On a first visit to Valentia Island last summer, we visited the cable station museum. It turns out, unknown to us, that we had arrived on the first day of it being open (23/07/2022), and we were the first and second visitors. This is an excellent display of history, and tells of the role of Valentia in the march of telecommunications technology. Apart from the actual history on the station itself, there are also exhibits of some 19th century equipment as well as maps of current day internet cabling across the ocean floor. Very informative and interesting - well worth a visit.

You can send telegrams in morse from one room to another. Entertainment for children and lots of information for adults. Curious items that will make you feel old

Extremely interesting, a very important bit of history that most people know little about presented in a very accessable way. There are activities for kids in this museum. And it may be growing soon, they have applied for UNESCO status.

Don't believe the website.. just show up. It starts with an audio introduction and then you are led into a single room, with lots of information and some audio/interactive exhibits. Overall we enjoyed it and learned some things about the first cross Atlantic communications cable

While still developing, this it is a a great place to visit. World changing history was made here and set in a stunning location and well worth the ride over on the ferry.

Awesome to see the source of all telecommunications. It is just a pity there isn't a bigger museum to it. The local heritage centre have done a great job however with small resources.
