I ordered sashimi (salmon and tuna) which was great. The sushi roll was good. I don’t really like sauce on my rolls but I didn’t mind it. And the tataki appetizers were okay. The woman serving didn’t seem like she was in a friendly mood. Edit: I went there again 2 days after the first review, the woman saw me again and smiled. It made me feel more welcome so kudos to her ✌️ This time I ordered more sashimi, miso soup and the eel nigiri. I must say, the eel nigiri was exquisite 👌 For Suriname, I’d say this is the better sushi place. In that regard I give it a 5 star for food.

We had very tasty and beautiful presented food at Sushi-Ya. Looking back at a lovely time at this restaurant. The owner/hostess and her team are doing a very good job. Keep up the good work.

Delicious food, enough variety! The ambiance is nice as well. Service can be improved. You wait long to even get your order in. Always call after 15.00 to make a reservation. Other than that 🙌

I would never expected to find delicious sushi and sashimi in Paramaribo but pleasantly surprised to find that there is. You must try the Super Philly role. It takes the basic Philly Roll and dips it in a batter which is quickly and lightly fried, then it is drizzled with tidbits of tuna shashimi which has been prepared in a sweet sauce. The result is a bite of contrasts. The warmth of the exterior contrasted with the cold of the cream cheese inside; the sweetness of the tuna drizzle contrasted with the saltiness of the tempura batter. So many textures, temperatures and tastes coming together in one bite. I also recommend the sea weed salad and the miso soup. If you have a sweet tooth, the deep fried cheese cake served with a scoop of ice cream seals the deal. The prices are more in line with US prices instead of Suriname prices, so expect to spend 30 to 50 USD per person (especially if you add booze). It is worth it. The only caveat is service levels. Suriname hasn't adopted western F&B service practices (which is surprising since that only adds to your revenue). So expect to have to flag down wait staff to get additional bottles of brew or to order dessert. Awesome people though. I travel all over the world and I think Sushi Ya is probably one of my top 3 sushi restaurants - mainly because of that super philly roll and the cheesecake!

The place is packed, it took over 1 hour for my order came and when it came the food was horrible, I felt cheated because I ordered salmon roll among other things and the fish that came was not the salmon, it was that fish that mimics the salmon, I found it very different and bad, and the bill still came too high for poor quality food. It's a place I will not come back.

(Original) Heerlijke sushi gegeten, vriendelijk personeel, schone zaak met voldoende parkeergelegenheid bij het restaurant. Een beetje prijzig voor Surinaamse normen denk ik maar wereldwijd gezien prima.

Real Japanese cuisine. That's for shore. They have a nice choice of menu and 3 Chef's working on display. Price -quality is not expensive at all. And the presentation of the food is lovely to look at, of what you can aspect of Japanese food. The restaurant opens at 6 pm. After 8 it gets more busy.

I've never had great memorable experiences at Sushi-Ya, even before their move. Rowdy crowd, slow service, forgetting one of our orders in the past. At their new location we had to wait for the hostess to greet us and there were only 2 other guests there, but we were early around 6pm on a Thursday night. As we sat down we were immediately greeted by flies lol. The table was super wobbly, but our server was nice enough to add a coaster between the floor and the leg of the table when we asked him. Problem solved! We ordered food, Edamame which was super. The kappa roll, and Sushi combo. The presentation was beautiful but the sushi itself was passable. Our waiter was very courteous and fast. I do not believe I will be going back very soon though. Flies were ever present. Sushi is best when it is really fresh and served cold in my opinion. Nevertheless if one has no comparison to other Sushi places then I am sure it would be a great experience for those.

(Translated by Google) Fine sushi in a somewhat chilly atmosphere. In itself nothing wrong with that. Not "the best" but just good food. Not too expensive at the current SRD. Wear a winter jacket because the air conditioning is on the desert setting. (Original) Prima sushi in een wat kille sfeer. Op zich niets mis mee. Niet "the best" maar gewoon lekker eten. Tegen de huidige SRD niet al te duur. Wel een winterjas aan want de airco staat op standje woestijn.

Nice place. I went early, so not many people there. Shop is set up to handle a large amount of people, but I only saw two hibachi tables at the entrance. Prices were comparable to alot of places in the States. Sushi was very good with a few different flavor combinations. The signature Sushi-Ya roll was very unique.

Food: Food was great, what we ordered at least. A lot of sushi, chicken and salmon teriyaki and some other side dishes. Food arrived fairly fast, but there were hardly anyone there at the time. The price is steep though. We ended spending about USD32 per person. Including drinks. Staff and service: The girl who was serving us was very friendly and nice. The area is semi open. So don't expect air-conditioning, but it was quite windy. Conclusion: good place to eat Japanese food at least once if you're in Suriname.

You can find delicious sushi and that’s it. Service is very very bad. Staff working unprofessional and all your order coming very late. They are slow and they don’t know how to welcome customer and how to service well. When they bring your orders you can’t find around you waiter to give additional order and generally they forget some of your order too. I been there afew times nothing change. So if have patience and relax nerve you can go there. Also bill coming very late. 2 times I ask bill they did’t bring more then 15 minute and I go myself to cage and paid there. I am not recommending sushi-ya no one.👎🏻

Sushi was great. Edamame was good. Chicken Udon was not exactly Udon, but was good. The Thai soup was luke warm, but tasty, so we took it to go and will reheat tomorrow. Service was decent and the staff was nice. Pricey compared to other food options in the area, but not outrageous considering the lack of similar cuisine.

Been here many times. The food is great! Really all dishes from sushi to noodles to soup or steak. What let’s it down is the service. Terrible every time. Slow, mostly silent people who don’t know what to do. Bottled beer was served after we finished the first sushi roll. So, great food with bad service. Exactly like in their new Italian place next door.

Horrible! Sat down for 20+ minutes until server came, then she told us they didn’t have any sashimi, only rolls. No fish at a sushi place? What? Should’ve told us the moment we sat down instead of us wasting 20 minutes. Also charges 10% tip even though service quality is poor. If you pay with SRD, they convert at a higher rate than banks which is ridiculous too.

Great place. Went there twice. One time with a group of 6 and another time as 2 people. Both times the food was very delicious and the presentation is outstanding. The first time we made the mistake of ordering a main course and additional Sushi which turned out to be way to much. However that is not a problem since you can ask for boxes and just take home what you can't eat.

(Translated by Google) It's ok from a taste point of view but it's very expensive. At 6, we had an addition to 2000 SRD and yet we are not big eaters. Apart from the price, the waiting time is quite long. Given the prices charged (minimum 25 SRD sushi), we quickly tend to fall back to non-Japanese dishes arranged (filet mignon, RIBS, etc.). It's still good but it's not better than a Japanese lambda. The price is really not justified. I do not recommend this restaurant.
