I had a wonderful experience visiting Fire Island Lighthouse. I parked my car in Field 5 of Robert Moses park as close to the end of the parking lot, and there is a boardwalk that leads you all the way to Lighthouse. It is close to 15 to 20 minutes walk to Lighthouse from parking lot of field 5. There are some benches along the way for you to sit and relax. Boardwalk is very well maintained and numbered in case someone lost their way. The parking fee is $10 per car for field 5, and the visit to the top of Lighthouse costs $10 for an adult. All the volunteers working inside Lighthouse were providing excellent customer service. There is a small museum and gift shop for you to visit before taking plenty of steps to go on the top of Lighthouse. You are permitted to stay at the top gallery for 20 to 30 minutes, considering people waiting downstairs to go up. The lighthouse top portion is restricted, but you can take a picture of lenses that flash every 7 seconds. Lighthouse is currently fully operational and in good condition. Restrooms inside the lighthouse were very clean during our visit. Mask must be worn to go inside the Lighthouse.

Fire Island Lighthouse is a nice site for a national park. To get to the lighthouse and the beach adjacent to the lighthouse, you do park in Robert Moses State Park Field 5 then walk over. Park a close to the entrance to the park where the road looks back towards Fire Island Inlet Bridge. Then take the boardwalk to get to the lighthouse. The main building houses a small museum which is interesting and the gift shop. Couldn't climb the tower the day we were there but it was still a great esoteric to look at the museum, lighthouse and the Fresnel lenses. Def worth a trip. The rest of the park has to be accessed by ferry across the bay from Bay Shore.

Iconic and historic lighthouse on Fire Island. Parking is available at Field 5 and the lighthouse can be accessed by a ~3/4 mile walk on a boardwalk through the brush. There is a small museum located beneath the lighthouse that describes its history and more. The top of the lighthouse can be accessed by a small fee. There are restrooms available inside the museum. A nearby path can be used to access the beach!

This is a national park on a small stretch of the Long Island sound. It is very tranquil here. Great for walks both on the boardwalk and on the beach. There is a little museum and store with clean restrooms that you can visit and learn about the history of the lighthouse and it’s functioning. Presently I don’t believe you can go to the top as there seems to be some restoration work happening.

0.7 mile walk from the parking lot, on a boardwalk surrounded by tall plants and very friendly deer. I went on an extremely windy day with a little chill in the air. Was not crowded. $10 to climb. Guide was very knowledgeable. Steps were wide and felt safe. Wonderful views. Short walk to the beach. 💙

What an amazing experience. If you are from the South Shore of Lind Island this is a must. Tourists visiting the area should make sure this is on their list. Amazing one of a kind views from a spot we are all familiar with. The staff was informed and extremely friendly and professional. The light was turned off the year I was born and I believe turned back on in the mid eighties at some point. The old dark spooky lighthouse was saved by the work of some locals and looks much better with the lights on.

My favorite place to visit when I'm home for the holidays. Beautiful walk out from the beach parking lot. Great boardwalk making it really accessible. The info center/museum is worth the stop if you're around during its operational hours. And do pay to go up to the top of the Iighthouse - it always provides a beautiful view, regardless of the weather.

Great for children. Took 6 year old members of the family here to enjoy a day of sightseeing and see a real lighthouse for the first time. Great extensive walking experience. Took pictures together, walking on the way there and back. The view of the lighthouse with the moon in broad daylight was breathtaking. We were unable to go up to the lighthouse as they close the lighthouse tour by 3:30p, but we were able to enjoy the second floor are and first floor museum. The store had nice souvenirs. We bought little plush toys for the children, and then we topped this experience off with a nice dinner restaurant for the adults (little ones loved it too). They loved everything about this trip and went right to sleep once we got home. We are sold and would do this again.

Nice, well preserved and relatively old lighthouse. Very photogenic. Definitely worth to visit. Admission to climb up is 10$ but because of the current limited capacity the wait time in line can be up one hour and a half. Not sure that is worth waiting for so long. Views from the top are good but nothing too special.

So beautiful!! We walked from the Robert Moses parking lot after going to the beach and it’s 3/4 of a mile one way. They still require masks so be sure to bring a mask with you or they sell them for $1. It’s $10 per person to climb the lighthouse and it’s so worth it. Gorgeous views of the island and it was a super clear day so we could see the city as well!

Pretty cool place! If you're heading to Fire Island Beaches the lighthouse is about a 3/4 mile boardwalk stroll from the field 5 parking lot. It cost $10 per person, which I thought was a little steep, but it has a fantastic view at the top. Worth the walk from the parking lot, and worth the 182 steps to the top. The only other annoying thing was that they were still requiring masks in order to enter the buildings. Maybe they'll change their policy soon?

We love going here super early in the morning every so often to watch the sunrise on the beach. We've been doing it for years. Really a life-changing experience and so breathtaking every time. The boardwalk through the dunes is so pretty and well maintained. Hesitated to write a review because I'd like to keep this place private. It's always so peaceful when we go, but there are usually a few others who have the same idea as us. As long as it stays that way I'll be happy! They do tours of the lighthouse at more normal hours of the day in season.

I came here on a weekend day late in April, right before the summer season kicked off. We parked at Robert Moses Field 5 and walked over to the lighthouse. The weather was nice and the sky was clear (highly recommended visiting on a day like this!) The staff at the lighthouse are knowledgeable and friendly. There’s a little museum at the base you can walk around to learn about the history of the area and the building’s former uses. There’s also a newer building right next store that has some of the older lanterns/lights used at the lighthouse before the current one. To get to the top of the lighthouse you must first buy a ticket ($10/adult). It is then a 5-10 minute walk to the top along a winding staircase. Once you reach the top a staff member will let you know when it’s clear to go out onto the observation deck. The views are breathtaking! It was such a clear day, you could see the vast horizon of the Atlantic to the south, Fire Island stretching to the east, and, if you could believe it, the skyline of NYC on the horizon to the west (~50 miles, zoomed in it can be seen on my posted pictures). This is a beautiful place and a perfect spot to visit if you’re in the area or as the main attraction of a day trip!

Beautiful view from the top. Afterwards you can walk to the restaurants and bars in town or walk to the beach. The place is so much better if you bring your bike because you can visit all the little towns there, just be warned that all the restaurant as closed once the summer season is over. If you go in the off season, you can pack a lunch, there are tons of beautiful places to have a picnic. The wild life is beautiful as well. When you walk the trails there are migrating birds and deer all over. Great place to spend the day with the family. Park at Robert Moses field 5 and take the trail to the light house or you can also take the fire island ferry

What a neat place to visit. Nice walk along boardwalk through sand dunes up to the lighthouse. Small gift shop. Multiple areas to look at in the museum. Paid to go up to the top of the lighthouse. What a view!!! There was a worker, Angela, who spoke with us up at the top and told us all about the light house and the geography of the surrounding area. Every worker was friendly and informative. If you are in town go visit this lighthouse!!!

Even better than I'd remembered as a child. It's been 15+ years since I've been here, and the experience and staff are as great as ever. Entry was free, and to go up the lighthouse is a donation of $10. The views from atop the lighthouse are well worth the meager donation they ask for, and- well worth the climb. Note: Masks are still required at this location, and are strictly enforced, even in August 2022. They can be purchased at the entrance if needed for $0.50/each.

One of the best beaches I've ever been to. It's beautiful white powder with long long beaches with tons of private space. Beach is maintained very nicely with beautiful boardwalks surrounding it. Take a walk up to the light house and come back along the beach. It's quite a bit of walking but is well worth it. It does cost $10 to go up the lighthouse - we did not go but it might be a nice view.

$10 per person to ascend to the top. There's also no parking at the lighthouse, you will have to park at Field#5 and walk to the lighthouse. There is a wheelchair accessible boardwalk whole way. I feel like it's worth and I'm sure the $10 helps preserve the place. Everyone working or volunteering here was very friendly. The view from the top is incredibly and you can just make out the Manhattan skyline in the far horizon.

Nice to visit a beautiful part of American history. The staff are very knowledgeable of the history of the lighthouse and welcoming to the centre. The walk to the light house was full of wildlife, and we were very lucky to see a deer. Great visitor location for history buffs, bird watchers, and keen wildlife enthusiasts.

The lighthouse is beautiful, There is a lens viewing edition with a delightful docent who loves telling you everything about them, he even has his Bichon to help. In the original lighthouse building there is a lovely gift shop and lots of wonderful things to read about the lighthouses of Long Island. The tower is currently under construction so you cannot go in. If you continue on to the boardwalk behind the tower it will lead you to a boathouse where you can learn more about the early rescues.

Beautiful scenic walk to the lighthouse from field 5. And just $10 to climb to the top. Be prepared to climb a lot of stairs and a couple ladders at the last 2 top levels. Totally worth the walk up with gorgeous views of Long Island from the top, even saw a couple of whales. Will definitely come back next summer!

Love going to this place every summer. Not a lot of people whether its weekend or weekdays. We used the pedicab to go to the lighthouse but you can also walk to get there. Just park in Field 5 Robert Moses beach. 10 dollars for the parking which is affordable. For pedicab going to the lighthouse cost $5 per person. The museum in the lighthouse is free but they are fixing the lighthouse so we didn't get to go up there. Overall, this is one of the best places in Long Island to explore.

Great 1 mile walkway to the lighthouse from field 5. Such a beautiful walk especially on a breezy day as we had. which makes it very pleasant as it kept the mosquitoes away and kept us cool in the sun. Get to there before 430pm because they close the lens house next door at that time. Make sure to explore all the walkways out back to reach the bayside.

This place is magical! We walked to the farthest part of the beach and the trail that took us to the charter was beautiful! Everything was so clean and well signposted and it was quiet. The museum is very interesting too. ❤️🌈

Parking is 10$ by the beach area Took the boardwalk to the lighthouse and then on to kismet. Long walk. Might be worth the 10$ for the pedicab ride to kismet-easily cuts the time down by 20 min

Great weekend adventure for us! Enjoyed the paths and the views. The staff was beyond friendly and the walk up to the top of the lighthouse was awesome. Nothing beats that view in that area! Just be warned the amount of dogs, even though there is signs everywhere about no pets. I’m totally fine with dogs being out and about with their owners but I’m only bringing this up because some guy (who had to have known his German Shepard is aggressive because of how he “restrained” the dog as we were walking by) wasn’t able to control his dog properly and it bit my girlfriend’s daughter’s arm.

This is a great park for all. Excellent for a hike, a bike, or a swim. Not always that busy either. You can go up into the lighthouse for a fee and will usually see wild deer. Great boardwalk for your convenience all the way out to the lighthouse and other attractions.

The boardwalk around the back of the lighthouse is closed due to parts of the facade falling off. You can still walk down to water on bay side and along water to dock behind ranger station. The gift shop and museum is open but not able to climb the lighthouse.

Great little place to visit. Enjoy the winding boardwalk through the brush that leads to the two small museums. Plenty of photos depicting lighthouse history. Staff is super friendly and helpful. Small giftshop offers hats, T-shirts, prints, snacks, etc. Take a walk up into the lighthouse for a view of the bay and ocean.

Very nice landmark to go visit . Volunteers manning The lighthouse are very nice and helpful. Amazing views from the top 360 degrees around the lighthouse. My kids had a fun time climbing the stairs to the top and got a certificate when they came back down.

It was our first visit to Fire Island. We were in town visiting from Delaware. We were hiking and had the opportunity to visit and climb the lighthouse. We were very impressed. There is a building at the base that has the history of the lighthouse and a gift shop. The climb costs $10. Most of the climb is a circular staircase (185 stairs to be exact). Note: While the stairs get you most of the way there, there two sets of very steep wooden ladder like stairs at the very top with rope handles. That might be a consideration when deciding whether to climb. The view from the top is beautiful, and well worth it if you can make it there.

  • 4/5 Eric 2 years ago on Google
The views are great. There are deer all year round! Just bring your own food and snacks The $8 entrance fee gets you into the lighthouse and the beach. You need a mask to go up the light-house. They have masks for $1

Visiting lighthouses is a great pastime. The Fire Island Lighthouse staff were kind and knowledgeable of the history surrounding the Lighthouse. In the shop, of you weren't aware of it already, you can receive a stamp for your National Park Passport. We were the last group to walk inside the Lighthouse. Walking up the spiraled staircase was enjoyable- despite the heavy beach bag I should've left with the staff below. Regardless, the view above made the climb well worthwhile. The wind was fierce but felt great! There's a real novelty in seeing the ocean from the height of a Lighthouse. If you can handle the climb, then you should visit the Fire Island Lighthouse and experience the view for yourself.
