What happened to the Chinatown 🇨🇳 I knew & loved? 🐲 I visited this place a lot as a child and remember a thriving, vibrant, bustling hub filled with shops, cafes and restaurants 🎋 All that's left now is the ornate gate ⛩️ and a shop & restaurant which were both closed on a Saturday afternoon 😥 I do hope some sort of regeneration is on the ♦️ cards, as it's a shame to see it fall into decline.

Chintatown is well maintained and a very clean area. Although there very fewer restaurants there now. The Chinese supermarket there is really huge with availability of so many things. ✨ Chinatown is wheelchair accessible and looks even better during the night time. The Chinese New Year celebrations here were superb with various kinds of dancing, singing performances. Food stalls, firecrackers & also dragon dance. Plenty of fun activities for kids.

With the exception of the beautiful archway, there was really nothing else of note to see in Chinatown. Save yourself some time by taking in the arch via one of the open-top bus tours instead.

Chinese new year celebration Liverpool, plenty going on, lots of places to eat , had a bit of a fun fair and stalls, light displays , it's the year of the rabbit Rabbit is a tame and tender animal, and swift in move. People born in the Year of the Rabbit usually have soft and tender personality traits. They keep a modest attitude and maintain a pleasant relationship to people around. They will not be irritated easily, and they also avoid quarrels as much as possible.

I really love the arch, it’s a really magnificent structure (for any tourists, it’s the tallest outside of China). 🇨🇳 I wish that there was more Chinese restaurants in the area as that would make tourists stay longer and enjoy it more. 4 stars: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I went through lockdown for something to do as I expected everything was shut but people can’t help that that’s life therefore I will not be downgrading in the rating In Chinatown Liverpool it’s so great it’s like it’s it own little town in a big city with its own park, shop, houses, food eatery’s and housing association building it’s incredible Everyone around there is there own little community and I don’t want that to change therefore I would recommend visiting Chinatown you can pass somebody in the street and there smilly they’ll say hello or ‘Ni Hao’ or have a sit down and admire the view or bring a picnic to the park Chinatown is situated close to the Hustle & Bustle of the city centre I will definitely return again

Another great experience at Chinatown for Chinese New year. The dragon dance was the highlight and as always the entire district was full of red lanterns, fire crackers and cheer.

Liverpool is a great place to visit but making the 10 minute detour to Chinatown is a waste of your valuable time and energy. Apart from the big gate there is nothing, literally nothing. Day or night. Unless looking at a couple of street signs written in Chinese lettering is your thing it is utterly pointless. I am sure the locals love it this way but as a visit attraction, it is rubbish. I have added a picture of gate for you to download

I loved the beautiful gate at the entrance, but it is a bit underwhelming. Most of the places were not open, and the street was very quiet with not many people. I'd love to visit it again when it's busier and decorated for the holidays.

It is very sad looking. The only amazing part of it is the gate. I was there on weekday and even weekend too. Only 1 cafe and 1 Chinese Supermarket were opened. Hope businesses will regain soon after the pandemic.

Lots of Asian food and oriental style. I could get some Asian grocery. Also, quite peaceful when I visited there.

Everything was amazing! Except it's really difficult to choose what to do. Because there is lots to do there. Other than that, everything was great!

A very vibrant and colourful gateway that is really impressive to walk past and experience when in the area. A nice spot to stop at while exploring Liverpool.

I only went to pick my daughter up from a restaurant, but just to see the gateway it was well worth it.

Fabulous meal tonight in China Town Liverpool. Highly recommend this restaurant. Great service from lovely people and fab food. Had the set meal for 2 which offered variety and great combination of dishes.

Quite surprised to find the place is so derelict a street. China town gives us a general impression of vivid, and colorful. Liverpool is an exception. Tried the best decorated Chinese restaurant on the street. That's all of it. Never had a Chinese meal served so tasteless. It was cooked in a way just to rob you. Rice noodle was presented in small diced paste and not the traditional noodle form. Everything is so salty and oily. Will never go again.

Really nice authentic structures. Proper Chinese feel about this place. Issue is cash only cards not accepted. But this is case with most if not all Chinese joints

Nothing impressive, just a short street with one nice arch. Maybe during the Chinese New Year celebration it's booming with colours and emotions. but on an average day (27.01.2023) there is nothing to see & now where to eat as everything is closed.

Lunar New Year celebrations were fab, Nelson St was tightly packed though

Chinese New year is always a great event and no this year after covid lockdown is just great to see again. If anyone with sensory issues to noise to bring their headphones or defenders as it gets very loud with fire crackers.

It is said to be the first of its kind in an European city. Certainly has the feel of grandiose and the distinct Chinese influence cannot be missed. Iconic.

I think my imagination of Chinatown is slightly different compared to what I've seen. In general, there's just nice gate, a couple of Chinese restaurants which are closed or under refurb. Manchester one is bit bigger but still autistic as the Liverpool one.

Visited for Chinese New Year 2022 and it was lovely!

Food here is different elsewhere. I think it's the water and level of competition that gives it a distinctive preservation of flavour. When the skills and dedication are at high standards like in this case, you are guaranteed repeat visits. They ask you for allegies before they even offer you a seat!

I just felt something is missing here about chinese culture, all the restaurant looked too old to make us feel walking in. And basically only Restaurants and bars there which just have chinese look.

  • 3/5 Grahame L. 1 year ago on Google
Not much there really. Impressive gate but not a lot else. We stumbled on an event in the small park. We sat and listened to some music. Bit dissapointed by the area which was mostly shut.

  • 5/5 Isaac A. 2 years ago on Google
The area looked great. The big arch and the lampposts looked really cool. I went in the morning so I didn't get the full effect, but when I'm back I'll definitely have to call in to some of the businesses there

very beautiful arch!! the history behind it is amazing too! great place to take photos and the detail is absolutely amazing. real people from shanghai came to build this so this is really authentic. you can also find dragon statues around this area. there is not much of a town behind the arch , but only a few chinese desgined buildings and restaurants. there is also a really cheap, nice east asian supermarket far behind( the arch),with souvenirs!

Its not the typical China town you may have seen in other parts of the world. Its more of a nice neighbourhood where you will find authentic Chinese restaurants, also ropewalk is a must go if you visit china town.

Really nice place to visit being in Liverpool! Just need some street cleaning and fresh painting.

We had about a 20 minute walk there and was very disappointed, not worth it at all. All the shops were closed at 1 in the afternoon?! The only good thing was the decorative arch
