We had an amazing time here! We went on a Sunday afternoon in July and it was quiet, so we had the chance to talk for a long while with one of the staff. They were so kind and answered our questions about their mead and the process of making it. The tasting flight was a great way to taste 6 of their current meads and get a sense of the difference flavor profiles. Definitely needs to be on your list of stops in Ipswich, MA!

Mead is amazing. With a ton of different flavor and subtle taste it’s hard not to have a couple of favorites.

Just an incredible delight. Staff was knowledgeable, helpful, and incredibly friendly. Just so generous with their time and information, to say nothing of the excellent mead! Well worth looking them up at your finer liquor stores, but absolutely worth the visit to sample their full catalogue and enjoy their charming company.

Have stopped at 1634 Meadery many times since me and a friend happened upon it a few years ago. Lack of physical space is all this place lacks. The tasting room is cozy, but too small for any meaningful social distancing, which is important in the new normal of COVID. Otherwise, the meadery produces exceptional mead, a few bottles of which I happily bought and drank with friends and family.

Amazing local mead made by friendly knowledgeable folks. I've stopped picking up mead when I travel because the best stuff in the whole world is made right down the road from me at 1634.

Wow what a find! Tucked away just off the main downtown area in Ipswich, this meadery took me completely by surprise. We had a flight of 6 meads, plus a taste of the sparkling berry mead on offer. Each one was phenomenal, from driest to sweetest. We ended up buying two bottles, and I'll definitely be back for more.

Small, but very interesting place. Never tried Mead before, but I got a great introduction to it, Emma took me through the different varieties, then gave me a tour of the fermentation area. I got to meet Dan the owner, got to use the corking device and even got to put wax on a bottle to seal it! Overall very nice time was had, and I brought home three varieties to enjoy.

1/28/23, wonderful atmosphere with passionate people. The attention to the details about the mead was wonderful and they could talk for hours about it. And also the meads great every flavor under the sun from dry to sweet and each one makes you want to try another!

Stopped by for an afternoon tasting after discovering 1634 at a local concert event. It was a beautiful spring day to sit out under the awnings provided, and Matt was prompt in welcoming our group and presenting our tasting options. We decided to try the flights for $12 which included a 6 sample variety. Matt was thorough and explained our flights with great detail, which we appreciated! We all enjoyed the samples and had a tough time choosing our favorites. We also met the owner, Dan, who was friendly and happy to share his passion, answer our questions, and told us more about their operation. Both Matt and Dan were gracious hosts and made our afternoon enjoyable! They also have a small bar inside for tastings year round. We all left with a bottle to bring home, and would certainly return. Highly recommend stopping by for a tasting and to pick up a bottle of their many offerings!

Extensive variety of meads featuring local ingredients. Very informative tasting available. Ask Dan for a tour, just like the one seen on This Old House.

Great place to visit! Visited once and became a member. Owner and workers are very knowledgeable about Mead and willing to teach. Try a flight, pick your favorite and get a glass. Great as gift as well!

Feels like an amalgamation of a brewery and winery. Uniquely cute. Everyone working was pleasant and enthusiastic about what they do.

This was our second visit. The tasting room and shop is small, informal and very friendly, and the staff know their products inside out. They make a wide variety of meads, at least two dozen, so there's one (at least) for every taste, and you can try as many as you like. They can't ship to where we live, so we'll just have to make another trip!

Great little shop with large variety of mead. Each mead is unique and flavorful. They use mostly local sources for the honey. Very friendly service. I left with the sweet Orange Elation and the floral Liberty after trying everything I could. I look forward to the sparkling vanilla-peach mead that we got to try. All flavors, even the plain, were dangerously drinkable in my opinion.

Excellent assortment of meads and the tour was very insightful. I went to the meadery with three others and we got to try about 6-7 different types of mead. We used a Groupon which included the tasting, glasses and a tour. Will be returning for more mead in the future. We even bought a couple of bottles to bring home!

A cozy spot with delicious mead. The distinctive flavors and notes of each mead were extremely impressive, and they have a wide range of flavors - from dry to sweet, fruity to savory. A wonderful stop on our way through Massachusetts!
