Lovely location with a beautiful view. However everything that could possibly go wrong went wrong. We had a reservation and none of the roast dinners were available when we got there which we were made aware 15 minutes after ordering our food. The sole was off the menu due to kitchen safety issues. The vegetarian mushroom pasta had no flavour except watery mushrooms, and then fish alongside the fish and chips had copious amounts of batter surrounding it which simply had to be left on the plate. Possibly for a drink The Ship is pleasant to visit with the views however the food and the service was very very poor and not worth visiting.

Food is delicious but portions are small. Staff need training regarding what is on the menu because the waitress didn't know if certain things were gluten free or not. Lovely outdoor seating, beautiful view from the balcony.

I lovely spot. We really enjoyed walking around the Gardens. Plenty of different species of flowers & plants to see across alot of land and tranquil ponds. The views across the plain were lovely. We even had a snooze on the grass as the sun was shining and it was lovely and quiet. Just the birds singing and the trees rustling in the warm breeze. Very tranquil! There is a pleasant cafe serving homemade cake! Also more healthy options. I would definitely recommend a visit and would go back.

Check-in was great. We were given lots of information. The room was lovely. Breakfast was included, and there was lots to choose from. The food was delicious. Would recommend a stay there.

Booked a room here No 23 unfortunately next to kitchen vent ...50 dB sound level.. vibrating the shower screen ! Spoke to disinterested manager.who looked up reservation ...just 2 nights ! It's turned off at 21:00 ! 21: 28 it shut down...next night 21:40 so if you want quite time in your room before 21: 30 or so forgot it.....room could do with a makeover...the TV was so small had to sit on edge of bed to read app names my fire stick...not smart TV...no need for this today large screen smart TV's very cheap....

We had a lovely snack overlooking the estuary. We will definitely go there again. A pleasant half-day out for us, walking through Parkgate and enjoying the food and view from their lovely upstairs outside area. Even if it's too cold to sit outside next time, we'll still visit, and try the cosy-looking pub area instead.

Great location managed to park. Hotel looks fantastic after a recent refurbishment. Was looking forward to a Sunday lunch. Diane and I ordered pork loin roast, when it came it was cold, the roast potatoes where over done, green beans where hard, pork was tough just about managed to slice it, needed a steak knife. Both disappointed, on our first visit will go back to the Fox and Hounds where they know how to prepare and cook a Sunday roast.

We had a problem with our room which meant we had to move from the (potentially) lovely room overlooking the Dee to a much smaller room overlooking the carpark. I have to say that the situation was totally recovered by the staff who gave a masterclass in how to handle a complaint. They really could not have done more. We slept well, breakfast was very tasty and we will definitely return if we find ourselves back in the area.

Stopped by The Ship this evening as we ended up on a detour in the area. I had the cod & chunky chips (both the cod and the chips were massive) and my other half had the steak pie with mash. You could tell it had been freshly prepared. The staff were all very friendly. They also now allow dogs inside but downstairs only, so no sun terrace for us this time as we had our four legged family member with us. We’ll be detouring there again soon.

Has to be the best pub in the area - awesome location with far-reaching views across the mudflats to North Wales. Yes, expensive but you get what you pay for! Plenty of indoor & outdoor seating, good food and wide selection of drinks. Unbeatable on a sunny afternoon.

Newly refurbished. It has been done to a lovely standard. The room was really nice for a basic type. Very clean and great facilities. The location is perfect for exploring the area. Car parking is first class. All staff are very friendly and helpful. We will definitely be going again in the near future.

I like The Ship. It's a perfect Bolthole for me when I visit my parents. Great location and super views of North Wales. The hotel is about to under go major renovations. Can't wait to see what they do.

A memorable overnight stay. We got to the ship an hour early and they were able to check us in that little earlier which we appreciated. We headed upto our room navigating through narrow but charming hallways. We booked a double room which was nice and clean, presentable and spacious for an overnight visit. The decor was old but in keeping with the style of hotel, which was totally fine. A broken bathroom lock and bed that was quite creeky, but is forgiving as we have only come out of a covid pandemic. We headed out to the bar area to grab a drink and look at the amazing view. There was a good one way system and mask wearing policy in place which felt well handled. At the bar was a large selection of draft beers and bottles. We had a few drinks outside and observed the wonderful wildlife before our dinner reservation in the restaurant for the evening for a birthday celebration. There was a good selection of meals of the food menu, and drinks menu too. We ordered two courses, the starters took no time at all. The camembert sharing board was amazing quality and the artisan breads were very nice. Apparently the fish starters were wonderful. The mains came out in a good time considering there was a 20 min wait stated on the menu for one of the dishes we ordered. All the mains were delicious, we thoroughly enjoyed. Polished with bottle of red rioja which was so good! Were had the opportunity to move outside after food to have coffee and some more drinks into the evening as we watched the sun set over the wonderful river dee. The breakfast was adequate, quite slow service in the morning as it took 40 mins to be served a full English. But it definitely set us up for the day and our travels home.

Lovely looking pub in a great location that is let down by a limited yet very over priced selection of lagers. Paulander for £6.60 and Amstel £6.20... what a rip off! Cask ales are flat as a pancake. Limited selection of non alcoholic drinks. Parkgate is hard up for decent boozers.

Different experiences with different staff. We had to find someone to check us in and the computer was open with details for all to see. A bit annoying waiting to be served at the bar while the staff member continued her conversation for quite a while with someone else. We were inches away and we felt she could have easily done both. The room was lovely but the shower outlet was blocked with hair causing considerable backflow and although we took the mechanism out and left it on the shower floor it was still there later in the day. The hotel is tasteful largely clean and well maintained. Just a few niggles

This venue is probably the best we have stayed in. A very clean hotel, wonderful staff, top location looking over the Dee, good food and frankly one cannot fault the Ship. Many thanks to all the staff during our recent visit(2nd time this year). Highly recommended!!

Having stayed at the Ship many times pre Covid, we noticed a few reviews suggesting that the food wasn't quite as good upon reopening. Having stayed during early November we found nothing of the sort, the Ship is just as good as its always been, the remodelled bars and updates are also a huge improvement.

This pub/hotel has been refurbished during the last year and is a really nice place to eat and drink. The fish and triple cooked chips were really nice and the Shiraz was the perfect temperature. A nice table by the log fire on a cold November afternoon is definitely the right choice. Very helpful and happy professional staff too. What's not to like!

Had the pleasure of lunch at the Ship. Not been for a few years and how it’s changed ! Total renovation including an upper outdoor deck area , restaurant area also modernised. Food and service was excellent ! Will definitely return .

We didn't stay here, but had drinks a couple of times and ate here once. The staff are great, there's decent beer, and the food is excellent- a step above pub food for sure, and prices are reasonable.

I lovely hotel, staff were really helpful and made you feel welcome. The rooms were well equipped and clean - as the whole hotel.

In the end a disappointment-had high hopes for the ship -looks lively inside and out side -drinks aren't cheap -£6.95 for a 175ml wine -just white wine ! The problem was with the mains -wire had fish and chips -batter was a tad golden on the outside but still floury on the inside -so too hot a fryer -fish was OK inside -but would have been overdo d to get batter thoroughly cooked ! I went fir the 7oz steak burger -disappointed because they had drowned it in burger sauce -couldn't keep the top on the burger -it kept sliding off -and I had no chance of tasting the steak -because it overdid everything !! Overall a disappointment-they hadn't yet got to busy -so I don't know! Doubt I'll return to the ship again tho !

Cannot express how much we enjoyed our two nights here at The Ship. From the moment we arrived every member of staff greeted us with a big smile and a genuine welcome. We have a 5 month old baby and the staff kindly kept his medicine and milk in the fridge and collected it for us when we needed. The quality and cleanliness of the rooms, the view, tea tray, shower, car parking, location etc was all spot on. Breakfast was also really good, great selection available - overall we thought the whole package was great value. Thank you to everyone at The Ship we would 100% recommend staying here.

We enjoyed an amazing meal up on the first floor balcony area enhanced by a gloriously sunny day. The food is expensive and cooked to perfection, but you get what you pay for, and it was worth every penny to me. Service was very friendly and efficient and the pub/ hotel is fitted out to a high standard, with a decent amount of parking to the rear. The tables are nicely spaced apart throughout whether you choose to eat inside or in one of the three outdoor areas. We will be returning to this place for sure!

Exceptional hotel, really well decorated. Breakfast was excellent with lots of choices. Staff were really attentive & helpful. We ate our evening meal at the restaurant - the food was top quality. We cannot wait to return for a little getaway.

Lovely staff and great location. Beautiful area to go for a walk just not many places to eat nearby. Breakfast in the morning was lovely however, nice and clean and even some pretty decent vegan options too. The only reason I scored 4 stars instead of 5 was the noise from the pub and the vents from the restaurant was driving me crazy, just couldn't get a nights sleep until after the pub closed. However i think my room was placed right next to the air vents for the pub so it may be worth asking to move rooms ( I couldn't as the place was full)!

The Ship has recently reopened following a long renovation. The dining room was clean and welcoming. Dogs are allowed but only in certain areas. There is now a verandah as during the renovation they added a second floor. The service was good and the staff pleasant. The food was good but my husband and I had the selection of bread with oil and Balsamic. We were expecting different types of bread but all we had was some white farmhouse, The main courses we enjoyed were soft shell crab with noodles and fish and chips. Dessert was fine I had creme brulee which came with an almond pastry twist. Overall we enjoyed our lunch and will probably visit again.

Visited recently with a group of friends for a drink following the full refurbishment. The place was always attractive and well run, but now it is amazing with everything done to a very high standard. The quality of the interior is even better than I expected and the staff are so attentive and helpful. I was particularly impressed by the upstairs veranda area with its views out over the river Dee and Mountains of North Wales. Well worth a visit and bound to be very popular during the summer...

Love visiting Parkgate and to include a stay at the Ship for a birthday meal was lovely. We had a surprise cake for one of our party and they delivered to our table in a discreet but special manner. Shame the Ship is closed now for refurbishment until December!

We enjoyed our stay at The Ship. It's an historic building, on the promenade of a quiet coastal village, with a lot of interesting local and nautical-related art and historic photographs throughout. Our en-suite room was small, as one would expect in an old hotel, but very clean and comfortable. The staff were pleasant and efficient. The food was good and there was a great breakfast menu. It's an ideal location for visiting Chester, Merseyside & North Wales. Lovely views over the Dee estuary. We'd certainly return.

Staff very friendly, polite and attentive. The pub has a great admosphere and layout, very welcoming. Overall, the food was very good, a good variety on the menu too. I had the calamari to start which was a little overdone and on the chewy side, but still tasted good. The steak and ale pie was very good, as was the fish and chips, decent generous portions. Looking forward to trying something else on our next visit.

I wasn’t going to review but not even asked in the morning how my stay was. So here it is. Room next to what I can only describe as a washing machine on constant. Building work going on early morning very noisy with the builders belting out “coming in the air tonight”, then even though checkout was 11am the house keeper tried to come into room at 8am. Seriously! Need to sort out. Inc room and food I was rinsed for £158. Food though on a positive was great.

👍👍 Excellent fish and chips, batter on the fish was light & crispy and whilst I don't mind it, the skin had been removed from the fish and it was superb. Great view across the marshes opposite as well. Curry sauce was lovely to. Parking can be an issue when it's busy.
