St.
Mary's
is
a
remarkable
place
given
that
it's
been
going
for
almost
a
thousand
years.
We
visited
on
one
of
the
days
when
the
church
spire
was
open
to
visitors
and
I'm
very
glad
that
we
made
the
effort
(and
helped
with
the
ongoing
fund-raising
for
restoring
the
spire).
If
you
plan
to
do
the
same
then
you'll
need
a
head
for
heights
and
a
desire
to
climb
wooden
stairs
in
confined
spaces.
The
reward
is
that
you
get
to
see
the
church
bells
up
close
before
emerging
onto
a
narrow
walkway
at
the
top
of
the
tower.
From
here
the
views
in
all
directions
are
utterly
magnificent
which
speaks
to
the
lofty
location
of
the
building.
In
addition
we
were
able
to
(carefully)
walk
on
the
leaded
roof
of
the
nave
which
was
an
equally
magical
experience.
Harrow
School
is
very
literally
at
your
feet
and
you
can
feel
a
palpable
sense
of
history
from
the
vista.
Internally
the
church
is
equally
delightful
with
many
plaques
and
artefacts
dating
from
the
lengthy
history
of
this
place
of
worship.
It's
one
of
those
places
that
forces
you
to
take
a
breath
and
appreciate
the
span
of
time.
It's
well
worth
a
visit
and
if
you
can
help
the
church
meet
the
hefty
cost
of
re-leading
their
beautiful
(but
weighty)
spire
then
so
much
the
better.
