This is one of the best fried chicken place I have ever been to. The chicken is very fresh, crispy and well cooked. The staff is very welcoming and friendly. If you are in the area you live fried chicken please go see them. You will not regret it.

I loved the many gluten free options! The chicken was fresh and delicious, the broccolini and mac & cheese were LEGIT. Staff was friendly and helpful. I can't wait to go back and try the curry brussel sprouts!

Excellent food and awesome counter service from the staff. We had the strips which were huge with cheerwine bbq sauce and sweet chili sauce. The mac and cheese is really good and not some boxed stuff. We will definitely be back.

The food was amazing. I got the jumbo tenders in the medium Nashville hot flavor and it was the perfect level of spice. I can't wait to see what they can do in the future!

Came here for the first time tonight and it's officially one of our favorites. Service was fast and food was DELICIOUS. Juiciest, freshest chicken I've ever had. Cool enviornment with live music!

This place is so good, I’ve tried a sandwich and their drumstick and thigh combo. The sauces are excellent and I appreciate the healthy sides, can’t wait to go a third and fourth time, etc.

Jeff's food never disappoints! The tempura broccolini and okra were amazing. You can't go wrong with his Mac and cheese, weather it's the classic Mac or the fried Mac. The cheerwine BBQ sauce was my personal favorite!

We went there with our 14 yo daughter who has celiacs disease, and it was the first time she had ever had real fried chicken. She was in heaven. All the food we tried was good and fresh, and the owner and his wife were very friendly and knowledgeable. Even if gluten-free is not something you have to worry about, try Voodoo Chicken. It is reasonably priced and the food is great.

The first thing I have to say is that this food was soooo good! It really doesn’t taste like anything I have had before, this place has it own unique delicious taste. I got the chicken and waffle and first the chicken was so juicy, and cooked perfectly. I absolutely love their house voodoo syrup!!!!!! I cant even describe it because everyone should get to experience the flavors melt. The service was great as well!

Hands down the best fried chicken you can get in this area. I had the hot chicken, huge leg and thigh, it was crazy delicious. Do NOT pass on the collard greens! I can't wait to go back and try more stuff! I always wanted there to be a fried chicken joint in the area that wasn't some fast food chain and now we finally have one, and it rocks! I tasted their Oh Holy Ghost flavor and it is super hot, good thing they have complementary milk for those that can't handle the heat!!! Voodoo Chicken rules, forget about KFC, Popeye's, and Bojangles!

The chicken was amazing… too bad everything else wasn’t. We ordered 2 chicken sandwiches with fried okra and brussel sprouts. We were a party of 2 and had a party of 2, 4 and 6 behind us. We sat there for a solid 45 minutes at least waiting on our food and noticed all of the parties behind us got served before us. Then the cashier came out to tell us that they ran out of chicken tenders for the sandwiches and asked what we would want to switch them for. I was shocked I was just now being told this especially since all 3 of the other parties had at least 1 order of the chicken sandwich, which should have been ours. She made no apology or attempt to make it right and when I asked if it had been started yet she told me no. We switched entrees and the food came out and both orders of the chicken were delicious. The okra didn’t have much flavor but the Brussels were decent. No one apologized or attempted to make things right or even acknowledged that they served everyone else before us.

Jeff and his team consistently do a great job. This is one of my favorite lunch spots. The fried chicken and various sauces are all excellent. I love the whole fried okra. The fried Mac and cheese balls are a must try. The salads are also very good.

The chicken is very good. Very crispy. Order your sauce on the side. My chicken came out very hot and sauced. The crispy went away immediately.

This is hard for me to write because the owner seems like a nice person and I like to support local businesses. However, I've tried this place around 6 times over the past year or two and have never had what I'd consider to be good fried chicken. My usual order is the 3 tender meal with hot spice level. Each time, the chicken is just not very good when compared to a place like Rocky's in Asheville. I'm pretty sure most of the problem is the gluten-free breading. The breading always comes out very dark, almost like it's overcooked. The actual flavor and texture of the breading is a bit off as well when compared to a place like Rocky's - it seems thicker and greasier, and separates from the chicken too easily. Finally, the chicken has a tough texture like the tenders have been cooked just a bit too long. Nick's in Kingsport has the same problem with the meat of the chicken tenders seeming somewhat overcooked, but the breading on their chicken is WAY better - much closer to how Rocky's does theirs. The sides at Voodoo are usually great, and you get a lot of options to choose from, but ultimately I go to a fried chicken place for the fried chicken. The fried chicken here is just not what I'd consider to be good Nashville-style hot chicken. It's just OK.

I didn’t even get to try the food, the wait was so outrageous! i stood in line for 17 minutes, and only moved maybe 7ft forward in line. One person was taking orders and one person was making the food, ON A SUNDAY! Don’t worry there were two grown men putting up a christmas tree, instead of doing anything productive, while there was a line to the stairs. Of the people that had already ordered only a few had food, and had been waiting forever. Taking into consideration the amounts of tickets on the line, and my experience thus far, I just walked out. That was so unfair to the two employees actually working, shame on management. The way a business treats its employees says a lot.

Went here for brunch and got the chicken and waffles. The waffles are gluten free, which I was worried about being noticable, but they are delicious! Perfectly crisp on the outside but soft on the inside. My partner got the 2 chicken strips with coleslaw and green beans. The chicken was hot, fresh, and perfectly seasoned. The coleslaw wasn't to his preference, but the green beans he really enjoyed. I also got the fried Mac and cheese balls and a mimosa from Rum Bar downstairs. 10/10 would come back!

First off the service was very underwhelming. I asked if I was able to get a waffle with the kids meal instead of potato wedges and one person at the counter said no, then another said nothing and just made a hateful face. I quickly explained I was happy to pay the 3.50 for the waffle but was never told one way or another that we could substitute the wedges for a waffle. In the end we did get a waffle instead of wedges which is good because my daughter did not like the chicken whatsoever. It was very bland to be considered Nashville style hot chicken. It tasted overwhelming of cumin and little else. No salt seems to have been used at all. I got the wedges as one of my sides and they weren’t really seasoned at all either. The macaroni and cheese was the best thing I got but it was just okay. Later that night I got a terrible upset stomach that I believe was from the chicken. It just didn’t sit right.

12 of us went there for an early dinner. We stood in line and ordered our meals. We sat down and the meals were brought one or two at a time. After about 20 minutes, there were a couple of us that hadn't received our meals yet. I inquired about my meal and was told that bone-in chicken took longer to cook. After 10 more minutes, everyone but me had their food. People were being served that came in after us, so I walked up to the counter to inquire again. They had to sift through all the orders and finally found mine. They served me, but the chicken breasts had been sitting for awhile and were tough on the outside and had lost most of moisture on the inside. Very disappointing meal and it won't be on my list of places to eat in Johnson City

First time trying Voodoo; gotta say…..I will DEFINITELY be coming back. Very straight forward menu, a LOT of sides, some fantastic sauce flavors, and overall casual dining experience. (They can make your order GF; for a fried chicken establishment, that’s impressive.)The bar area was very nice also; fun signs, a lot of great options, a deal pretty much every day of the week. I got the strawberry Brazilian Lemonade, and it was one of the best things over ever had; the pineapple hard cider was very smackin also. Staff were all around very nice; the barista (Anima? I’m so sorry if I misspelled your name!!) was super nice and very personable. She let my father and I sample draft and was very attentive. I WILL be coming back. New favorite place in downtown JC!

No complaints really. Perfect piece of chicken. I got the Nashville Hot-Hot, it wasn't as spicy as I had hoped. Hush puppies were great.

It's been 14 years since I've had actual fried chicken. It of course was gluten free, but honestly it was hands down the best fried chicken I've ever had!! The owner is very careful to make sure his gluten free clientele has a big selection of items. Including fried pickles and chicken and waffles!! Definitely will be back soon!!

The restaurant is bright and clean. The person who took our order seemed distracted and was pretty low energy. We were disappointed they were out of broccolini for the tempura. The chicken and fried pickles were very tasty. The potato wedges looked good but were unseasoned. The hours are limited 12-8 and closed Mondays and Tuesdays. Overall a good place for chicken.

Absolutely delicious!! I don’t have to go to Nashville anymore for that amazing chicken. It is right in Johnson City! 🖤

I love this place! I usually get the honey butter chicken but the Cheerwine sauce is great too!! I am really bummed though they took the honey butter chicken away and they close early even on weekends. Bad business move, rum bar is always busy on Saturday after 9pm due to karaoke and music.

They have AMAZING flavor on their sauces and the size of the tenders and legs are thick! The sauces arent super hot so if you are looking for some heat order 1 level higher than you normally would. Hush puppies were excellent as was the frued okra. Do know the okra is whole pieces and not the smaller slices. It is still breaded but some people may not like that its whole.

The chicken is delicious, and thankfully, this is also one of the few restaurants where food ordered spicy is *actually* spicy. They have an impressively wide variety of both sides (including southern staples as well as curveballs like kimchi) and sauces (like Cheerwine BBQ) to accompany their food. This restaurant is also one of the best options in the area for anyone eating gluten-free. All of their chicken is gluten-free, and they're apparently also transitioning all of their sides to be gluten-free as well. In the meantime, they do fry non-gluten-free items in a separate frier.

The atmosphere was a 10 and the staff a 10 1/2. The food not so much. The chicken sizes are huge but they should fry it a little more crispy before putting the sauces on. The prices are high but if you get the specials it's better; Wednesday's it's $11.99 for 3 wings, a side and drink. So for my first time going I won't say no to trying it again but it'll be a minute before I will.

The chicken is fried absolutely perfectly. Crispy skin and super juicy meat. I got the "medium" heat as that's what I'd order at a more conventional hot chicken place and the medium was incredibly mild. Unless there's a big jump in heat from medium to hot it feels like this place may be a little underpowered in the spice department. Potato wedges were so so, but there's only so much you can do a potato wedge. The broccolini tempura was good but became great when dipped in the Voodoo sauce. I'll definitely eat here again and try the hotter offerings and if nothing else it's some incredibly fried chicken.
