Superb. I spent a few hours here and it’s just awesome. Better than Tate, London. There’s currently a graduate exhibition that’s particularly awesome. Seeing the edgy 21st century artists exhibiting with the old masters is a unique experience & highly recommended. The buildings gorgeous & has a garden too. It’s got a gentle human feel to it; the staff are super friendly, the cafe is fab ( panini & salad excellent) I just love it! I’ve been to a lot of the more famous galleries in Europe but this one has a gentle rhythm that allows the art to take centre stage. Hugely recommended. You’ll find some real surprises in this gallery.

Nice at gallery and museum. Not very big but can spend half an hour or so here. Had a coffee shop inside too. Free entry and has a parking area next to it.

Very good gallery to visit, the Apollo Remastered exhibition is great, the other rooms are also very interesting. The cafe is reasonably priced and food is good. Della Robbia collection is fascinating.

Such a lovely Museum and art gallery. Plenty of space to walk around. Great little cafe and car park. I particularly enjoyed the Victorian furniture and model ships.

A small but really interesting museum, not too far from the centre of Birkenhead. There are several galleries inside with different exhibitions, mainly paintings, pottery and shipping. Also inside is a small, independent book shop that is quite well stocked. At present the cafe is closed but will reopen when they can. Parking here is a bit limited but don't let that put you off - go visit!

Fairly small but well stocked gallery with plenty of paintings, sculptures and other items, several of local interest. There was a ladybird exhibition on which was well laid out and very interesting. Definitely a local treasure worth visiting.

Brilliant free museum and art gallery in Birkenhead. There's a lovely collection of paintings, scale models of ships, pottery, sculptures and furniture. It's got a cafe, shop, free carpark and there's a little secondhand book shop in the same building.

I love the lightness of this gallery, so the works are shown with the respect they deserve. The present exhibition, Worse Album Covers, is great fun. There is a ramp at the entrance, a car park and a cafe staffed by volunteers. There is a book shop, and sales of artisan works. It is open Wednesday and Thursday 10:30am - 5pm; Friday 10:30am - 9pm, and Saturday 10am - 4:30pm.

Great local and free(!) gallery. Nice to see it so popular with people gather before opening. I went to see the Apollo Space exhibition, some great photos with the added sounds from the missions. Lovely, well priced cafe in the centre of the gallery. Plenty of events and things going on Decent sized, free car park around the rear of the building

A great little museum/gallery in its own right, with the occasional very special exhibit. At the very least a good a way to spend an hour when you're in the area. My favourite thing about it, though, is the little second-hand book shop that's in there! Lovely service, and a great selection of books every time I've visited!

Lovely compact gallery and museum. Interesting range of exhibits including Victorian showcase furniture and contemporary art. A bit of a rushed visit but I shall return for a more relaxed perusal... And it's free!!

My 3 year old little girl absolutely loves it in here. She loves seeing the artwork, the boats, sculptures. It's just a very wholesome, relaxing place to take her. And great for teaching her about artwork and to quietly appreciate things. There's also a small kid's play area in the café. One thing I think might be good to introduce are classes aimed at children and their parents I.e. even just drawing, painting. It would encourage a sense of community and I think it'd be the perfect place for such a thing. We'd certainly be signing up!

I've been there today for the Apollo exhibition. Add Williamson Art Gallery to your regular list of online updates as this small but special art venue deserves better promotion donations & funding as theres so much stuff happens there each year that locals & visitors would enjoy if it was better promoted! Also, the lemon drizzle cake in the cafè is bliss 🤗

Amazing place, we went to discover the bad LP art exhibition. It was so much fun we went around 3 times laughing our heads off. Though I will say some of the albums are really classic, Lothar and the Hand People, anyone?

I went particularly to see the exhibition Outsiders by Marc Davenant, but took the opportunity to go through all the exhibition halls. Lovely art gallery and museum, quite compact. The cafe was great, staff helful and pleasant, and the food tasty and not overpriced. Although entry to the gallery and museum is free, do please make a donation if you are able to.

An excellent display of the outstanding Apollo Remastered images. We were fortunate to be able to hear the talk by Andy Saunders, who was responsible for re-processing the images for the display and associated book. Particularly impressed by the way the gallery has added a series of questions for children to consider as they look at the pictures.

Not massive like some museums so not overwhelming. They have some great exhibitions that you can enjoy without the crush of too many visitors turning up at the same time as you. Just saw the Apollo Remastered - amazing photos.

My grandad took me here most Saturday mornings as a child. 20 years later, I am happy to see it still open showcasing fantastic art, pieces, and with a new cafe! I won't wait another 20 years to come back, even though I am no longer a local.

Wonderful hidden gem of a gallery and museum. Attended as part of a sustainability fair and will be back soon to spend more time in the wonderful galleries. Perhaps in t as hgh profile as some of the other galleries, but well worth a visit. Hight recommended

Really good exhibitions. The model ships are amazing. We really enjoyed the new art work on display. The worst album cover display was very interesting to our grandchildren.

In addition to the artwork, the Williamson is also home to a lovely little cafe -- its a very pleasant place to spend an afternoon :)

Love the Williamson. Always a good art exhibition. Lovely little cafe bought great slice of cake and coffee for £3 50. Not every gallery open at the moment but still a little peaceful browse.

Lovely stroll around the gallery. And lunch in the cafe. I just wish the council could afford to open more of the gallery's rooms and restart the community art classes that made it such a vibrant space before Covid.

Always a pleasant experience with interesting exhibits and a good cafe. Unfortunately the local Labour dominated council has been trying to destroy it for some time but there is a respite now there is a hung council, but check before you visit.

Busy here, last week of holidays! Car park still had room and spent a pleasant hour inside. Liked the Argyle Theatre display and the large model ships were wonderful. Della Robbia pottery is worth a look. Cafe was busy and the children around were looking at the ladybird book display.

  • 5/5 Pat H. 1 year ago on Google
Thoroughly enjoyed the exhibition about the Argyle theatre, in Birkenhead, great artifacts and info on the theatre, also the ladybird books exhibition, that brought back a few memories. Nice clean cafe inside too . Good way to spend a couple of hours..well recommend it .

The exhibitions were interesting. The cafe was a different matter. It seems their order wasn't coming in until today so virtually everything was no we don't have that. If the staff hadn't been quite so abrupt it wouldn't have been too bad.
