I took my mom here for her birthday, and we both agree that this was one of the best meals we've ever had. Our waiter, Christopher was super nice and helpful with explaining all the different options. The atmosphere was nice and relaxing. And most importantly, the food was absolutely amazing. We will definitely be returning.

Truly one of the best meals we’ve had on on the East Coast, including Michelin star restaurants across the country. Always seeking farm to table restaurants this one is fresh, down to earth and yet complex enough to entice any foodie palate. From cocktail to dessert, every drink and dish was exquisite without being pretentious. Just perfect! Perfectly cooked and accompanied pork chop, the best beef tartare I have tasted in the USA and a corn bread to die for. It’s the first time that mashed potatoes have been worth ordering, and not to mention the mushrooms! Cocktails? All imaginative, delicious and perfectly balanced. The service was knowledgeable and attentive, the atmosphere welcoming. We chose to sit at the bar and LOVED the whole experience. We will be back to Staunton just to come and dine here again.

Zynodoa Restaurant was our splurge meal on a two week road trip in VA and WV. Great service. Our waitress was visibly detained by two other guests and therefore late to take our order, but was quick to apologize and make everything right (can't ask for more!). The food was farm fresh and delicious! Loved the potato soup and beet salad the best. The cornbread lived up to the hype, and we were able to share a main dish (pasta with a helluva meatball). Local VA wine rounded out the meal. Would highly recommend!

A good choice in Staunton for a nice meal. Some could say it's overpriced. Food is really good. Good beer list and spirits.

Wow wow wow. That’s all I can say. This was probably one of the best dining experiences I’ve ever had. Everything was amazing. The waiter was kind, engaging, and knowledgeable. I had the 10oz NY strip and it literally melted in my mouth. Not to mention the amazing bone broth mashed potatoes and my appetizer of gazpacho. Everything on the menu is local and the drinks are incredible as well. Don’t forget about dessert too!

It was an excellent dinner we had. You’d better make a reservation before you come. The price is reasonable and the Tomahawk steak are really pretty good 👍

Great service and delicious food. Upscale but not stuffy. Felt comfortable in business casual/summer dress type clothes. Cornbread was excellent and definitely would have been enough for 4 people to share. We took half home. I had the gazpacho and my husband had the fried shrimp, both were excellent, I was surprised by the large bowl of gazpacho, I couldn't eat it all and still have room for my entree! My husband said it was one of the best steaks he's had, and my fish was great! A lovely evening!

This is a very unique dining experience located downtown on Main Street, in Staunton Virginia. This has become one of our favorite places when we are in the mood for a little fancy casual. Everything that is available on the menu boasts a local Farm to table relationship. They have a really great seasonal four-course meal, that can be paired with a wine combination with a glass per course. We have tried a variety of their menu on numerous visits and the food is always exquisitely flavored and never boring. They currently have a version of bang-bang shrimp that is to die for. I would definitely recommend calling ahead for reservations. This restaurant is absolutely lgbtq friendly and the staff are delightful.

Zynodoa provides a wonderfully relaxed atmosphere while also pulling off elegance. The decor is rustic and simple. When you are doing food this well anything extra is just a distraction. We decided to let the Chef's tasting menu be our road map to Flavortown. Starting with the Vichyssoise and Culminating with Delicious Santiago Chocolates. We had a mouth watering New York strip along the way. We were fortunate enough to sit beside the Burner Family who were enjoying a Tomhawk Chop the Fred Flintstone himself would have been in awe of. Jared and Jerry Burner along with their lovely wives are the purveyors of Burner's Meat LLC. Jared and Jerry Burner were kind enough to talk about the business. I suggest you Google the name and become a loyal follower of the Burner farm. The entire experience was a wonderful memory that we will log away into our minds as a favorite date and a do again reminder. Thank you Zynodoa and staff for a delightfully delicious, sinfully scrumptious, fantastically fun time. 🙂

It's very easy to rate a place 5 stars when everything went to your liking. So it should also be telling that I am rating 5 stars when it didn't. It was my first time here, though my dining partner had been many times and raved about it. I was very excited to try it out! Service was great, we ordered some drinks and cornbread to start, which was delicious! For our second round of drinks I just asked for a glass of wine that would pair well with what we ordered for dinner, which again was great! Our meal didn't come out as expected. They took it back and made a new one. Again, it was over cooked. The manager handled our dissatisfaction with utmost professionalism, and just went above and beyond what we would have expected. I will definitely still eat at Zyndodoa and if you're still reading, I do hope the takeaway is not any negative, but that they are a high class establishment who know exactly what excellent service is. I look forward to our next meal there when we're in town next!

The meal we had here was life-changing. The cornbread is delicious with a crackling caramelized crust. For an entrée, I had swordfish with brussel sprouts and onions and a red sauce which i believe had pureed eggplant, it was perfection. I cleaned my plate. My wife had spaghetti with sausage and squash, i tried it, it was, to put it in her own words, "to die for." One of the best meals we've had in a long time. A little pricey, but the portions are hearty and the flavors are beautiful, worth every penny. We'll be returning soon. Update: my wife and I returned to Zynodoa with my brother, once again the food and service was phenomenal. I had the chefs tasting menu with scallops and steak, the highlight was the steak sauce made with black garlic. I don't ever put sauce on steak but it was so good with the asparagus and mashed potatoes. A fantastic evening once again with top notch food. The scallops were like butter and the cheese log dessert was dreamy.

Our first visit was hit-or-miss. On the positive side, the menu is interesting, the prices were good and swordfish and scallops were well-cooked. On the negative side, the swordfish was heavily salted and the fried oysters were just bad. Extremely overcooked and nothing but heavy, overly spiced breading. We sent them back and received new ones which were slightly better. We were also relocated to more comfortable seating once it opened up. Thank you for that. I see now that you did indeed comp our oysters which I appreciate. We ordered quite a bit of food and drink, from cocktails and apps, though dessert and Port as you know. So sorry I missed that before. We will indeed try you again. Best.

Wonderful first experience. The server Hannah was able to answer all our many questions. She was attentive without hovering. The brunch was delicious and filling. The cornbread is a must. So worth the effort on a dark rainy Sunday. Especially grateful to our friends that invited us.

I don't usually write negative reviews, but I have to say I am extremely disappointed in Zynodoa. My wife and I went and she had the barbecue shrimp and grits, while I had the steak. Both of us prefer meals on the rare side but her shrimp were translucent and the grits were absolutely swimming in barbecue sauce. It was completely unbalanced in flavors. My steak, which I ordered medium, was absolutely rare, and again the flavors were nothing to write home about. Even the presentation of the dishes were lack luster given the fine dining prices. The only good thing I can say is that the appetizers and drinks were quite good.

Excellent food preparation and service. Quiet and cozy booths make social distancing a breeze. Steak was tender and fritters crispy and fresh. Farm to table vegetables were a delight.

Add another star. I ordered the Prix Fixe meal without the wine tastings. What a fantastic dinner. I haven't had a meal this good in ages. I cannot believe that I found such a delicious meal in the depths of Virginia. If you're ever in Staunton,VA you must MUST stop here and have the best meal in the state. Thank you to the staff for the spectacular meal, dinner will never be the same again.

We were recommended this place by one of the antique store merchants over at the Wharf area when they found out we were visiting the area. So glad they did. It was a wonderful meal & evening. Their drinks are perfect. The food was delicious and the staff was friendly & attentive. We ordered the cheese plate as an appetizer and they bring it out with a loaf of some amazing bread. Seriously between the cheese, bread, and drinks we would’ve been satisfied not to mention our entrees and dessert. Reservations are a MUST!

I would go to this place everyday of the week if I was making mad money. The food is spectacular and the staff are so kind. I love how they use products from local vendors.

My husband surprised me with dinner here for my birthday and it was great from start to finish. The food was meticulously prepared and presented, which was clearly evident in how delicious it was. I had the Let it Shine cocktail, which was also very good, and we finished with desserts that were very unique and rich in their individual flavor profiles. They even went as far as printing a special menu for me that said happy birthday. We celebrated our first anniversary here a few years ago, which was an equally great experience and while it may not be an every week type of restaurant for us, it is definitely a great destination for celebrating special occasions.

Zynodoa has been my favorite restaurant for years. As someone who has worked in the industry, it can be difficult to turn off that side of your brain while dining. This place never fails to exceed my expectations. Always a lovely time. I know I won't be disappointed when I visit them. If you have the opportunity to try the mashed potatoes, do! They automatically come with the steak and are amazing paired with the steak sauce. Their cheese board is something I get every time. Wait time for your meal is extended because everything is freshly made, so it is nice to break that time up with the starter. The selection of cheeses and accouterments are always lovely.

We went with the chef's tasting menu. The food outstanding. The steak was cooked perfect and the sea salt on top was the perfect touch. The soup was incredible and the house cornbread was better any cornbread I've had from South Carolina to Louisana. But the absolute best thing was our waiter, Jack. He was not overly chatty, our water was always full, he had a polite and inviting demeanor, and spoke clearly. The best service I've ever had.

Nice brunch, could have some more lunch type options. The service was good and when the eggs on my wife’s Benedict were over done, they redid them very quickly and chef came by to apologize. cornbread was excellent.

Christmas Eve dinner... Our first of many visits! The food and service was absolute perfection.

  • 5/5 Brek S. 2 years ago on Google
Spectacular. We decided to venture into an event hosted by them, after rarely having a bad experience with brunch or dinner. This opportunity to pair food courses to local wines from Michael Shapps truly blew us away. I am particularly hard on seafood preparation after now 7 classes (that involve mostly humor and wine), but all 5 courses were on time, ideally prepared, and just plain awesome. Noting how well they complemented the wines was just the "cherry on top" and convinced us that the kitchen is in complete control... And rightfully so. We will continue to treat this as our special occasion spot, not just because of vicinity to our slice of heaven in Stuart's Draft, but because they treat customers as if every visit is a special occasion. 6 stars

We loved every minute of the Zynodoa experience! From the waiters to the food, to the ambiance…just a dream! This is a special place and a MUST for anyone visiting Staunton (or living here!) Thank you, Matt and Jess!

Best meal in Staunton for a classy night out. Had the scallops as a meal, instead of a side. Amazing! Cooked perfectly with a browned crust and fall apart inside. Served with a vegetable medley that accented the scallops beautifully. For dessert had the chocolate peanut butter torte, not a big peanut butter fan but this was perfection. And paired with a port, as suggested by bartender was divine.

Wow! We ate here years ago and finally made it back. So glad we did - we will definitely come more often! My husband and I both loved our dishes, swordfish for him and braised chicken for me. The staff are friendly and efficient, the meal was timed perfectly and the atmosphere is very pleasant. While I don’t have celiac, I am gluten free and dairy free. There were ample options and they were willing to remove certain ingredients in some of the dishes. As it turned out, the dish I chose needed no alteration. If passing through or on a day trip, treat yourself to this truly fine restaurant. Strongly recommend a reservation!

Great meal! We ate brunch here on a Sunday. The eggs Benedict with crab cakes were superb. Orange juice tasted fresh squeezed. They customized an egg order to meet dietary requirements. Our dog was with us and we sat outside in the blocked off street section. They brought us a bowl of water. Would return

Zynodoa and Daniel made our anniversary celebration magical. We selected the chef's tasting menu and could not have asked for a more beautiful dinner. Everything was delicious, and the wine pairing was exceptional. Service was outstanding!

Started off a little slow with some funky crab fritters that tasted like fried crab dip, weird texture, but they redeemed themselves with two incredible entrees, the risotto (added scallops -yum!) and the chicken and dumplings were top notch. Good cocktails and great service.

One of the dining spots that makes Staunton the epicenter of the direct farm to table cuisine. Featuring locally sourced ingredients and a rotating seasonal menu, Zynodoa doesn't disappoint. If you want food with layers of flavors, book your reservation (recommended). Come early to ensure popular dishes are available. Not fast casual, this is a dining experience. Plan for an event, take your time, have a cocktail, share a plate for the table, nibble an appetizer, split a salad and dive into their large portion entrees. Leave room for dessert and a coffee, too. Really want to get the whole experience? Go with the Chef's tasting menue WITH wine pairings. Worth the price!

Been here multiple times and it's always a fine dining experience, from the vibe to the selection of food. You can count on everything being fresh and made with care, the chef truly value's their work and what they do. Whether it's dinner or a Sunday brunch we can always come here and are never disappointed. Presentation of the food and portions are very decent as well. Like something you'd see in a magazine. Will also add, the spicy bloody Mary is amazing. Price of the menu is exactly what you'd expect for the quality of what you're getting.

Nice place, love the atmosphere, quiet, dark yet cozy & chic. Nice menu, great drinks. Love the brûlée take on the cornbread. Tomahawk Ribeye & NY strip cooked perfectly & nice presentation. The only critique I have is that the food could’ve been slightly warmer. It wasn’t “cold” but wasn’t exactly hot either for the price we paid for our meal. Still worth the 5 stars since we did visit on New Years Eve, one of their busiest nights!

Unique offerings in mildly upscale setting...not stuffy. New York strip excellent and blackberry smash beverage was delightful. The cornbread appetizer is as advertised. Visiting from outta town and a food critic- Chef takes much pride in the dishes and they are fantastic, flavorful and thought out before putting them on the menu. Wow, what a find! We were in the area and thought this place looked swanky so we made a reservation to check it out. We were expecting a nice upscale dining experience but holy moly were we surprised. We certainly got that but on top of that, everything was incredible! I tried several of their signature drinks which were far from what I would normally drink and they were perfectly made and delicious. This, of course, prompted me to order more. Lol Both of our meals were beyond our expectations and very well made. We were also pleasantly surprised by the portions given. Many times we find restaurants of this caliber don't give enough food and we leave less than satisfied. That certainly was not the case here and after an amazing desert we left happy and full. We will most definitely be back when we are in the area again.

So I went there last evening for my wife's 30th Birthday. She got the chicken, I got the NY-Strip. When her plate hits the table, I was shocked to see that they just give her 1x little drumsticks and a tiny portion of the thigh- the cheapest and smallest parts of the chicken. Something that is ~ $0.89 a lb and extremely tiny. My NY Strip was just 4 small cuts of meat. The food does taste good, do not get me wrong. But I can cook the same food just as good, which defeats the purpose of eating out. Furthermore, using a drumstick as the bulk of your chicken dinner without specifying that you are serving a single drumstick and not breast is extremely deceptive and the management and/or chef that allowed this to go through is \ are being extremely dishonest. You don't serve one little drumstick as your main course at a restaurant claiming to be a fine dining restaurant, for $25 dollars. Absolute theft at its finest. I will note that the cheese dip appetizer was absolutely phenomenal. Among the best I've had. I do not know if the chef creates his own menu, which I will assume that he does; if so, he needs to hire someone to cook his entrees for him and stick to appetizers (what he's good at). The place looks great. The servers and hostesses are wonderful. The food *does* actually taste good. But the price and serving sizes are so terrible for what you get, that I would not recommend this to anyone.
