I visited Melton museum for the first time today with my 18month old and was blown away! It’s so much more child friendly (in fact it’s very child orientated) than I expected. It has little activity stations, dress up rail, reading corners and my son absolutely loved it! The atmosphere was lovely and we didn’t feel as though we had to be silent walking round. I’ve already texted my friends recommending it and will definitely visit again!

It was OK layed out well and interesting to read the local history. Surprisingly how connected the local economy and trades were so dependant on hunting. The museum deals with this well.

Interesting little museum about Melton and it’s history. Lots of little details you wouldn’t hear about otherwise. Good wheelchair accessibility and very good disabled bathroom.

I enjoyed this museum with my youngest daughter who went here with me in December and to the Xmas tree festival as well as her mother and father combined There were fox hunting clothes in the tall glass cabinets leaves that you stand on on the floor and they dissapear and a coffin with a person in it glass which is how they used to bury people of a certain origin It’s worth a muse while in the town and the place is free to go into.as well

It looks very good for children and indeed had plenty of families doing activities. My low mark is because I’m interested in the artefacts from say Roman and Anglo Saxon times. There were plenty of these but there were lots grouped together labelled simply as say “here’s a load of Roman stuff” or “here’s a load of Anglo Saxon stuff” I’d have liked to have seen each item labelled with what it actually was, age and where found etc.

Relatively small museum, provides a good passing by experience for children. Despite the small size there are very interesting facts and knowledge. There is an old style telephone booth and petrol pump inside which were amusing to the kids. They also spent good 10 minutes playing with the floor projector setting off fireworks which I presume is usually something different but we went on the 4th November so must be a special fireworks theme.
