Checking out at this location is usually very slow. I waited about 10 minutes to pay on my last visit. Academy's strength is the large variety of products that are available. But you'll be able to find better deals on major brand names at other places because Academy sells many of these items for the full, list price.

Good selection of fishing tackle. My "go to" store for anything fishing related and sometimes things are on clearance. Ammo prices are ridiculously overpriced by 20% Pandemic is over and no one is wearing masks, why are ammo prices higher than ever and you can find them 20% cheaper online at other places with free shipping?

My husband and I went Saturday to purchase a safe. We bought the Sports Airfield 42 capacity biometric and lock safe. We had trouble getting it home and in the house. It weighs 400 pounds. We tried to opened the safe. It would not open. It turns out the lock and key mechanism was broken. I called academy to help fix it. I talked to the manager he was very rude and disrespectful and not helpful at all. We will not purchase merchandise from them again and I advise you not too either. The safe is a P.O.S. and the MANAGER is hateful and disrespectful. He will tell you to figure it out yourself because you are wasting his time and he can't help. My experience with academy is very terrible .

The place is so poorly stocked and disorganized. 2 different times I have tried to check out and there have been 15-20 customers in line with just 2 open registers. Need new management folks!

I have a Football player and we choose Academy for his go to place...Love to check the clearance out and we can't pass the fishing section.

I have bought 2 guns from this location and both time I was treated horribly, the guy at the counter is condescending and disrespectful with everything he says. They don't want to help if it inconveniences them in any way or takes up there time. As the guy at gun bar was talking down to me because he was upset with the line and my paperwork was taking a minute to come back he decided to show everyone the personal info of another person buy a gun next to me. When I came pickup another gun I already paid for I was told I must provide credit card info for the purchase but it wasn't purched with a credit card. I was told they will just refuse service and refund the money to my card that doesn't exist. I tried to give them a second chance and they have proven that customers mean nothing to them. Zero respect, zero knowledge, zero customer service and overpriced for everything.

I bought a propane stove from this place and used moderately two times. When I used stove first time stove left very black residue all over my cookware so I thought it might be because propane tank was almost empty so I went onto replace propane tank and used stove again with second propane tank but it still left very black residue on my cookware. I decided to return item so I packed as good as possible. The guy said I used stove heavily so he can’t accept it. I reminded him that they have 60 days return policy. He was very rude and the lady cashier was insisting that they can’t accept it. I felt very badly behaved by cashier there. He talked to someone over the phone and I was able to return item. Initially I was planning to exchange with more expensive stove but I did not even look any other item in store after how I was treated. I can buy stove from Amazon for cheaper and they will readily accept return. I am not going to that place ever.

Firearm counter guys are really, really nice and helpful. Buying online though doesn’t make it go any faster unfortunately. You have to wait for the manager to escort you to the front (understandable but took a while for her to come). Other than the wait, it was a good experience!

The singular best destination for grill, smoking and preparing meat in Athens. The camping section is easy to shop and has what you need for tent to RV camping. The fishing department is remarkable. Items are in stock and priced competitively. The associates are friendly and eager to help. Wayne was a true champion the last time I was in. BRAVO Wayne.

Be EXTREMELY careful when checking out, they ring up higher prices than tagged on product. See pictures. Hat has a price tag of $14.99. Was charged $19.99 Gun cleaning kit. Sign says $19.99 on sale, full price $24.99. Rung up $49.99. Employee and I walked to the kit, employee said they must have marked it wrong. I asked if they would honor the price and she gave a snarky, NO. BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU PAY. They will overcharge you.

I think all of them racist, you can't even shop for some following you around the store harassing you if you don't believe me go to westside of Athens and find out for your self

Athens location had Ladd Mcconkey coming in to sign autographs. I arrived around 330pm after picking kids up and taking off work early. When I walked in I asked girl at door where line was for the autographs. She asked someone something on her radio and then tells me that they werent letting anyone line up until 6pm. I asked about the autographs and she said he would only sign things bought from store or we could have one of his cards. So I waited in line and bought my kids Natl Championship Footballs to get signed. By this time it was only about 347pm so I took my kids to the chick fil a to eat. Around 5pm my kids needed to use restroom so we went into store and there is a line going all the way around the store. I found the same girl who told me they werent letting people line up til 6 and asked what was going on. She said oh they started lining up by themselves. So now I'm about 300 people back. Session started at 630pm at 716 we reach the front where people tell me he isn't signing anything but the cards he brought. And we were told no pictures. Why did you not communicate with anyone? Of you're gonna do something like this you really should be better prepared. I used to come to your stores all the time for Atlanta Braves caravan. That was as smooth as it could get. This was a train wreck. Needless to say I'm returning everything I purchased from you and don't think I'll attend any event you put on in the future. Thanks for nothing.

The website is well laid out and easy to navigate. The prices are bit higher than other sites though. Sale prices are more competitive if you find them.

We were first in line to purchase the new "BACK TO BACK" UGA NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP SHIRTS!! Fun people in line, Security Personnel and store personnel were in a "happy" mood!! It was a very good experience!!

Large open store, and lines not too long. Issue was several items not on display in the floor, but only on top of the shelves making them unaccessible, especially in the workout equipment area.

Went in to buy a pair of shoes. Had no idea what to get. Clerk named Buster was extremely nice and helpful. Got a good feeling shoe... Good price. Great service.

Very standard store, nothing exceptional. Shelves always seem to be stocked and tidy. Employees can help with any basic issues.

Ran in to check on ammo prices and saw a great sell on a firearm, so I bought it ! The staff was busy, but polite, and didn't act too busy or like know it all's like one of the other local gun shops (No, not Clyde Armory) in Athens. I am also interested in their large ammo section, Braves, and Dawgs gear. I'll definitely be back in the near future to complete my Christmas list.

They have a most awesome greater at the door. Fast, friendly service. Made the difficult return much more pleasant.

I have bought a fire arm at this store and it doesn't seight in the 270 Alexis. I call savage and they told me to call the store so I call store and they won't stand behind the sale. I will Boycot this store for not staying behind there sale. I asked the guy on the phone so I have to eat over 400.00 he said yes BC we can't reimburse your money

Favorite store ever ! But the binocular section no help. Guy just sat on computer seen us standing there we asked for help he said one minute then started talking to another co worker .... So we will just go to franklin's next time !
