An amazing 40 different gardens and woodland walk with a variety of different plants, bushes, trees and lakes, spread on 30 acres estate which are beautifully done and very well maintained. Lots of benches everywhere to enjoy this heaven on Earth place. There is also a mini zoo with very well looked after different animals, the restaurant with a good selection of sandwiches, cakes, snacks and drinks and very pleasant and polite staff and the gift shop. Although there are no ball games, frisbees, bikes or scooters allowed there. Also, keep your furry friends on a lead. Plenty of free parking, including disabled parking. We spend an awesome, quality time and enjoy every minute of it! It was definitely a great weekend choice!

Excellent display of gardens for a very reasonable entry fee. Park is clean and well maintained with plenty of facilities including a cafe, visitors centre and toilets around the site. Would definitely recommend if you’re into flowers and animals (& walking!)

Excellent gardens to be seen. There are some amazing displays and is lovely to walk around with plenty of benches tucked away. This is a college that allows visitors. It has a small cafeteria and also has toilets and is suitable for prams. Plenty of free parking

Marvellous weather brought out the best in.thus excellent facility. We took our 7 year old granddaughter and managed a full and varied day. We started with a quick orientation and then the mini zoo. This is very clean and pleasant with enthusiastic staff who give short briefings/viewing of their particular animals through the day. We attended the meerkat and the lemur ones. The scores of small gardens were glorious. The little competition with things to stamp enthralled our little one, as did the medal for completion. It was not that easy! Lunch was our own picnic, but we also attended the mini garden building event and did the maze so definitely needed a coffee afterwards!

We love this place. The price is so worth it. Animals, flowers, a maze, beautiful grounds, fairy garden, sensory garden. It really is a great place to go with children. Nice cafe too. Best time of year is summer but we go all year round.

This is probably one of the greatest places in London, both for singles and families and is easily accessible by car and public transport. Sitting in one of the gardens is tremendously inspiring. Perfect for students (to write essays or read) and anyone who just enjoys the sight of flowers and nature. Small children loves the small zoo and especially, the "treasure trail". You can bring along a dog, so your best friend does not have to stay at home. Above all, prices for drinks and food are very moderate and much cheaper than what is charged elsewhere. A membership is very affordable.

Went there for the Halloween trail. It’s absolutely wonderful for the kids. Ours 3 and 4, so wasn’t too scary and had all the activities they wanted, plus the sizeable garden walk is a real pretty site for adults to enjoy

Recently l visited this garden, and found a mixture of both informal and formal gardens that were interesting to wander around. I personally found the National Garden Centre part of this garden very inspirational, with its small well designed gardens. The price of the entrance was 7 pounds and l would highly recommend coming here. You will also find here a very good restaurant serving hot/cold food drinks etc..

This place is great! I only heard about it when I visited Forty Hall nearby a while back, and thought I’d come one day. It’s a huge series of gardens and landscaped areas, even with a small zoo. It’s a college (and unfortunately the catering reflects this!) and is used to teach students, however it’s open every day and a very reasonable seven pounds gives your admittance to a place so interesting and beautiful you can hardly believe it. Also it’s only a short walk to Myddleton Hall Gardens too, with a pub half way, so it’s an ideal day out with a lunch stop. Not the easiest on public transport, but worth the effort.

Mini Kew Gardens on your door step. Shame about the M25 being so close it would have been ideal without the tyre noise. Apart from that a hidden gem on the borders of Enfield and Hertfordshire. I would highly recommend the visit as you can easily spend a few hours here. The maze and animals break it up for the children and the fairy garden! Sorry about all the photos giving it all away but you know what to expect.

Capel manor is so worth visiting if you love nature, gardens, flowers, plants and animals. They host free open days for local people in the Summer but a discounted entry was enjoyed by my sister and I and well worth it. We brought our own food with us for an outdoor picnic, but there is a small cafe/restaurant on site that is simple and basic. Children will love visiting the animals on site especially the meerkats which are quite cute and funny to watch.

Such a lovely place to walk our dog. He is a bit nervous around other dogs but because of their all dogs on lead policy, it is a safe place to take him out to exercise. The flowers are amazing and every weekend something new is in bloom! Lots of lovely places to sit and relax as well.

Some beautiful flowers & plants over a decent size site.. but unfortunately a little neglected & untidy in places (especially the water features) which definitely detracted from our enjoyment & appreciation. Overall an attractive site with some nice gardens & beautifully stocked greenhouses. Poor signposting & mapping made it a little tricky to navigate. One for when the weather is good & perhaps earlier in the season.

We've visited these gardens several times over the years and always find new and interesting things to see. The gardens are very large, split into different sections so there is enough to please lots of tastes. There are beautiful plants, show gardens, ruins, water features and animals. You can easily spend the day there and stop for a picnic, either at one of the many picnic tables, sitting on the grass (bring your own blanket) or in the canteen. Perfect for a quiet stroll or for a fun packed family outing. There are stamps dotted around the gardens for young adventurers to discover and collect, just ask for a card at reception. Try not to get lost in the maze! On this occasion we visited for the Easter Egg Hunt. We had beautiful weather, which was a bonus. A bit disappointed that you had to pay extra for the bouncy castle and slide and for face painting but I guess it's to be expected. There were plenty other free activities to keep the kids busy.

Stunning gardens. If you are local to the area and like going to Kew gardens check this place out! I took the family here for the Easter egg hunt which I recommend, but regardless of it being an even day the grounds were stunning. The flowers, plant and trees on show were beautiful. There are a small number of animals here too. This is a perfect place for a picnic and to walk around taking in nature at its best.

Loved it! Very nice and peaceful. Little one enjoyed himself, he loved exploring! The maze was really fun which my three year old also loved. Definitely recommend taking a visit. There are also benches so perfect if you bring sandwiches with you. Lots to see, there is a fair bit of animals too, we also managed to see pony's!

Beautiful gardens and grounds.. lovely place to go with the family... kids had fun running around and looking for the stamps ( there are 6 to find and stamp your map). The animal mini zoo was a little bare maybe because it was a hot day and the animals were inside their houses.. but would have loved to see more. Also the cafe was not very good.. i would suggest getting your own picnic as there are plenty of beautiful places to sit and eat..

A hidden gem. Not slick; just lots of interesting gardens to see. I believe many have been transplanted from the Chelsea flower show, although the planting isn't at its prime. And there's a delightful small zoo. The restaurant is more like a small college cafeteria, probably because that's exactly what it is. Cheep and cheerful, with most of the hot stuff vegetarian.

Lovely gardens, although motor way noise terrible in some areas. But so many different garden areas a real treat.

  • 5/5 Zee N. 2 years ago on Google
Top marks! What a beautiful hidden gem. Lots of variety with show gardens, larger gardens, themed gardens, a maze and water features. The walled garden had a greenhouse with red and green grapes and we spotted a couple of butterflies there too. Look out for the large fishes in the large pond with the fountain. Well worth the £7 entry fee. Parking was easy and it was quiet at noon on a Sunday. Seemed to get a little busier when we left at 2pm but still nice and quiet. Would definitely go back.

Beautiful gardens, immaculately maintained. Very reasonable price to go in and restaurant on site. Also has a small zoo which is lovely.

Such a great set of gardens. Capel Manor seems to be a college and country house gardens all in one. There is an entry charge but parking is free and the restaurant is reasonably priced if a little basic. Of course, the gardens are the real star here and with such variety, well worth a visit. We also enjoyed the tiny little micro zoo.

Capel Manor Gardens are a smidgen off the A10 just inside the M25, the location serves as an inspiration for visitors and offers superb training via its education facilities. Parking is easy and free plenty of spaces and an admission cost of a fiver. The locale features a wide range of designer gardens from the dry Med, Diana’s garden, Japanese garden, suburban London and award winning Chelsea recreations. There is a handy cafe with outside umbrellas and extensive landscaped grounds featuring ponies and interesting student schemes.

  • 5/5 Arun R. 3 years ago on Google
Beautiful display of individual gardens and large areas to picnic or use their cafe. It is also a famous horticultural college for students but fully open to the public. Free parking just pay for entry.

We were one of the last to get married here before the events were closed back in 2017. We visit this hidden gem alot for more than just the perfectly manicured gardens. They have a small animal sanctuary, a maze,a river and a cafe. Perfect for spending an summer afternoon, whatever your age, whilst most attractions are closed.

After a hiatus of more than 20 years, I recently took the chance to revisit a childhood favourite. My abiding memories are of getting lost in the excellent hedge maze, running around the forested areas, and exploring the multitude of model gardens. Capel Manor have installed many new features in the last two decades, including a fake ruined manor house (with multiple laminated brochures dotted around on pedestals, advertising sections of faux-medieval fireplace, hauntingly broken windows and charming old turrets that YOU TOO could install in the back of your suburban semi!) and some newer model gardens. The rustic Provençal goatshed was particularly lovely. But sadly many of the gardens look dated or are a couple of years overgrown, and sections of the grounds are poorly signposted. It's too easy to wander into some half-ruined (for real this time) portakabins or neglected back areas, like the very dated fairy forest. Two gardens, walled clipped yew hedging, exemplify problems with the whole site: one is orderly, and cleverly arranged into a string of topiary-framed garden 'rooms', but six months overgrown. The other is neatly maintained, but blighted by an ugly, misproportioned layout that hasn't been reconsidered in decades. The canteen has a good selection of snacks, but the typical harsh sodium lights and dates furnishings of an institution more given to hosting school trips than to competing for high quality family outings. The shop is full of stock that should have been binned before I did my GCSEs. In a final sad note, the hedge maze was closed too, although in fairness this was due to coronavirus restrictions. The small but lovely zoo, the sheer copiousness of Capel Manor's model gardens, and the many instances of incredible design - the spectacular avenue of pleached lime, for example - mean it is still well worth a visit from next spring. Hopefully by then the coronavirus lockdown will be followed by some significant investment and a helping of volunteer enthusiasm. Capel Manor could do with both to bring it back up to date.
