Gorgeous View !!!! This is the best hike trail park I visited so far. Nature amazed me with so beautiful view, complete forest or in the woods feel. The mountains with beautiful creative shapes into amazing waterfalls. All green all side. We loved this place. NOTE - If you want to cover the complete trail with no or less crowd, try to hit the trail by 7-8AM morning. We also started our day at 7:30AM, there was no car parked at that time, we completed by 10-10:30, it was fully crowded by then.

This was the main attraction for my birthday weekend in the Finger Lakes of New York State. You will need to get here early if you want to truly enjoy the area and be able to take pictures that aren't full of people. We started about 8am. All the brochures say there are 10 trails but the best route is to do the Gorge trail to the top and come back either the North or South Rim trail. You won't see much on the Rim trails other than woods and an occasional overlook when the leaves are still on the trees. There are 19 waterfalls, several bridges, and lots of water sculpted rock. Be prepared to do a lot of walking and even more steps to get to the top but it is worth it and your calf muscles can recover in the following days. This Trail would be very nice to walk in the fall with leaves changing or even no leaves on the trees.

Absolutely beautiful state park! It's a fairly easy hike that takes you under a couple waterfalls. It gets wet and muddy in some spots so be sure to wear shoes/boots and clothing you don't mind getting a little wet or dirty. Be sure to stop at the information center, one of the bridges was closed during our visit and the people working there helped us out by giving us map and marking a modified route passed the renovations and a side path that quickly takes you from the end back to entrance.

Absolutely wonderful the views are beautiful the trail is nicely done and easy to walk on you might get a little wet especially your feet . You don't need full on hiking boots for this trail but shoes are highly recommended. Make sure you stop in and ask the gentleman at the help center for a map they are great and very knowledgeable they told us 4-8 other water falls to go to once we were done. Tons of info in there check it out worth the trip !! I recommend starting on the Gorge trail from the main entrance there are a few locations you can get off and turn back on the Indian trail that way and it's they best walk through for the falls. For those of you with fur babies they are aloud on the Indian trail but there was signs posted know dogs on the Gorge trail. So pet friendly there just isn't room on the Gorge trail for people and dogs accident waiting to happen. I would recommend this place to any nature lover !!

Fantastic State Park, beautiful and very well maintained. There are A LOT of steps, so that is something to consider in advance, especially on hotter days or if you are going with people who may be less able to manage a steep incline. Its relatively shaded though, so even on hot days , you are rarely stuck in full sun for long. The steps are all looked after well, toilets were clean and there were a few lovely things in the gift shop, so would definitely recommend this if you are in the area. There are lots of restaurants and ice cream shops not too far from the park so we made a lovely day of it.

This trail has such a great view, and donโ€™t worry, photography from all angles will look amazing!!! I love the fact that you can actually touch some waterfalls, which is pretty cool to me. Definitely coming here again.

Amazing Views and trails. The mountains with beautiful creative shapes into amazing waterfalls. We did park our car at the bottom and took shuttle all the way up, shuttle charges 6 dollar per person. We started Indian trail from top going down with lot of look outs with good views. We were 4 adults and 3 kids so with kids it's easy to take Indian trail. They also have gorge trail which has amazing view but lot if stairs but would be totally worth it. Definitely worth visiting

A glen is a "deep, narrow valley, especially in the mountains". Well, Watkins Glen surely lives up to its name - breathtaking gorges boasting nineteen (19) waterfalls of various heights, widths and force cascading downhill. Jagged steep cliffs surround you at times, but the paths are well maintained. On our October 29th fall visit, many of the paths were wet, some with large puddles - so wear good water-resistant hiking shoes. The hike is moderate. Expect to climb or descend many stone steps. My group walked about 3.5 miles exploring the various trails. Thoroughly enjoyed this fairy tale setting.

It is a very scenic park in the Finger Lakes region. There are 3 trails from which we can have views of the gorge. The Gorge Trail runs closest to the stream and has about 800 fairly well maintained stone steps with bridges that provide spectacular views of about 19 waterfalls. The steps do get very slippery after the rain, and sensible waterproof footwear is recommended. The other 2 trails (Indian Trail and Southern Rim Trail) run along the wooded rim. Do check for weather conditions before making the trip. The car park has an entrance fee of US$10 per car for the day. The car parks do get full during the weekends.

Absolutely beautiful place. Not a hard hike. Can take about a half hour or more. Upper gorge rim trails to look down on gorge but the gorge trail is better. Many waterfalls (2 you can walk under)but Rainbow Bridge waterfall by far the best. Great for all ages

This is the best of the best of the best! Bring good sturdy waterproof hiking shoes. It is a do-able hike for most. We are 68. We took the shuttle bus to the top and hiked down. With my trashed knees it would have been to hard to hike up. It is just an amazing beautiful place. I hope we can do it again, and again!

I absolutely loved this place. We walked up a trail and down again. Wear comfortable shoes and clothing, as there are loads of steps. Walking down is certainly much easier than walking up. ๐Ÿ˜€ There are many little waterfalls on the way. It's absolutely beautiful. The rock formations are incredible. If you love just being in nature, this is a great place to visit. I would visit as much as I could.

Went on A Saturday! Got there at about 12:30pm, First the Bathrooms, (the south Entrance Bathroom is Quite Gross, very Muddy) the Lily Pond was such a Quaint Touch. The Cemetery is is Very Respectable and well taken care of. The perfect Place to Read, Pray and spend time with God OFF the Trail, away from Everyone. Stayed in the Cemetery until 3:30pm. (The heat of the day.) THEN HIKED. The Trail was very good and Strenuous. Itโ€™s a great Challenge. I took my Time admiring the Beauty of the Rocks and Slate, as well as stool special Noted of the different Sizes of Trees, And Species. The Slate and Rock was Gorgeous to walk on. Very Well kept Trail and I also took pleasure in the Gigantic Roots Areas of the Trails. The waterfalls and bridges were Spectacular. There were Rangers And Snack Shacks placed at all the Entrances. The Caverns area on The Lower Trail is really Mystical, Especially in the tunnels and Cave โ€œSettingโ€ Jacobs Ladder, At the end of The Gorge Trail, Really Tested My Faith and Strength with every step I Took. Lol, Iโ€™m Pregnant, and I was Backpacking the Trail,-Boy did my Legs Feel every Pound of it!! I decided after Jacobs Ladder I didnโ€™t Want to Murder myself this time going back DOWN the Hill, so Opted for North Rim Trail On the Way back. There were still A LOT of Stairs, starting again Once you go past lovers lane and the Suspension Bridge. BOTH Beautiful Spots. You come Out to the Main Entrance. They even have a Little Replica of the Gorge, with. Little Film playing And a Souvenir Shop. A Lot of Educational Turning Points. All-In-Allโ€ฆAfter turning back, and Hiking The rest of it back Up from the Main Go the South Entrance, I decided around 5:50pm to end My Endeavors. It was So Peaceful, Great and Relaxing, even with so Many People there. Met a couple of People and encouraged some others and the conversation was Really Nice to Enjoy. The Temperature was 82ยฐF and Was Great!!

Watkins Glen State Park is probably one of the more memorable New York state parks in the Finger Lakes area. With 778 acres to explore, most visitors head to the Gorge Trail, which snakes along Glen Creek through a 400 ft deep canyon. Although Watkins Glen State Park was a hidden gem to us, this unique natural landmark is widely known in the Finger Lakes area. What started out as a privately owned grist mill, has become a popular state attraction. Although Watkins Glen State Park was a hidden gem to us, this unique natural landmark is widely known in the Finger Lakes area. What started out as a privately owned grist mill, has become a popular state attraction with over 1 million visitors annually. My husband described Watkins Glen State Park like โ€œwalking up the stairs of a high rise building with a waterfall on each floor.โ€ Although there are 800+ steps along the almost 2-mile Gorge Trail, it ends up being a fairly easy hike due to the constant stopping to take in the 19 waterfalls along the way. The way the water has carved the canyon walls is absolutely incredible. The pictures donโ€™t do it justice. During the tourist season, Watkins Glen State Park can become quite crowded. When we travel, we are big fans of hitting sites early in the morning. I canโ€™t stress enoughโ€ฆto avoid the crowdsโ€ฆgo early! We arrived at this park by 7:30am and spent about 3 hours taking in its beautyโ€ฆcrowd free. This would not have been the case had we arrived closer to lunchtime. As we were leaving the park, parking lots were now full and visitors were pouring in. It was quite the park! I highly recommend a visit if you happen to be in the area.

It is an amazing place to visit. More than 1.5 miles of scenic gorge, waterfalls, and beautiful nature. And many miles more trails in the woods. Make sure you are wearing good hiking shoes. The walkways are wet, sometimes muddy, and can be slippery. The park offers some truly breathtaking views. Thousands of stunning photo opportunities. All the amenities you could need are here. Several gift shops, rest rooms, sitting areas, food, parking, playground, grills and picnic areas, etc. Admission to the park itself is free. However, it will cost you 10 dollars to park your car for the day. This is a park you will remember for life. I highly recommend you check it out.

This is one of the nicest state parks I've ever been to. The Gorge trail is amazing. It's not quite 2 miles and the views are incredible. It is an easy hike for the most part, but there is a lot of stairs. It is a must see if you are in Watkins Glen.

Amazing!!! A great trail for the whole family! Very beautiful and mesmerizing views. Light enough for many people. There are ups and downs, but everything is compensated by gorgeous views. There are shuttles to return to the beginning of the route to the parking lot. I will definitely come back again!!!

Beautiful waterfalls!!! Lost of stairs but it is soooo worth it! The power of nature is amazing! The whole Gorge trail is breathtaking from first step till last! *wear closed shoes that hold your feet well and are preferably water resistant. The ground is often wet, slippery, and uneven. However this it still an easy hike with breathtaking views that you do NOT want to miss!

Absolutely stunning. We visited in early October, and it was perfect timing to see the leaves starting to change. Hiking-wise, you definitely need some decent shoes. It is not a difficult hike, but there are a fair amount of stairs and a fair amount of water. It can get a little slippery.

Absolutely gorgeous. It's literally like walking through scenery from Lord of the rings. Magical and breathtaking. There's something you see in every direction. We are going to come back in the fall because the leaves are going to look incredible around the falls. Lots of climbing up stairs and walking but absolutely worth it because your just winding around waterfalls. Definitely recommend some sturdy water shoes as some places are really wet. Would recommend getting there earlier as it does get crowded because this is one of the most popular places to visit in the area! Parking is $10 but if you pay for one of the other parks that are only $9 you can use that same pass lol. They have bathrooms at both entrances. We parked at the lower entrance and walked up and then turned back around to walk back down but they do offer a paid shuttle if you want to go all the way up to the upper entrance.

Very easy hike with beautiful scenery. Definitely recommend coming peak foliage and if you want to avoid crowds, try getting there before 10am. The hike itself is only took an hour and a half to go there and back; 2 hours if you're taking your time and stopping to take pictures. Parking is $10 for the day.

The park is well-maintained and peaceful. There are accessibility options like ramps at the bottom of the main entrance and shuttles. The Gorge Trail has a good deal of stairs and lovely views of water falls, the gorge, and greenery on the walls of the gorge. I went in the evening and the light was beautiful! Another morning hike showed darker and greener views

I brought my daughter here for a day trip. Even though the Gorge Trail was busy, it was completely stress-free. We did not feel rushed at all and had the opportunity to take over 120 pictures on the walk. The Gorge Trail is amazing, as highlighted by the included photos. Be aware that the walkways can get quite wet with puddles and clay. Additionally, there are quite a few stairs to climb along the trail, indicated by the moderate skill level designation. If you have any interest or connection with nature, this is a must experience.

This place is unreal. Absolutely beautiful. I have never seen a gorge before and it really feels like something out of a dream. The waterfalls were so pretty and walking through the trails really helps you appreciate nature. I highly recommend going here. The gift shop is a little pricey but hopefully the profits go to the park. If you havenโ€™t been here and like nature or hiking you need to go.

If you love waterfalls Watkins Glen State Park is the place for you. The Gorge trail is about 1.5 miles one way and follows the Glen Creek through tunnels carved into the rock, next to many waterfalls and you actually walk under two waterfalls. While there are over 800 stairs it is an easy trail because you stop so often to take in the views. Having said that the trail is definitely not handicap accessible. Use the main entrance as it gives you the best views. If you choose not to walk back there is a shuttle at the upper parking lot that will take you back to the main parking lot. Entrance to the park is free but there is a $10 parking fee. You can park on the street for two hours for free. I recommend going early in the morning to avoid the crowd which can get in the way of your pictures. Going late afternoon will give you a beautiful rainbow at Rainbow Falls as the water catches the sun.

Some incredible rock formations and waterfalls to be seen in only an hour's hike. Warning- there are a lot of stairs and water sitting on the trails. Be sure to bring shoes with good traction that you don't mind getting dirty. Aside from the hike, there's an incredible array or different waterfalls. I absolutely loved it. there were also plenty of staff on the trails along the way. Feel free to ask them any questions you have- they are very helpful. Definitely pay this place a visit. you won't regret it!

Remarkably beautiful, up to date park. The Gorge Trail is a must (no dogs allowed for safety reasons) with 19 waterfalls from end to end within 2.5 miles! You can park at the lower or upper entrance. Cascade Cavern waterfall is so beautiful and you can walk behind it. There is a suspension bridge, placards explaining the history and sights, multiple trails (Indian Trail is above the Gorge Trail and is just ok). Be careful in the parking lot as I got a screw in my tire I immediately had to fix. It's the best park within an hour of Ithaca

During your Finger Lakes trip, a visit to Watkins Glen State Park is a must. This stunning gorge trail features numerous waterfalls. Perfect for photography enthusiasts, aim for early mornings or weekdays to avoid crowds. The entry fee is $10 per car. Note that the trail isn't stroller-friendly, but a $6/adult shuttle from the Main to Upper Entrance can make it easier for young and elderly visitors to enjoy the Gorge Trail and its 19 waterfalls. Restrooms are available at the parking lot. The last shuttle pickup is at 5.30pm.

One of the better sights to experience in the United States. Over a mile of cascading waterfalls through the gorge. A great leg workout, especially to wear down your kids, but not if you are not in somewhat decent shape or experience walking and stability issues. There are over 800 stair steps involved. As someone who's walked it dozens of times, it's best to park in the state lot for a small fee and walk in (it's free access). This allows you to experience the escalation of sights there from bottom to top. Then, hike all the way to the very top, ending at Jacob's ladder (stairs). You'll feel the burn, but there's a snack bar at the park. Then, after a rest, hike downhill on the trail to the bridge, just past the gorgeous historic Cementary. Check out some of the stones there if you have time as there is a survivor of the Titanic and even Buffalo Soldiers buried there. Then, cross the bridge at the bottom and continue to the left, downhill to the stairs that overlook the village. From there you can easily return to the starting point and depart home. You could also do the opposite and park up top, hike down the trail, and then up the gorge as well to end that way and avoid any parking challenges. ๐Ÿค™

This place is spectacular. 100% reco a stop. There are a lot of stairs and it is muddy in places so wear proper shoes and consider bringing a hiking stick. The waterfalls are just amazing. There is parking just outside the park, but you can also find parking in town for free if itโ€™s not a busy day. Dogs are only allowed on the higher trails, so suggest leaving them at home if you want to see the best parts of the gorge!

This place is absolutely breathtaking! It made our trip to Ithaca to see waterfalls worth every Penny! Do NOT skip this place on a visit near the area! Park in the bottom parking lot though because the upper parking has you walk down a STEEP embankment and a bunch of stairs which is only good for hikers.

It's funny when people here give lower ratings because parts of the park (or the whole park) are closed due to weather conditions for public safety ๐Ÿ˜Š Ignore those reviews - this state park is truly a must-visit. Just plan ahead for the weather. I'd visited after a heavy rain event, so all waterfalls had a higher than normal volume of water. Part of the trails were closed due to flooding, but even with that limitation, it was worth the trip. It was hard for me to believe that such a wonder of nature didn't require a plane trip to a remote area. I would love to go back in the autumn when the leaves are changing color.

This park is like something out of a fantasy world, but it's very much a real place! One beautiful waterfall after another! Fairly easy 3 mile round trip hike. The path is walled in and floored with flat stone. There are stairs and bridges, so this trail may be difficult for individuals who have trouble getting around on foot. The trail is heavily shaded and nestled in rock, so even in warmer weather, the trail remains fairly cool. Warning, you may get wet, as some sections of the trail pass under or near waterfalls.

Absolutely amazing place and easy hike. About 900 steps but there are easy. One way takes about an hour so you need at least 2 hours to enjoy or they also have shuttles to take you up or down. 9$ parking for car, no tickets needed, shuttle is 6$ per person one way

Awesome experience with the kiddos. The trail is way easier to walk down than walk up. So we drove up dropped everyone and drive some cars down and kept one big car up will all the drivers. In this case it was way easier to. And the breeze was amazing the view of the different falls. Itโ€™s a miracle fall. The kids enjoyed it.

Watkins Glen State Park is a wonderful way to spend the day. The gorge hiking trail is strenuous but amazing with views of waterfalls and rock formations. Highly recommending visiting, it's a must see destination. There are no entrance fees, parking is $10 which is more than reasonable and well worth it. The rocks can be slippery along the trail so suggest wearing appropriate shoes. The main trail is not stroller friendly so a pack would be helpful.

Wonderful place! The hiking is fantastic. The sites are very large and many have water and power. Damping station was great and easily accessible. The washrooms were good but the showers sure were chilly. You have no control of the temp and I am assuming who ever set the temp was very hot. Bigger units will have a fair bit of trouble getting into some of the sites as trees are very close to the road.

Absolutely gorgeous (pun intended)!!! What a beautiful hike up and down the gorge and falls! Definitely need to enter through the "Main" entrance with the "south" entrance being okay if you want to cut off a little bit of the hike without missing more than a couple falls. The "north" entrance is not recommended. We walked up the falls, and it was beautiful, but walking back, you would have to look back to see the falls, and it wouldn't be as beautiful/surprising! The walk is almost exactly 3 miles up and back and worth it! Bring waterproof shoes or shoes you don't mind getting wet! There are restrooms at each entrance, and they are fine enough for what you need! Lastly, it is $10 to enter and park. That stinks, but I understand why they charge it! The rangers are super friendly and helpful!!!

Amazing and beautiful park that should not be missed! We did the Gorge Trail, which ended up being about 2.7 mile loop - easy hiking with breath taking views. Some stairs up and down and they can be slippery. We did the entire hike on a rainy day, but that should not deter you! Just bring a rain jacket (or by a clear one at the Visitor Center for 2 bucks) - the hike canntruly be enjoyed in any weather.

Looking for a little adventure? This is a great place to take the family for some fresh air and beautiful waterfalls. Be sure to do a little stretching before hand, there are many steps, if you start from the bottom to work your way to the top. Each step is worth it! Around, almost, every turn youโ€™ll find another beautiful piece of Mother Natureโ€™s creations. Take your time and spend the day and walk around all of Watkins Glen, after your hike, you would have worked up an appetite. Enjoy, have fun, and make memories.
