Worse than a university accommodation. A few positive words about the place first. If you are a budget traveller, this is definitely a place that you could consider staying at. Very cheap; you can get a room for as low as £20/night. Also, the location is great. The hostel is close to the heart of the city. It is located on the border of the heart of the city and Chinatown, so when you leave the building, depending on whether you turn left or right, you'll get to your destination within 5-10 minutes of walk. And that's pretty much it. These are the ONLY positive aspects of Arena House. 1. If you are travelling heavy, cross this hostel off your list. There is no lift in the building, so I had to drag 30kgs of luggage up 3 flights of stairs to the room which I was assigned to. 2. Lack of hygiene in the private rooms & communal areas is just revolting. When I got to my room, I was shocked to discover the layers of dust behind the bed. There was a pack of bread in the kitchen cupboard that was encased with mould suggesting there were no cleaners present in weeks. The 2 bathrooms we shared on the top floor were rancid. The bathtub had dried (I assume) dirt covering the bottom, bins were overflowing with used toilet paper & hygiene pads and NO clean toilet paper whatsoever. And to top that, toilet water was leaking all over the floor. 3. Sockets in my room were placed behind the bed which is fine, so long you can move the bed and access it. This is NOT the case. The bed is fixated to the floor and you can't charge anything because the bedframe is in the way of the cables. 4. Poor quality of service. If you're lucky enough, you manage to get connected to a staff that is unresponsive but at least it's a staff member. In most cases, however, you can't reach anyone as reception closes at 4PM and they are not really handy with picking up phones. My final verdict is ... if you are a budget traveller, who does not mind spending a night or 2 in a messy, dusty university accommodation - YES, go for it; in any other case - NO, avoid it like the plague; I regret not spending a few pounds more to have a decent room and a clean bathroom/toilet facility that I am not afraid of using.

Great Location, Great Price, fair standards. Why pay so much for a hotel just for a short Liverpool stay, when you can get everything you need for a lot less! I know some people may complain about some areas, but you are staying in a hostel, close to the heart of Liverpool and great for those (like myself) who are from another city so if you are taking a night bus back then it is easy to even walk to Liverpool One bus station to catch that late night Megabus or National express back home. So no worries about trying to catch a bus late at night. The price can vary but it is fantastically convenient and great for when you need to get into the city or come back, so everything you want or need is nearby. The bathroom, kitchen, and common areas are all shared so it is no different to a big shared house. With many people keeping to themselves then if you want to take advantage of the large common rooms to eat your dinner and watch TV then fantastic for you! Plus broadband access throughout, TV in the room with storage space. My only real negative is the smell of smoke in one corridor - some naughty person smoking in room clearly and pretty much the good and bad of a big shared house (you meet nice travelers there too. Some may just rudely ignore you!). And laundry room, although I never had time to use it and just did laundry back home. And bring a towel. Otherwise you will need to rent one for £3! :/

Don’t be deceived with the cheap price and proximity to the shopping centre, this place is very awful. When moving in, a gentle man told me good luck, you are going to need it. The most accurate words I’ve heard in a long time. Tonight is my last night, thank God, this is the worst hotel/hostel you can ever visit. The communal bathroom/toilets are very disgusting and it’s obvious, they are hardly cleaned. I’ve been staying here for about a week on the third floor, without lighting in my room half of the time, without lighting, even the worst hotel/hostels can atleast provide light. The electricans have come over and temporarily fixed the problem and bow the lights are gone again for the third or fourth time. Imagine, going to sleep in total darkness 🤬, I’ve done that for three nights now. The WiFi is unstable and sometimes extremely weak. There is actually nothing positive to say about this place. Be warned, stay away ✋🏾

Best thing about this place is the price, it's so cheap. You get your own room. That being said the rooms are rather small and don't keep any of the noise from the street out, so you might struggle to get a good night's sleep. If you're drunk after a night out though, that probably won't be a problem. The kitchens can smell weird if you get one of the smaller ones as there is not a lot of ventilation. This however is not a problem in the bigger kitchens on different floors.

You get what you pay for.... You don't pay much, about £10-£15 a night. You don't get much, by way of cleanliness and comfort. It's the absolute bear minimum of requirements. Showers are truly terrible though. Beds are generally okay. Locks on doors and decent WiFi.

Few steps above a homeless shelter, bathrooms are atrocious trying to shower in the morning is is a game of the floor is lava, except the lava is piss pools and the toilets aren't flushed. But enough about the residence, the rooms are small but you can't complain too much for the price. They are quite loud; if you're facing the road, so I would advise bringing headphones or earbuds. The kitchen was surprisingly usable and even had a flat screen, but unless you're bringing your own equipment expect to clean it all first. Tl;dr: paid £11 quid, rooms okay, bathrooms not.

I would definitely recommend a stay in Arena house. As far as B&Bs + hotels go, you absolutely can not go wrong for the price. At £24 a night, I would have expected to get a bunk in a hostel, but the room had a single bed, TV with satellite, wardrobe and kettle. Really great value!!!! Only downside was that the shower is communal and I had to walk from there back to my room with wet hair. Again though, given the price, you can't complain at all. You also have to hire a towel, so I would advise you to bring one with you. Staff were all super friendly.

While the rooms are comfortable, the hallways often smelled and the bathrooms were hardly ever cleaned. There are only two bathrooms per floor with about 10 rooms per floor which is ridiculous. While it is cheap and you pay for what you get - and one of the advantages is how close it is to the city centre - something as essential as the bathroom should be cleaned every day at least once and not just once the entire week that I was here (that I actually saw)

Good location, rooms are quite small and contain single bed, wardrobe, desk, chair, shelf, heater, TV. Shared kitchen and couple of bathrooms on each floor. Two washing machines and dryers in the basement (costs £1-2 for a load of laundry). Location is great, and it's secure. Rooms are satisfactorily. Kitchens are absolutely disgusting! There is no particular cupboard or refrigerator shelf allocated to each room so I guess cleaners have no idea what belongs to who do food just stays there for months after people move out. I threw out a whole bin full of mouldy stuff (best before dates expired by several months) including liquified onions and tomatoes and solidified milk). Why not just label a cupboard and a refrigerator shelf for each room? Bathrooms not very nice either. I'll probably avoid if you intend to use the kitchen

😠 I came here first in January and the place wasn't bad, couldn't complain about anything. Then I came back here in November for a long let and it is definitely the last time I'll be going in there. The boss, who even fakes his own name was horrible throughout for a reason. I couldn't wash my clothes...

👍👍 I absolutely love this pub. Came in about 12:00am. Just been glassed in the Legion in Fazackerley. Got cleaned up in the bog by a beautiful blonde from Norway. Some fella took pity on me and shared his big bag of YAYO with me. Lovely touch. I drank so much I had to go the ozzy for detox. If you ask...
