Though it looks like a modern private school on the outside, the inside is dignified and engaging. Go in and start with the movie in the basement and then meander though the exhibitions on the various genres of JP2’s pontificate. The media is really impressive and the exhibits are well-curated with taste and reverence. The chapels are gaudy, with an almost-Vegas-like sparkle which is irrelevant to any aspect of Wojtyła’s life. That part is just too bad.

If you enjoy the Basilica you must also make time to see this shrine. A gorgeous church, a chapel with a blood relic, and a full museum complete with films and artifacts. It's very modern bit really beautiful.

One of the best museums in Washington. In an interesting and modern way, it shows John Paul II and his influence on the fate of the world. Free entrance.

In this place of peace and tranquility there is much to see but above all, engraved on the walls are so much of our Lord Jesus. Likewise, you can find the greatest thing that God gave us for this earth, which was this wise man and a man who loved God and gave him his life. you are a man of god. Saint John Paul Second. Thank you for everything you left us.

The Shrine is a beautiful place to visit. I really don't know what my favorite it but I learn something new about Pope John Paul II every time I walk through the museum. My kids love to visit the first class relic of JPII and I love going to Mass there and saying the Divine Mercy Chaplet after.

Beautiful shrine with one of a kind mosaics in the main church and side chapel, really like no other church I've seen. The exhibit on St Thomas More was very interesting, and the permanent exhibit on JP II moved me to tears. Well worth a visit.

Wonderful exhibit about the life of JPII. Very moving and very well put together with plenty of information, pictures and mementos from his life. A very touching experience to learn so much about this saint. The staff were very welcoming and friendly. The temporary chapel upstairs had a very prayerful and peaceful atmosphere, and I'm excited to go back and see the permanent chapel when it's completed. Altogether an absolutely wonderful shrine.

Two great statues of His Holiness. Beautiful wooded sidewalk in front provides shade in summer while running.

Came in from the MD side. Considered traffic, totally didn't think of school busses (don't go when the school day ends), plus a handful of left turns req'd. GPS got me right to it, but the one road in looked like one way only...out. spent 20 min turning around and got back to site. Street parking readily available but has time limitations, so no go. Decided to throw caution to wind. Luckily found out it was a 2 way lane. Parking available (maybe 40 slots) but free in back of shrine. Absolutely gorgeous building. Amazing to see. Very friendly helpful staff to show you around. But they need more, clearer signs for directions.

Just amazing. Very beautiful and stunning to see. John Paul was a man of men.. a great role model: a true Saint. His holiness speaks to all of us in a time of a deeply troubled - quite tragic - papacy of Francis. The staff are quite friendly too.

An incredibly powerful way to tell the story of this amazing man of bottomless faith. His story is the story of the 20th century and he changed the world with his faith and live. The exhibits are done in a manner that is both simple and deep. It flows easily through his life and times and the world around him. An excellent job. Please plan to slow down and take it all in. You will be glad you did.

A lot more extensive than I was expecting it to be. You could spend all day at the shrine. Very beautiful and very informative. They even have a first class relic! Can’t wait to go back

This Shrine is an amazing tribute and way to pay homage to Saint John Paul II! The sanctuary is gorgeous with all of the mosaics. Each mosaic depict one of the great stories in the Bible, from the Nativity to the enslavement of the Jewish people in Egypt. Overall, my experience at the shrine surpasses 5 stars.

I went to an all day workshop there. Be sure to bring a sweater if you’re there for more than just a little while! I attended a very good midday mass in the beautiful church. The mosaics are spectacular. They are outside as well as inside the sanctuary. I did not go to the gift store but very briefly. It looked good though. Parking was easy, vast and close to the entrance. Security was minimal but nice. It is located in a very lovely neighborhood close to the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, Catholic University, Trinity and the Holy Land Shrine of the Franciscans.
