Merseyside Maritime Museum: As the most beautiful port city in England, any visitor to Liverpool must visit the Merseyside Maritime Museum. This museum is also one of the most prominent architectural works of the port city of Liverpool. Over many years of history, this museum as a witness has witnessed many ups and downs of Liverpool since its formation. Here you will learn extremely interesting details about the legendary Titanic.

I was shocked how long I was here! I thought I would be no more than a half hour as ships and naval history is not my jam but there is so much more that is appealing: the Titanic exhibit, the history of Liverpool Blitz exhibit, etc. And the International Slavery museum on the 3rd floor is incredible: moving, interesting and so well-curated. I’ll save that for a separate review.

Awesome!!! It was delirious for me when I saw the multitude of school children and their tutors and your guides at the Maritime Museum. This iconic and historic some is another practical school, richer than classroom history and theories. I am most pleased I came on a weekday to avoid the anticipated weekend crowd. It's fulfilling and exhilarating.

The museum is quite interesting. Each floor has a theme and it is really well curated. The aesthetic of the place has a nautical ship design which is cool to see. It connects well with the Titanic part and the nautical importance of Liverpool. I felt safe going around there with all the covid restrictions. They have plenty of gel all throughout the museum. However, the visitors don't use masks that much. I would advice to go for one and a half hour if you want to kill some time. I don't think it was super kid oriented or family friendly type of exposition, but you can still go with them. It is well located as well, seeing that you have the docs nearby.

The Merseyside Maritime Museum was designed by dock engineer, Jesse Hartley, built between 1843-7. And opened in 1980. The museum including, cartography, manuscripts including official public records, ship models and plans, instruments, etc. The admission is free, but if you want you can make a donation at the points of the museum. 😀 Tuesday - Sunday : 10:00 /17:00 Bank Holiday Open ☺️

A large museum which I only allocated half a day for. I could easily have spent longer than that here, especially on the International Slavery Museum floor alone. Good that this city acknowledges its part in this awful trade. Other highlights were seeing some items retrieved from the Titanic wreck & ‘Seized!’ - the HMRC section.

Good way to kill a few hours with the kids. Lots of things to see and learn, however all of the interactive stuff closed due to covid which was a bit of a let down for the kids who wanted to listen to the headsets or touch / interact with some of the displays

We really loved this place. So much history which we weren't aware of. A friend came from Peru to visit Liverpool with us, so it was our first time here, and we learned lots of cool facts. The Titanic experience is pretty interesting. Must visit if you are in Liverpool.

Free to enter but recommended donation of £5 (no pressure to donate though). Big museum with loads to see over 3 floors. Customs and Excise exhibit really interesting. Cafe was a bit rubbish - no menus anywhere and staff not particularly forthcoming but went to a food van outside the museum instead and then back in once we'd eaten. A few interactive things to do if you have kids. A good day out

I heard the museum had a history regarding the titanic ship, navigation, and the culture of seafaring so I wanted to explore I found the museum very interesting and full of exhibits. It provides a very good insight into the history of Liverpool. There is an area dedicated to the Titanic with real items retrieved/seized from the wreck. The area, Emigrants to a new world area was very interesting and it scared the life out of me. I spent around 2-3 hours easily. Highly recommend

Visited this museum today. Also there is International Slavery museum located inside. Anyway, the feature that allured me towards this site was legendary Titanic ship. In museum noticeboard there is a saying that it is the most renowned vessel in history. However, in my opinion, there are abundance in number of ships in our memoir that are enchanting or notorious in their own way. This particular ship got really prominent mainly due to the James Cameron directed "Titanic" cult classic film. This movie created nostalgia in our childhood and as a consequence the boat Titanic. Incidents regarding the vessel should remind us from time to time that no matter who you are or your construction, we are in fact a trifle infront of our mother nature.

Visited the museum this week and it surpassed my expectations! Absolutely lived visiting this free museum, I could have stayed here all day! The chap in the Titanic section with props seemed to know everything there was worth knowing about the Titanic! Also loved the drug smuggling section, it was amusing. Will visit again!

Very interesting museum, has lots of information and artifacts relating to historial ships, including the titanic. In the basement there is an exhibit around the history of smuggling, and the top floor is about slavery. If you're only going for the titanic then it's on the 2nd floor, though I found it to be a little disappointing as there wasn't a lot there.

Great museum free to get in with a £5 suggested donation it's spread over 4 floors. Multitude of exhibits about Liverpools connection to the sea from the Titanic, less famous ship disasters like the laconia and the MV Derbyshire the second world War and customs and excise If you not particularly interested in the sea I think its still a very good museum to visit and there are plenty of interactive displays Situated in the middle of the Albert docks there are plenty of bars restaurants and shops to make a day out

Titanic exhibition at the Liverpool Maritime Museum proved to be a profoundly moving and informative experience. This exhibition is a must-visit for anyone interested in the history and legacy of the iconic ship. As soon as I entered the exhibition, I was greeted by a sense of reverence and respect for the Titanic's story. The museum has done an exceptional job of creating an immersive environment that allows visitors to delve into the tragic events surrounding the ship's ill-fated maiden voyage. The exhibition provides a comprehensive and insightful look into the construction, launch, and eventual sinking of the Titanic. The displays feature a remarkable collection of artifacts, including personal belongings of passengers, items recovered from the wreckage, and detailed replicas of sections of the ship. These artifacts serve as powerful reminders of the human stories connected to the Titanic. One aspect that sets this exhibition apart is its focus on Liverpool's connection to the Titanic. As the city where the Titanic was registered and set sail on its ill-fated voyage, Liverpool played a significant role in the ship's history. The exhibition delves into this connection, highlighting the city's contributions to the ship's construction and the impact of the tragedy on the local community. The exhibition provides a wealth of information about the passengers and crew members aboard the Titanic. Through interactive displays, visitors can explore the different classes of accommodations and learn about the lives of those who were on board. The attention to detail and the depth of research are truly commendable. One of the most poignant moments of the exhibition is the memorial wall that lists the names of all those who perished in the Titanic disaster. It serves as a reminder of the human cost of this tragedy and allows visitors to pay their respects to the victims. The museum's audio guide is a valuable companion throughout the exhibition. It provides insightful commentary, personal stories, and interviews, further enriching the visitor's understanding of the events surrounding the Titanic. The staff at the Liverpool Maritime Museum were friendly, helpful, and clearly passionate about the subject matter. They were more than willing to answer questions and provide additional information, enhancing the overall experience.

We had a tour from Steph and a man. Steph has such energy and you can tell that she absolutely loves telling you all about The Old Dock Tour. I’d certainly recommend going for the tour as it was very enjoyable and informative. The museum itself was fantastic too.

I found the titanic exhibition very interesting, especially the facts and figures and the titanic model itself, but this museum has much more to offer for maritime enthusiasts and a whole range of ships / boats models and information, not just about Titanic. “A must go “ for all Liverpool visitors .

Not my thing, however my fiancé, he enjoyed it. Only downside is that some of the displays in the museum were really dark, so it was hard to read what was there, please consider lighting for people that struggle with reading? Highly recommend visiting though, it was interesting if you’re into maritime things.

A labyrinth of curiosity and interest. I got lost many times wondering through here and I sometimes felt like I was actually on a ship. I loved the basement section the most where it went into detail about smuggling fake items into the country.

Some museums bring on a deep sleep so boring they are. This is very much the exception. Really creatively and interactively laid out with many absolutely fascinating maritime exhibits, along with associated items like fake goods and weaponry seized on customs checks etc.. The Titanic floor section is an emotional and educational experience - particularly the footage of crew and survivors brought back and the Lost/Saved passengers and crew lists. We would have liked to have seen a lot more of the museum, but yesterday it was particularly hot in there, and my partner couldn’t remain because of the heat. Apparently it was an issue and the very nice and empathetic staff were aware of it, but there was nothing they could do. There is no actual charge to go in which I think represents excellent value. Given the interesting things to see and do there. They do ask for a donation (usually £5 per person) when you go in. Only downside, apart from the heat - they could do with better ‘way out’ type signage as it can be a bit of a maze in there.

Really great place to visit..!! A must visit place for people who like history, vessels, especially historic journey of Titanic, and other vessels that tragically perished in the waters. We all enjoyed our trip to the historic dockyard. Museum entry is free of charge, could take around 2-3 hours for a through visit. Parking is available in the dockyard or go the Liverpool - 1 car park.

Fantastic place! We spent around 2 hours here and honestly could have spent a lot longer just walking around. It's an extremely family friendly museum, and has great disable access. Extremely clean and tidy throughout the museum with plenty of hand sanitizer available. The gift shop was closed, which was a great shame as it holds a great amount of Maritime trinkets.

I cannot believe this place was free to visit! What an amazing exhibition, I could have easily spent a couple of days going around this place. Each floor is quite vast, to which we spent most of the day just doing the Battle of the Atlantic floor. This floor was not only informative on this subject matter but also on the whole history of Liverpool and Albert Docks. From its early trade history right up to present day. The whole history of World Wars 1 & 2 were most impressive and saddening at the same time. I would have loved to have done the Slavery Exhibition but unfortunately ran out of time but will definitely return to see that. The staff are really warm & welcoming and the whole place really is a treat to visit. If you have time and in the Docks area, it’s a must!

  • 5/5 Michael D. 2 years ago on Google
Wonderful exhibitions, still some no-touch stations, but did not distract from the overall place. Not from liverpool, but enjoy the history of the places I visit. It seems much expanded from my last visit 3 years ago. I knew I wasn't going to be disappointed and as it is free to get in with a suggested £5 donation, I put a tenner in the pot. Much cheaper than some of the exhibitions and museums I've been to in our country's capital. I want to say a big thank you to the staff that meet you at the door and explain how you can around. Also with social distancing being relaxed, it was so helpful that every one was respectful of others, including all the well behaved children.

Situated in Albert Dock which is worth a wee wander around. Good museum worth a visit. Covers Liverpool’s maritime history, various ships associated with the port and the shipping trade. Comprehensive Titanic exhibit (total content better than Belfast if you ask me). Few covid measures enforced in line with English government guidelines. Good cafe with nice basic menu not expensive.

Super museum I can't say I knew an awful lot coming in to this place about Liverpool s history. I never knew how industrial it was and how it developed over the years . Fantastic place to be and the Titanic exhibition was amazing, had me choked up in a few sections reading letters from survivors and the list of all who were saved and lost

Museum displays are very well laid out and exhibits are always very interesting. I only have one small issue - the gift shop has barely any room to manoeuvre a buggy (and not a large one at that!) Please can the layout be looked at to become more accessible for everyone. Looking forward to our next visit!

Good place to visit with the kids when you're around the Albert Dock. Some nice displays over multiple floors including a number of fantastic model ships on display including the infamous Titanic. There's a small shop on the ground floor and a cafe nearby. Free entry too! Only issue I had was the lights weren't working on a handful of displays. Well worth a visit!

The Merseyside Maritime Museum gives visitors the chance to delve into Liverpool's famous seafaring past. Visitors have the opportunity to discover how Liverpool became such an iconic port city, uncover objects from the sunken Titanic, learn about life at sea and explore Liverpool's role as a pivotal gateway to America.

Great Titanic Exhibition. I first saw the touring exhibition in Brussels where we were given boarding cards of 'real' passengers, only discovering their fate on our departure. I guess this interactive entrance used to be here. Exhibits are still in wonderful condition tho' some missing as they were 'elsewhere'. Plenty of interactive areas, some of which 'interfered' with others by way of volume. Overall a poignant, thought provoking exhibition that I will always enjoy.

Great setting for this museum at Albert docks and free entry! Interesting info about the Slave trade and the Titanic. Spend a good hour here.

  • 5/5 BigJeff L. 4 months ago on Google • 1 review
The museum occupies warehouse block D at the impressive and historic Albert Dock. The highlight has to be the focus on the Titanic which sank on 15 April 1912 and the British ship Lusitania which sank after being attacked by a German U-boat during World War I on 7 May 1915. A detailed description of the ships are provided. White Star Line which owned the Titanic was in Liverpool, so Titanic carried "Liverpool" on her stern. There are some impressive items to see including actual artifacts taken from the wreck. You can also discover the extraordinary stories of emigration to a new world and how many thousands travelled from the port of Liverpool. A must is also a visit to the sombre International Slavery Museum which is based on its third floor.
