The ferry ride itself is great. It saves a lot of time sitting in traffic when going to Long Island and the Sound is beautiful when the weather is agreeable. However, the queuing process needs work on both sides. In Bridgeport, it creates a massively long (slow-going) single file line that gives you anxiety that you will miss the ferry. The ferries are old and not designed for the larger vehicles today. If you drive anything larger than a compact car, you will have a lot of issues getting out of your vehicle once you are on the ferry. I've had to climb over seats and get out via a different door because the attendants place you too close to a wall or another vehicle. It's not their fault, the ferries just were not designed for larger SUVs or trucks. You are a a pretty big risk of door dings from other careless drivers opening their doors.

Extremely Rude staff, inconsistent rules for boarding when you have ALREADY purchased a ticket. Donā€™t bother buying a ticket ahead of time because depending on which miserable soul is at the helm of loading vehicles, they will determine when they cut off the line for riders who have a purchased ticket and begin boarding the standby line. I arrived at 1:31 (missed the 15 min window by 60 seconds) for the 1:45 ferry with a ticket in hand and was forced to wait in the standby line while those ahead of me who did not purchase a ticket ahead of time to board. Needless to say, I was too far back in standby and could not board while I watched those who hadnā€™t purchased a ticket, get to board. I waited for the 2:45 ferry on standby where ticketed vehicles loaded until 2:39 (apparently the rules changed). I asked the young boy why this was and he apologized because the ā€œsupervisorā€ working was very difficult and he told me I shouldā€™ve been able to board on time for the ferry I had a purchased ticket. Pretty bad when your staff complains about how rotten the supervisor is to paying customers. The he/she supervising that day was the rudest person Iā€™ve encountered in quite some time. Lesson learned: don't buy a ticket ahead of time and do what you can to avoid the trolls working at this port. Better yet, take a ferry with an actual standby lane instead of one giant line back to the highway.

The ferry was great. Nice snack bar. It's the only way to get to Long Island. It beats driving there and back.Took the car over and drove around the Island. Got back on the ferry car and all.

The ferry ride from Port Jefferson, Long Island to Bridgeport, Connecticut is well organised and saves driving time that can be tedious. The ferry is spacious with two decks for cars. There is an enclosed cabin for passengers with two open decks where you can sit and enjoy the sea breeze when the weather conditions are good.

Wow, really disappointed, the lack of humanity and basic human decency was appalling. I understand the ā€œpolicyā€ is must arrive 15 minutes early, but this past Friday we got there about 12 minutes early after rush hour traffic and the boat was late. So i figured we were ok. We pulled up to a very, very long line and eventually a thug with an attitude said ā€œnope sorry you lateā€ after we were already in the line for 5 minutes, I politely asked if he could talk to his supervisor as my wife is very pregnant, could not sit in the car for a long drive and we were just about on time for a boat that was late he said ā€œnah son you do it, and walked away.ā€ Well his supervisor was none more polite than he was, we had a reservation, were literally 3 minutes late and they were still loading the boat, and i explained my wife was very pregnant and we had a wedding to make on the other side. This woman with no empathy, human compassion, or decency whatsoever said ā€œwell then she shouldnā€™t be on the ferryā€ and then continued to ignore me asking politely to get us on as they were still loading and we had a reservation. She continued to get ruder with me, so I walked away. 1. This woman is not a doctor and its not her call if a pregnant woman should be on the ferry and 2. I was not being unreasonable, we were slightly late for a boat that was still loading and was asking politely. Literally what has our society come to where we canā€™t honor common sense and decency and come together to assist the pregnant moms, elderly, and disabled. Really sad that this happened, I was shocked quite honestly. I work in the maritime industry, I understand safety and protocol but I also understand human compassion and empathy, and we had the complete opposite of that.

One of the worst customer services ever experienced on site. Employees on site do not care about customers, tell them off and rather continue private conversations than helping people in need for advice or a ticket. Take the long drive instead - even traffic jams are less annoying than the experience here.

The only reason why I left a 5 star review was because Nathan and the guys at the gate were great. I went inside because I had to pay cash and the girl at the desk was rude, acting as if I was a bother to her because I had to purchase a ticket. I probably could have just stayed in line and never paid, no one would have ever noticed. I also purchased a stale pretzel that was disgusting. I hope this review helps you, purchase your ticket online so you donā€™t have to deal with rude people and do not buy any food from this company.

Great way to travel to long island. Only negative was nobody at snack bar when I walked through. Crew helpful and even helped with bringing my suitcase down during departure. Not sure what his name was but he lives in queens. Great guy with a killer smile. Highly recommend

Always a pleasant ride on the ferry. The crew is very professional and makes every effort to leave on time. And the french fries they sell are delicious!

We were heading to ferry on our way back to Long Island. To catch on a Sunday evening 630 Ferry. We have been using the ferry approximately 10 times a year for over 25 years. We were on our way with at least a one hour prior to take off arrival time. We know Route 8 well so no need for GPS. Unbeknownst to us Route 8 just stopped dead. We turned on GPS all of a sudden we were an hour and one half away. We were trapped. Our GPS said it was an accident but it ended up being construction. We ended getting to the ferry 30 minutes after our ferry left. We were put in the stand bye lane, about 15th in line we were. As the ferry was getting filled they scanned our ticket. We ended up not making the 8 o clock ferry. I was livid I told the attendant who was some kid and I told him that in a case of unforeseen circumstances we who had a reservation should be first in line for Standby. I was very upset as you can imagine instead of being home at 8pm I now had to look at a 12 pm arrival after driving all day from upstate New York. Two points. One there should be some kind of manager or leader that you can speak to. They should amend their policy of charging 25 dollars for cancellation less than three hours. I could have driven home but I did not want to pay the 25 dollars plus the bridges and tolls and have to get gas. Point two was they acted like most businesses today do. They were like you can drive around which incidentally would have gotten us home if no traffic about the same exact time as waiting for the later ferry. (I live in The Port Jefferson area). Their rates for using the ferry have gotten out of hand but I pay for the convenience of not having to go through the city. They always have a more than full ferry for a majority of their trips. They should allow for you to cancel your reservation at no charge so that you can then use that saved money to use to drive around. Itā€™s not fair that they do not allow for unforeseen circumstances. Also shame on Connecticut for not warning drivers that the road will be shut down with some kind of digital signal etc. Lastly, pay some people a good salary so that a customer can get some help instead of some kids who act like robots and canā€™t make a decision that benefits a customer especially a long time customer who needed some satisfaction.

I Love the Ferry from CT to LI - theyā€™re so accommodating. All the mid day tickets were sold out but they were able to get us on the standby line and it all worked out. The staff is kind & itā€™s a really great experience overall

On December 2 atĀ  6:30AM Coming out of Connecticut on the ferry my wife and I Was looking forward to havingĀ  some breakfast . WhenĀ  arriving to order the two breakfast the lady there was setting up to open and was a bit rude when I askedĀ  what time she opens? SheĀ  came out attackingĀ  me with words " that I'm not even ready I'm late just like you are When I'm done ill open up". I feltĀ  so violated with her response. I did not say anything but just wanted to know what time she opens up and she replied, " when I'm done". I decided to wait patiently till she said " ok I'm ready". She asked what would I like Just when I said I'll have two eggsĀ  she rudley abruptly Interrupted cut me off and started yelling " I'm not ready for this rightĀ now sorry". People where there listening to her and was shockedĀ  to hear what she said. I decided to leaveĀ  and not deal with it. I don't think this lady is cut out to be behind the counter let alone serving peopleĀ  especially if she's in a bad mood. This is not the first time. What happen to kindness and serving others the way you would want to be served.

Had to purchase a ticket at ticket booth and go on standby Bridgeport ferry. Port Jeff. Ferry no problems purchased ticket at booth did not have to get out of my car. Bridgeport ferry a different story. Went to booth as requested. Person ( male) working there ignored the fact that I was standing there. Went downhill from there. person offered no help at all terrible attitude. Does not know how to deal with people. Walking in parking lot a completly chaotic and unorganized mess near ticket booth. Lady ( staff yelling out while someone trying to sneak on line) I was not feeling safe at all in this element. Young girl organizing the line of cars getting onto the boat was excellent I will give her šŸŒŸšŸŒŸšŸŒŸšŸŒŸšŸŒŸ Crew on boat excellent as well. Staff at ticket booth. I would not even give one šŸŒŸšŸ‘Ž

It's a great service. Always buy your tickets online before your trip. Spots for your vehicle do fill up quickly, so buy your tickets ahead of time and print them out for better scanning. Arrive early to the ferry so you don't miss your reservation time. The ferry is very easy to get to. Once scanned in for your return trip, the employees who scan you in, they will tell you what number to pull your vehicle into, to board the ferry. There is a building on the premises that serves food, and there is a bathroom as well.

Terrible management which isnā€™t a surprise after you get a look of the people running the show here absolute mutantsā€¦regardless of booking a ticket they still let in stand by carsā€¦do not worry about buying a ticket in advance at a set time if you donā€™t arrive 30 mins before you have no guarantee of departureā€¦arrived 15 mins early and am now currently sitting waiting for the next hours ferry which I am at the front of the line forā€¦feel bad for the people who booked 330 on that sold out boat who will be bumped due to this logistical incompetenceā€¦if leaving from Bridgeport they do not have a separate standby by line and they will let riders without timed tickets take your spot

I ride the ferry often, they are always on time & organized. My only complaint is that people who sit in their cars aren't required to turn off their engine. It's terrible for the environment & I don't want to breathe in their exhausted as I walk through or sit in my car.

A very convenient and relaxing way to get to/from Long Island to Connecticut at a reasonable rate and always make good time. The boats may be old, but they are reliable.

Very clean and great job trying to keep people. Most people just stay in their cars but some do go out on the top

Great ferry service connecting Port Jefferson in Long Island (NY) with Bridgeport (CT) in about one hour. 2 car levels, one passengers deck and the top deck to enjoy the windy trip across the Long Island sound.
