Update: lost a star due to heavy tick larva/possibly fleas. Major bites... Headed to dermatologist today. Love the park but won't be back until winter. I love this park... It feels like a hug. Small parking lot which holds six cars. Well marked trails... The grass paths are nicely kept... There are several paths that all kind of intersect at one point or another. One leads to the beach, another past a small pond. Some hills, grass, dirt, stumps. Love how quiet and peaceful it is... Lots of birds and deer. A perfect sanctuary. 8/27/2022 Update: still beautiful but experienced a lot of nymph ticks this time out. Spray was useless/stayed on path and still my ankles were covered in them. Ugg. see you after first frost.

Okay, so here's the deal from start to finish. The parking area only holds 6 vehicles. If it's filled up you'll have to park down the road a ways and possibly illegally. The trail starts out very green, very wide(8+ feet) and very sunny(and hot) in a mid August at noon. The signs say no dogs. Good thing my 20lb black Chi-weenie identifies as a 6 year old girl. No matter because we never saw anyone on the trail during the 3.5 mile hike. The trail does eventually turn into a normal trail hike with turns and hills. We took the long route by adding the area marked with dotted lines which takes you to Boney lane where you can double back to the main trail marked in red on AllTrails map. It adds a mile and a quarter to the total trek. The trail is 90% clear with the occasional spider web across the face, those crazy fleas that circle around your head and some thin thorny branch hanging in the path. I usually bring my clippers to do a little community service but forgot them this time. They weren't vital thankfully because the trail was very clear and well marked with yellow arrows on the trees. We also saw some white tailed deer. The highlight was definitely the beach view toward the end. There are at least 3 ways to get to the beach. The first one located on the return is a high up cliff that looks down. I do not recommend trying to get to the beach from there unless you fancy a broken leg. It is a beautiful view though with a bench to sit on. The second one also has a bench with green lawn and will give you access to the beach. The third one we didn't explore. All in all, I highly recommend the David Weld Sanctuary trail. See photos

My happy place. I take my two kids (3&6) every couple of months to see the changes in the seasons.

A beautiful preserve with a remarkable variety of habitat including open meadowlands, transition to mature woodlands, wetlands and shorelands. Spotted a piebald Wild Turkey! A pair of Mallard Ducks scouting for suitable nesting real estate, and had a close encounter with a Red Tailed Hawk, all within about an hour. Worth a visit!

Nice, clean open trails. Only 6 spots for parking. Opens at 9am till 5pm. Lots of wildlife to view. Birds of all different kinds, deer, and turkeys! I'd recommend bug repellent in the warmer months. Very good nature walking. Quiet and peaceful.

Nice quiet place, very buggy and trails seem like they haven't been maintained in forever. I love the quietness and beauty of nature. There are only 6 parking spots so first come first serve. I truly loved the beauty of the north shore water and cliffs near the beach.

What a hidden gem! So many beautiful trails. The best trail is the one that takes you to the Sound. So quiet and peaceful. Beware: There are only 6 parking spots. Sign says: First come First Served

The David Weld Sanctuary is a beautiful place to take a hike on the trails and enjoy being in nature. The trails are beautiful and well-maintained, and there's even a nice picnic spot overlooking the beach. The paths are a little tough on strollers, though, so if you're taking a baby, keep that in mind. The only downside is that there are only something like six parking spaces, so it's a craps shoot on whether or not you can park and get in.

This park overlooking some small cliffs has a marble bench dedicated to Suffolk county legislator Nora Bredes. A lovely overlook that allows for views to Connecticut's shore on a clear day. No bathroom facilities, or amusements, just woods and trails to a beach with boulders. But a very pretty nature preserve for a walk in the park.

👍 Beautiful beach and very quiet compared to other places. It's not overly crowded and the water isn't too deep (perfect for kids). There's a raft in the water where you can chill or jump off, they provide outdoor showers/bathrooms, a life guard hut, and gorgeous sunsets. There are multiple entrances...
