We usually eat in and are generally pleased with the food and service; however, this evening’s experience has changed our opinions on the 611 as a consideration for a future lunch/dinner destination. Our to-go order was three meals; two with salad bar. After paying the cashier, we were handed 2 each of 8”x5”x2” one compartment, Styrofoam containers and Styrofoam 8oz? cups (for soup?) to get our salad. I asked the cashier if I could get a separate container for the hot food so my salad wouldn’t wilt and the cashier said I had to use the container(s) she gave me for everything I wanted from the 4 (salad, hot food, soup and potato, and dessert bars), food bars. When we persisted, she asked the manager if we could buy another container and he said we could get one for $3.99 each – which is the charge for another “salad w/meal”. I understand they have problems with people loading up to-go containers after eating inside to carry “extra” food home, but that was not the intent behind requesting another container. We were charged the same price we would’ve been charged had we eaten there. When we eat there, we get our cold salads on one plate, our hot foods on a separate plate, and fruit and desserts on a third plate. How can they expect you to combine ingredients from each of their four bars into one, 5”x8”X2” one-compartment container?! To make matters worse, the cashier didn’t want to give us a condiment cup for butter from the potato bar for our baked potatoes. She said I could use the prepackaged butter that’s included in the take out bag. A member of the wait staff had to make multiple requests before the cashier would hand us one. I guess they expected us to also include a glob of butter in our salad containers. Absurd! If they want to limit the amount of variety you can fit into an 8”x5”x2” container from their 4 bars, then they should charge less for carry out “limited” salad w/meals. It is NOT unreasonable to want to separate cold from hot temperature foods, especially when closing them up and transporting them some distance before you can sit down to eat.

Our server tonight was friendly and our orders were delicious. I particularly enjoy the buffet, though I wish they offered more options like black olives. In terms of COVID safety measures, customers are required to wear disposable gloves that are provided at the buffet when getting food. However, none of the servers were wearing masks tonight, and the tables are too close for social distancing norms. I would feel more comfortable if the tables were spread out more.

First time eating lunch here!! Parking lot was super packed, but was able to get a table right away. Our waitress was very friendly, and did a great job. Food was pretty good!

The great 611 train memorabilia was a sight to see especially the wall mural. Nice atmosphere, moderate prices, but the food was below average.

Heard about 611 from a friend. Was gonna be in Roanoke for the day so made plans to eat here. When I pulled into the parking lot I saw the sign said “hiring smiling faces”. That’s catchy I thought. It’s Sunday at 5:40. The parking lot is packed and people are standing all over waiting to get in. We go to the hostess stand, give our number and are told, “it won’t be too too long”. We figure what the heck, let’s give it 30 minutes. 5 minutes later we’re being shown to a table. So far so good. A minute later our waitress Kayla appears. And she had the biggest most genuine smile I’ve seen from a waitress in a very long time! And I eat out ALOT! Guess the sign was right. They hired at least one smiling face. Service was impeccable and the food was plentiful and very tasty. We all know this isn’t a 5 star restaurant but it offers delicious food and extreme value. I would go back a lot more if I didn’t live 40 miles away. But rest assured when I’m in Roanoke I’ll be eating here again! 5 stars!

Great steak and a good salad bar. They looked super busy but the service was still very good. The flavor of the steaks is just solid here and also it is an incredible value. I highly recommend this place!

Parking lot was nearly full. Plenty of shape on the inside. Don't that a full lots keep you from trying this place. The steak was very good. The salad/potato/taco/dessert bar is very nice. I have not seen a slad bar this big since we'll before lock downs. Service was friendly and fast.

I come here a lot and have never had any issues. I always get the same thing and it has always turned out good and service has always been good also. This time was an exception. I ordered what I normally get and the chicken turned out undercooked, which isn’t a big issue as Ive worked in the food industry and understand that things happen, it was taken off the order but then the server came back with a slick “next time ask them to cook it extra” and walked away before I had time to even process what he said. The chicken being undercooked is one thing but the attitude isn’t going to work in his favor. He should thank god my family was with me.

The food was great! My fiance ordered the 1lb sirloin and I had the 9oz. The price for his with the buffet was like $25 so it was a great deal. The place was packed (Friday night) and we had a large party, and there were several other large parties so there was a bit of a wait so we got our money's worth on the buffet. They had spaghetti and tacos and a baked potato bar, soups, salad and dessert. I appreciate that they provide gloves to use at the buffet. Overall our meal was very good and we are looking forward to coming back. The rolls put the roadhouse to shame!!

Try it at least one time.

I always get the 9 Oz thick sirloin with baked potato and salad bar. Normally my steak is very good, tender, with little gristle. This visit I have to say my steak was chewy, grisly, and even my potato was not as well cooked being hard or at least very firm in the center. They were very busy so perhaps that was the reason but I have coke to expect much better there.

Had a late lunch with family. We had a rough day already so we wanted something easy. Our server was stellar and cute as a button. I can't remember his name but he had dark brown Bieber hair. :) The food was good and had enough bar items. I was able to make a meal and fill up on just the bar. Reasonably priced. Nothin' fancy but sometimes that's just right👍Good job 611! 👏

Awesome hybrid buffet, where you can order an entree and side, salad bar, or combination of both entree/salad bar option--with an add-on tater option. The salad bar menu is wothy of a meal on its own. Beautifully themed for the 611 train. Biggest shout for Michael. Excellent service and personality. Always around and ready. Definitely a reason to return.

Will start with the good: cheap. Decent selection of the salad/hot food buffet Bad: I ordered my steak medium rare and it came well done, no pink at all in the steak. I asked for another one medium rare! They brought up rare steak!!! The picture is of the second attempt at medium rare. I have been to many steak places and I have never had someone mess up the steak so bad. Honestly even if it came out medium instead of medium rare I would’ve just ate it. But serving well done and rare steak is insane to me. My bf had a steak too and his was cooked fine, so I think it’s a hit or miss. Obviously after that experience I will never be back, what a waste of money, as I obviously didn’t eat the rare steak and left hungry. Also to add, when I complained about the steak, I didn’t even get an apology. The server looked annoyed with me.

Warm and friendly service by Nicole, complimentary warm, Hawaiian-style bread and creamy butter, plenty of seating, a salad bar that including tacos, potatoes, desserts (and salad)! The salad bar alone would be enough to satisfy guests, but the steak was also cooked to order with 2 additional sides. The steak was good, and cooked as ordered, but although was not at the fancy-pants-steak-house level. Wow, if you like to eat, this is the place for you. Don't expect cloth napkins or uppity servers, but you will leave full.

ALWAYS a great time @ 611! Whether it be dine in or take out, my expectations are always met and/or exceeded! Super friendly & attentive staff, THE BEST food, fantastic location, and all around great/enjoyable atmosphere. Restaurant and bathrooms always clean. Buffet always fully stocked & bursting with flavor & immaculate variety. Additionally, it doesn't matter where you sit in here, there is TONS of fascinating & historical trains & items to look at around the restaurant! This has been my son's favorite place to eat since he was old enough to say it! Even kids of ALL ages have great time! Start your meal off with some of the best in-house baked rolls, hit the salad bar (ALWAYS fresh!), order some of the best cooked steaks in town, tap in on the food bar while you wait, dig in at the potato bar for endless toppings for your baked potato, and finish it off with FRESH SOFT SERVE ICE CREAM!

611 Steakhouse is your typical steakhouse with salad buffet reminiscent of the ones that began to disappear in the early 2000's. The food is good and the service has always been friendly. Some of the items on the salad buffet tend to sit out a little longer than need to be, so just be aware of that, especially lettuce and pastries. Overall, I would recommend eating here without reservation and expect a family style meal without all the fancy bells and whistles, which I appreciate.

Very delicious and plentiful food. This place is always great and the prices cannot be touched. The steaks are very tender and cooked very well. The salad/hot bar are so good with so many available options to choose from. The service is outstanding. Ive never in my life paid 3.50 for a whiskey sour, but it exists here. Thank you for consistency and always a wonderful place to have dinner without raising prices. Places like this are rare and hard to find.

This used to be my husband's and my favorite restaurant. Seriously we would drive for an hour and a half every week to go there. Then Covid hit and I had to undergo surgery. This past Wednesday I had finally been released from my doctors care and I begged my husband to take me to The Great 612 Steak Company to celebrate. I was so happy and excited. I knew that Iwanted one of their Philly Steak Sandwiches before I even got there. I had ordered them many, many times in the past was was always pleased. We placed our orders almost immediately. I ordered my sandwich with a baked sweet potato on the side and my husband ordered a sirloin steak medium rare. I was APPALLED when the order came. My husband's steak was RAW! Seriously! He took one bite and said he couldn't eat it because it was so salty and bloody. My potato was BLACK. Burned to a crisp! I used to waitress and I would have been ashamed to offer that to even a homeless person let along a paying customer. I took one bite of my sandwich and wanted to cry. Honest to God it tasted like they had poured an entire salt shaker on it. Since I have high blood pressure there was no way I could eat that. When I explained the situation to the waitress she was kind and offered to take it off of my bill when I refused something different. We both left broken hearted. Our favorite restaurant was not the same and we have both vowed to never return. We went to McDonalds on the way home and believe it or not that was a much better meal.

Used to really like this restaurant but hadn't eaten for a couple years. Glad to find it better than remembered! Salad bar - somewhat misleading as there are plenty of hot items as well - was fresh and well stocked throughout our meal. Spills were cleared immediately. Steaks were good but slightly under-seasoned, still enjoyable. Onion rings are excellent! Service was also excellent. Parking can be a little tight when busy.

I haven't been here in years and was super excited when we went for my friends son's birthday (staff didn't know, he didn't want the happy birthday song lol young adults). Get to the host stand, little fella had his back turned towards the door and leaning against the podium. No problem, guessing long night, after all it was right at 7pm 🙄, they close at nine this said night. Finally get seated. Wait staff was busy, we get it, we work in the industry as well. Took her a bit to get to us for at least the drink order but by this time we all know what we want, no biggie. She gets to us, takes drink and food order, you know we got the bar too, fabulous as always, food fresh, cold is cold and hot is hot. But what WE DIDN'T KNOW IS THE BLUE GLOVE THINGY!!! We had No Idea because our wait staff didn't tell us and we aren't that observant. So we sit after our round to the bar and was shocked by this, would have used one if we knew and Nope we didn't Pay Attention either 🤷‍♀️. Second round we covered. As our food came to us it was Not our waitress but another, no biggie, others run food all the time BUT she's the only one to ask us if we needed anything. Our waitress never came back to our table. Another staff member got us more rolls as well, you know you can't have one basket and that's it. However we observed her sweeping her section and doing her side work, again were in the industry and know what she's doing. We understand that this is part of her work too and we whole heartily understand that but customer service is first and foremost. Neglecting your tables isn't customer service and when your table has to flag you don't to check out because this said neglect is horrible customer service. We still tipped her 30% as we understand what she does for a living. Most wouldn't have tipped her at all being the service we had gotten. We'll eat there again though.

I just picked up two dinners because I do love to eat here. Got my dinners home called back and was asked to return. I am handicapped, tired and not to say about burning gas to go back. Said they would make right. However, did not offer to take name and make right on next order but wanted me to come back now. This close to Thanksgiving will not go back this week and guy just said well. Seriously folks it has good but felt they should at least not inconvenience me for their mistake. Just had to vent. WOW just called by manager and she was so delightful. Apologized and totally made things better.

Three stars because of cleanliness, amply spaced seating, food options, and service. My beef liver with onions was dry (overcooked). The rolls needed to rise a little longer before baking. They were tough but the flavor was really good.

A surprisingly great place to eat near the mall! Fresh rolls are served as soon as you sit down, our waitress was super friendly and seemed to enjoy being there. It's a quaint place with plenty of Roanoke memorabilia inside, good for tourists or just lovers of the city. Food is just right, the BBQ ribs are the best I've had in a while! There's even soft-serve ice cream cones at the buffet bar. Just remember that food from the buffet can't be takeout, just the entrees. You won't regret a visit!
