Highly recommend! The staff is very friendly. We happened to come in right before the dinner rush so it was perfect timing. The food was made quick and tasted amazing. We got a Yummy Yummy sushi roll and chicken fried rice dinner and they did not disappoint. The gentleman next to us got a few sushi rolls and they put it in a wooden tray that looks like a boat. This is yet another place that looks a little deceiving on the outside but the inside is a really nice atmosphere. We were skeptical at first when we saw the place out in the parking lot even after reading the really good reviews but we tried anyway and we are really glad we went.

More for the vide instead of the food. Went there on a Friday night, didn’t have to wait. Ordered elm and California rolls, not impressed at all. The sushi rice was warm which I personally prefer cool to cold rice, so that could be the reason. Like the chef of the hibachi since he was working hard and you could be invited to be part of the performance such as holding sake with your mouth or getting broccoli from him. However, too much spices were added to the fried rice and noodle as well as the seafood & meat that we ordered. Didn’t feel good about that part. People would go there to celebrate birthdays but I would just go there once and for fun only. No Amex, and a lot of parking spots available.

My family and I ate here today. We were seated quickly and a waitress was quick to come take our order. The food all came out super quick and , as you can tell from the pictures I've attached, it was beautiful. The food all tasted good and was perfectly cooked and prepared. We left happy and full. We would highly recommend this restraunt if you want great sushi that isn't overly priced.

I arrived 4 minutes after lunch service when staff took their break to eat. I was the only patron inside the restaurant so service was immediate. I ordered hibachi steak- no vegetables in the fried rice. The language barrier caused the server to order steak and fried rice- no vegetables from the kitchen. The rice was dry with no flavor probably left over from the afternoon service and the steak was okay. Not worth the $40 spent

Passing through Macon and this place had good reviews. Not sure if it’s because there’s not many sushi places in area or what. But all the rolls are stuffed with fillers like avocado and cucumber instead of actual fish. Dragon roll you can see there’s hardly any eel. Philadelphia roll was nothing but a huge bite of cream cheese. I’d just stay clear from sushi in middle GA if I had it to do over.

Great sushi and a wonderful meal. We have never had any issues with Sumo like we have at other places in town. We enjoy every visit lunch or dinner. I recommend Sumo if you want really good Japanese in the area.

Had dinner and drinks with a friend recently and enjoyed my food. I had a fresh tuna roll, some vegetable dumplings, and a tuna cold salad. Everything was prepared quickly, looked lovely, and was very fresh. Overall a good sushi place

My second visit and still absolutely fabulous! I highly recommend the tuna tataki ! The spices and sauce added just the right amount of kick without overpowering the taste of the tuna. The chef's special tuna was excellent as well. Service was wonderful and mask/distancing was respected. This will probably be my go-to sushi place in Macon.

One of my student’s mothers invited me out for dinner at Sumo’s to show her appreciation of me being a special teacher to her daughter. I’d never heard of it, but met her and her 4 & 5 year old daughters there. First, I was so shocked at the ridiculously high prices. The saddest part was that kid’s meals started at $12 or more. The mother has very little money, so when she saw the prices, she ordered her a side salad, just lettuce/dressing. She had to buy the girls ice cream since it cost $3. She insisted I get a meal, so I ordered the shrimp fried rice for $12, least expensive item on the menu. It was simply awful! It came with Miso soup which was terrible. I couldn’t even eat it. It was lukewarm with a few cabbage leaves in it. Somehow, this meal cost over $33. I insisted on paying for the meal, but she gave a generous tip. I would recommend that you stay away from this restaurant.

Update 12/26/23: Celebrated my wife's birthday here tonight. Still just as great as it has been. I enjoyed the Sushi regular. Can't wait to do all you can eat Sushi. Old review: I have tried shashimi at several different places around the area and of the local offerings, the majority were subpar to mediocre at best. Well here comes Sumo to the rescue! This place is hands down the best location in Middle Georgia for sashimi and sushi. I had a Sushi and shashimi combo and Oh My Goodness! The freshness of the shashimi was amazing! That kind of melt in your mouth texture and goodness rivals any offerings from the big city places I have eaten at. Each piece of nigiri sushi was perfectly presented and very tasty. The California roll that accompanies the combo was good as well. My wife and kids had shrimp yaki soba, shrimp chahan, chicken yaki udon and a shrimp tempura roll. The cooked entrees were large enough for leftovers and everyone said their dishes were delicious. My daughter wolfed down her entire shrimp tempura roll and helped work on my combo. We had fried cheesecake, strawberry mochi ice cream, and vanilla fried tempura ice cream for dessert. All the dessert dishes were delicious. I will try the hibachi on my next visit and update my review then. I most definitely would recommend this place to anyone looking for a great Japanese restaurant.

I recommend this restaurant mainly because the food is delicious. I had combo scallops and steak. The steak was cooked well, I ordered medium. It was chewy and I requested the manager replace steak with scallops. Meal was delicious after replacing steak. Thanks to the manager. My friends ordered combos, appetizer and sushi, yum

Pickup order was 20 minutes late, gyoza was stone cold and the sushi was rolled very poorly. Over half the pieces fell apart as soon as I touched them. I’ve ordered from here before but this was a super disappointing experience that will most likely have me choose another spot next time.

First time eating at this restaurant and I must saw I was very impressed. I ordered the sweet potato roll with a side of noodles, and it was delicious. My husband had the salmon and shrimp hibachi with noddles and fried rice, and he left no crumbs, lol. Most hibachi restaurants we've been to don't give you the option to have both. We loved the food, our waitress, and the price.

Always great service and food. The portions are very generous we always share a plate and order sushi and appetizer. Leave satisfied and full . Had the chicken and shrimp hibachi comes with rice AND noodles. Soup AND salad. Also had the sumo shrimp with creamy sauce awesome amazing and mouthwatering. Spicy crab roll was also very delicious

Food was really good and once seated staff did a good job at checking back on us. Food portions were perfect and came out fast. The reason for 4 stars is the wait coming I the door there was no explanation. No one at the door to say, wait a moment, we'll be with you, etc. Other than that. Everything else was good. Did not get to do the hibachi due to the area being full.

Best hibachi I have ever had. The cook was amazing. The only reason I give 4 stars instead of 5 is because of the waitress! She only took our order than brought our drinks, she never once asked if we needed a refill! Then she was trying to give us to go boxes as soon as the food got done cooking! I felt like she was rushing us out before we could even enjoy the food! She also made sure to tell me that she wanted a 20% tip! You should never have to ask for a tip, it is very unprofessional and if you are a good waitress or waiter you know you will get a tip you don’t have to ask! This made me not tip her at all! I did however tip the cook $40 because he deserved it!

Not busy, Not expensive, No fanfare, and No frill. We passed it twice looking for it because it's so plain and unassuming from the outside, but DO NOT let that deter you from seeking this place out and trying it. They're selling there selves short by not lighting this place up to draw some attention because even when you walk in its low key and simple. You meet immediately your Hostess who seats you, followed by a polite drink order request from your waitress, be sure to take care of that right then because when you open the menu and start scratching your head at the vast selections and above-average complexity of the dishes you begin to wonder did they take money from the bells & whistles budget and put it into the food budget possibly?! Then you order, fingers crossed, receive your meal and it's borderline World Class and you've hit the jackpot.

So to be honest service was good and the restaurant was clean. I’m a huge fan or hirbachi but the food just wasn’t good to me, the salad was horrible because the dressing wasn’t good, the cook did a great job with entertainment but the food had absolutely no seasoning. We drove to 4 places to actually find 1 hirbachi grill in Macon cause we are fairly new here but I was not impressed with the food. The best thing on my plate was the thin noodles. Maybe I’ll try again and hope to get a different cook and as many reviews as I do I hate to give bad reviews. So my review is based mostly on the food.

Consistency- hands down the best sushi in Macon, always ready to seat you and the friendliest staff. If you are stuck with the long time local place ( I won’t name out of respect ) down the street, give this place a try and you will convert. They have Hibachi tables, a great bar, and regular dinning tables. PLENTY of staff members, great menu, and best sushi chef in all of GA.

Hit this place up on a Sunday evening, not too busy at all unlike the other restaurants around here. Decent ambiance, nice clean tables and place. Service was good, and timely. Got the hibachi scallops. Absolutely loved it, good salad and delicious onion soup came with the dinner, friend shared a piece of his spicey girl roll with me, and that also was good presentation and delicious. i want to come back for sure this week. Drink was good also, long island tea.
