Beautiful park with old growth forest. This is one of the hardest hikes I’ve done in Long Island. It’s a lot of inclines and declines right from the beginning of the trail. It’s not a long trail although you can continue onto other trails that will take you through a lot of other areas. If you’re looking for an easy Long Island, this isn’t it. The start to this trail will test your leg strength. This trail is more like a hike in the mountains than a hike on flat Long Island. I have never encountered a trail like this on the island before. Definitely feels more like a Catskills trail but not as long. If you’re looking for a hike that’s challenging but don’t want to drive upstate, this is a good one to try.

Nice, hilly start to a trail that runs all the way from the north to south shore of long island. A compact park that packs about 700 feet of elevation gain within a mile or two. Great for trail running, hiking, or just a lunch break

My go to hike spot. Love coming here for a nice workout or relaxing self care walk. Its family and pet friendly. There are some rough climbs but its do-able. There is even the option to take alternative (harder) paths which some people might find confusing but if you stay on the main heavy trailed path you’ll be fine. There are also numbers on trees to keep you on the path (I believe it starts with 100 to 117). The parking lot is on the dirt and if its full you can park across the street. Theres also a beautiful water front view across the street where I go to treat myself after the hike. Cant wait to go tomorrow 😊🥾!

A great trail to hike with a decent level of difficulty, especially for being on Long Island. Views are beautiful, and it’s dog friendly. Highly recommend to check out this trail if you enjoy being in nature.

Best “workout trail” on Long Island. And because of that EVERYONE and I mean EVERYONE wants to “hike” there!!! I LOVE the trail and it is a great challenge, the problem is most of the people on it are there for the Instagram Post or because they saw it on some social media platform. It took a great hike and ruined it

we decided to take this on in 100degree heat-bad choice. fairly difficult, steep hike. went to take photos-luckily there's the harbor on the other side of the road. worth while for hikers & those looking for a bit of a challenge ..

I'm a noob hiker and popped by here just today. To be honest, I'm not really a fan. The path was a bit confusing and there wasn't much to see. I ended up turning back halfway. Parking was somewhat of a pain. Parking lot was small and crowded. I honestly enjoyed the water side much more.

Very nice trail, wasn't sure what to expect so only went in half a mile. Planning on coming back in a few weeks to do the entire trail, I believe it is 5 miles total?? Trail is nicely marked and has some significant inclines.

By far the best hike on Long Island! The elevation and terrain make it a nice workout, but nothing too strenuous. It takes about an hour and a half to complete. It does not loop, just FYI. People of all ages come for this trail. Dog friendly (must be leashed) and has pretty views of the water. The library is right next door and has a walkway from the main train to their public restrooms which are always very clean. Walk down the street for downtown Cold Spring Harbor for food and shopping.

A beautiful spot to admire the harbor. There is a boat launch here and modest parking lot and a couple of benches to sit and watch the sunset. There are numerous boats moored here and is across from the Cold Spring Harbor Labratory campus.

Love this hiking trail. Have been going to this place since my kids were barely 2 years old. This hike is not for everyone, but doable. Lots of up and downs. The beauty of this place is that the tree roots form beautiful stairs for you to walk or grab on. It is a medium to high intensity. Bring water and enjoy this amazing hike. The higher you get, the better the view (during fall and winter ). During summer time, the beautiful foliage covers this trail with tons of shade. Bring bug spray(or not, bugs are part of this natural trail). There are a lot of people that bring their pets (dogs) on the trail. A lot of people have then on a leash and many don't There is a free parking lot or you can park on the street.

Beautiful, tree-laden hiking trails through hills near Cold Spring Harbor. Leashed dogs are welcome. This is a nice 2.25 mile, there and back hike. Medium effort.

Great Hike, roughly about 5 miles. (front and back) medium course, great for beginners that’s looking for a challenge.

Sometimes I feel like I don't have time to exercise. Whenever I feel like that to myself, I come to CSH. Just one first course is good enough for one day exercise for me. It has couple of hills that make me work hard. But best part of this place is that it is located close to my home and I am always thankful this park is in our town.

Get ready to climb! If you're looking for a strenuous, steep (yet safe) hike, definitely take the trip. It's absolutely beautiful, and well-used. Dog-friendly too.

Came here twice with my best friend and it was a workout. Omg I was dying but then again we are out of shape lolol. Great hiking path, great scenery, great experience. In total took us an hour to walk up and down. It was worth it.

This is a great place to go for scenic and challenging walk. There are a few trail options, the ones I have taken entail some climbing which posses actual steps or natural stepping elements such as tree roots, large stones, or ladder ground creations which makes climbing safe, enjoyable, yet more challenging then a basic walk. Because of the elevation, you are often subjected to some nice views over looking the bay and your path you have conquered. I like that the trails have a large parking lot and there are out-houses across the street should you need to use the restroom. I highly recommend these trails. I only gave it 4 stars because I have experienced other trails through the US that provide much greater views, otherwise, I would have rated this a 5 star. I will try to post pics later.

Love to hike here. One of the best parks around in the area IMO. trail is nice and clean, nice and wide in some spots. Parking lot is a mess, must easier to just park on the side street.

Great hike. Nice area. Everything went well until the end. Slightly slipped on my bottom. Loose rocks should have paid better attention.
