The value you get from this lighthouse is less about history and more with the fact that you visited the eastern tip of the continental United States. The lighthouse looks literally like something out of a postcard (see the pictures) and it carries the test of time with its bricks and walls. It is absolutely classy and perfect for a date hike. The views are great all around and if time permits, I highly recommend you take a stroll down to the adjacent beach. The tower itself is a single file passage and it does feel a bit claustrophobic, and yes, the view is great but you don't get to enjoy it because there'll be a long line in a single file waiting for you to get out. We visited in late fall during Thanksgiving and the drive towards Montauk Point was also quite a beauty. The endless colorful fall leaves that carpeted both above and the sides of the road was a scene to behold. Make sure to visit towards sunset. Although it is the eastern tip so you won't be seeing sunset into the horizon of the ocean, you'll absolutely enjoy orange skies towards the land, and the drive back will be absolutely phenomenal.

The Montauk Point Lighthouse Museum is a fun place to visit. Lots of historical displays and history about the point, the lighthouse, and the Fresnel lenses. Also the climb up into the lighthouse is well worth it but you have to be steady on your feet and be able to follow their directions about going up and down the stairs since it's a tight fit. View is gorgeous but it's one person at a time. Great visit and world def recommend.

Very cool experience! I live in Nassau county so it was about a 2 hour drive each way to get out to the lighthouse. There is some very cool history behind this particular lighthouse. Commissioned by George Washington, oldest active lighthouse in NY, and 4th oldest active lighthouse is the country. The museum has a lot of information packed into the little building as well. The climb to the top of the lighthouse is about 137 steps, but the views are spectacular, so worth the climb. The one thing I wish they would change is to allow visitors to walk around the entire outside walkway of the lighthouse to allow for a better 360° view. It costs $8 to park at the nearby lot, and it is $13 per adult for the ticket (seniors and children are cheaper, and I think military is free but if not definitely discounted). Hope you enjoy.

Historic, well maintained lighthouse. Definitely worth a visit to the museum and lighthouse from the outside. Great views of the coast from the lighthouse grounds and the museum was nice. The line to enter the lighthouse (and climb to the top) was pretty long (over 30 min wait on weekends)…standing outside in April was very cold and windy! Not sure it was worth the wait & cost to take the 5 min trip up to the top of the light house.

Stunning View, Beautiful Lighthouse and the most important thing DOG NOT ALLOWED! remember this! Could be better if I will be able to get into the ground but I couldn't. I saw the sign of guard dog so that is why, unless it is a service dog who well train and well behaved. I thought at the beginning they won't just allow you to enter to the building but even the ground you can't. We walk around outside the lighthouse gate and on the beach. It was stunning even the weather was hot in early September. I can see fog on top of the lighthouse and the beach that next to giant rocks. On the side of the lighthouse there are people fishing and it was so mysterious looking. Even it was out of season but still many tourists, think about in the summer it probably packed. My friend how live here told me, coming during high season is a mistake. Lots of traffic in Montauk, everyone eat and go to the same place and as you know Montauk is not a big town and has limitation of utilities and convenient stuff. Everything seems to be more expensive here than regular long island area. Anyway, Montauk Point Lighthouse is the most must go when you visit Montauk.

This is a beautiful area and will be even nicer when they finish renovations. Walking around the rocks dropped to protect the shoreline offers great views of both the ocean and the lighthouse. I did not pay the fee to enter the lighthouse this time. I've toured many years ago and it was beautiful, but $13 admission seemed like a lot this time.

It’s a stunning place to visit and unwind. The museum opens at 10.30 am, and adult tickets cost $15. Children under 42” in height cannot enter the lighthouse but can enjoy free admission to the museum. If you plan to visit the lighthouse, I recommend going early because there tends to be a long line. My daughter particularly enjoyed the underwater interactive session.

Loved the area. Lots to see without spending money on the lighthouse itself. Go over to the restaurant patio and on a good day you can see across to CT, RI, and Block Island. There's a nice park around the parking lot. There's a hiking trail. You can also hike down to the rocky beach area. It's unfortunate that they want you to pay to even get on the grounds of the lighthouse itself. Don't mind paying extra for a trip to the top, but $13 a person just to look at the building is a bit much. Go check out the Fire Island lighthouse for free. Only pay for a trip to the top.

I made it a point to drive to the end of Long Island to Montauk Point! I didn’t find any Montauk monsters but instead discovered a gorgeous lighthouse which you can climb to the top for $15. Its worth the climb to see the interiors of the lighthouse. If only it wasn’t so far away! I do think the $8 parking was a rip off at this desolate location.

It is a tourist attraction and part of history (First lighthouse in NY) so I am confused with people complaining about it being crowded (Duh). There is plenty of information and items on display. Admission is $15 and there is a seniors discount. This is in addition to the $8 in parking. It can get very windy. 137 steps on a spiral staircase to get to the top which on a nice day offers spectacular views. Interactive virtual aquarium for the kids as well.

The view from the Montauk Lighthouse is absolutely breathtaking! I have always loved this place. The grounds around the lighthouse are well-maintained and perfect for a picnic or a relaxing walk. Overall, it's a great spot for a family outing!

The Montauk Lighthouse in Montauk, NY, is a captivating sight that combines historic significance with stunning natural beauty. Whether viewed from the parking lot or the nearby beach, this iconic structure stands tall against the Atlantic Ocean, creating a picturesque scene that will leave you in awe. The lighthouse's well-maintained white exterior and its position on a cliff add to its charm. While access to the lighthouse itself may be limited, the views from the beach and the surrounding area are truly breathtaking. Prepare to be mesmerized by the Montauk Lighthouse's timeless allure and its remarkable surroundings.

Visited the lighthouse at labor day with family. The ticket was$15 for adults and $5 for kids, and it is totally worth it. As long as you are willing to wait for somewhat half an hour-ish, you can enter the lighthouse and go all the way to the top. The view is magnificent. You will know it when you see the entire Montauk beneath you.

The view from the top of the lighthouse is beautiful. The museum describes a lot of the history of the lighthouse and area. The staff is knowledgeable. And they have a golf cart to help disabled people up the hill

View is fabulous. Museum is cute. You do have to pay a small fee for parking. The parking lot is very close to the attraction. The tower climb was a work out but worth it. The museum has a fantastic exhibit that gives information on all of the nearby lighthouses.

This is a cool landmark to check out. It is the eastern most point of the United States. The lighthouse museum is very historic with a very rich heritage. I’m a big history buff and love coming here. In the summer I usually come here before I head over to montauk beaches(Edison)

It happened to be warm sunny Saturday afternoon at the end of October. Parking was available. The line to the top of the light house was not bad.

I think I was unlucky to go on a day so full of people, I couldn't even park my BMW at the moment 2☆ I'll be impressed next time 5☆ The truth is I had a big hype for taking photos, it was sad not even being able to find parking

It's silly you need to pay to just go up for a view. Even if you don't want to visit the museum. Better to take the path to the left and go around on the rocks so you can see the same view for free...

Very cool spot to visit when in Montauk. First operational lighthouse I've ever toured, and w pleasantly surprised they allow visitors to climb to the top of the tower. Museum is larger than it appears with lots of interesting facts and history about the area. Gift shop had a lot of great gifts and prices were reasonable.

If you are in Montauk the Montauk Lighthouse is a must see. Has a nice museum with a lot of interesting facts. The climb to the top is fun with nice views. But you can't walk around the top of the lighthouse. Only one person can stand outside. Do not lose or throw away your receipt, you need it to go to the top and they do check. Beautiful grounds and nice scenic views. A must see.

We visited the place the day before New Year's Eve, finding the lighthouse closed. While the lighthouse provides a vibrant ambiance reflecting the Atlantic, there is no dedicated beach area. Unfortunately, there are no food stalls near the lighthouse. However, a paid restroom is available on the opposite side of the lighthouse.

Amazing views, history and staff. I spoke with John, who has long white hair and works at the lighthouse and he was able to answer all of my ridiculous questions. He's an amazing person to have on staff.

Historically interesting and a beautiful vista. As with most historic sites these days it is pretty commercial with a steep fee for touring the museum etc and a pricey gift shop. There are so photo areas but the beach side was closed due to construction while I was there. Be prepared for quite a slow drive through East Hamptons and the other small towns. I felt it was worth the drive but elected not to walk the trails due to the many tick warnings posted. Had I known, I would have brought repellent and dressed accordingly.

Such a beautiful place to visit. We stayed at Hither Hills Camp and we visit here everytime we camp there. Such a breath of fresh air. We also love the park there. Super clean and fun.

Not to be missed! This 200+ years old lighthouse provides stunning views of the Atlantic, Long Island Sound and the cliffs of Montauk. Great history to be learned or remembered. Fascinating displays and photos inside.

Nice little museum at the tip of Long Island nak overlooking the Atlantic ocean. You can go to the very top of the lighthouse for a great view and photo op. Costs $15 per adult when we went. Kids must be at least 41 inches tall to go up the lighthouse. We waited about 20-30 minutes to go in the lighthouse, then waiting your turn as people go up. It's small on there so only so many people can go up at a time. The balcony is small only two people can be on it at a time.

This was our first visit to the lighthouse and I fell in love with the area. The history on display was very interesting and the views are amazing. Every single staff member was extremely nice, very well informed and helpful. We will definitely be back!

Historic Lighthouse turned into a Museum. Staff is awesome and knowledgeable. Lots of artifacts on display, including the old fresnel lenses, some of which are setup for demonstration. Relatively short experience, but worth the beautiful view and fun trip.

I went here on a bus trip with my local library. It is a very nice park grounds. It wasn't too crowded and it was clean. We did have a long wait to go up onto the lighthouse but it was worth it.

A must see Historical Landmark. I love light houses. This was an amazing surprise and a moment that i will always treasure. Prepare for long drive so bring snacks and not too much juice for the kiddos. Only one long road in and out. However well worth the trip. Beautiful photo taking places.
