I booked a room here with my boyfriend. We left after two hours because we found a bedbug crawling on the pillow and a silverfish inside the house near the entrance. Once we told the person who let us in about the bedbug, he said, 'oh I did see them at the laundry the other day but I didn't know they were in the rooms too', which is truly bad. It is also in a sketchy part of the city and does not offer free parking (it is $10/car for the night so still cheap). It took us three circles around the block to figure out the entrance. This residence has a shared bathroom and no slippers and it is NOT clean enough to make that kinda trip. The walls are paper thin and you can hear everything outside if you talk at a low volume. We literally had to whisper to figure out what to do once we saw the bedbug. We did not get our money back either. Highly recommend to just go to an actual hotel. It is cheap for a reason and absolutely not worth it.

Full disclosure I did not stay here due to changes in plans, but I wish I had! I had originally booked 2 nights at the other hostel in town, but after a horrendous experience for the first night I was looking elsewhere for my 2nd night in Providence. I emailed Providence Hostel explaining my negative experience and hesitance to book another night somewhere sight unseen. I was contacted in a timely manner and the hostel was flexible to meet my requests/needs. In the spirit of learning more, the co-owner, Alina, called me to hear a detailed account of my experience at the other hostel to assure the same things weren't occurring at her hostel. In the half hour of our phone call, she actively listened to me, went back over points to make sure she understood what happened at the other hostel clearly, and asked for feedback/suggestions from the guest's point of view given my experience at hostels across the US and Europe. It felt so reassuring to be heard by someone who genuinely cares about her hostel and guests. The fact that she took the time out of her day to call me, someone who didn't book a stay at her hostel, to hear about my experience at another hostel speaks volumes of the type of hostel she runs and the positive atmosphere she cultivates. I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for a safe, clean, and comfortable stay within a budget.

Stayed here for a few nights in September. Realistically, the cheapest place to stay for a few nights in Providence and it certainly feels cheap. The beds were quite thin and one of them in the five bed room was more kid sized. The actual building is a repurposed multifamily house with a *steep* staircase. The kitchen is adequate for the size of the hostel. The location is actually fine. While a bit disheveled, the neighborhood is safely walkable to/from Brown/RISD and local restaurants nearby. I did not drive at all, but be careful about parking. The employees were very nice and helpful.

A cosy and charming little hostel. The host is nice and welcoming. Overall enjoyed my stay and would recommend it! It's also one of the more budget friendly options in the area Location wise, it's a safe neighbourhood on Smith Hill. Though it's about a 20min walk from Providence station and Downtown Providence - there are buses on the RIPTA network if you wish to take that instead.

It was easy to book direct (recommended) and instructions for check in were clear. We needed some flexibility and, while still following detailed emailed policy, we were accommodated. Getting in was tricky for me. It was clear on the website we'd have to navigate stairs, but I didn't realize how steep they were. Our room was up 2 spiraling flights of stairs with a wall, but no hand rail. We asked for a private room, and although I was not expecting anything super fancy, there were 2 disappointments: 1. The doors had floor to ceiling windows and the blinds didn't do a great job of keeping out the hallway light. We tried shutting the hallway light off after hours, but someone turned it on and left it on in the night. 2. The bed frame was a very simple metal frame with wood. As a fat traveler, I was very concerned I would break the bed as it made very concerning noises every time I got on and off the bed with my partner. The rest of the stay was fantastic, clean, and kind. There was an AC unit in the room that worked great for me as I'm not use to New England heat. Kitchen was huge, plenty of cookware, and room in the fridge. I recommend you read the website carefully and decide what makes sense for the kind of traveler you are.

Absolutely wonderful. Good energy hostel that provides real openness to create your own experience. Calm, next to a laundry mat, and overall felt mellow. A great common area too (very pretty and nice big windows, book case, a bit meditative really!!). I stayed in shared room BUT also in one of the private rooms which was really, really lovely and felt relaxing. A very good hostel! I also particularly appreciated one of the primary staff/the main host (so to speak!) named John. He's calm, chill, and just all around kind as a person. I felt grateful that he allowed the energy for, frankly, a restful but also enjoyable stay. This is exactly the kind of accommodations I was looking for, even more so as a part of the world of visiting and staying in hostels! Happy to have found Providence Guest House and I enjoy Rhode Island overall (including having family there, too!). Glad this place is around! Cool building (multi-level house redesigned as a hostel!). Sidenote: while I was there I was happy to also meet some great fellow guests! Perhaps just chance, but also in line with my experience overall. Was happy to make the most of it and, if I'm looking for a hostel or any accommodations in the area, this is my first choice plan to return. All in all, worked well with my needs, preferences, and vibe. :)

In kind of a sketchy neighborhood, but very convenient to affordable restaurants and the staff is super nice. Very clean and there is a shared kitchen with free coffee, tea, etc. Sure to book ahead if you want to stay. Extremely affordable.

Stayed a weekend for a summer bridge tournament with my friends… it was a GREAT stay at a GREAT price (perfect for college students!). Alina was very warm and eager to reach out to help with booking. The hostel both feels very safe and is centrally located, on a street with a bunch of stores/restaurants. There was a nice community board with tons of local food and activity suggestions. The other guests were all very friendly, and there is always a sense of privacy if you want it. The only inconvenience for me was not having central AC—not great since there was a heat wave at the time—but not the worst if you don’t mind the window unit noise. Overall, if want a pleasant stay with the opportunity to meet tons of new people, this is the place to go. I will be back next time I’m in Providence!

I've stayed at many hostels before, but I haven't felt more at home than I did here. The staff was excellent and very friendly, going out of their way to help. The room was cozy, quiet, and very clean. I would recommend this hostel to anyone visiting the area.

There’s a clerk with an exchange work/rent free contract there who’s probably the creepiest and rudest person I’ve met in a while, wouldn’t even let my mom inside the house to see it because she didn’t pay, really paranoid and definitively suspicious person, I’m trying to get the managers number so he can look into it but they have no way to contact the owner or whoever is handling that place. Really uncomfortable beds. 30$ bucks for a shared room with other 5 people, gladly there were fewer. Apart from the nice Central American girls who were nice, the place isn’t worth it.

A gem for the traveler on a shoestring budget. I booked three nights with only a couple of days' notice when my Couchsurfing host declined, and opted for a 4-bed female-only dorm, in which I ended up being the only guest throughout my stay. Friendly staff that were flexible when I was delayed into Providence by a full 12 h after my bus out of Toronto was canceled. The bed was basic with clean sheets, and I woke up rested both days. The AC worked perfectly, as did the hot water in the shower. As for the neighborhood, I walked back from gigs around midnight on a Friday and Saturday as a solo female traveler without feeling unsafe. Do take care on the stairs though, especially if you had a couple of drinks downtown ;)
