. We had a reunion lunch , 20 of us and the venue suited it perfectly. As for the food , absolutely beautiful and great cask ales too. What more could you want.

Always like the steak pie option in restaurants, at last an actual home made steak pie, not usual huge amount of inedible pastry and very little filling. Fox and Hounds Steak and Ale pie home made pastry nice, filling cram packed with delicious tender beef. Lovely cauliflower cheese, mash and vegetables.

Lovely meal. Food fantastic, beer good too. Service was a little slow, but as we were sitting outside enjoying the sun it did not spoil the meal. Fully recommended.

Visited with family for my daughter’s birthday on a Sunday afternoon. Most of us had the Sunday roast and the meats were just melt in the mouth delicious. The meals were served piping hot and the veg was served separately on equally as hot plates. We all agreed our roasts were the best we’ve had anywhere. Staff were extremely pleasant. We also had the pleasure of watching and listening to a group playing and singing sea shanties that afternoon. The pub itself is lovely and we all will be returning for more of the same.

A perfectly "nice" place to eat. Like a lot of pubs now, it tries to present itself as a restaurant with restaurant prices to match but the reality is they are serving perfectly adequate home cooked, pub food but it just isn't restaurant quality cooking. It was busy on a Friday night and so the service was a touch slow but they were friendly and reasonably accurate. We were inside and the atmosphere was good but there are very few soft surfaces and it got very noisy to the point where you can only talk to your immediate neighbour on the table by turning towards them and "leaning in" - I would have liked to be able to talk to everyone on the table of 6 more easily.

Went for a Sunday roast . The food was delicious except the Yorkshire pudding, which was inedible. I couldn't even cut it and was so disappointed as just love a good Yorkshire pud! One of our party had the French onion soup as a starter and found it a tad salty and again couldn't eat it. But on the whole the meal was enjoyable. Our servers were very attentive, and we couldn't fault them. The place was full so a booking is highly recommended. Compared to other restaurants in the surrounding area, I found the price v quality not as good. Would I have another meal here, yes, but I think not a Sunday roast.

Visited with our family for Sunday late afternoon lunch . Waited for drinks ..one person's starter arrived after everyone else had finished ..waited for mains and drinks ...when food eventually arrived it was enjoyed by everyone . We were told we would need to vacate our table , no time for dessert menu then ?? ...very disappointed and won't be dashing back Had the service been quicker we may have had chance to enjoy a dessert ....

Lovely food, great service and nice surroundings/decor. We had the bread board, some olives and the belly pork fir starters/nibbles, then a ribeye, cod fillet and the steak pie for mains, all of which were flavourful, decent portions sizes, well presented and hot. There are plenty of options for both food and drinks, with a few nice cocktails on offer too. We'll be back!

Went here for the 1st time today even though I’ve lived in the area all my life. Had the roast turkey dinner.Without doubt the best I’ve ever had. Sticky toffee pudding for sweet. Absolutely fantastic and couldn’t finish it. Highly recommended

Second time I have been and whilst I can't fault the food the wait both times have been very long nearly an hour today and last August over an hour. Both times we have been told chef off sick and short staffed. I appreciate things like this happen but simply to say when we ordered there would be a wait for food which other places do, it would of made a difference and less likely to complain. Hopefully they can start doing that. The young gentlemen that served us was very nice.

Had beef shin in wine with mashed sweet potatoes - really tasty food all round! Great wait staff. A good place to go for a special occasion, but you'll probably have to book to be certain.

Went on Sunday for lunch. Very busy which is a good sign. Drinks a bit expensive. Staff all excellent, pleasant and attentive. The waiting on staff although young were very good at their job. We had the supreme chicken roast. Yorkshire overcooked on top but soggy bottom but very big. Potatoes lovely but not enough, gravy excellent but not enough, veg tasted very fresh and not frozen but not quite enough although you can get more free. Chicken slightly pink in the middle on one meal. We were in conservatory which was extremely loud but that could have been the party behind us. definitely Will return but will be trying the burgers as they seem popular.

Went there today for the first time since the refurbishment. Wow what a difference. The inside is completely new and modern with a traditional feel. We had the lamb roast dinner which was fabulous. I then had the Bread and Butter pudding. I can honestly say it was the best I've ever had. Staff friendly and professional. Definitely will return

Awesome food. Probably the best steak and ale pie I’ve had, and I’ve had a few! Dog friendly and they even brought some treats out for them. Recommend!

Booked for lunch on a Saturday afternoon, the pub was quite busy when we arrived, the waitress took our details and showed us to our table, we were sat in the conservatory area which light and airy. The menu ranged from sharer cheese boards etc. Through starters, mains, sandwiches and salads, we had starters and sandwiches (came with small pot of chips) which were all good, the wine selection was good, as was the beer selection which contained a considerable number of local breweries. The staff were friendly and helpful. Will go again

Lovely warm pub with amazing staff, the food is great and the steak pie is just the best I've ever eaten. Thanks to Bailey and Helen for being so attentive and friendly, they knock spots off most waitresses. It's well worth a visit.

Went to the fox and hounds from a Christmas meal with my family and even though the place was heaving we were made to feel very welcome and important to our server. If could give stars I would just for the staff alone. Also the food was lovely and cook from fresh produce. Amazing can't wait to go again. ******

Just spent my Birthday here, my first time to this restaurant, and it won't be my last, the food was more than 1st class, absolutely delicious. The service was quick and friendly and willing to go that extra mile. The interior was comfortable. If I could give more than 5 stars I would do.

Used to absolutely love this pub and have been put off by the complete change of character since its refurb a few years back. Meal was good and the sorbet for dessert was excellent. Staff were relatively friendly, bar one who was a good laugh. He was great. Nice selection of beers on tap as always. Glad they kept the snug!

My wife and I visited with friends on Sunday the 18th as a birthday get together, I was 63 on the 19th , what can I say , it was just the perfect afternoon. Great company, the food was absolutely fantastic, big log fire 🔥 world cup on the TV. And then a birthday cake 🎂 and at my age it meant a lot! Brought a tear to my eye !! And also need to mention the staff , a credit to the Fox and Hounds 👍 Will definitely be returning. 😊
