It was OK. I think they've made the most of it with information plaques and a planned route to walk. But ultimately its the remnants of an old wall, not a huge amount of it left and nothing else really there to see. If you're into British Roman history it's worth a visit but as a historical visit alone, I certainly wouldn't rush back. There are only two disabled bays and it was a little pricey for what was there: I think it was £10 per adult? Over-priced for some old bits of wall scattered about and some printed words on placards every now and then. And the staff were a little odd but mild and massively over-precautionary when it came to a "sheer" drop on one side of the hill beside the wall... My 60yr old father moved closer to the edge of where we were standing, to get a picture and an excitable teacher-like figure sprung into action and threw herself as quickly as she could over the lumpy field, mud shooting everywhere, hair flapping about like an old dishcloth and upon reaching him, flushed and sweating rather, firmly reminded us all with a fixed and serious gaze that there was indeed a dangerous drop quite close to where he was standing, which was reassuring because he had obviously already seen it and was taking pictures of said drop, so at least we all know he isn't going blind. And funnily enough, the photographs he was taking while she tried to catch her breath and I started considering CPR, had the sign which said "sheer drop" directly in them. She wanted to make it absolutely clear in that same firm and serious tone that should my rational, sensible thinking father decide to test gravity and throw himself from the dangerous drop, then she would somehow be responsible and would lose her job... I'm not sure what sort of sense that makes, obviously it does to her, to us it was confusing and strange and a little offensive for my ex-military father to be treated like five year old by someone who was wearing velcro strapped shoes. But, hey ho. It always makes for a memorable trip when you encounter unnecessary and bizzare behaviour! But anyway, the wall was fine. Solid 5/10. (See pic 2 for dangerous camera skills!)

Fantastic information onHadrians wall, with well preserved part of the wall. Museum is also very kiddy friendly with lots of activities for them. All site is doggy friendly too. Lots of walks you can do too if you want a longer visit.

Great piece of history and visiting Harian's wall if you don't have time to walk any of it. Friendly and helpful staff. Facilities and food on site and well as interactive activities for kids. Well worth a visit.

This site has a good place for kids to play around and see more about the Romans on Hadrians wall. This was our second visit and the kids loved to build the wall with Lego, try to signal on the wall, and see around in the museum built mainly with kids in mind. The tea room is a big plus. The staff are great and the site we like to see cause it has more time periods than the Roman.

Another part of my Hadrian’s Wall experience ticked off. Great place to come and learn more history about the Wall! This place has great clean toilets, a café, and a nice activity area for kids. You then come out to view the fort itself and it’s a wonderful area to take in views. Great parking for disabled visitors as well and fantastic discounts for disabled concessions even if you’re a non member of English Heritage. Good part of the Hadrian’s Wall trail to walk from too. I set off from here to the Banks Turret three miles away and back. Well worth a visit.

A good spot to see the remains of Hadrian’s Wall. The fort wall is enclosed and £11 per person to get in, which seems like a lot when you can see it from just walking around the outside. Cafe is also very expensive!

Theres a lot of history but the site is just foundations left of what was once a fort. Its not really worth paying an entry fee for. I was passing after it was closed and just walked around the side and in, it took about 10 minuted to see it all. They also want you to pay £4 to park on top.

Lovely, well contained site. Well maintained and a good starting point for walking along Hadrians wall. Had the usual English Heritage facilities, cafe and shop and loos. Reasonably easy to drive to.

If you just want to see the wall and not the old fort ruins, then just walk along the wall for free. But if you have the time, the museum is interesting and not expensive.

A very interesting part of our history. I enjoyed exploring the whole site. Worth the purchase of ticket and supporting English history.

The cost to enter is overpriced for what is on offer. There is a 3 minute video which was the best part for us which shows how the wall may have looked. There is very little left of the Fort & other buildings with some information boards.

Mum came to stay from East Anglia so it seemed appropriate to share some local history. I did my research as she's over 80 and walks with a rollator. All the staff we encountered were superb and super helpful. I was able to use the disabled parking right next to the centre and cafe. The car park is down the steep hill, so was not suitable on this occasion. If you're not an English Heritage member there are fees for parking. Mum was able to navigate all of the ruins and chilled out on a bench under the trees whilst I explored further afield. The information available allowed us to picture what the site might have been like back in the day. We took a stroll around the exhibition element which had some fabulous activities for children, including lego so they could build their own wall!! The accessible gift shop had a good range of practical, fun, and local products alongside the regular souvenirs. We had a lovely cuppa and snacket in the café. The facilities were ideal, all accessible, and you didn't need to buy a ticket to use the shop, cafe, and toilets either making it a perfect stop for anyone walking Hadrian's Wall too. There were a number of short walks available, with nearby sections of wall, mile castle, turrets, and lots of picnics occurring among the young families which was lovely to see. You can pre-book or buy tickets on the day. Pre-booking online is slightly cheaper, and members get free entry. I will definitely use the café facilities again and it's a perfect goto for any guests I have who want to visit Hadrian's Wall. Mum had a fabulous time too.

Cool little stop on Hadrian’s Wall. Quick detour to learn about different usage through time. Definitely recommended if your looking for some Roman history in the UK.

Walked to Birdoswald from Banks as a Plan C when our first two ideas for the day were not possible due to closures. When walking from Banks to Birdoswald the wall is mainly of earth bank type so not so much stone wall to look at. The stone wall seems to get going from Birdoswald eastwards. However there is still plenty to see. The walk was a pleasant if a bit muddy walk through fields. An alternative route is along the road which in February at least was quiet. The facilities (gift shop and Cafe) at Birdoswald were great, to the usual EH standards and prices. You can stand on the outside and look in or admittance to the ruins is about £11 - You can make your own minds up on that. The staff were all great despite us turning up pretty much at last orders, wet, muddy and tired, our order were taken by a keen young man in the coffee shop who had a really nice friendly way about him. The staff over in the shop were accommodating, friendly and kind. Special mention goes to the young lad in the cafe who who was able to answer our questions and make some good common sense decisions - fair play to EH for empowering him and giving him the latitude to do so - its the little things. Our initial plan was to walk from Lanecost to Birdoswald but a late start meant we started at Banks. Lanecost would give something to explore at both ends but make the walk longer. Parking is available at Lanercost and a small amount in a large layby at Banks

Great place to find out more about the history of the area and see a good chunk of what remains of the wall. Good (pay and display) parking. And the centre has a good museum , clean toilets and free fresh drinking water for hikers and dogs.

The remains of the ruins are fairly well preserved for being almost 2,000 years old. The visitor center and museum were very nice, and this is one of the best stops to walk along Hadrian's Wall.

Not a lot to see except for the wall itself, and quite a ways off the beaten path. Might be worth skipping if you're low on time. Would be neat if they could build a small section of the wall up to original specification (4 meters).

Very informative site with lots of posts around with information about the Fort. Lots of interactive educational boards, lego to build your own fort, bridges and hadrians wall as well as large arch building foam blocks. Lovely little tea room/cafe on site too.

An amazing place for a newbie to Adrian's wall. Fascinating facts dotted around the ruins. Plenty to see and will keep you occupied for a good hour. We travelled between her and the priory 4 miles away. The route is packed with sections of the wall. Turned out to be a great little trip
