Excellent place to visit with knowledgeable and helpful staff. There is always lots exhibitions on some permanent some temporary. At the moment the Tudors art exhibition is on show and it is so breathtaking it has to be seen to be believed just how good it is. All that history and spectacular paintings under one roof how privileged i was to see it. There is also a lovely cafe and souvenir shop on sight.

Home to some fantastic treasures. Wide range of art including paintings and sculptures on display. Some classic paintings such as Lowrys along with some recent pieces too. In addition to this, the building is well maintained both inside and out, staffed by welcoming people! There is a cafe and restrooms inside along with some items to purchase but admission to the gallery is free.

Really wonderful gallery - so many paintings - and some interesting features. If you love paintings it’s well worth a visit. I was very impressed and shocked by the slaves’ shackles in the classical sculpture gallery and appreciated the group who had made the intervention, and if they read this, I would have appreciated even more information and context.

Visited the Walker Art Gallery Liverpool on a very wet Friday afternoon whilst u had a few hour's free. I haven't been to this gallery in over 20 years so I thought it was about time I went again. I wasn't disappointed, the Walker is not only a beautiful building bit the various forms of artwork , paintings , sculptures and other antiquities are stunning beautiful. There's classical sculpture and contemporary art. There's so much to see you'd need a whole day to absorb and study the art works. I'll definitely go back and soon as I didn't spend long enough there. Its a free gallery although they're are some exhibitions you have to pay to see I think. If you're in Liverpool put the Walker on your list of must see places. 👍🏻

I am writing this critic while sitting inside of the art gallery, enjoying my capuccino and my marble slice of cake. Right at the center of the entrance, I have a precious view of some statues and the staircase making it the perfect place to rest a little and eat what I ordered. The art gallery is beautiful and has plenty of art works to see from different eras and artistic styles. It is clean, well organised and the structure of the expositions makes sense aesthetically. I would advice anyone to come visit because it is free, but also pretty calm and has a lot of cool small details that are worth seeing. From the Roman sculptures to the 18th century paintings, you can have two hours of peace and quiet among art and beauty. I am seeing some families here with well behaved kids, but I wouldn't advice you to bring your kids if they get bored easily or throw tantrums ... This ambience asks for serenity and elegance. Overall, is one of my (free entrance) favourite places to see and go in Liverpool.

This is a fabulous art space, BUT.....the only picture in room 7 painted by a woman, is high up, glass protected and very poorly displayed. You need to get your act together Walker Art Gallery. Be a bit more New York Met.

Such a beautiful place to visit while in Liverpool. The staff was brilliant. They welcomed me with a big smile and assisted me with the locker situation. The collections were not as extensive as what a museum would be, but it was absolutely wonderful.

Really enjoyed wandering around here. Beautiful art in an amazing historic building. All for free entry! It's very close to Lime Street station so ideal if you have some time to spend either side of your journey to/from the city. The cafe was good too. We were lucky and found a parking space on the road outside (pay at the meter or by phone/internet) but otherwise you are looking at one of the city car parks if travelling by car.

Absolute proof that there's a lot more to Liverpool than the Fab Four. This gallery is a wonder. Amazing architecture filled with some truly inspirating artworks. The sculpture room is just mindblowing and so photogenic. Stop for a cake and a drink in between galleries and help support the building too. Definitely recommended!

Ok five stars even though we did not have a huge amount of time to investigate. Stunning building......surounded by several other equally stunning buildings, friendly staff, some really interesting rooms, check out sculpture room on the first floor. Football exhibition was thought provoking and, for an oldie, funny....Oh the things we used to wear. A real mix of art from dresses to some modern stuff, I am not sure I got....but that is the point I think. Art is what you make of it. There is some parking out from but Liverpool is easy to get around and as far as I am aware access insode the building is ok. My lad said the cafe was grand and I trust him on food any day....and we met the author of one of the book on sale in the foyer....He was great! We could have spent hours but not our lad.....a little art goes a long way with him.

Superb even if you only sample free collection. Gems like the Albert Richards for instance. But check out the Bomberg and John Minton offering here. Some lush late Victorian nudes amongst statuary. But invest in Sickert exhibition. Well worth it.

Thoroughly enjoyed my walk around the Walker Gallery. Examining both sculptures and paintings reminded me of the expression, "out of sight, out of mind". Why? It's easy to forget how a beautiful piece of artwork makes you feel. Standing before the pieces you especially appreciate, you can't stop thinking about the skills of the artist, and wishing this sort of art be on display wherever you go, and not locked up in a building in a corner of the city for you to eventually forget about again.

Go see the Sickert show but do it in reverse order. See his later works first and work your way back to his youth. The later works are more interesting, subjects from newspapers, gridwork visible through his painting, fascinating to see how he constructed his paintings from sketches, all done according to a grid. It was better than I thought is was going to be.

Very nice way to while away some time. Interesting array of art, although as most of the paintings were behind glass it was tricky to see the higher up one's. Donations are encouraged on a give what you can basis. Art is for all and should be enjoyed even of you can't afford to donate. Pleasant experience, and worthy of a visit if on the city..

I was pleasantly surprised how much I enjoyed this museum. I’m more of a fan of Renaissance art (of which the exhibit was sadly closed) but the collection of 19th century and pre-Raphaelite and Raphaelite art is fantastic. Also I really enjoyed how, in the ground floor sculpture gallery, some of the 19th century pieces were counter displayed with the slavery history that supported this extravagance. The gallery wasn’t very crowded either. And for free! Winner!

Fantastic gallery with excellent facilities, coffee shop good for tea/coffee or a light lunch. The gallery has a great permanent collection of art & sculpture, with paintings dating from renaissance era up to the current John Moore’s painting prize. Really love walking around this gallery. It really has some wonderful displays. The gallery is clean, bright and generally quiet unless you come on a day when the local schools come. If that happens it gets very lively and lovely to see how the displays capture the imagination of the young ones. A range of eras and styles are displayed here and is well worth a visit. Travelling from London with a great excuse to the the marvellously presented Sickert exhibition and enjoy the gallery again. It truly does have some excellent pieces in its various rooms. There is always plenty of space to move and masks are observed without a request, but that’s Liverpool, nice, friendly and polite. The little cafe served choice cakes and coffee, plus homemade Scouse and soup. It’s easy to spend many hours there wandering and enjoy the place as there is so much to see of all sorts of wonderful things.

The Walker Art Gallery - A stunning place where Art is brought to life What is the Walker Art Gallery? The Walker Art Gallery is an Art Gallery that is located in the heart of Liverpool. It is set in a beautiful historical building that holds numerous Exhibitions and displays that take place throughout the year. Exhibitions Photie Man: 50 Years of Tom Wood Who is Tom Wood? Tom Wood born in 1951 is a celebrated artist who has redefined the way that we think about photography in Britain. This Exhibition showcases work from his archive from the 1970s to the present day. There is a great variety of photographs on display from portraits to beautiful landscapes. Most of his work was made in Liverpool and Merseyside. He lived there from 1978 to 2003. The Exhibition This Exhibition was well presented in that each room within the Gallery represented a different decade of his work. You witnessed how he would take black and white photographs to which this then developed over time by using different cameras with colour. His photographs are spectacular in the level of detail. In addition, Tom created unique relationships with the people that he took photos with. It was also brilliantly executed with a range of issues that was exquisitely shown through his work. His work dealt with multiple issues from relationships, families, the night life, New Brighton, the markets, the ship yard, football and more. Over more the Exhibition was not just simply masses of photographs but it was also interesting and engaging with written information and video footage of his work. It truly brought his photography to life in awe-inspiring ways. Highlights The main highlights from the exhibition were as follows: Tom Wood’s Looking for Love series where he took intimate photos from the Chelsea Reach Nightclub in New Brighton. Through these photos you gained an insight of relationships between people that would meet at that nightclub. Another highlight was when he would take photos of people on bus journeys. This was done through his Bus Series ‘Zones All Of Peak’. In addition he conveyed the atmosphere of fans at football stadiums both at Goodison and Anfield grounds via his photos whilst attending matches. Entry and Pricing Entry to the Photie Man exhibition requires you to book a time slot ticket online which you will need to pay too. Attendance to the collections at the gallery is free of charge. The prices for Photie Man – 50 Years of Tom Wood are as follows: Adult £9.00 Concession £8.00 Disabled Adult £8.00 National Art Pass £4.50 Adult National Art Pass £4.00 Concession Child 6-17 years £2.00 Disabled Child £2.00 6-17 years Disabled Adult FREE Companion Disabled Child FREE Companion For further price details for the exhibition then visit the Walker Art Gallery website. Facilities The Art Gallery has a café that serves a good variety of sandwiches and cakes. They also offer a selection of hot and cold drinks. It is reasonably priced. Toilets are on site. Access Entry to the Art Gallery is either by going up a number of stairs or via a ramp which is helpful for people who have mobility problems like me. Access to all floors is by using the lifts. Parking The Walker Art Gallery does not have its own designated car park however there is pay and display parking nearby. This is free for those whom have a Blue Badge.
