We had been to the original Mama's Boy restaurant several times over the past 4 years, but this was our first time at the Macon Highway location. Despite a 1 hour wait due to the graduation crowd, it was well worth it. We started out with the banana bread and goat cheese appetizers. Both were excellent. For our main dishes I got the pulled pork bowl (the photos show everyone's dishes), which was great! I'm not a big biscuit fan, but these are hands down the best I've ever had and I always look forward to them. Considering the huge crowd they had to serve, the staff was efficient, friendly, and attentive. I almost wish our son was not graduating so we could come back. 😉

Sumptuously fulfilled my two-year long craving for contemporary Southern cuisine. Everyone staff member we encountered was warm and welcoming. They were attentive and served us with excellence. The food was not only pleasing to the eye but was also a symphony of taste. Great location too!

Nice little restaurant tucked away in a shopping center along the river. You can barely see the river anymore! The food here is good and my wife loves this place for breakfast. I had the pimento cheeseburger and it was excellent. I do have to ding this and any other counter service restaurant. I prefer table side ordering for the extra time for social interaction and more time to peruse the menu without people breathing down your neck. I understand the rationale behind counter service from a business perspective. And it might be good for groups of people that are individually paying. But in general, I consider it a step backwards in the service and hospitality space. This restaurant moved from tableside to counter services which is why I bring it up here. They made a point of explaining it to us as we walked in the door so clearly a lot of people haven't realized the shift yet. I'll just go on record as saying I'm not for it! (In case my earlier hints were not clear!) But, politics aside, this is a nice little restaurant. The atmosphere is casual and good for conversation. The outside seating area is comfortable and has a lot of trees around it. I wouldn't call it a romantic location but I'd say it's a good place for a casual date or a family dinner or a group of friends....Except you have to stand in line to order. There is plenty of parking.

Good i stopped while just driving by inthe area... what a great name as well... the food was absolutely delicious, and fresh. It came out so quick too. It was a very busy restaurant but surprisingly i was sat quick. The staff does an amazing job working together & making sure all tables are good. Very fast and friendly service. Clean too. My dish was superb! Really enjoyed it and very filling.

It’s extremely overrated and overpriced, the staff as well as costumers that frequent this disgrace of a restaurant are entitled and not a good show of what the genuine Athens atmosphere encompasses or what a fellow Athenian would want tourists to experience. some other great options with awesome reviews include The grind house, clocked, and the traveling hobo, If looking for something fast we have 4 Chick-fil-As!

TL;DR: This place is the definition of "okay". If the line is uber long when you arrive, it's not worth the wait. Otherwise, go ahead and give it a shot. The line for this place is insanely long. Seriously it took over an hour to get seated because of how long the line was. I ordered the Salmon Cakes Benedict, Egg and Chedder Biscuit, Banana Bread, and a Latte. Everything was just "okay" except for the banana bread. That was honestly pretty good.

This is a very good restaurant to go for a nice breakfast or brunch. We went here with our cousins for the 4th Of July weekend, and had lunch there. The food I ordered was good (I ordered three pancakes and a side of bacon, grits and a biscuit), however, I did find a dead fly baked into my pancake, which would have brought my food score down to one star, but it was a hot day and the staff were working as fast as they could. Either way though, I understand that something like this is unacceptable in the food and health industry. Even though that is the case, I always encourage patience and understanding with the staff in the case that something like this happens. In my case, I called a waiter over, explained the problem, and they kindly apologized and got me a brand new plate of pancakes with no additional charge. Speaking of the staff, the service times weren't great either, but once again, it was the 4th of July weekend, so I cut them some slack. We had a 45 minute wait, so we browsed around the nearby shops until our names were called. The atmosphere was good, all the decorations felt very homestyle and original, and if it weren't for the occasional fly buzzing by, I would have given the atmosphere five stars. Overall, an excellent place to eat, just maybe on a less, hot, less busy day.

What an experience! Our daughter is a UGA student and recommend we meet at Mama’s Boy at the Falls for a late breakfast/early lunch. Boy was she right! The service and food was wonderful! We all 3 shared a cinnamon roll as an appetizer and had some left! My husband had the Mill Town Breakfast plate and thoroughly enjoyed every bite! My daughter had the Chocolate Cake for Breakfast and was thrilled to have dessert for breakfast! She had some left to take home. I had the Chocolate Chip Pancakes and they were amazing as well! You should give them a visit! We will definitely be back!

I ordered a biscuit and gravy with a side of fried green tomatoes. The gravy on the biscuit had way to much salt so I didn't eat it. The fried green tomatoes had way to much of what I guess was a (stale) cornmeal batter. The fried green tomatoes may have been a frozen product. I peeled most of that batter off just to try and make them edible.

Felt so rushed to eat and leave that the food, which was great, was hard to enjoy.

We visited for lunch arriving before 11:30 a.m. on a Monday. The parking lot was full and we had to wait for a table. Once seated, our drink and food orders were taken. Drinks came out quickly. The kitchen was pretty busy so our food took awhile. The server seemed to be covering many other tables as well. The food arrived hot. We enjoyed the raspberry jam. We will go back of course.

Curb side order- biscuits and gravy with a side of fried chicken. Normally the fried chicken is a full chicken breast, i’m very disappointed that i only received 1/3 of a chicken breast. Lack of quality of control during busy hours is clearly the issue.

This is now our go to spot when we visit Athens. We have never had a long wait and the parking is spacious. Quick, friendly service. Food is well prepared and delicious. This go around we had the banana bread for a starter. It was hot and gone before I could get a good picture. my son had half stack of pancakes and bacon and had no complaints. I had the mill town breakfast plate with over-easy eggs, grits, bacon sourdough toast. I also got a side of the jalapeño bacon jam. Yum. Husband had the farm and said it was good he likes the gravy.

This place is pretty good. I'm not a big breakfast guy but they do it right. It's a great place for brunch, if you are into that thing. I am not. To be frank, I got taken here by my wife who, at the time had just moved to Athens. She really likes it. I am indifferent at best, but certainly see the appeal. Will most likely return, most likely when the inlaws visit or something but also probably when she wants to and I can't think of any reasonable excuse to not come along. I mean she's pretty great and I am willing to eat breakfast at a place she prefers because I love her and that's what really matters right?

Everything was fresh and amazing! The service also went above and beyond. I never had to wait for a refill didn't have to wait long for the food everything is as it should be with a place like this.

Wow! Wow! High quality food with unique flavors. The Peach French Toast was astounding. And the Sausage Hash Bowl had savory flavors. The place was packed with customers which was a healthy sign of quality food.

Honest review: Was traveling and saw this on Google maps, with decent reviews. Sooo of course I had to try it out! Food was good, biscuits are really good. Burgers was good, you get it cooked to your preference, which is a bonus. Homemade fries that are actually good. Gravy needed more flavor or sausage added to it. Quantity was more than enough. They gave a military discount, which was super cool!!! Homemade jams are amazing, and would make shoe leather taste good. If you’re LGBT, you’ll feel welcomed. If you’re and old married dude or chick you’re welcomed but we got ignored by wait staff, but my oldest kido got plenty attention. Place was clean, very popular joint by the locals. Would I comeback???? Maybe but if the service was the same I wouldn’t afterwards. If you like honest reviews please it the like and or follow button. Have a great day!!!

I stopped in at Mama’s Boy at The Falls in Oconee County to grab a bite to eat on my way home. I was pretty hungry and it’s been a long time since I went out to eat so I decided what the heck. I didn’t want to go to Waffle House or someplace like that that. They don’t really have any healthy options. So I got out my phone and look for restaurants near me. I should’ve known that Mama’s Boy was the closest place that served a good breakfast. So that’s where I went. I got there early before 8 o’clock and was happy to see that it wasn’t too crowded. There were several people already waiting but I got served pretty quickly. I did notice when I got ready to leave that they were much busier. There were probably 20 people outside the door waiting for a table. I guess i got there at just the right time. I chose a table outside so I could be in the sunshine, but when I got out there it was pretty chilly. Luckily within a few minutes the sun popped up over the trees, hit me in the back and I was toasty warm. I ordered the vegetable scrambler with cheese grits, sourdough toast and coffee. I didn’t eat much of the toast; I’m not really a bread person anyway. It was OK. The veggie scrambler was to die for (does anyone still say that?) The onions were crunchy but well cooked. They had that little white crumbly cheese on top; I have no idea what that is but it’s yummy. The cheese grits… mmmmm, don’t get me started! They were so good but I love cheese grits anyway so they would have to be pretty bad for me not to love love love them. The coffee was really good too - hot, fresh and just strong enough for me. They serve real half-and-half in a little pitcher. Too cute!! They also have bamboo straws. I love straws but I don’t want to use plastic ones. I have what I call a drinking problem; whenever I drink something out of a glass I managed to dribble (pour) it down my front. They had this weird little thing sitting on the table. It was shaped like a vase with a little flexible propeller on top. I asked the server about it. She said she had no idea and I’m like… You work here!! How do you not know what this is? Anyway I picked it up and found a switch on the bottom. When I turned it on the little propeller started spinning around. I set the thing on the table and watched it spin. Honestly, it looked pretty silly. I decided it was a fly runner-offer. I’ve never seen one of those before but I thought it was a great idea. I included a video of it with this review. Mama‘s Boy is one of my favorite restaurants and I highly recommend everything they serve. You won’t be disappointed!

Pleasant staff that didn't bother me too much as I tried to eat. I ordered their pulled pork and potato hash and enjoyed it very much. Great portion size that had me leaving with a small container of leftovers.

I'm not sure what the hype is all about, there are so many things that are wrong with this restaurant at this point, I've been in the past and it was fairly decent however I understand certain counties and certain restaurants have certain rules or regulations due to covid however every restaurant within a 5-mile radius of this place allows for their patrons to have a place to sit or wait, making your patrons wait outside Standing(esp for the elderly) either in the blistering heat or the rain while you allow only a few people to come inside and order and then sit. Compared to other restaurants in the area the food here is a little above average, there are so much better places to go like J Christopher's to name one and there are others where you get more of a variety, more bang for your buck so to speak....and the prices aren't crazy. And if this place was truly concerned about covid then I wouldn't have salt and pepper shakers and their jam and other condiments sitting on the table that they don't wipe down between each use of each patron... Just saying that's one of the ways to spread covid, they seem to be missing all the little things.

A nice resturant tucked on a side road. We visited with out of town friends and we really enjoyed it. I found the breakfast offerings limited for me but the food was fabulous. There was a waiting list (Sat. 10am) but once we were seated I found the atmosphere pleasant and relaxing.

The chicken biscuit is delicious here and moderately priced for the sandwich that it is. The fries weren’t the best, but my friend enjoyed their iced coffee and my chocolate milk was good, too.

  • 5/5 Ronald B. 3 years ago on Google
Great food and reasonable prices. Be prepared to wait. Maybe offering drinks for those waiting and seats/benches for weekend crowds would be nice for 50+minute waits. Other than that, good to go.

Quick service, great food, great views and awesome customer service! My husband got the burger with Pimento cheese. Perfectly cooked, great flavor and fries were great! I got a fried chicken, cheese and egg biscuit. Flavors were great as well--make sure to add a little of their house made jam! Only complaint, the biscuit completely fell apart and I had to eat with a knife and fork. But the texture and flavor was still there! If we weren't just passing through we would be back!

We rented the space for a Mama's Boy catered Dawg tailgate-themed rehearsal dinner. It was perfection. Cooper, the event planner, was amazing from Day 1 until the very end. She should teach classes on customer service. She and the amazing catering team set up the space exactly as I envisioned. The appetizers and the Southern Supper meal were absolutely delicious. Our one vegan attendee had her own special meal and dessert. Mama's Boy went above and beyond!

Mama’s Boy is always a great choice. If you get there after 10am on the weekend, be prepared to wait. Visited on Easter Sunday and they had a surf and turf Benedict. It was incredible. Crawfish cake with beef medallions and poached eggs. MY GOD! My only wish is that they served alcohol.

This place has such good food, but staff is always subpar and has messed up orders almost every time we have gone here. The most recent time, I wanted to take my girlfriend to a nice brunch, and they sat us outside in the rain after waiting over an hour and 15 minutes (we were told 40 minutes and multiple groups that arrived after us got seated first and inside.) We asked if we could move inside; we were told no. Our server checked on us once, and they brought us unsweet tea when we ordered sweet tea. After the rain let up, the flies set in and basically ruined our meal. Swatting every 5 seconds to protect your food isn’t fun. Good food, bad service.
