Very informative, pleasant people, learned some things & tour was very neat & educational.... Bring a coat it's 50⁰ all year & wear clothes you don't mind getting dirty, it's a "coal" mine!

I heard about this when I visited the old jail in Jim Thorpe a few months ago. If you’re making plans for Jim Thorpe add this to your list, it’s not that far. There is small museum you can check out while you wait for your tour. Lots of information about this mine and mining in the region. They were playing a video that I only caught part of but that probably would be worth checking out if time allows. So they take about 30 or so people on this trolley cart into the mine. They offer hard hats and jackets as optional. If you don’t have your own jacket or sweater, I’d take them up on the offer. I did. It went from about 85 degrees outside in July to 50 degrees as soon as we go into that tunnel. I didn’t take the hard hat and was fine without it. The tour guide was informative. The history is very interesting. It was a bit creepy in there too so if being in a cold muddy cave and in close quarters with strangers bothers you, maybe think again. Not quite the place for toddlers and small children in my opinion but kids are allowed. Parking was easy. There is an admission fee, $12 for adults and I think they offer AAA discount. It’s worth it. I think I saw they are doing a festival in September. That might be fun, probably on their website or Facebook if you want details.

We really enjoyed our experience at this museum. They have a lot of really cool, old things to look at in the museum. The coal mine itself was so interesting. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and spoke clearly for everyone to hear. It was damp and cold in there so bring a hoodie. I would also recommend wearing boots because some parts are muddy.

This place was phenomenal! Our tour guide a miner himself and INCREDIBLY knowledgeable about all the history. Not one question he wasn't able to answer. The tour itself was fascinating and going down into the coal mines is not something most people get the chance to do. Definitely a great experience- but it's quite cold so wear pants and a jacket!!

We've been stopping in the Hazelton area for about 5 years as we travel up to Maine each summer. The No. 9 Coal Mine Tour is one of the BEST things we've ever done while visiting! We highly recommend this tour, which is so interesting and informative! We had an excellent tour guide which brought us back in time and gave us a great understanding of what this industry was all about. Bring a sweatshirt or jacket with you. It's 50-degrees in the mine and it's very damp.

Fantastic tour of the mine. Very interesting and knowledgeable tour guide with a passion for his trade of mining and for teaching the history of mining and this mine. Above ground museam is very interesting too. Enjoyed our visit and it was a unique experiance. What I learned had me thinking about history and the area for the next few days.

Our tour guide was Zach, such a knowledgeable individual. He kept everyone's attention, including my 3 year old. We were all fascinated by the history he knew. We left with a deeper appreciation for coal miners. Definitely a must see.

Awesome place. Oldest coal mine in America that gives tours. Nice museum with lots of cool stuff to look at. Also a short movie talks about mining life. Small gift shop has a few things for sale. The mine tour is very cool. Lasts for about an hour. Definitely worth seeing especially if you visit the Jim Thorpe area. They also do a Labor Day event that has food as well as the usual tours. Small parking lot but if it's not the Labor Day event there is plenty of parking.

Excellent! Not only was the price really affordable, but the tour itself was very neat! My son loved the train ride in and out of the tunnel, and seeing the old mine shafts and other things was really cool.

Tour guide was great. The trip was informative with the history of local mining, immigration, unionization, and labor laws. Getting to visit the depths of an actual mine was unique and well worth the trip.

Great historical location that gives you a peak back at a time in our history when mining was a major industry. Going into the mine is a unique experience, and the museum does a great job of capturing that era, and giving you a feel for that time. Well worth the visit.
