Magnificent 1000+ year old cathedral right in the city Center of Chester. Spectacular Cathedral it’s a must visit if visiting Chester. The design and stained glass is particularly outstanding. Nice pleasant gardens with ornate sculpture. Free admission, large indoor good cafe. No parking so follow city Center car parking. Definitely worth a visiting.

What a stunning cathedral! I've been there twice, it is worth the effort to see it. Really intricate design inside. Our group enjoyed seeing this amazing place. Even if you have visited many old cathedrals, you'll love this one.

A truly magic building, inside and outside. Very well maintained / restored. I found it very comfortable that you've access to a lot of spots inside, unrestricted for visitors. The most special and unusual thing I found was the sculpture of a modern interpretation of the last supper. You don't get it, watching it from distance. The mosaic is made from single pc keyboard keys. You just need to see this!

I loved my visit here. The additions of the cathedral in lego which was all done by donations and the model railway were nice. Also the tea room was impressive. The cathedral is a beautiful old building and well worth the small admission fee

The Christmas markets held around the Cathedral were ideally placed to enjoy the market and the rest of the city. Great selection of vendors and wares and in my option better than Manchester or Birmingham markets

Well worth a visit. An interesting mix of modern stained glass windows and original medieval. Quite a bit bigger than it looks externally. Definitely something yo visit if you happen to be in Chester.

The most beautiful cathedral we visited on our tour of the UK. It was magnificent! A history dating back to 1092 with amazing architecture and woodwork. A must see if you are in Chester.

Excellent cathedral, with stunning architecture and details. Highly recommended the Tower tour for detailed information on the cathedrals history, plus the stunning views from the top of the tower.

If you want to visit one of Britain's grandest cathedrals this is the place to go. Majestic on the outside and beautiful on the inside, whether your religious or not this building will leave you in a state of wonder. You can admire the majestic interior of the building or just sit in a quiet alcove and let your thoughts drift back into history to the times of the previous Bishops or even your loved ones of the past. It even has things for the children to see, including a duplicate copy of the cathedral which they are currently constructing in Lego. There is a shop where you can purchase religious artifacts and local jewelry and there is a cafe where you can get very good food at a reasonable price. You can also purchase a sandwich, drink or a meal to be given to the homeless, an excellent idea in which I participated. A visit not to be missed and if you can stay a few days you can explore the beautiful city of Chester.

We were pleasantly surprised by the cathedral and volunteers. Entry is by donation only, though at Christmas it is £2.50 for the Christmas trees. There are beautiful ceilings, floors, mosaics, stained glass windows, woodwork, and more to see inside. They are also building a Lego model of the cathedral, with people able to pay £1 per brick then actually contribute it to the sculpture. (Very innovative fundraising idea!) Make sure to check out the cafe - it’s an amazing atmosphere. Toilets, gift shop, and tours also available.

Chester Cathedral is situated in the downtown of Chester. It is a popular tourist attraction. The architecture, structure, ceiling and glass window are stunning. The place is full of history. Entry is free but donation collection box is welcome at the front door.

Chester Cathedral is a phenomenal place to visit, 7 days a week. With totally phenomenal grandeur, the architecture and just pure total beauty to admire is breathtaking, I was totally was. From the outside of the Cathedral does not look that big in size, but once inside it's as big as if not more than Dr Who s Tardis, and then some. With total breathtaking places to see inside, like the Lego model of the Cathedral is just spectacular. The main alter and lectern are specially lovely as you gaze in its beauty and size, directly in front of the alter are the choir stalls and dark wooden carvings, it looks and resembles extremely similar to the Carol's at Kings on Christmas Eve every year on BBC2, takes your breath away of its beuty. There is also a large bronze nativity scene situated in an alcove of a walkway there is also a cafe, and fantastic gift shop, which I bought a fridge magnet of a keepsake of my visit. Inexpensive cost to come in either a small donation or the option to pay a very nominal entry fee donation in way of upkeep of the building. A must place to visit 7 days a week at anytime between opening hours, and especially a very cheap and inexpensive place to come if you have a family and school holidays like half term Weeks in this cost of living crisis.

This Cathedral is wonderful and must be visited! The star of our visit was Emma who took us on the tour of the tower. Don't be put off by the number of stairs and narrow passages, the tour is broken by visits to balconies with views into the cathedral. Emma gave a concise, informative and clear history of all we saw. We loved Chester but the tower tour topped everything!

I have visited the cathedral several times and even attended midnight Mass at Christmas before but this was my fiancé's first time. It truly is a breathtaking piece of architecture to visit even if you're not Christian or religious. There was also a Hormby model train event as well as an incredible model of the entire cathedral and grounds in Lego! Very peaceful place to sit, light a candle and remember loved ones too.

What an amazing place to visit. So much history and so well presented, with brilliant staff on hand. Everything is explained and there is a lot to learn. Highly recommended for anyone interested in religious history, social history or architecture.

Absolutely stunning cathedral and it’s free entry. Lots of details about the history of the region and the importance of this cathedral. Nice posh cafe inside woth seasonal menus. The best highlight is the eagle wooden stand in front of the church speaker which looks like the owl one in the harry potter films.

Chester Cathedral is located opposite the Town Hall, with ample parking a few minutes walk away. Currently (August 2021) the Nave of the Cathedral is hosting a major model train display that has been two years in the planning. The Cathedral despite its visitor numbers always has space for those wanting to spend time in private prayer or reflection. The cathedral is a wonderful place to visit.

What an amazing exhibition and in such stunning surroundings. Pete Waterman even took the time to talk to us about the build process and how he got interested in train modelling, a real inspiration for our 8 year son who got his first Hornby train set only last week. I really hope to see this again next year 1🙏

This is the best cathedral I have seen in England. It is very large and beautiful both outside and inside. It is like a museum and quite inexpensive. We spent about one hour on the inspection. Here you can see a rare picture on a web, an old organ, silent bells as an exhibition, etc. Admission is just £3.

Amazing visit to a jewel in the Northwest area! Fantastic building on its own, but with the added plus of a model railway setup to drool over. Had a great day with great mates and heartily reccomended a visit to this wonderful cathedral!

We visited Chester Cathedral recently and annual Christmas event. This visit was enjoyable the cathedral has a lovely atmosphere and the church is a peaceful place. There are some lovely xmas trees inside and the history of the building is interesting. Even if you're not religious I'd recommend visiting any time of the year although at Christmas it's particularly lovely to spend some time away from shopping There are public toilets 🚻 and a gift shop. It's free to enter although I'd suggest offering a donation to support the upkeep of the building .

Beautiful place to walk through. It’s a donation of £5 to enter. There’s a cafe, toilets, garden and Lego area. They offer tours too. The architecture is stunning on the inside.

A very beautiful, peaceful place with a warm atmosphere. Lots to see. Tours available 11am and 2pm (free of charge) or enjoy at your own leisure. Great stained glass windows, mosaics, tapestries and art work. Currently there is a Christmas tree walk too and Nativity art installed. Great café and gift shop.

What a magnificent building. I just love cathedrals and this one did not disappoint. It is amazing that structure like this were built without all the mod cons, this one was started on 1092 AD by Benedictine monks.

We did the volunteer guided tour of the cathedral and it was brilliant. Our guide, David, who has known this building from childhood, was so knowledgeable about the history of the building and answered all our questions. He brought the history of the cathedral alive with his descriptions and stories, giving us a real sense of the social history of Chester through art, architecture, religion & politics. There are three of Robert Thompson's "mice" in the cathedral. We saw one; we're coming back for a "mouse hunt" to find the other two! The refectory appropriately houses the café, and is in itself spectacular with the most fabulous modern stained glass window set at one end, and walls full of generations of chiselled graffiti. Great selection of food and beverages, all very reasonably priced, with pleasant staff. I highly recommend this place, even if you're not the slightest bit religious like me. You shouldn't really visit Chester and miss out on going to the cathedral. You'd do yourself an injustice.

Really beautiful cathedral. We also visited York minister this weekend and they are almost opposites. This cathedral has a lovely red brown brick that is dark and moody. Beautiful stained windows and features around the place. During summer it is not free but the £2.50pp charge is very reasonable. In comparison York Minster is £12pp. They had a train display on whilst we were there which was great to see in use. Friendly staff and plenty of open space not crowded.

Went on a visit to this cathedral recently and didn't really know what to expect. Sandstone building with lots of intriguing features. Loved the figures at the last supper, all made with recycled computer keys. Lots of intriguing features that aren't immediately noticed. Hands cut off the statue due to ideas of Cromwell's troops! Lovely restaurant with quite an unusual window! Well worth a look....

Amazing cathedral! It is extremely well preserved, the garden is wonderfully coloured in the spring season and all the small details that compose it creates an amazing place to walk and relax. You have very old manufacts and modern ones, such as the LEGO (yes, LEGO!) model of the whole building. Something you think to be in another epoch while you walk among the beautiful columns of some of its rooms... absolutely recommended!

Really interesting history and incredible architecture. Everyone inside was very knowledgeable and happy to tell you all about the cathedral. Definitely a go to visit if you're in the city

Absolutely huge and beautiful cathedral. So many different sections to look at. Amazing glass windows and wood carvings in side. Definitely worth a visit. Unfortunately, we miss the free guided tours. The display of the last supper was unexpected and pretty amazing when you look up close.
