I recently dined at The Village Lanterne and had mixed feelings about the experience. The German-themed ambiance was a charming touch, which I thoroughly enjoyed. Additionally, the staff were genuinely pleasant and welcoming. However, the food was fairly average and didn’t particularly stand out. The most significant drawback was the waiting time; we had to wait for over an hour after ordering our meals. While the atmosphere and friendly staff were definite pluses, the waiting time and the quality of the food might deter me from returning.

Sat at the bar and had the Monday special- burger platter which comes with a beer for an additional 4.00. It was delicious and so was the Hofbrau dunkle beer. Great service and a comfortable welcoming vibe. It was open mic night and the musicians were awesome. Definitely going back soon.

Growing up next door in West Babylon for over 30 years one of our favorite bakeries was the Black Forest Bakery. Last week I returned to the area for a brief visit and was surprised to see the bakery was no longer in existence, but instead replaced by this German restaurant. Wow, what a great bar and ambiance throughout the establishment. My sauerbraten was very good which included red cabbage and a dumpling. I would have preferred spaetzle, but all in all a very good meal. I’ve been living in NC since 2003, but on my next trip back up to LI, I plan on another stop at The Village Lanterne.

As a US Army veteran stationed in Germany I can say without a single doubt that this restaurant has much potential to be great but fell incredibly short. The food is authentic and truly German. However, two of our meals were RAW. One was a children’s meal. The service was lacking and we waited over 2.5 hours to receive our food. For the good of all customers who would consider this restaurant I beg you to reconsider. No manager came to rectify the situation. If I could give ZERO stars I would! Do not come here!!!!

Always a great meal here. Madeline our waitress was great with our kids and super accommodating. The entertainment on Friday night 1/21 was super fun. The whole back room was laughing and engaging each other. I had the stuffed pork loin 🤌🏼😘 The ambiance is always on point.

Such an authentic place. Food is very good, specially if you trying german dishes. Portions are considerably bigger than usual restaurants. You would be pleasantly surprised wish service and vibe of the place. Village Lantern is one of the gems of Long Island. They always decorate so well for Christmas

The Village Lanterne is not "just a German restaurant". It is an EXPERIENCE. More on that later. This is where you go if you're a meat-and-potatoes guy or gal but who wants said meat and potatoes a cut above, well, meat and potatoes! The beer and wine selection is also generous, whether you want a dark ale or a fine Riesling, they've got you covered. The service is fast and attentive, and the waitresses are fully decked out in traditional German garb. Remember when I said it's an experience? That's just the start of it. The furniture. The architecture. The ENDLESS tchotchkes on the walls. Oh, and did I forget the accordion music? Because yes: accordion music. (And the fellow takes requests, even disco hits! SERIOUSLY. REQUEST THEM.) After dinner, my father said it best: "Going there was almost like a little vacation." He's right: For two hours, we weren't on Long Island. We were in a little slice of fabricated German Heaven — that tasted very much like German chocolate cake.

Bavarian treat right where it counts ! Quality food. Excellent service warm welcoming atmosphere. I wish I could eat this well every day. Sauerbraten Tuesdays is a treat. The new addition of spaetzle on the plate with a dumpling and cabbage is just right. I keep coming back and recommending it to anyone who is a foodie like me. I keep finding more and more hidden gems in the decor and I love it! Wotan Mit Uns!

Had a reservation for 7 and was seated within 5 min. Awesome would describe our servers welcoming and friendly personality and our service received throughout our dinner. Beers were all great and many to choose from. But our dinner was incredible. The sauerbraten was delicious as was my schwabisch pork platter. Very good portion sizes of each meal. Fantastic Black Forest cake too. We drive a good distance for the village lantern and it’s always worth it.

I have only been here about 3 times and each time was an excellent experience. Wonderful & true German atmosphere and basically every dish they prepare is delicious. I do feel as if the portions may have gotten a little smaller, It just seems like most restaurants are having to cut back. With my family still in Hungary and Germany, I grew up eating goulash and didn't get to appreciate it until I was well into my 20s. Maybe even 30s. Now I would do anything to have my moms goulash again. This restaurant makes a very close version!! And that's the same with sauerbraten. Not to sound cocky, but There has Not been many people, let alone restaurants that have met the tall order of my mom's excellent and timeless cooking. Her mushroom dark gravy was unmatched. The only reason my German mom cooked goulash so very often was not because she came over from Germany. She did not even know what it was. It was because of my grandma who came over from Budapest. She insisted that my mother, her new daughter-in-law at the time - cook goulash over and over until she perfected it. And that she did... ***Goulash is a Hungarian dish, not German!!! Lastly!!! This time I ordered the rouladin. This is something my mother made very, very often. It is an inexpensive meat or chuck steak. I remember it was rolled up with chopped up pickles inside and a dark brown gravy and she used a lot of toothpicks lol. I was reluctant to order something that I ate all the time growing up & I wasn't even my favorite dish. But it's been over 10 years since I've had it homemade. I made the right choice because it tasted so delicious! I became very nostalgic and it brought back beautiful memories. The sauces are quite rich in German food & Very Tasty, Not too thick but not runny. Compliments once again to the Village Lantern for making an incredible rouladin that tasted very much like my mom's!!! 5 STARS!!!

✅great place to try. ✅very Germany atmosphere, a lot of stories and pictures make you feel a German soul. Which was the best part of the restaurant. ✅ service was just ok. Wait time for food was too long. ✅for me personally food rate is 2 out of 5. Very simple dishes and no Much flavors. ✅beer was great 10 out of 10. Definitely should have it. ✅overall it was a very cute and lovely place to be at.

We've been here several times and we usually love the food. This last visit, some of the meals were a little off. We were seated quickly in a booth (a bit away from the live music, which was perfect.) Took a bit for our waitress to get to us (which was fine), so the hostess took our beverage orders to get things started. I couldn't resist the Dunkel, served cold in a tall mug. We started with the potato pancakes, which were excellent and the currywurst, also very good. The wait for our meals was a little longer than I would have expected, but not bad. For my meal I had the schnitzel sandwich - veal, muenster, lettuce, tomato on a pretzel roll! It was excellent. Only ate half. My wife had the chicken schnitzel, which she has loved in the past. She was not thrilled this time. It was over cooked/dry. Everything else was fine and the restaurant looked really nice with the lights and decorations still up. Our server was super nice and did a great job. We'll be back.

The servers were fantastic. The atmosphere is cozy and nostalgic. The food was portioned well and absolutely delicious- the entertainment was fun. It’s such a nice change of scene from all the ordinary same usual restaurants. I like to call it a needle in a hay stack in the heart of Lindy village! definitely will be back time and again!

You get the feel when you walk in that the restaurant has been here forever. Very rustic looking. Food was very good. None of us could finish our meal! Really good beer selection as well. Our server was very friendly and efficient. Can't wait to go back!

The potato dumpling soup was hearty and tasty. The calves liver with bacon and onions tasted a bit sour. I could not eat it. The waitress was understanding and removed it from my bill. Because of the good customer service, I will be back to try something else.

we ate here on saturday night a party of 12.. all 12 of us did not like our food.. 3 of us got chicken schnitzel.. it was dry & the gravey came in a plastic jello shot cup on the side & fries.. it was like cafeteria food! I don't like leaving a bad review but the food was horrible.. entertainment & ambience were great! The bill came out $700 & definitely not worth it & the portion was very small.. the best German food is zum stammtisch! In queens..The portions are big & delicious.. guess we're spolied from there.. I'm sorry to write a bad review & I never do stuff like that.. just so disappointing.. the pretzel rolls were the best thing & of course the beer & wine... this was my leftovers🤦‍♀️

My friends and I went to The Village Lantern for the Sauerbraten. One had the Beef Goulash. We also had a German sausage sampler appetizer. All the food was excellent. Although no microbrew beers that are popular today, they had a great choice of German beers that we were all very pleased with. The inside made us feel like authentic Germany. Top notch place that we will frequent! Make sure you make a reservation.

To keep it short Our typical German restaurant is closed Mondays and Tuesdays so we came here. The hostess was not present for 25 minutes. We were told because we didn't have a reservation we couldn't sit unless we waited or sat by the bar. There was a whole room that had multiple empty tables the whole night. (see photo) Our order not taken for another 35 minutes. Appetizers were good! Our food never came even after 3 hours. Still 60 dollars somehow. I would say the atmosphere was perfect apart from a bar fly that was particularly annoying.

This is an authentic German restaurant, the decor is amazing they have a three piece band walking around and I believe live bands possibly. Huge portions of fantastic food. Great beer selection. Service was a little slow but they were very busy.

I heard a lot of good things about this place and my expectations were set a little high, so that could add to why my experience was average. I don't eat beef or pork and this place is known for their sausages (my girlfriend did eat the sausages and said they were pretty good), so I definitely considered that in my overall score. Service: The service was pretty slow. When we got there the restaurant was almost empty and they sat us in this corner hidden from the entire restaurant. There were tons of booths and other tables open and I felt like a kid being punished in the corner. After we sat the waitress (who wasn't our actual waitress) took our drink order. It took about ten minutes to get all of our drinks. When the waitress did finally come she took our order and did answer all of our questions and was helpful. The table that came in 20 minutes after us got their bread before we did. Food: As an appetizer we ordered their cheese dip platter and their potato pancakes. The cheese dip was actually pretty good and their bread and pretzels were spot on. I thought the cauliflower was boring and they should've done more with it. They just plopped some steamed cauliflower on the plate and called it a day. The potato pancaked were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside how I like them. My girlfriend got the "Best of the Wurst" platter. She said it was pretty good and enjoyed it. They didn't have the sausage options on the menu which I thought was odd. Takes time away from the waitress to have to explain what they all are. I ordered the Chicken Stroganoff. I asked the waitress if the gravy was made with meat. She told me they sprinkled bacon on top. There's no mention of bacon in the menu and there should be. I got it without the bacon. The gravy had a good gravy texture, but we pretty bland. The chicken was also overcooked and really bland. I had to add a bunch of salt and pepper. The veggies on the side were cooked nicely though. Overall, I'm definitely not dying to go back. Other than the bread and the potato pancakes the food was really bland. I know everything is more expensive, but the food is really overpriced for the experience. Service was really slow. Didn't meet expectations.

Wonderful German restaurant with an amazing atmosphere. Lots of decorations on the wall to make you feel right at home. I had the cordon bleu schnitzel and it was absolutely delicious. Crispy and tender but not greasy at all. If you like German food, this is the place to go.

What a wonderful place for a family celebration! We had a celebration lunch for our parents here today and it was lovely. The room was comfortable and decorated well. The food was great. The waitstaff was incredible. They were kind and efficient and so accommodating. We made lovely memories here!!

Great German specialties. The schnitzel was excellent. Sauerbraten also awesome. It is like eating at a friend's house with mom being a great cook. Not that cookie cutter meals you get at places during Oktoberfest. Everything was perfect.

Fantastic food, love the ambiance and decent pricing. First time having authentic German food and I was pleasantly surprised with how much I enjoyed everything! Highly recommend the goulash!
