A
friend
from
out
of
town
and
I
had
afternoon
tea
recently
at
the
Crosby
Street
Hotel
as
our
holiday
treat.
The
sandwiches
were
ice
cold,
the
bread
stale
on
one
side
and
soggy
on
the
other.
It
was
clear
that
they
were
made
earlier
and
frozen/refrigerated.
When
my
friend
said
something
to
the
waiter,
the
food
director
came
over
to
the
table
and
confirmed
that
the
sandwiches
were
made
earlier
in
the
day
because
the
restaurant
gets
busy.
He
replaced
them
with
a
few
that
were
freshly
made
at
our
request.
Tea
sandwiches
should
be
light,
flavorful
complements
to
the
tea.
These
sandwiches
are
thick
and
more
like
lunch
sandwiches.
For
the
price
of
$65
per
person,
freshly
made
to
order
delicious
sandwiches
should
be
basic.
The
scones
were
warm
and
good.
The
pastries
were
indifferent.
The
service
was
poor
--
our
waiter
never
came
over
to
ask
if
we
needed
anything.
We
had
to
flag
him
down
for
more
hot
water,
for
example.
If
you
would
like
a
lovely,
delicious,
relaxing
afternoon
tea,
Crosby
Street
Hotel
is
definitely
NOT
the
place
to
go.
