Magnificent to visit this club with its profound history. Very nice conditions even in March. Classic links layout with all that comes with. Will come back to take revenge on some of the holes.

Along with Carnoustie this is a wonderful, tough course for all. Not one bad hole. Much better than Royal St George's, we all agreed. Due to covid no Americans, so course very quiet. Staff and professional so friendly and a credit to the club. Had food afterwards very good. Also cheaper to play than Lytham St annes which we played the day before. GREAT AT EVERYTHING.

Pro Shop Review - I called to see if Royal Birkdale had stock of the Vessel bags they were advertising on line, to be fair a gentleman called me back promptly and explained although they didn't have stock they could order to arrive the following Wednesday, he suggested that I purchase (and pay) for the bag through their webstore and they would ship once arrived. The bag didn't arrive which wasn't a problem - I thought as much as I had experienced the same challenge elsewhere. I appreciate that there are availability issues outside of their control so this wasn't the end of the world, so no problem here. However I have since repeatedly emailed for an update/estimated ETA with no response at all which is dissapointing. For a golf club with impeccable standards throughout the remainder of the club, the lack of care and communication from the pro shop is a real disappointment (especially given I have paid for it!)

Had a wonderful time playing this course. It has a great layout and was truly a challenge. It is definitely a course you have to play in this area.

Of course its a bucket list course and so the butterflies were definitely around on the first tee. As soon as you glimpse the iconic club house turning off the main road it brings a smile to your face. We were met at the door by Ian who was rapidly enthusiasic to show us round and talk through some of the previous Open final round moments, it really built the excitement ahead of going out trying to do the course justice. Certainly for me Birkdale showed me its teeth and risk reward holes took their toll as I was drawn in. It is a fantastic design and weather was a huge factor making relatively easy holes punishing in place. Despite not posting a decent score I thoroughly enjoyed the round and left wanting to come back to test my skills once more, surely the sign of a great course. Condition as expected was very high, the greens were lightning quick and required a great touch around the greens if chipping in. Seldom will you see a club house so full of silverware and you could spend hours just walking through reading about all the collected memorabilia, a real treat.

We played this coarse on Aug 30th, 2018. It was in fantastic condition, reasonably fast greens and views were great. With a help of my caddie I stayed out of trouble, most of the day, but the deep bunkers I could not avoid. Ended up shooting 89. Jordan Spieth won the Open Championship here in 2017 after recovering from his wild erratic shot. The ball traveled into the driving range ...away from coarse play. No one had the yardage from where he landed. Now they changed the coarse by placing OB markers.

By far my favorite golf course in the Southport/Liverpool area. If I were to go back to England for a week I could play Birkdale seven days straight and be a happy man. Birkdale comes with my highest recommendation.
