TL;DR: Beautiful site, great food, friendly staff. BUT camp is too big, quality of surf coaching was really poor for non-beginners, too overpriced. Would not recommend & will not come again. If you wanna improve your surf rather book with quality coaching camps e.g. Drivethru, Infinity or Surf School Sri Lanka. The good - Site, food, staff The camp itself is beautiful. The rooms are pretty, the pool area is nice to hang out & you can really enjoy a day off or between sessions at the pool. The food is fresh & super delicious. Great selection & dinner varies for 14 days, then repeats. Food was my favorite part of the stay. The staff is super nice & friendly. The bad - everything else really The Surf Coaching: They have a rather weird booking system with a star rating which shall match skill levels where you book yourself into the session you want to go to. However, the stars are given to spots only not taking conditions into account (tide level, height etc.) + no one assesses your actual level at the beginning. Due to that system they don’t chose the actually best spot of the day for the time & level for you. Also due to first-come-first-served sometimes the actually best spots for your level might be fully booked already & you're only left with too challenging or beginner spots. Also they go to spots at non-ideal conditions e.g. high tide for Lazy Right & when conditions are not good (SURPRISE!) then just come back to Weligama bay. A few times when the conditions were not great at the checked surf spots some of the coaches did not even bother to pretend to care & at least go to Weligama with you but just left after arriving back at the camp (some didn't even come back to camp!). This is ridiculous. Some coaches care more than others & actually tried to help you, but some don't care at all. They just go out with you, sit in the lineup & are more interested in taking waves than looking what you're doing & giving advice. Many also don't speak good enough English to actually go into detail with you - hints like "more paddle" is not really what helps you to improve your technique as intermediate. Only because you're a local & can surf well does not mean you're qualified to teach surfing 🤷🏻‍♀️ The camp is just too big & impersonal. There's so many people & you will have so many different coaches it's impossible for them to know your skills, what you should be working on to improve or even just to remember your name. Some coaches do not even ask your name at all. For theory lesson they just ask if you have questions. Nothing prepared from themselves. This is so poor. The video analyses were good though - if you were lucky to get a space in a session. The coaches actually took time to go through the video & give tips. Booking/Payment: The booking process is a bit dodgy already. On the website it will always say that there are cheap rooms available. After booking request the rooms are full & they will offer you something else for way more... Happened to everyone I talked to. Also once you booked you will find out that you have to pay to their HongKong bank account at your own expenses – so add another 50€ on top. Board Rental: Prices for board rental are SO overpriced. They charge 10€ + insurance per day. Local prices for rental are 3-4€ per day (w/o insurance). Rather go to Cheeky Monkey - specially if you stay a bit longer. I paid only a bit more for 60 (!) days than what Kima would have charged me for 10 days 😅 The Vibe: The camp is just too big. With 50 or so people it does not have a familiar vibe. It felt like there's 10 new faces every day so no real group feeling. Overall, during my 10 days I talked to many other intermediates around & many were super unhappy with the surf coaching. Most beginners were more happy though. A friend & me we just stopped going to the sessions for the last 2 days & rented TukTuks to go to good spots at good times alone. I am sorry to leave such a bad review but I am being honest about my & the experience of many of my fellows and hope Kima does something good with it.

We loved being at Kima. Surfers of all levels are welcome and the stuff gives his best to fulfill all your wishes. We would recommend this surfcamp 100% for people who are looking for a safe, clean, comfortable surfcamp with super nice surf guides and delicious food!! The price is it worth! Thank you for having us - I am sure we will be back soon!

Misleading website I did not stay here at Kima surf Weligama, so this review is about the flash offers on the website. The price that's shown on the website as available, at the booking stage, gets multiplied by at least 3 times at the confirmation stage. I wanted to try Kima after trying few other camps in the past years but I was turned off by their false marketing strategy on the website. I hope they fix this soon since it's not the first review I see of this type. Update on their reply : I understand your pricing model is like Uber, exploiting the customers based on demand. If that's the case, it would be better off to support a locally owned surf camp in the area. Tip - I stayed at Green rooms and loved the sea view rooms, and could go surfing as and when I wanted to. The owner is very friendly and makes you welcome at home, fresh seafood served to your doorstep.

Best hostel we’ve ever stayed in by miles. Beautiful building, clean and comfortable rooms, with lots of fun activities on offer. The surfing was some of the best we’ve ever experienced - picture perfect spots, great local knowledge and professionally organised. However the most impressive thing was the service we received from the Kima staff - from the manager downwards they were world class and always went above and beyond. Sad to leave but can’t wait to return!

Great camp with good food and very friendly staff. Also great surfing instructors, as I booked their five-day beginner course. The downside is the very bad water quality in Weligama bay: the local government has to do something against it - even more so for the locals than the surfers' ear infections.

Kima surf weligama is such a special place with the most beautiful people. I could not recommend this place more and had an incredible time! Not only are the facilities beautiful with a very short walk to the beach, but the opportunities and activities provided to connect with everyone from so many different countries is amazing. Extremely well run offering you opportunities to do as much or as little as you want. The team of surf guides are so experienced and go out of their way to make sure you have fun while learning. Such lovely people and always smiling. Thank you Kima family for an incredible experience 🙏

Kima surf has been like being at home. We have created a beautiful family with people from all over the world, and there is a special connection between all the people who are part of Kima since we are all there with the same purpose. It has been one of the best trips we have ever taken, the atmosphere between Kima's monitors, students and workers is incredible. The services that Kima offers, the amenities and how well organized everything is means that you don't have to think about anything at all.... In addition to surfing, we have loved the different activities that can be done, yoga, theoretical surf classes, video sessions to improve, different surf spots with transportation included... Thank you for making our stay an incredible journey of emotions!

Great Camp, not my first and probably not my last stay at a Kima Camp. Best thing about the Camp is the staff, especially the (local) surf guides: they are super friendly, professional, approachable most of the day and give great advise during or between surf sessions. They helped me to advance my surfing from a beginner to a more intermediate level during my last stay. But also the staff and manager in the camp are super attentive and try to make your stay as pleasant as possible. During my stays the atmosphere between the guests and staff was very friendly and, maybe since it was not fully booked out, very personal, like one community. The camp itself is located well within weligama and very beautyfull, modern, clean and well maintenanced. Nice chill areas and delicious food included. Facilities were also very reliable during my stays, which is a huge advance and makes life here more relaxed (e.g. AC, wifi, hot water, energy, water pressure, etc.) Also you might find offers for a lower price around, I like to come to Kima, since I appreciate the vibe and quality service.

I would give 6 stars if I could!!! This place is absolutely gorgeous & chill, decorated with so much love for detail & cleanliness is impeccable. The service team is amazing, very attentive and so so nice. All the surf instructors are doing an awesome job and no matter which surf level you’re currently at you will make progress for sure during your stay 👌 Off-season has some tricky conditions, but these guys did their absolute best to get us some beautiful waves. Last but not least: best.food.ever!!!! I had a lovely time and can absolutely recommend staying here - no matter if you’re a couple, a group of friends or traveling alone.

I‘ve stayed at Kima Surf Camp Weligama three times and might return a few times more. Here‘s why: staff - surf instructors, receptionists, kitchen staff and cleaners alike - are extremely friendly and attentive. breakfast and dinner are included in the package and taste great. there’s a big variety of food and you‘re all set if you have special needs as well. the camp is located only 5 minutes from the beach and a beginner/intermediate surf spot. with a short tuk tuk ride you’ll find many more fun surf spots nearby. Kima provides two surf sessions a day, 7 days a week which is quite exceptional compared to other surf camps. if there are waves, the instructors make sure to find them and take you to the right surf spot. Weligama is a lively area with many shops, cafes and party places. however, you can also choose to just relax at the big pool or during a free yoga session at the camp. the camp area is rather big so even though there are a lot of guests you’ll always find a quiet place as well somewhere on the beautiful premise. as a solo traveller I highly enjoy the social aspect in the camp - during my many stays at Kima in Sri Lanka and Bali I‘ve made friends I kept in touch with long after sharing waves and drinks on holiday. so yeah - I‘m a fan and can highly recommend! :)

First time in Sri Lanka and Asia in general we had the pleasant experience of booking our accommodation / surf camp in Kima surf camp Weligama. The only think we regret was not spending more time here. Excellent hosts and hospitality, friendly and skilled surf instructors, amazing bio/home grown food and recipies and nice surpises /events in daily basis. We spent 5 days with my non surfing partner that enjoyed her stay as much as myself thanks to the plenty of yoga / training classes and the amenities. Ideal also for solo travellers, we recommend it for anyone who considers of visiting Sri Lanka.

We accidentally came across Kima Surf camp by wondering around our hotel Marriott. And found a gem inside of green jungles right next to ocean. We were in love with stylish and relaxed surf atmosphere with tropical vibe. We stayed for a drink, ask about surfing, and Thomas, the manager of Kima Surf Weligama, kindly offered to us to join their 5-day of school for beginners. It is 5 days of 2 hour training with greatest instructors, 1 pool session where they explain the details and nuances of surfing in the pool with the board, and video session where the instructor shows your mistakes on video that helps to realize them. Besides school with amazing instructors, it is great place to chill, order drinks and tasty food, and talk to people from around the world. The atmosphere there is super friendly, kind and caring. Also they have a spa in the camp for reasonable price. Thanks to all kind staff members, to fun and supporting instructors such as Bucha, Samith, Ravi and others who names we didnt remember but keep the appreciation in our hearts, and to manager Thomas for helping and support along the way. So happy to become the members of Kima Surf family! With great appreciation Julia and Vadim.

The greatest thing about this surf camp in Weligama are the wonderful friendships I have made during my 5 weeks stay. Not only did other guests won over my heart, but also did the very friendly and hard-working staff members of Kima. People shared food with me, despite the different tastes and little money they have. People shared stories with me, despite the language barriers and cultural differences. People shared good vibes with me, despite their own hardships. A big shout out to Thomas the camp manager, who restlessly takes good care of every single guest in the camp. Thank you all the surf guides and Sam & Benja (surf coaches) for making sweet vibes & good surfing possible during and outside of the surf sessions. Thank you Lisa (yoga teacher) for your positivity. Thank you Ciara (social host) for being you, “heo”. Thank you kitchen, cleaning, gardening and reception staff for your openness and laughters we had together. Thank you Podi (Surf Guide) for being a good friend :) See you soon.

The perfect get away… it’s super cosy and tucked away in a beautiful spot, green and quiet but still in walking distance to the Weligama Surf… the food is amazing, the staff couldn’t be any kinder and the surf instructors go above and beyond! Special thanks to Thomas and Sam, John John and the TukTuk drivers - totally made my stay! Whether you want to improve your surf, surf and party or just do some sports and relax - this place has you covered!

I really enjoyed my stay at Kima Surf Sri Lanka - Weligama and can truly recommend it. The Kima Family is extremely welcoming and helpful. The Guides are dedicated to their work and always ensure that you learn, improve and feel safe. My two weeks here have been the best Surfcamp experience I had so far.

If you’re looking for a very beautiful, incredible service, great food and amazing guide surfing surf camp then search no more, you found the right place :) it might be a bit more expensive than other places in Weligama but absolutely worth it and mega understandable given the ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Service.

Outstanding surf camp. Highlights were the friendly staff, quality of surf guiding, social vibe by the pool and the delicious food from the kitchen. Worth splashing some extra cash imho. Surfing guiding was available to all levels.

This is a great surfing-Hostel with friendly guests and staff! The staff is very service minded, the rooms are OK (i haven't been to many Hostels) and the location is peacefully isolated from rest of the town. The surfing instructors differs, but it's also due to individual taste of learning. The Hostel arranges some activities and the guests often organize going out to partys on their own, and let everyone know. Overall a great place for surfing and socialize! Me and my friend extended our stay here.

Kima Surf, Sri Lanka was amazing! We stayed in the fully equiped villa and had our own private paradise for down time between surfs. Set in its own beautiful compound with a stunning and tranquil garden. Kima Surf was a great way to come and surf Sri Lanka for the first time. The surf guides explained each of the breaks, making you feel safe to surf in new locations. The food and service was incredible! Fresh, tasty and lots of options! We loved our time with the Kima Surf community and would recommend to anyone!

The camp is super nice and very clean and the food is amazing as well. I really enjoyed my stay, would definitely recommend to come here!

it was great experience there. all the surf coaches are so kind and great at their work. Felt off vibe with that "social host" girl who is just mingling around the local boys and it was a bit pain to watch her doing "everything" for them, and chasing them around. Seems like it is common for guests or social hosts to "hang out" with coaches privately in Lanka, though.

👍👍 One of the best coworking space and also coliving in Weligama Sri-Lanka. All the places are very clean, a lot of space, good internet speed for video calls and also a power source generator in case of power cuts.
