Beautiful and tranquil place in which to have a wander. Many interlocking pathways and a variety of garden areas to explore. My favourite is the Japanese Garden with its numerous waterfalls, sculptures, little stone bridges and clever planting...very atmospheric. The Poet's Garden is a walled garden then there's the Spanish Garden, large pond, lake and paths leading off into the surrounding countryside too. There are toilets and a tea room close to the main building.

Visited whilst the rhododendrons were in full bloom - beautiful. Loved the Japanese garden and waterfalls. The whole place is idyllic. Plenty of parking. On site cafe, which we didn't visit but we did enjoy an ice cream from the ice cream van. Would definitely recommend.

Great place to walk around for a few hours looking at all the gardens, lakes and buildings. Plus green space for a picnic if you fancied it. Very clean and tidy and clearly very well maintained. Dog friendly throughout the grounds and in the shop. Some areas stated on lead only. No dogs allowed in the house. Didn't use the cafe (assuming no dogs allowed) but did get a tasty hot chocolate & latte.

Haven't been here for years and cannot believe I have not been back sooner. Wonderful grounds, lakes and views. Numerous chill out and seating areas and a great cafe selling lovely drinks and food. Saw it on Sherwood and needed to see when e visited family.

Definitely recommend this place, it has nice house to look at in and out and great gardens to walk through, gardens would probably look amazing in summer. My favourite was Japanese garden. Cafe is nice too, has seating inside and outside.

Lovely place for a walk. There’s a nice little cafe on the grounds too and a park for the little ones. It is very expensive to tour the abbey, coming out at £12 per person! I would have liked to do that but with us being a family of four, there’s no way that just shy of £50 is anywhere near worth it.

A great place with so much to offer. Loads of parking, lovely walks and very interesting house if you want to pay the extra. If not, the gardens and park are worth the cost of parking alone. Dogs, kids, bikes and picnics all welcome.

I only visited the grounds. I walked in and there is a pleasant 25min walk from the gate to the abbey. There are various types of garden to look around. The cafe was nice too. I will be back to look around abbey.

Lovely place to go for a walk and explore. You can spend the day here with a picnic or take your bike and cycle around the gardens, following on to Papplewick Village is a nice route. The gardens are great for looking around and are very well kept. You do have to pay to get in if you are driving but its not too expensive, if you are using it as a day out. Shame there are additional costs to explore the house but that is to be expected. Plenty to explore without paying to go in the house. Cafe and toilets on site open to the public. Will definitely go again.

Went to the old fashioned fun fair with my daughter's. Staff on the gate were really friendly and directed me to the parking for the disabled was great as it was right next to the fairground. We all had a lovely time especially the girls although taking a family with small children would be quite expensive as the rides were £3 each.

Abbey ruins & historic house set in acres of grounds. There is easy access to the grounds and plenty of parking. A large pond, waterfall and different garden areas to visit. Also a gift shop & cafe on site. The Japanese garden was beautiful however the formal gardens were in need of some love & attention. All in all a good day out.

Great place for a day out for the whole family, which is also dog friendly out of the house. Wonderful peaceful gardens with lots of historic and interesting facts to learn. The food and drink is seasonal and local and there are short and long walks to be enjoyed.

Fab day out despite the weather, really interesting to learn the history of the House, and some eye opening things about various Lord Byron’s, the volunteers were all so enthusiastic and informative. Had a nice cuppa and cake in the reasonably priced cafe before venturing out into the gardens, which even in the pouring rain isn’t he midst of autumn, were beautiful. Will definitely go back when it’s summer!

I didn't go inside the property, just visited the gardens. But this is a day out in itself. What lovely gardens. There's a lake, Japanese garden, Rose garden, woodlands walks and creams teas in the Orangery in the summer months. Well worth a visit.

One time home of Lord Byron, now owned by Nottingham City Council. Many rooms open, with picture lined walls, Byron memorabilia to look at, fantastic gardens, and grounds to explore. Plenty of parking, picnic areas, cafe.

From the moment I arrived, I was captivated by the charm of this historic estate. The abbey itself, steeped in literary history as the former residence of Lord Byron, is a fascinating place to explore. Each room is a window into the past, and the knowledgeable guides provide intriguing insights into Lord Byron's life and work. What truly sets Newstead Abbey apart, though, is its natural beauty. The lush green gardens, framed by centuries-old trees, offer a serene escape from the hustle and bustle of modern life. Taking a leisurely stroll around the abbey's grounds, with the small lake glistening in the sunlight, is a perfect way to connect with nature and unwind. During my visit, I also enjoyed a delicious meal at the on-site cafe, which offered a variety of refreshments to recharge before continuing my exploration. Whether you're a history enthusiast, a nature lover, or simply in search of a tranquil day out, Newstead Abbey is an ideal destination. The blend of historical significance and natural splendor makes it a memorable and rejuvenating place to spend a day.

Haven't been here for years. Very glad we went back. Popped into the cafe for a quick nibble and a hot chocolate and then got a free trip round the house 😁. Very interesting, loads of little cool stuff to spot. Great walk round the gardens, even though it was quite hot and sticky. Definitely recommend. Very glad to have been back 😊

Lovely visit. You don't realise just how vast the grounds are! So many areas to explore that even at a weekend it doesn't feel busy. Lots of wildlife to see including the resident peacocks. Cafe is nice and reasonably priced. £6 per car to enter but you don't mind when the grounds are nicely maintained.

This is such a hidden gem. It is accessible by both car and bus, but if you choose the bus option you'll have to take a 25 min walk through the forest (it's a nice path though). There is a seperate fee for entering the house but it's totally worth it! All the guides are very helpful and passionate about what they're doing and the house itself is STUNNING full of neat little quirks that reveal some interesting stuff about Byron. They also have costumes which you can try on to feel like proper Victorians. The garden is also great! I especially reccomend the Japanese garden and the dog grave. (Oh and the cafe is okay but nothing special)

Very nice gardens to explore for a day out. Dog friendly (on lead) the only areas we couldn't take the dog were the cafe and inside the house. Good parking, be aware that the speed bumps on the mile long driveway are fairly severe. Very friendly and helpful staff encountered throughout.

Beautiful grounds. I really recommend going for a walk around the gardens on a sunny day. Many different styles of gardens to explore, including a walled rose garden. Dogs on lead allowed. £6 all day parking. Cafe is small, slow and expensive., So definitely pack a picnic. Didn't view the inside of the abbey either, £12 each for entry is really expensive compared to other places.

Amazing place to spend day out with family. Cost £6 per car, £2 for walk enter per person. This is absolutely worth visiting. All people inside are friendly and welcoming, you can have a look the shop, drink coffee, go around for nice walk with very beautiful views.

Absolutely worth a visit. Grounds lovely to walk around and take a picnic if the weather is good. We visited the house. I was so surprised how much there would be to see inside. Great painting and furniture in the rooms, with people to talk too along the way. We bumped into a volunteer , John who had plenty of knowledge and stories of Byron. He was such a lovely, sweet, informative man. Makes the visit so much more. Thank you John We will definitely come again in Summer with our picnic and feed the birds. Amazing to see the peacocks up and close too. Beautiful

The tranquil Japanese garden is embedded deep in the grounds. The house is interesting and has an amazing history attached to the Byron family. Owned and run by Nottingham Council after being bequeathed to the area. Returned late spring and plan again in early Autumn. A little gem.

My husband & I visit Newstead Abbey regularly & it is a beautiful, peaceful place. The grounds are lovely, the Japanese garden fabulous & the house is very interesting. Newstead Abbey was a priory foe Augustinian monks in the 12th century & when you walk round the cloisters you can imagine the monks walking round them praying. This weekend there was a 40's event which was brilliant. It is only £6 per car to enter the grounds & £12 to go round the House but if you buy a season ticket for £50 you can visit the lovely gardens & House as many times as you like. Love this place 💕
