First time here despite however many years on Long Island. This place is a hidden gem. It was very quiet when we went (on a weekday) so parking was not an issue. Parking is self-pay— you pay at a kiosk but it wasn’t working when we went. Trails are heavily shaded and it’s a great walk, leading to the beach, a lookout, and a pond. Lots of mud crabs at the pond. It’s quite a beautiful place that people go to for picnics, walks, and fishing. However, a shame about the pollution (see photo). Bring water. Not stroller friendly at some points as there are steps. Don’t miss out!

Truly recommend for nature lovers. I enjoyed all this place had to offer. 🦋parking is $4 & its self pay. There is also different memberships offers. 🦋there is a bathroom area but it's closed. Didn't appreciate that especially that I came during hours it should've been open. But there are portable potters. 🦋 The refuge has four different trails you can take. There’s ones that lead straight into the beach as well as overlooks. 🦋 Very rocky beach with lots of pebbles crabs and horseshoe crabs. It’s a secluded section of the beach. 🦋saw so many deers here, love the nature. 🦋theres a historic area here about the famous rock. 🦋lots of people were fishing here, having picnik , etc. 🦋overall definitely recommend.

I love this place, but the parking lot is very small so you'll have to get there early on the weekends. To get to the beach, you need to follow a beautifully maintained trail that makes you think your in a Forest. The beach itself is mostly pebbles and very clean. You will find an occasional soda can and other forms of garbage which is a shame, if your going to bring food and drinks, then you need to take your garbage out! Garbage cans and recycling bins can be found in the parking lot. I try to pick-up what i can left on the beach and dispose of it properly.

Just when you think that Northern Long Island can't get anymore beautiful you discover this place. We loved it except for the puke of garbage on the beach. I posted a pic with this review. I'll be bringing a couple of garbage bags with me next time I visit.

The refuge has four different trails you can take. There’s ones that lead straight into the beach as well as overlooks. Very rocky beach lots of pebbles crabs and horseshoe crabs. It’s a secluded section of beach the public can enjoy! The Tall trees here and a lush forest area will help you take your mind of the concrete jungle for a hot second. Cheers!

Very nice walking trails. You can enjoy nature and be free from the noisy busy places. Parking is $4 and it is self pay. There is a little booth with yellow envolop, and leave the sleeve from the envolop on top of your dashboard.

I love this place. It’s a wonderful area to meditate early in the morning. Is quiet and clean, which I encourage for all that visit to keep it the same.

It'ss a very beautiful and calm place with amazing nature. But so that everyone can enjoy the trails and the place I advise you not to visit on a very hot day. :)

Nice relaxing short trail. Easy for 2 years old to walk. Great views of the water and nice sitting area.

Decent park.. good example of native flora on long island with some old growth trees.. short walk to shore.. most interesting part is the shore which hasn't been reconditioned/covered with sand meaning you see what the north shore was like originally (mostly smooth rocks about baseball sized) kind of neat to check out but otherwise a somewhat underwhelming park

I was very excited to experience the beach and trails however I am shocked and traumatized by the amount of ticks I had encountered at the beach. Surprisingly the ticks were navigating through the sand- I didn’t even realize I was getting bit all over until it was too late. Please be careful if you decide to visit, I saw full grown ones and extremely tiny nymphs as well.
