Awful!!! If you're ever fortunate enough to get through all they ever offer is a telephone call back. Dr kept ringing my old phone number even though I told them repeatedly that I'd changed it. All the receptionist says is call 111 total joke. Had an on going issue with my ear now for a month and still haven't had a GP physically look at it . Basically the GP uses guess work to diagnose you over the telephone hoping something eventually works. We were told to protect the NHS throughout Covid , it's about time the NHS started to protect us by sorting out the GP surgeries.

Disgusting behaviour! Following several calls and many hours on the phone and after explaining the urgency of my situation asthmatic and pregnant in great need of my inhalers, they refused to book me an appointment and kept saying to me to try again the next day at 8am. In the end, my breathing got worse so I had to phone 111 and spoke with one of their clinicians who sent all the notes through and booked me a phone appointment with my GP between 5-5:30pm today. At 6:15pm I phoned them to check as they haven't called me only to find out that the doctors have left but was assured by the receptionist that someone will phone me shortly to try and sort out some meds. Well no one has phoned me and I will most likely end up at the A&E tonight!

Very Vey Poor Service and Advice. This is not my Medical centre thankfully called on behalf of a work colleague who has been struggling with a bad chest for weeks. Take ages to answer the phone in a que of 30+ at 8am and when you eventually get through they Fob you off with no appointments or return calls from.the doctor and have the audacity to blame it on Covid. If you do manage to speak to Doctor the advise they give is ludicrous. "Like it's normal to collapse and to lye on the floor when you feel it's coming on". This Medical centre needs to be audited and investigated due to negligence and very poor advice before someone is seriously hurt or ignored by not being diagnosed correctly. Better off going into A&E

For your health, please chose another GP Surgery. There are never any appointments, medical conditions are not followed up, tests are not repeated, complaints are not taken seriously. If you value your health, please do not join this surgery. I would imagine they pose a significant risk to people whose health conditions need monitoring. They do not believe they have any responsibility to their patients. I've had abnormal results for my blood and for a week I cannot speak to anyone about it. I keep on being told to try for an appointment the following day and when I say it's been several days they just say try again.

YOU CANT GET AN APPOINTMENT EVER! 128 times ringing from 8am. Get through at 8.15 to be told no appointments. I told reception my mental health is at risk and she didn't even care! Patients are being treated like animals with this system and this is why suicide rates will become higher! Doctors do not care about the wellbeing of their patients . I havent had a face 2 face appointments in over 2 years and i have let my illnesses get worse because of the doctors booking system. This surgery is failing it's patients don't be fooled with how nice it looks

I have been registered here since I was born and its safe to say this practice has got worse and worse and I'm surprised it's still open. Everytime you call you are on hold for around 1 hour to be told there is no appointments left and to call back again tomorrow.i have had a chest infection for 3 months and now I have covid. I rang up this morning to be told there was no appointments to then I was put on the urgent list. 6 hours later no phone call. So I call them and they tell me that a doctor will call me Monday as there is no gp on today. So nearly 5 days later a GP will call me. Safe to say all my family have moved and now I have mine and my children's NHS numbers we will be leaving also. Terrible service such a shame as the gp and nurses are lovely.

Worst GP surgery ever! It is impossible to get an appointment with this place! I started to call at 7:59 and the line was already busy until 8:45. Eventually when I got through, I was number 49 in the queue. I waited another 30 minutes and eventually when I got through I was told that there was no appointment regardless of how urgent I told them it was. There was not even an option to pre-book an appointment I was told to call back the next day again. This place needs to do better by the community! Appalling and rude staff!

This surgery is appalling, the staff always make mistakes and cancel appts upon arrival and so do the doctors, one of the main GP's misdiagnosed my daughter who was under 1 and prescribed strong medication which made her worse. A separate hospital doctor said it was not needed. And now all the GPs have been suspended under section 31!

A “never go there” place. They ask you to call 8am and after almost 1hour of waiting they tell you to give a call back the next day because they are fully booked for the day. I had never had or heard about other similar experiences in any other clinic .They don’t have any interest in actually doing something to improve the services for their patients. I am very ,very disappointed that I chose this practice in the first place. I honestly don’t know where are these pozitive reviews coming from.

The reception have always been very lovely every time I call or go in, however, The only way to get an appointment with this practice is to call at 8am for a same day appointment. You wait in a 30 minute queue to find they have all gone. They don’t offer anything other than same day appointments. I’ve also tried to arrange my cervical screening with them and they often don’t have the clinics open or offer an appointment too short notice to be able to arrange with work.

I rang on Monday morning and was meant to get a call from a dr that day. I got a call at almost 6.30pm when they close and it was a nurse who told me she couldn't deal with me and she would get a dr to call me. No call on Tuesday, so i rang today (Wednesday) and explained and the lady on the phone apologized and said she'd put me on the list for a dr to call. It is now 6.45pm, so the drs is closed and i still didn't get a call! I am disgusted in this surgery. I got diagnosed with a herniated disk after an mri about 3months ago and they have left me with no pain relief and i am in agony! Absolutely fuming! I am going to complain to the medical board as this is inhumane!

Not surprised with the amount of negative reviews. Been with this doctors 2 months and have tried countless amount of times to get an appointment. I will be moving doctor’s surgery because the service here is below standards.

Some doctors here are simply lazy, lacking basic knowledge and when challenged you are given sarcastic remarks of ’oh you don’t need a doctor then’ or ‘thats news to me.’ It shouldn’t cause offence to know your own body and any info you’ve learnt on the way to help a new or existing health issue. Often told by Doctors ‘that's not my specialism’ as a means to quickly end the appointment or remove any responsiblity. Refused all recommendations made by my psychiatrist and occupational health therapist. Now pregnant, they continue to avoid sending off referrals of any kind and this is where I drew the line. Some, not all, receptionists are rude and harmfully clueless. I once called at 08:09, 9 minutes after opening and they had zero ‘emergency’ appointments but suddenly come up when trying through 111. I’ve had out-of-hours GPs write to the practice in concern about how little they are willing to help in any area. Have now moved practices which in itself they took advantage of and tried to refuse to give me an appointment before even being fully registered at the new practice. The duty of care does not shift until that point. Please follow suit in finding a new practice if you care about your health and well-being.

I dont know what to do any more, i keep phoning every morning at 7.55am until i get through which is usually about 8.15am to be told there are no appointments. I had a blood test in November 2022 and was told i need to book an appointment with my doctor as one of the results was high, then i was told i need a medication review before i could order my medication. I have tried and tried and it is really messing with my mental health, i have worrying problem with my left arm but cannot get an appointment. I have tried to find an email address so i could write to the doctors but cannot find one. Please could some one tell me what i am to do. Very worried patient

Getting an appointment is ridiculous. I've phoned several times at 8.00 and being on the phone for a very long time like an hour just to be told that no appointments are available on that same day and was told to call again the following day, same thing happened day after day after day. Also phoned late mornings just by off chance to see if there's been any cancellations so that I can have an appointment, still nothing. I was advised to come to the surgery to make an appointment, so I did and yet all doctor appointmens are fully booked at that time of morning, only nurses left. I did end up seeing a nurse on my appointment. Alex was a kind and helpful nurse, but can't say much about the organisation and booking appointments. Terrible that they leave patients days on end without seeing someone.

My appointment with Maggie was the most comfortable, informative and professional appointment I have ever experienced. Every woman should feel important, valued and respected as I did during my appointment. If Maggie could be cloned into every medical professional, then all UK citizens would enjoy improved health. Maggie is a perfect example of professionalism and a brilliant soul. Excellent service. Thank you Maggie. I am a very grateful patient.

Worst staff and surgery ever! Reception staff are all useless, they do not want to help you at all! The receptionists are all on repeat telling you to ring at 8am in the morning. I tried this for 2 weeks straight and you are number 38 in the queue at 8:02 and then you get through after an hour on hold to be told there are no appointments. I have not been able to discuss my blood test results in over two months as I can never get an appointment. It is a battle to get the blood tests done, then another battle to get the results and a third battle to discuss results. Most unhelpful surgery ever ! Speaking to the staff is like talking to siri. My dad had a heart ache before this surgery would book an appointment with him and my hair has fallen out in clumps and i still can’t get an appointment. Worst surgery ever and the staff are the most robotic, unempathetic people I have ever met. Being a patient of this surgery is stressful and pointless. Waiting for a drs appointment for 3 months AND STILL WAITING.

I am actually shocked that this practice has managed to stay open , with the way things are. Ever since we moved to this doctor's it has been non stop hassle. From writing numerous complaints for various reasons, Having to call almost 100 times in the morning only to be told all of the appointments are gone , or getting through and being hung up on. The most recent complaint , was the fact that I have been trying to book a smear test. I was told I am not allowed one as you have to be 24, however I said I have concerns , so was then told I can be booked in but had to wait weeks for the appointment. When the appointment came around I had to wait in a long que (Usually full of others complaining) , and due to the time I actually registered my attendance, they said I was put down as Did not attend, which was absolutely ridiculous and unfair. I complained again- was told it would be dealt with ... Then , weeks later, whilst still waiting for my complaint to be handled , the practice called me , to book me in for a vaccine that I not once enquired about. I told them how disgusted I was , to be ignored for something so important yet be contacted for something that I have no interest in. Eventually I had my appointment today, waited in the practice for almost an hour, to be told by the nurse that they are unsure why I have been booked in as under 24s cannot have a smear test. Completely wasted My time, yet again. Thankfully I am moving Doctors and I strongly advise, if you care about your health to avoid this place.

Waited over an hour for pre booked appointment with the nurse by which time i had used all my lunch hour. Cant seem to understand how a nurse can being running over a hour late. Never wanted to join with this practice but was forced to because I had moved house. If you do manage to get through on the phone after being number 27 you reach number 1 within the first 20mins all face to face appointments are gone, not surprised if this surgery is spending over an hour with one patinate, This surgery is not even worth 1 star

What is going on with these appointments? I get told by the doctor to bring my daughter back for a follow up appointment if needed. I have been trying to get an appointment outside of school hours for days now! This morning I get told to call back at 2pm and get an appointment with the ANP, when I called back I was then informed an appointment cannot be booked with the ANP as she is pregnant and the issue is a rash! I should of been told this in the morning and also this does not help the fact that I cannot get an appointment outside of school times. The person on the phone told me to call 111 (how are they going to see the rash?) or go to A&E, if it was an emergency would I waste my time calling you? This is getting ridiculous! Something needs to change!

Excellent at referring the 111 service but 1/10 when it comes to practical solutions. Fantastic at going in circles too… call at 8am to be told oh we dnt have appointments, okay well ill just find out why im registered with a practice then. Only credit is to the gps and nurses.

two starts solely because the GPs are good and they hear and help you in all possible ways. The front office staff at GBMC are worst. They should be awarded the best GP surgery staff in the UK. Never experienced anything like this. GP surgery has not switched on the facility for online appointments deliberately; When you call at 8AM, even though you might be 8/10th in queue, there is no surety that you will get an appointment as they never seem to have any. Staff are non-courteous, non-empathetic and disrespectful. And God forbid, if you ever have a problem with your bloods or other tests then IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY AND NOT THEIRS to keep on chasing them asking for an appointment. Gone are the days that you used to receive a call from the surgery about your "out of range" tests. A brief shy of relief has been Overtaking of the surgery by SWBH following CQC suspending services at the surgery but I really dread the day when the previous staff will be back and the misery starts again. Hope that day never comes and either the staff relocate or they learn empathetically and not as if they are the owners of the world. Since the short take over by SWBH, I have started getting appointments for referrals made in 2021/22 and also reply to concerns raised by consultants during hospital appointments. Surely, someone was not looking at clinical letters. Appalling, pathetic.

i managed to see a doctor 15th December 2022 and needed a referral to a specialist .Due to current waiting lists to see a specialist i decided to go private and i was told a referral letter would be produced within 2 weeks . phoned after to two weeks were up and was advised letters were now taking 4 weeks .I then telephoned today 12 January 2023 and was told letters were now taking 6 weeks . I advised the receptionist this was now unreasonable. I then asked to speak to the GP direct and was told he would not be available for 2weeks .I then asked to speak to another doctor and was told he would call me if he had time .What sort of service is this from a surgery that used to be first class.its no wonder they failed a audit by the quality commission

A poor excuse for a medical centre. The receptionist Grace is border line racist. there was a Asian patient who wanted to register. The whole surgery understood what he was saying, but Grace deliberately refused to understand what he was saying, so the whole surgery piped up and said how can you not understand what he is saying, he wants a registration form. I waited 45 minutes for my daughters appointment and had to leave without being seen, Grace said she could not offer my 3 year older an alternative appointment. There were patients that had been sitting there in excess of 1hr 20 minutes and then on the other hand there were patients that came in after me, who had appointment times after my daughters and were seen before us. There is no system at this surgery. Th Dr's themselves are ok, but the booking system for appointments and even getting a appointment is a very poorly managed. You could be extremely ill, and you would still not get an appointment or even be seen at this surgery. I transferred from Whitecrest to this surgery as the Dr's there are extremely poor and literally do not care if you are dying, but at least you managed to get an appointment there. My 3 year old will now have to wait to get an appointment again and only god knows how many hours I will have to wait to be seen for jabs.

Once you finally get through the doctors are very good and helpful, but often try for days on end and can’t manage to get an appointment. When I do call, I am caller number 45 in a queue and eventually phone get cut off. Have to be really fortunate to get through and book for the same day.

Wouldn’t even give a 1 star. The staff do not know their own policies, they keep telling you different things. “Call 111 for a referral, the referral comes through call the next day says its too late, “call at 8 am for a booking” but the line doesn’t work, then number 28 in the queue who has the time to wait to then be told there’s no appointments? Only same day bookings allowed no times in the mornings given for appointments means missing work. Been trying to get in for a month every day and now just give up. Stupidest medical centre Ive been in.

So much for improving this practice. Called at 8am for an appointment for my 2year old son was 10th in line and am told no appointments. After complaining and even crying down the phone I get told I can have an over the phone appointment. My son has a lump on his neck I'm worried sick. How can a lump on a child's neck be assessed by a phone call. Madness.

Can never get an appointment, was actually trying 25 minutes to join the queue, consequently no appointments were available. I told the receptionist when I finally got through, that I has been asked to call for a medication review since some of my medications has been stopped without warning (including an asthma medication!) was simply told to try again next week. Lets hope I don't have an asthma attack from now until I can get through, whenever that might be.

Joined up to this practice when I moved to the area 3 years ago. Sorry to say, but it was awful. The bad press in the media has also not helped. Such a shame, as GP's I always saw were thorough. You have a higher chance of winning the lottery than getting an appointment here. Numerous times I'd ring first thing in the morning, be number 28 in the queue and then when my call was answered, there'd be no appointments. My family and I have now moved to another surgery where appointments are issued on the urgency and clinical need, not first come first served.

Typing this review I do so with the knowledge the whole of the NHS is under pressure. When you are in pain all day every day and having tests done recently, it is now impossible to get an appointment to discuss the results. Worried about what they found. This simply is not good enough.

I always found it so difficult to go for smear test and finally i had it done with Nurse Maggie she explained me every bit of the process. Made it so easy and comfortable for me. She definitely deserve more then 5 stars. She is such an amazing, caring and so professional women i ever met in NHS. Thank you so much Maggie for always helping.

I always find it difficult to arrange appointments around my work schedule. Nurse Maggie understood my situation snd went out of her way to work with my schedule and even come in early to accommodate me. I never felt like a nuisance or like I was being penalised for working. She made me feel very comfortable and handled my nerves with a lot of care, answering any questions I had.

I honestly cannot fault the service I have received from these doctors since having my little boy. I had been a patient of Great Barr Medical Centre for many years but was advised by my midwives to move to a GP surgery closer to our address. However after a really bad experience with a new surgery I asked to rejoin this practice after around 4 weeks and can’t praise them enough for the care we have both had since. Massive eye opener!

  • 4/5 Smoking B. 1 year ago on Google
I did have to wait a while for an appointment but this is due to NHS national problem and not solely Great Barr medical Centre. I saw Senior Physiotherapist David & Dr B Ratti. Both of them were excellent, they did thorough examinations and really put the effort in to find out exactly what was going on. Prior to this I have been assessed at a private hospital (whilst waiting 6 weeks for this appointment) and i can honestly say Great Barr Medical Centre did a better job! Would've been 5 stars but there was a lot of issues at reception (under staffed) and the patient elevator wasn't working.
