Normally a great space but no current big exhibitions on other than 3 rooms dedicated to a consultation; kids were disappointed as they usually love the museum but loved/enjoyed the moth making workshops with Angie Hardwick and her space/exhibition. Also liked the Vintage computer games bit and the Elephant vases made with community.

Great place to spend half a day with the family. Fun fare, water area, playground, Roman remains and museum so plenty to see and do. The park is also really well maintained. Recommended on a sunny day!

A lovely free museum that deserves to be viewed if you are nearby, plenty to see and some good insights are given into local history. There is only to see going back to Roman times and before, right up to present day even covering the lockdown of 2020. Staff are extremely knowledgeable in my experience and couldn't be more helpful. On return visits I have enjoyed the park and museum every time I go

My family love visiting the museum and the park enclosed in the grounds, there's loads of interesting local history in the museum alongside giant oil painting of previous owners of the once upon a time estate, the park has lots of variety Including a sand pit with interactive play, a massive climbing g frame with huge slide, a zip wire, a smaller kiddy park for the under 8's and in the school holidays the rides are open, plus there's crazy golf, you can easily spend a full day in the park and museum, you can either bring a picnic or enjoy a snack in the museums cafe

I take my daughter here for the regularly changing exhibitions. There is always a range of displays for a wide age range, and I enjoy reading the history while she plays with toys or displays linked to the exhibition, and taking part in the activities together. The cafe is lovely both to eat in or take out, and the building itself is beautiful.

Great Park and not busy during weekday. Playing equipment and huge sand area a bonus. The mini rides for kids within Clifton Park are also great with friendly staff (you purchase a top up card which is scanned for each ride so no messing with change). Food place provides bog standard yummies and ice cream van there too who could ask for more 😊 We'll worth a good day out.

Lovely place to visit, loads to do to fill a day. The museum is very good, with lots of interesting local history elements. The little funfair can get a bit overcrowded, but is enjoyable. The summer splash pad is a fun way to keep the kids cool. And the various play areas are excellent.

Best museum in South Yorkshire, It's got everything from the stone age all the way up till the miners. All the staff are friendly and nice. Loads of activities for the kids and very educational for them. Plase is situated in Clifton park which is also brilliant. Which has a nice walk around and a very good park. Gift shop is nice and also as a coffee shop which isn't too expensive. I definitely go again. The kids loved it

Pity it was closed the day we visited. Fits with Rotherham's overall focus on local amenity rather than visitors. From cycleways randomly blocked by heras fencing or concrete Lego, to things to do in Rotherham QR codes that produce 'site undergoing maintenance' pages it's all a bit disappointing. The trams look cool but goodness only knows where they stop (the website didn't help) and apparently the museum is interesting (when it's not closed) but the park was nice and the town looks like it could be very good if it had any money.

It has got to be the most dire museum I have been to empty rooms no real topic apart from rooms with cardboard cutouts stood around. Definitely not something I'd pay for so luckily it was free. But surely rotherham has something better to offer

This vast, beautifully maintained park boasts a host of amenities including a splash park, an adventure playground, beautifully manicured gardens, sports facilities, and even a mini-golf course. The on-site museum is a gem, featuring engaging exhibits on local history that are both educational and interesting. The cafe serves up delicious food with a view overlooking the park. Great little local museum, friendly and helpful staff, well worth spending an hour or two to visit. Set inside probably the best park in South Yorkshire.

Lovely free museum. It was so nice to share memories of Rotherham past with my little boy, but also for him to learn and ask questions about the exhibits as we wandered around, good history and culture lesson and some interactive displays. Lovely staff and nice and clean facilities.

The sole has been taken out of this museum. What happened to the old kitchen display and many more displays gone. I took my little granddaughter after telling her how wonderful it was. I think she thought I was crazy, most disappointing

Was very impressed with the museum. It was a shame that some of the exhibits had been removed because of covid so no fault of the museum. A great variety of exhibits which made the visit even more interesting.

The museum is wonderful. However, one of the people that I had the unfortunate dealing with that works in the archive needs the sack. Typical incompetent council worker.

Lovely park with lots for children to do. Not busy on weekdays. Various Play equipment and large sand pit area available and free to access. Wonderful out door water fun area with toilets, changing area and Ice cream kiosk. The water park area is seasonal and only open in school holidays and weekends it's best to check opening times beforehand. Small fun fair and crazy golf course can be accessed at cost by purchasing a ride card which is quite reasonable ...works out about £1 to £1.50 per ride. Take a picnic, visit the museum, ride on the little train or walk to the band stand it's up to you there is plenty of choice. Pay and display Parking is available, free for blue badge holders.

Visited on 19th July so called freedom day. My first visit impressions. Arrived about 9:30am, the park was relatively quite. Parking meters not working all undergoing an upgrade. Caused a few issues for several of us. A well know parking app solved the problem. The museum is closed on Monday so didn't get to see what it has to offer. We used the small café round the back of the museum for a coffee mid morning which offers some limited seating outside. Parts of the park offer lengthy sections of shaded walking which was welcome on this very hot day. Lots of spots to set up and have a picnic. A big part of the attraction is the amusements park. By mid day it has become moderately busy with a second food spot near the amusements opening up selling candy floss etc. The water splash area wasn't open. The park also offers a walled garden focusing on growing crops and some flowers harking back to the past 200 year history of the location. For families and couples wanting a pleasant walk, Clifton park provides a couple of hours of enjoyment and more for families.

A nice museum with friendly staff. They have a number of temporary exhibitions upstairs. The 3 current ones are curated by members of staff who work at the museum who have brought in their own items and chosen items from the museum collection to fit their chosen personal theme. The building itself has some interesting features inside including the original floors which are made of stone that have fossils in and a floating staircase which was modified in the Victorian period with reinforcements. The famous Nelson lion is also there, thought to be one of the lions that may have provided inspiration for the stone lions in Trafalgar Square (he was a resident of London Zoo at the time the stone was carved hence being named Nelson). I was pleased to learn he had died of old age and was not killed to be taxidermied.

Never been and surprised by how much there is to do. Spent a full day exploring the museum and gardens. Great for families. We booked for the Christmas Carol story which was a nice little addition. It would benefit from an indoor space for picnics as we had to eat outside and it was a bit cold and damp. Also the carpark doesn't have a range of payment choices, either 2 hrs or all day which I found strange. Looking forward to a visit in the summer though.

Nice little museum, despite only being relatively small, it had plenty of interesting things to look at. It is set in lovely grounds too so ideal for a wander on a nice day.

I’ll start by saying I’d give 5 stars for the staff as our interaction with them was helpful, friendly, and polite. Sadly I would not call this a museum - it’s more of a lovely old building from the outside with a few artefact cases dotted around the house in some of the rooms. Whether it’s just to Covid, I’m not sure, but it felt empty. On a lovely sunny day it felt cold and forgotten. I knew it wasn’t a grand Manor House like you find in the country side - but it’s a large famous house steeped in history… so I was expecting rooms to be dressed for the period…I thought there would be lots of items from the people that used to live here…and lots about the local history. Worse was how hard it was to find information of what we were looking at. Often just a little bit of information on the display in genera rather than saying what stuff was or the relevance. One room was labelled the bedroom - it was almost completely bare with a large single paper doll house half coloured in… it looked depressing. The whole house has been stripped of character and it needs so much love giving to it. Even their famous lion that used to be displayed at the entrance has been demoted to a small pokey side room - the lion replaced by a modern poster of a horse (why?) The drawing room had a handful of pictures - this easily could have been an impressive gallery room …and again - have information near the paintings (not a plastic holder shoved in a corner that’s almost missed - although there was still nothing about the biggest painting in the room to be found) After you’ve gone through the house and made it down the servants staircase and through into the newer part - all of a sudden the museum remembers it’s a museum and you have a small section that shows a handful of artefacts from main time periods…and then you are done. I’m not sure how the museum is funding - I assume it’s locally and potentially from the council…but it needs dressing up, character and charm injected back into it…put life back into the house. I can imagine it’s great for school groups IF they have dress up and full on school activities - but how it is at the moment it has an identity crisis as it’s not really great for kids and feels empty for adults. It’s needs so much more about the history of the house, the park, the people who lived there (not a couple of artefacts and the odd painting … oh and then putting the family tree in the room used for weddings etc). It could be great. At the moment it’s far from it. Those in charge of the museum may need to go visit other museums around the country to get better ideas.

We went yesterday with our grandson. This is a place I have visited many, many times over the years. We engaged with two members of staff who were so helpful with the knowledge about different artefacts. I cannot believe someone would give a one star for being asked for a postcode. Obviously this is to establish how far people are travelling to visit. This park must be one of the best in the country. We will never tire of visiting. I went many times as a child with my parents. We spent hours there with our children and now we are enjoying it with our grandchildren. If I had one complaint it would be that the old tree should be taken care of. It is so overgrown which I’m sure could be rectified. The museum definitely gets a thumbs up.

An excellent museum with a wide range of exhibits showing the many aspects of Rotherham and surrounding districts. The museum also has an archive section with a vast database of entries. For a well earned break there is a fully equipped café and souvenir shop. Clean and tidy toilets are nearby. Well worth a visit!
