Do NOT under ANY circumstances use this company. Our boat has been left in pieces and our dreams shattered. The so-called new engine that was purchased on our behalf turned out to be an old engine which is totally unusable (this recently confirmed by a reputable marine company with a full report supplied to us). To say that we are devastated by the state of our boat is putting it mildly. It had not been winterised (a simple tarpaulin would have sufficed) so the canopy is wrecked, the boat had taken on water and the seats ruined. Also, when we advised that we would be coming to collect the boat, we found to our horror that our boat had been left on its trailer outside of the yard with the so called new engine on a pallet by the side of the road - anyone could have stolen it before we arrived. The gate to the yard had been locked and the owner nowhere in sight. He is a disgrace to the marine world. Any correspondence was met with either rudeness, aggressiveness or sheer bad manners in ignoring our telephone calls/texts and emails. He owes us a great deal of money. STEER CLEAR.

Steve is an honest, reliable and highly skilled engineer. He has worked on our boat a number of times, recommend the gearbox, helped us with an insurance dispute, organised craning and transport and put us in touch with his contacts. We high recommend his services, and those he would recommend. A rare and completely reliable go to person for any problems we have who always gives us a reasonable rate.

We have just had a family trip on the Leeds Liverpool Canal and had engine problems. Steve from Altham Marine Services came out to us twice (once late on a Friday) and both times got us going and was very helpful. He was straight-talking and did exactly as he promised. We would certainly recommend him - as well as the Caribbean Bar and Restaurant, Calypso, he recommended to us at Blackburn. Steve Harrison was recommended to us at Wheelton, where we were broken down with a faulty gearbox. Steve recommended a new gearbox, as to dismantle and repair the existing (Italian) box was likely to be more expensive. He supplied and fitted the new box with speed and a thoroughly professional manner. It was not a straightforward job and as an Engineer myself, admire the way he accomplished it in adverse conditions. Subsequently he also gave good advice and answers texts and emails promptly. Good bloke. Came to replace a gearbox under warranty from PRM..... which cost me nothing, but sufficiently impressed me that when I needed another job doing I asked Steve to do it (and I had to pay this time!!!). Job done and a lot of useful information gathered too........ Steve's one of those people who will treat you the way you treat him.........!!!

Steve first came to see my gearbox issue at St Marys Rufford and gave me absolutely straight advice which I knew was the truth - not what I envisaged having to do but he was spot-on. I then visited his base on my ‘cruise’ over to Hull to have a full engine service and another check on the gearbox to verify that it did indeed have an issue which could only be rectified with a beefier box. He advised me how to treat the ailing original box to get it to Goole where he planned to change it for the real thing! True to his word he was at my temporary mooring in Viking Marine Goole before 0800hrs on the agreed day. He stayed overnight locally and finished the installation the next day. He was also very happy for me to watch his every move in order to learn more about my boat - this is rare these days. I tested the new box which works like a dream then a couple of days later travelled from Goole to Hull Marina and maintained an average 3.7 knots against the incoming tide working engine and box quite hard - neither missed a beat - a very pleased customer. I Would recommend Altham Marine services any day of the week - Steve is an expert, damned hard worker and good value for money and I would use his services again willingly.
