Steeped in history, the hill and the windmill are well worth a visit. There are many ways up but the quickest is from Vyner Road South, and it’s maybe two minutes from road to mill.

Great building, great views over Liverpool Bay. If you look at the ground near the mill, you will see a large 'X' in the rock, now filled with earth and grass. This is the footprint of the medieval Post mill that preceded the stone one. Look a bit further and you will see shallow marks in the rock where its guide post was set.

If you're visiting Bidston Hill, it's well worth making it up to the top to see this, the observatory, the little old lighthouse, and if you're able to spot them nearby, the ancient rock carvings, too! You'll also get an interesting view of both Liverpool and Birkenhead in one direction, and sea in the other direction, at a point around half way between the windmill and the lighthouse. There's tons of parking available for the hill, most of which will leave you right next to the Tam O'Shanter farm too, which you might want to visit if anyone you're with would enjoy a petting zoo!

Beautiful place for a walk! Very popular with dog walkers. You can walk up to the windmill and then continue on, passing the observatory and lighthouse (no longer in use) and from there see some spectacular views of the Liverpool skyline. Well worth a visit. Plenty of benches to stop and have a rest along the way. Also a great place for a picnic!

Good place to wander around, take in the views, walk your dog. Quite a large area of open green space so close to town. The windmill is not open to the public but is a focal point of the area. The bridge near the windmill leads into another large grass and wooded area. Would recommend an exploration.

Bidston Windmill stands proudly atop Bidston Hill, offering breathtaking views of the Mersey River and Liverpool. The ascent to the summit is well worth the effort, and sturdy footwear is recommended, especially on wet days when the ground can become muddy. Bidston Hill is a popular spot for dog walkers, and its seclusion makes it a haven for local wildlife. Unfortunately, as with many natural areas near urban centers, vandalism is a concern, particularly during the summer months when bushfires pose a threat. Immerse yourself in the rich history of Bidston Hill, where an ancient Viking sun god's location is said to have been, the Normandy D-Day tides were calculated at the maritime observatory, and the day of invasion was determined. And don't miss the opportunity to explore the Bidston Windmill, which opens to visitors on select dates. Consulte with the local council for current opening hours and arrangements.

The Windmill is open one day a month over the summer period. The time table can be found on the door. I went in a few years ago and it's great to say I've been inside. It's no longer functioning but it's full of history. Unfortunately wheelchair access would be a problem to get to the windmill. Various ways to get to the windmill, all walkable up and down hill.

Quiet spot, not too far out the way. Good running territory and one weekend a month it opens to the public.

A corn tower mill situated on the Wirral Peninsula. You can't go inside but it is in Bidston Nature Reserve. There has been a windmill on this site since 1596, a wooden peg mill was destroyed by fire in 1791, with the current mill built around 1800. It was a working flour mill until circa 1875. Badly damaged again in 1927 and in 2006 its roof was replaced. Very photogenic, as are most mills.

It's a disused windmill on a hill. Nice to look at but not open to the public very often

Nice little walk, relatively easy trails to follow but slopes can be a little tricky in places so not the best if you have mobility issues. Plenty of benches around the windmill and more a little closer to the observatory, clear views of the Liverpool skyline & landmarks. Well worth a visit 😊

Bidston Hill is great for walking running and riding your bike if you like rough terrain and trails. Lots of history. And have Tam o'Shanters a great petting farm for the kids. Great family day out.

Lovely little historical monuments. To be seen if you are out and about in the Bidston area. Free to see and interesting in the same time.

Such an historical structure on our doorstep. The woods are full of colour in early winter. Great views from the top of the hill.

Great place to photograph the windmill and Observatory. If you have a long lens you can even photograph Liverpool in the distance.

Have been going to Bidston Hill for over 65 years as a child to adult with children and grandchildren it has always been a lovely place to visit. Has changed a lot since I was a child there used to be a water fountain where you could get a refreshing ice cold drink in the summer.and little shop on the path on the way up where you could buy a homemade penny lolly ice. The views were more extensive when I was a child as the woods were managed by a woodsman who lived on the hill but it is still a lovely place . My dogs used to love going there to meet their friends and have a run on the car park meadow. Don't have dogs any more but still go for walks in all seasons. Visit the Tam O'Shanter for a coffee and a look around the farm. Sometimes see old friends with their dogs. Love watching the bats in the summer evenings and sometimes a fox. We have seen buzzards, kestrels, jays, green woodpeckers, tree creepers and the usual woodland birds. Swifts and swallows in the summer feeding on the insects. Yes it's a lovely place to be. We are very lucky to have "The Hill"

Great looking windmill on Bidston Hill in Birkenhead. There's also an observatory, old lighthouse, rock carvings and views across to Liverpool on Bidston Hill.
