My daughter and her partner hired the marquee for my granddaughters 2nd birthday family get together. It’s a really nicely decorated space. Plenty of daylight. There are heaters up on the walls if needed. We had the basic buffet which was perfect and plenty for the guests. Really pleasant room and the staff were lovely. Will definitely use the marquee for future events.

Amazing atmosphere and great value! Monday-Saturday they do two courses for £9.99 and the food really hits the spot of a pub lunch/dinner. Staff are really nice - very accommodating. Dog friendly as well! Live music on a Saturday which always brings such a nice vibe! One of my favourites!!

The staff were really friendly, food exceptionally cheap, really tasty and home made! Our only downfall was the other patrons, who made it abundantly clear that my 14 month old had no right to be there and we felt incredibly uncomfortable. I know the establishment once was adults only, but given the fact they have highchairs now I assumed we would be fine. It's the first place we have been to that we came away feeling unwelcome and it's such a shame for the owners I imagine. I won't be rushing back with my daughter if I'm honest as from our experience most of the other customers believe only people over the age of 70 had a right to great service and affordable food. A real shame.

Usual good value pub fare . Large choice of food and a kids menu. I was on the soft drinks but noticed a couple of handpumps. Staff are friendly and attentive. We were in the gazebo area for a family event which was great for young kids.

Great food, plenty of it at fantastic prices. Got the bill and realised the drinks are not such great prices. Guess you can't have everything

There just happened to be a live band on at 9 pm. We were booked in for dinner at 7 pm. Had a lovely leisurely meal and stayed afterwards. We're thoroughly entertained and had a Fantastic night out. Shippons staff couldn't do enough for us and it felt very homely and friendly. Great crowd. Great night.

An outstandingly superb place!!! Excellent food at very reasonable prices!!! The atmosphere is welcoming and the ambiance is everything you could wish for. They even welcome dogs!!! It's advisable to book in advance as, for good reason, they get very busy. P.S. I would also like to thank Lynne again. She made our visit all the more pleasant. She was especially patient while I chose my main course.

Food was nice. Came on a Tuesday evening. We had hunters chicken, fish and chips, curry of the day and the gammon. I had the curry and it was pretty good. Really good value. Sticky toffee pudding didn't come with a sauce which was a bit disappointing.

We t to the Shippons fir Sunday lunch yesterday, it was a very nice experience, from the time we arrived until we left. The food was delicious. Plenty of vegetables, well cooked, the plates were hot so the food stayed hit longer. Staff very friendly and professional. A great experience. We are certainly going back. And we were not rushed out! Thank you. 😊

Went for a family meal on Sunday and we booked a table of 6 but apologised when we arrived as 2 people had cried off and the staff said this was no problem. The service was swift and mega friendly and to save all the messing around we had a tab. All our meals arrived quickly and were piping hot and my gammon was lovely, the fish was tasty and the chicken new yorker my stepdaughter loved. My mother in law couldn't finish her roast so she asked for a doggy bag and this was no problem. The pate starters were tasty with lots of toast and you could have died for the cheesecake! I cannot fault the service from the young staff and they were so friendly so we will be back so go!!! They had a baby shower in the conservatory and it was beautifully decorated and wisely enough the men stayed away|!

Was really nice in there I got the chicken curry it was nice but way to much veg. There is a deal we're you get a pudding and a main for really cheap. The chips were amazing. Would recommend the hunters chicken and the fish and chips. Probably would go again.

Wouldn't hesitate to reccomend this place. Food was very good staff are really helpful and the atmosphere of the place is very good. It's dog friendly and you get live music. NOT karaoke but a proper musician who can play properly and sing properly. We spent two hours having Sunday lunch and it was so lovely it felt more like an hour. The general standard of service and food in most places has nose dived lately but not in The Shippons . I'm very much looking forward to a return visit. Thanks

The Shippons Well I started going there just before Covid. And I have been going there on and off ever since. The pub is lovely and very friendly. The food is awesome value with two courses for £9.95. All I would say is (stop microwaving the dessert) other than that good. The Staff…. What can I say. Fantastic/friendly/efficient/ and pleasant. The whole package itself has got to be a solid 6/10 just the microwave food lets it down. But the staff make up that. Ps I would recommend the shippons for any family gathering. Might pop in for a pint see what it’s like at night

Gorgeous roast dinner and pudding. There were four of us, 2 ordered meat roasts, one had the gammon and I had the veggie roast. It was all perfect. We had two treacle toffee puddings and a cheesecake, which were delicious. Even though there was a private event going on in the marquee, the staff were still attentive and we had no problems at all. Highly recommended.

  • 3/5 Mo L. 7 months ago on Google
We were seated right in the middle of the restaurant with everyone walking by, which is not ideal and I don't think there really should be seating there at all. The vegetarian roast dinner was very good, as were the starters. My family also liked their main meals, although my dad said the meat was a little tough. The younger girls waitressing were fantastic. Very friendly, attentive and helpful. However, half way through our meal there seemed to be a staff switch over and then there appeared to be less staff. When it came to puddings, sadly, I opted for the rhubarb crumble, which was really awful- no other word for it. Stodgy, undercooked and totally tasteless- I've no idea how a chef could make such a disgusting pudding. My daughter had a waffle with ice cream which was fine. The food is very cheap here but if one course is totally inedible, then it's no longer good value. I did tell a member of staff about the pudding and she said she would 'feed that back'. However, we were offered nothing at all to make up for it.

This was this year's annual visit to the Shippons for my Birthday meal while cashing in on the Christmas menu. Today was asked to move the the marque. At first this seemed like a possible ill thought-out choice given the bonkers cold spell, and the temp was borderline cold/warm. But the staff were more than happy to switch on extra heaters and soon the marque became our own private Christmas wonderland. The food as ever was great and the prices you would struggle to beat anywhere else. What really stood out for my tonight was the staff. Don't get me wrong the staff the past years have been good, but tonight they were attentive, funny, friendly, and genuinely the type of staff you would dream to have working for you. A great little team and a real set of assets to the place. Hopefully see you for my birthday next year!

The service is immpeccable, food delightful, delicious & home cooked. 3 course Christmas dinner £17.95 amazing. Staff welcoming & honest, kind, happy in what they do. A warm, welcoming rustic & homely charm set in a converted old barn. Absolutely fabulous :)

A very disappointing day for sons christening. We had booked my sons christening at the marquee 2 months in advance after having great experiences here before in the restaurant & the marquee looked beautiful at Christmas time. We advised there would be 40 people attending including my family that flew over from Ireland to come. After an initial telephone call, a face to face discussion also & a final telephone call to confirm Option A buffet with the scouse meal as hot option for the extra fee, after all it is December & I wanted my guests to have a hot meal as well as sandwiches, all was booked for a set fee which we were more than happy to pay! We arrived and everything was great sandwiches came out until we questioned why the hot food was taking so long. It was now after 3pm at this rate. When asked when it would be coming out, the lady who I've seen in person twice & spoken to on the phone twice came out and said we never ordered the hot food. To make things worse she advised of a conversion on the phone about tea and coffee that never took place, I was never offered this option and insisted she was lying about this. To this she replied no it definitely happened which the most annoying attitude and snottiness I've ever encountered. It was 3pm my guests were here 2 hours already & I was getting extremely annoyed at what had happened, was so disappointing to not get what we paid for when we confirmed this 4 times!! We were been advised on this option with the added hot dish instead of option C (4 hot dishes) as we only wanted the one hot dish & everyone loves Scouse on a cold day. We ended up having people leave after this as no wonder why they were hungry, we weren't even offered discount, another option or an other resolution to feed my guests! we were giving business for nearly 7 hours with 40 people buying at the bar all day! To not been given the meals we paid for is an absolute disgrace & complete let down! If that wasn't bad enough even the smallest thing was a chore for them & the attitude of the lady in red top at the bar when I asked for a bin liner to clean the tables & a knife for cutting the cake I was told why do you need a bin bag, you don't need one! I told her that the place was becoming untidy and people can't put their drinks on the table, her attitude was absolutely terrible. Overall it is so disappointing left a very sour taste in my guests mouth, even a few days later it is still so frustrating that the manager was making up lies about a telephone call, and not committing to their word & what I paid £300 for 3 plates of sandwiches. I know I won't be returning here which is a shame as it's very local to me & great food but to not even be given an apology or even attempt to make the situation right is distasteful. My only regret is not leaving when this happened as the fact we were even continuing to buy at the bar even annoyed me contributing to their business when they've let me down & my family travelling to attend.

Lovely place, nice food, we went after a funeral for tea and coffee, they have a small marquee for occasions like this, perfect with helpful staff, thank you

Service, reasonable considering how busy they were. Food, good selection as always and delicious. Drinks, hit and miss depending on what you want. We finally settled on a vottle of zinfandel, which went well with our choice of fish and chips. Would recommend a visit. We also found out they are doing live music in the marquee Sunday evening, will have to give that a go in the near future.

We usually go to Shippons once a month and are usually satisfied but this time the fish and chips was so disappointing I and my friend sent ours back very little fish and to much batter. We did explain the reason but even the replacement was just the same. Little fish and lots of hard batter.

The Shippons is a great venue for the catering after a funeral. We had booked afternoon teas for up to 40 people and the food was of good quality. The staff and service was excellent making things very easy after the funeral. Thank you so much!

Decore of this pub was absolutely lovely, very cozy and clean;food on the other hand, ordered a fish cake to start which was just a cheap frozen fish cake that they just warmed up, was not very pleased as I can buy better ones in lidl or aldi for a third of the price. Carbonara was so bland and tastless I could not finish and I rarely struggle to finish a meal. Dessert on the other hand was delicious but they had cut a pudding in half and just gave me that but charged me for a whole pudding..... wouldn't mind but for the price, it seemed abit ridiculous to be paying that much for something just very meadiocur....definitely wouldn't go back.

I booked a table for 4 a few days before we went for our meal and had no problem booking. The man who took my booking was efficient and polite. Fast forward to the day of the meal. We arrived at 6:25 to find our table was ready! We were sat at a table and told when we arrived that the light fitting was quite low and to be careful when getting up and down. Our party consisted on me and mybpartner, my mother (who is carrying oxygen) and her sister, my auntie, who had come home to the Wirral for a flying visit and was her last day!! We were all rather impressed with the range of food on offer and struggled to pick a meal as there was so many lovely sounding dishes to choose from. We made our choices and our starters arrived quickly! Piping hot and delicious. Mum had the soup, which was Beef and veg and ate every mouth full. I had my fave, Pate, and it was delicious and plentiful. The mains arrived not too long after we'd finished our dinner and they were huge. My auntie who had chosen not to have a starter was amazed at the size of the portion and how fresh everything looked. Everything is home made on site by the chef and you could tell how much care had gone into it. Mum had the braised steak, which is her favourite and her go-to meal, and after not having a meal out for 2.5 years there she was glad to see it on the menu still. There was 2 lasagne and a New York peppered steak too. All meals were piping hot and devoured by us. Where we sat we had prime view of a band setting their equipment up for a show later that evening. We decided to sit and chat and wait to see what the band was like before we left. My partner forgot the low hanging light fitting every time he left the table and banhe dhis head which was hilarious (the light fitting was free hanging so it didn't hurt). We had a good amount of time to catch up and chat (as my partner and I hadn't seen my auntie since before Covid) and then the band started. They were thoroughly entertaining and my mum and auntie especially enjoyed asking for the requests that they played for them. We ended up staying until the end of the night and had a ball. The band were called Los Amigos and played Spanish songs in the main. We were only expecting to have gone for a meal and a catch up, but didn't leave til 11:30 having had a thoroughly good giggle. The staff were very diligent and polite and nothing was too much trouble. It was a cracking night start to finish!!! My auntie is already planning on coming back when she visits next!! Thanks guys!! A brilliant night x

We went with some friends to Shippons for lunch today, for the first time. The staff were very welcoming, and had reserved a table near the door, which I had requested for mobility reasons. The menu choice was good, and at very attractive prices. Our order was taken quickly, and the food served equally quickly. The meal was excellent - well cooked, and very tasty. All the staff we met were extremely pleasant; all round we could not have asked for a better experience. No wonder you need to book!

Nice enough pub. Good range of beverages on offer. If the band they had playing weren't destroying every song they were trying to play we would probably have stayed for a few more drinks but went back to the anchor down the road to stop our ears bleeding

Was v disappointed with the level of food that was served. Couldn’t eat the roasts due to it being of such poor quality. There was nothing freshly cooked about it, therefore had to leave it and ruined my appetite. Friendly staff who understood me and my partners issue, however will not be returning.

Had our Ladies Group Christmas meal here. There were 23 of us in total. The food was excellent and the portions generous. The staff were welcoming, courteous and attentive and each course was brought to the tables quickly. It was a great afternoon for us and I can highly recommend The Shippons.

Overall very nice pub. Very friendly staff. Service was quick food was good. My hunter's chicken had to much bbq suace for my liking but still quite nice. Only thing that let it down was that they had no bourbon behind the bar.
