This is an animal rehabilitation clinic and the caretakers do a great job with each rescue. All staff members we encountered were eager to introduce us to and educate us about the various animals. It is evident that they enjoy what they do here and are making a positive impact with our wildlife (and domesticated animals, as well).

Sweet Briar has been a gem for decades. We brought our kids here throughout the years for the wildlife and the animals that are housed here for rehabilitation. There are several gardens and a couple of playground areas. Suffolk County Greenbelt cuts through the property, and there are a number of trails to get in a few miles wandering. Great outdoors spot, and a good amount of educational material. Restrooms available rest of nature center, between the parking lots.

What a great place, found a baby bunny late on a Saturday night. Kept bunny warm and safe until AM when I was able to contact sweet Briar. They were so helpful. Let me bring bunny to be taken care of and when is health and bigger will live on sweet briars land.

Izzy was an amazing instructor during our visit to Sweetbriar. The presentation was very informative and enlightening. It was great for our children to have a hands on experience with the animals. The preserve has so much information and so much to do. I highly recommend taking a trip to the preserve. Staff and volunteers were very friendly and helpful.

Great family friendly spot for a nature walk, and to let the kids see rehabilitated animals up close, including hawk, owl, bald eagle, hedgehog, rabbit, bearded dragon. Staff was very knowledgeable and patient. We did the drive through visit during coronavirus but could see coming back again when the center reopens.

We came for a kid’s birthday party. It was indeed an awesome idea! The kids loved to see the animals so much and have great fun there! And I learnt a lot too about the animals. It was a rainy day so we didn’t get to see the outside. Will definitely make another trip here in the future.

Such a peaceful nice walking trail/woods/bike path with fields of critters to see and enjoy with your family. Some of it is good for handicapped but is worth the trip for whole family!

Very nice place, especially if you are there with young kids. Well kept secret in Suffolk County, as very few people were there on a beautiful Saturday afternoon. Also a small butterfly exhibit, which costs $5 for adults, but the kids will love it.

Open year round and perfect on a Fall day. Not crowded like most of long island. It was quiet enough to see three deer. Staff is super friendly. Amazing small to medium sized rehab. They're doing good stuff here.

Horrible rehabilitation experience with Janine. She treated me like it was my fault with an injured animal someone i know had found. I know what was wrong with the animal and how the outcome is positive and I feel she didn’t do her job. I will never go here again and if I could give zero stars I would!!!

Everyone was so nice my fiancé found a baby possum and they were so helpful today and we were able to bring the possum there and get it some help . So glad places like this are around other animal hospitals, we called wouldn’t even take the baby possum.

I attended my grandsons birthday several months ago at the nature center and it was done very nicely. More recently, I visited and was very impressed with the work done here and the knowledge of the staff. Great place for kids to learn and explore. It will hold their interest.

They have a Halloween trail which sounded good and family friendly. However the tickets were sold out so they advised us to go no earlier then 8:00 pm by then they were selling tickets at the door. We got to not even a quarter of the spooky trail with 8 kids and they had started cleaning up and taking down the lights and props. Kids were let down for this we paid over 100.00 dollars. I wont be going back it was very misleading.

I saw a seagull in desperate need of help, I called the spca, they gave me the number to briar. They came and trapped him and he is now in good hands getting the medical attention this poor baby needs. I can’t thank them enough

An interesting opportunity to check out some animals up close. Most of the enclosures are home to owls or hawks of one kind or another, but there's also an eagle, turkey vultures, Canada geese, ducks, and assorted others. Smaller, more exotic rescue animals are housed inside. Everything is donation based, so bring cash and be generous.

Took my grandkids here. They have an indoor and outdoor portion of this preserve. The staff is very friendly and helpful, giving us individual attention. They took many reptiles, rabbits and other animals out of their cages and let the children handle them. Outdoors, they have numerous animals and birds in cages. In the summer they have a butterfly enclosure where the butterflies will land on you.

It seems not much going on during the winter..., I would definitely visit back when the weather gets warmer, looking forward to exploring more, by the way we saw a deer in the field, it made some excitement for us.

Great place, they truly care for the animals. This place isn't funded by the town which is a shame Which is why all the donations/help they get is crucial to keep this beautiful place here

I must see place with kids. The butterfly house is an excellent experience and it is very well priced. There’s an outdoor play area for kids and a small naturalist museum. This place rehabilitates animals and also has outdoor animal exhibits. Defiantly a family jewel on Long Island.

My first visit. Went for the butterfly exhibit. Too hot to walk around much so I can't really give a fair appraisal. This place does need an infusion of cash for upkeep. Thank God for the volunteers!!!

This nature center and wildlife rehab center is wonderful! One can see about 5 different species if owls, a few other raptors (including Harris hawks & red tailed hawks ), turtles, reptiles, an axolotyl, and more. There is an indoor rainforest room (with cockatoos next door) for a modest donation, an outdoor butterfly garden (also for a modest fee), gardens, hiking trails, & more. I'm excited to return (especially as my children were too tired to explore the hiking trails...)

Found a baby squirrel in the backyard that was lethargic, cold and had a few scratches to his paws and neck. Wrapped him with a warm pack and towel and he began to perk up. Then I got on the phone to find somewhere to take him. I was surprised to find that I had very poor luck with responses ranging from "we're full" to "we don't take squirrels". I was nearing a panic when I was referred to sweet briar by another wildlife shelter. I phoned and was told I could bring him in, even though it was close to closing time. I arrived and someone rushed out to scoop him up. I was told his prospects were not good but they would do their best and that yes, I could call and check on him. I filled out a short form then was on my way. I was so relieved I found a place for him as I have a very curious dog and couldn't imagine how I could nurse the little one back to health in my home if nobody would have taken him. Hoping he pulls through and so grateful to know the folks at sweet briar are around for even the smallest critters. Thank you! ***Update! Baby squirrel turned out fine after a bit of care!
