Grown up with these woods, great for exercise and walking dogs, quite a few paths as well so doesn't get too samey, quite hilly though so not always easy.

In my opinion the best woodland/ public park in south east London with beautiful woodlands and a pond located in the woodlands and a second pond by the ruins plenty of wildlife such as newts, lizards, slow worms can be found around the area. A chalk pit and fossil pit can be found located in the woods. A abbey ruins can be found located at edged of the woodlands with a coffee and snack hut and toliets located next to the historic site. A play park and outdoor gym can be found on the edge of the woodlands aswell.

This is right on my doorstep and is a local landmark. Great for a picnic and for a visit with the kids. It has a decent a play park. Best of all are the historic Abbey ruins. Kids will love climbing the walls.

What's good? - a truly beautiful ruined abbey surrounded by an absolutely beautifully landscaped park, arboretum, and extensive woodland. The Friends Group (FOLAW) works hard to maintain the grounds in conjunction with the estate manager. Saying that, though, the group could be less cliquey and more welcoming to alternative approaches. The safety of the park and wood isn't particularly great. There's a fair amount of antisocial behaviour taking place, even in broad daylight.

I love the daffodils in March, but there's also a small area of Lowland Heath (heather) that flowers in August and early September. This is a vanishingly small representative of what was previously a widespread habitat (Heathrow, Hampstead Heath, Bexleyheath). It is precious and even here, threatened with scubby trees and saplings and bracken growing through it

An ancient woodland full of atmosphere and wildlife with the added bonus of a 12th century ruined abbey. A cafe, restrooms, playground and picnic spots with views across London. Well worth 20 mins on the Lizzie line

Great. Shouldn't Google Maps be showing it as a green colour, indicating it is a park, rather than white?
