The Tarrytown House Estate is NOT clean, NOT well-maintained, NOT customer service-oriented, and NOT worth its price. Our three night stay cost over $700 for the base rate. The most significant issues which led to our decision to check out early and request a refund for the second and third nights of our reservation, are described below. Pictures are also attached. In our room, we noticed that the air conditioning wasn't working properly and asked the front desk to look into it. Their solution was to dismantle the entire AC cabinet, with the cabinet door and other components on the floor, and the top of the cabinet propped up. The unit was exposed to the room and looked sloppy and dirty (see photos). We could see spider webs, dirt, and stains inside the cabinet and decided to raise the issue with management first thing in the morning because it was late at night when we discovered it. The next morning when we raised the issue, the manager told us that taking the cabinet apart and leaving it dismantled is standard protocol at this hotel. This "solution" was shocking, unprofessional, and unacceptable, especially for a room at this price point. In the morning, we also noticed a large, brown stain on the bedspread of the bed we had slept in (picture attached). We were disgusted and decided that we could no longer stay at the Tarrytown House for the remainder of the reservation. We requested a refund for the second night of our stay in addition to having the fee waived for the terminated third night of the reservation. We are awaiting resolution of our request for the second night refund. An extremely disappointing experience for a hotel that brands itself as offering "thoughtfully appointed guestrooms for a perfect stay." "Old world elegance on the Hudson" this is not.

Poorly managed property with disorganized staff. This could've been a great hotel with a change of staff an better management. We got a preview before our trip when we were trying to figure out if there were any restaurants on site that served breakfast. We were told no - twice, when we called the property, only to find out later that there is, in fact, a full service buffet daily. We checked-in early, only to be given a room where the door and the window would not lock. We called the front-desk (getting through there itself is a challenge and took us 20 mins each time after being put on hold), asked to be moved into another room. They respond "Oh Yes! I forgot that room doesn't lock". How does something like this slip your mind? Doesn't your check-in system allow you to block a room that requires maintenance? After waiting for half hour, we had to walk over to the front-desk, someone came back with us to transfer to another room but the window would not lock there. At the 3rd try, they tried to move us into a room with a king bed (we had requested for 2 doubles). After wasting 2 hours, we finally settled in the room. Service at breakfast left a lot to be desired. The waiter was rude. Coffee was not refilled. When we requested for a refill and waters for the table, he "forgot" to refill my husband's cup and "banged" the glasses of water that he filled on the table so that they spilled on the phone that was lying besides it. Not sure whether his problem was with us or with the job. TO Summarize: Pros: The location of the property is great. Cons: The hotel rooms need work - not for an upgrade but to make them basic and acceptable. Staff and Management need a change. Definitely not worth the price that they charge per night. Highly recommend an alternative location for potential guests until the hotel has worked out their kinks.

I went October 2023 for a weekend wedding. It was a nice area. The campus seemed pretty old and rustic. I booked my room as apart of a wedding block a year prior. I was a little disappointed when I arrived because when I booked the room it required payment in the full amount. They said my card didn’t go through but they kept the booking, which didn’t make sense. I thought it was already paid and had to do some digging on my own. I would have appreciated them reaching out and telling what was going on. Having to pay over $800 on the spot was very unexpected. I stayed in the king sunroom. There were many times the room smelled like the food from downstairs, which wasn’t too bad because it smelled good, but I rather have a more neutral smell. It was better than the musky smell my other friends rooms smelled like. I wish they had better ventilation. The roof deck area was legit. Loved having some of my friends over to enjoy the view, that was the best part. I wish they had some lighting out there for night time. The lighting they did had seemed to not work. The ac didn’t seem to work too well, as it was unexpectedly hot for October. The pool area was nice and they had stocked towels. They also had a nice sauna, but the ceiling was buckling a bit. The pool is near the sports area and it seemed like some of the equipment didn’t work in there. As many other posts say, this hotel has such great bones, but they really need to spend some time doing updates to their campus. I wouldn’t have stayed here if I wasn’t attending a wedding or event here.

Beautiful location. 26 acres with two historic mansions, updated resort areas with modern hotel accommodations. Our stay was very nice. Bell hop service to get our luggage to our door. Place is massive, it was a little confusing finding our room. The room itself was comfortable. Beds were nice. We had a great view of the Hudson, we could see NYC and the Mario Cuomo Bridge.

The service here was wonderful. Tim went above and beyond in welcoming us and In seeing that my sister and I, in separate rooms, were comfortable and in rooms that were not only well appointed, but also easily accessible to the pool and dining area. The estate is lovely and the staff in the Mansion at brunch (delicious) and front desk made everything even more memorable. At the pool we ran into Rita who gave us some background info on the history of the area. Pool area very nice with small bar. All in all we had a lovely three days and look forward to returning soon. Just wish there was a gift shop- we would have loved a book with history and photos. Well done!

I’m disappointed to share my recent experience at Tarrytown House Estate, a place my family and I used to visit every year. This time, things took a turn for the worse. The pool, a highly advertised amenity, was a nightmare. It was packed to the brim, with guests practically fighting for a spot, and the staff seemed indifferent to the chaos. Once we finally managed to secure seats, the management abruptly demanded everyone leave the pool for a last-minute event. No apologies, no explanation. The next morning, we requested a late checkout at 12, hoping to make up for the lost time. The response from the management was not only unapologetic but downright rude to my wife. Their lack of consideration has ensured that we’ll never return. If you’re considering a stay in the area, I wholeheartedly recommend other options like Castle Hotel. It’s time to move on from Tarrytown House Estate, and I encourage you all to do the same. The charm and hospitality that once made this hotel special have clearly vanished.

Wasn’t going to leave a review but the pair of baby socks that were found under our sheets put me over the edge. Chances these sheets were changed? Room looked like something from Brady Bunch era. Layout of buildings is awful. Had to walk through a labyrinth of buildings and stairs to get to room. Valet and bell hop overwhelmed so had to bring our own bags. It rained the whole weekend. No awnings over buildings and can’t open umbrella inside because double doors on buildings too narrow so you just get drenched. Restaurant hours limited. We did not like the food for the function we were attending.

Beware - terrible guests. This is a Wedding Factory Hotel, so the guests are loud, drunk and trashy. Someone even dropped off half a dozen seven-year-olds at the indoor pool and just left them! The rooms have seen better days. My bed was very squeaky and lumpy. I found a lollipop between my headboard and mattress when I was doing a bed bug check - no bed bugs, so that was good. I think housekeeping is understaffed and isn't given enough time to properly clean these highly abused wedding factory rooms. The location is nice and the grounds are pretty, but the building we were in (Rockland) has seen better days. There is a refrigerator in each room, which is very nice... but that's probably mandatory for a hotel full of drunk party guests. The sinks are outside the bathroom, which I do love. And we had a pretty view of nature outside our window... which had a cushioned window seat! There are two Pelotons in the nicely appointed gym. The indoor pool is open until 10pm, which is nice. The outdoor pool closes at 6 or 7, but has comfy chairs and an outdoor bar - so it really feels like vacation. The grounds and amenities are nice, but the loud drunk people in the hallways and the questionably clean rooms just don't make this worth the price. Next time I'll be at the Courtyard by Marriot in Tarrytown.

My son got married here 2 weeks ago! ! ! This place is beautiful inside and out. You can walk around the paved trails and hills and stop to smell the roses. Some people may need A GPS to get around and not get lost. LOL ! It's hard to believe that this place is so close to NYC, amazing!

This was my second time here and absolutely recommend it. This stunning estate is the perfect spot for hosting conferences, with spacious and comfortable rooms that are ideal for both working and relaxing. The conference room is equipped with top-of-the-line technology to ensure that all presentations run smoothly. The room is spacious and well-lit, creating an atmosphere that's both professional and inviting. Another highlight of this estate is the dining experience. Guests can enjoy delicious buffet-style meals that are sure to satisfy all taste buds. Additionally, there's a snack area available with coffee, tea, pastries, and fruit to keep attendees energized throughout the day.

Starting with the pros, the estate is beautiful with lots of great gathering spaces and support many fun activities on site with pool, tennis courts etc. Now the downsides. The management and service left a lot to be desired. We found them to be rude and unhelpful. We never got any room service and when we asked for late checkout, they said they would get back to me and never did. They also tried to charge us twice. The rooms were so so. My shower door would not stay shut. For some reason, they thought it a good idea to have bright cold lighting in the bedroom? I talked to other guests and they found similar quirks in each of their room. All in all, this is definitely not a 4-star hotel. There is so much potential and I hope they can improve.

I stayed at this hotel for a wedding and enjoyed it! You could tell that they'd recently updated the furniture and wallpaper in the rooms. I appreciated the blackout curtains and comfortable bed! The room itself was also very clean. The hotel is older, but the property has a fascinating history and is quite charming. The staff we encountered were incredibly kind and professional.

Beautiful place to stay. I gave it 4 stars because the room smelled funky. When I told the front desk they didn't blink an eye. Or do anything. I did have dryer sheets I put in the air conditioner vent. It helped a little. The ac didn't work the greatest either. The first time I stayed here the other room was much nicer. They probably haven't gotten to redo this room yet.

Our family had a wonderful time, the grounds were beautiful and the location was convenient for what we needed it for. We really enjoyed the breakfast and indoor pool. Our room was very clean, the bed and pillows were very comfortable. We would have loved to try goose feathers, it seemed very chic and trendy but we had our toddler. My only complaint is it’s such a beautiful property and I wish it was just better kept, the place needs some tlc and more fire pits as advertised. It was very chilly and they only had the one on at nighttime but it was too crowded to sit. Overall we would come back.

We recently had the pleasure of hosting our wedding room block at Tarrytown House Estate on the Hudson, and we couldn't be happier with the experience. While our venue wasn't Tarrytown House itself, the proximity made it the perfect choice for our guests, and it turned our wedding weekend into a memorable retreat. The accommodations, particularly the Presidential and Executive Suites, exceeded our expectations. The spacious and beautifully appointed rooms provided a luxurious haven for us and our guests. The attention to detail in the decor and amenities made our stay truly special. The staff at Tarrytown House deserves a special mention for their exceptional service. From the moment we checked in to the time we checked out, every member of the team went above and beyond to ensure our comfort and satisfaction. They were not only professional but also warm and accommodating, making us feel like VIPs throughout our stay. The picturesque setting of Tarrytown House Estate added a touch of magic to our wedding festivities. The lush surroundings and stunning views of the Hudson River created a serene atmosphere, providing a welcome escape from the hustle and bustle of wedding preparations. Thank you, Tarrytown House, for being a part of our special weekend and contributing to the wonderful memories we'll cherish forever. We look forward to returning for future celebrations and escapes!

Second and last stay. This place has become a motel for 400+ a night. Guy at front desk was vaping at the desk in the lobby. Ants in the room and other pictures below showing dirty floors and walls and chipped door. The bedsheet was crumpled under the comforter. I dont think they cleaned the room. The light in our room was useless and the TV was unplugged. You can hear all noise through the walls. Moving on to the atrocious service. They overbooked events and had no parking for hotel guests and nobody would help initially. Just shrugged their shoulders and told us to wait till the events were over (no idea when). Can you imagine a hotel charging 400+ a night basically telling you they have no idea where to put your car? When we brought it up to the front desk, he *completely* ignored what we said and didn't even look at us and just asked for my credit card. Only when my partner exclaimed they don't care he grudgingly agreed to have a valet move our car when spots become available. I never once heard the words "I'm sorry" from any one staff member. Not even once. Based on some other reviews this is commonly the front desk's attitude. This place is no longer worth the money and makes abundantly clear they don't care about hotel guests so my recommendation is to stay anywhere else.

Stayed as part of a visit to Lyndhurst and Sleepy Hollow. Gorgeous grounds, hotel rooms fairly standard. Inadequate towel supply for number of occupants. Very lovely hot breakfast buffet provided with room. Dinner/supper, while available at a lovely gourmet Chinese restaurant on the grounds, is not necessarily the best offering for weary travelers. The hotel would be well advised to have available some lighter, standard fare on grounds. Driving a couple of miles into the village is not always an easy option. Overall impression: overpriced hotel, not the most comfortable place for weary travelers. But beautiful on the outside, and very well located.

It's my second stay. I love service and attention. In addition to good rooms and a super quiet atmosphere ( We came on Wednesday) ,the fact that it has a private area available for guests to rest outside their rooms is very important. I have a nervous spoiled dog and not a very healthy mother ,so having the opportunity to sit on the soft couch outside our room when it got dark was very helpful .

Beautiful area in Tarrytown. A bit pricey but worth it. The shower stall was a bit narrow, not much water pressure but enough to get the job done. Parking can be a pain due to the locations of the parking areas but doable just the same. Not a fan of the TV being turned off automatically. The TVs do not have the ability to cast your phone to, but that to me is a minor drawback. All in all, nice scenery, for how old as the building may be, it is decently up to the current times. There are a couple places to plug in a USB device, electronic thermostat on the wall. Small fridge along with a safe. Unfortunately there wasn't a microwave.

Warning: DO NOT stay at this hotel. I would also not eat at the restaurant. We were checked in and when we got to our room there were 21 dead bees ALL over the room and about ten flies on window sills, bed, floor, on curtains. I immediately called the front desk and the guy that picked up, Francisco? Acted like he already knew about this issue and without hesitation said “we have no other rooms available and all we can do is have house keeping clean the rooms.” The staff obviously does not care about the reputation of this establishment. The building our room was in was the same building the Goosefeather restaurant. We did not eat there but I would HIGHLY not recommend as they are not concerned with the health and safety of there guests. I took a video and only when I said I would be sending this to the local health dept, then I was told there may be rooms but need to be prepped first. Needless to say we did not want to give our business to an establishment like this. Seeing other comments about the lack of customer service and care makes sense.

We have been here several times. Unfortunately, the pub in the basement of the castle was closed again. It is one of the reasons we returned. Also, my wife ordered a glass of house Chardonnay. The bill for that was $22.00. That is absurd. Last time, we ordered an egg salad sandwich from room service because all the restaurants and bars were closed by 10:30 pm. They charged $36.00. With a tip, it was $40.00, which is also ridiculous!

When booking the "King Balcony Room" it is important to note that "King" is the name of the room not the size of the bed. The double bed creaks loudly owing to what I discovered on my last day was a broken support. The room is very beautiful, but sparsely furnished. The view from the balcony is fantastic though. I was disappointed that the restaurant was closed for renovations, and the other two restaurants on site were closed for unknown reasons. This was especially frustrating because the workers would come in early to begin the renovations, making quite a bit of noise, and leaving the whole building smelling of paint. None of this was disclosed at the time of booking, otherwise I might have looked elsewhere.

I stayed at the Tarrytown House Estate hotel had a wonderful experience. This was a great last stop to a Legoland family trip!! The location is perfect to all the local attractions including Tarrytown, Washington Irving’s house, Sunnyside, and the Hudson River walk. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The room was modern, clean and spacious. The breakfast was fantastic with many options to choose from including my favorite protein green smoothie, made to order omelet and fresh pastries. My 7-year-old had a blast exploring the grounds from playing in the indoor pool to a life-sized game of lawn chess to learning all about the ghost stories! We also attended the Thursday night lawn party complete with DJ and ‘Goodfeather on the lawn’ drinks & desserts under the stars. Overall, it was a fun experience for the whole family at a beautiful historic property.

The rooms are very dated. There is a definite musty smell when you enter the building. No elevator ofc. You have to lug you suitcase up the stairs because the porter was a quite a wait. I think they were overwhelmed with a wedding. We waited over 20 minutes for the valet guy to come. He took my keys and never took my information when we went to go out to dinner the guy just handed me my key when I pointed them out. When we got back at 11:30 there from dinner there is no valet working. You park your car. Thankfully they did not charge me for the valet at all which would have been ridiculous . The beds appeared clean but the bathroom was definitely a bit dirty and very very small we had 3 women sharing so if just and idea. We were in a 2 double bed room . If you’re staying in the nice part of the hotel you may have a better experience who knows. Also gym is a maze to get to and terrain very hilly if you have older guests with you. No one from front desk was particularly helpful or friendly upon arrival just fyi. Best things are view and location .

I recently stayed at the Tarrytown House Estate and had a lovely experience. The grounds are beautiful, the food at Goosefeather is delicious and the hotel is easily accessible from the city. However, the primary reason I had such a great experience was because of the wonderful staff, specifically Rita, who went above and beyond to make our stay so memorable.

As most of the reviews state, attention to detail when it comes to cleanliness and keeping the rooms up to date is an issue. Carpets are frayed, tubs are dirty, random hairs. I love the grounds and so does my dog. The staff is usually pretty awesome. I was super irritated that the on demand tv movie were not actually available. They list all these features and none of them are available?! That’s just stupid. Why keep that on the tv? I love that you guys are pet friendly! For the price, I wish you would take better care of the rooms!!! Seriously look at how many people bring that up, too many to be ignored!

The hotel and it's surrounding grounds were truly beautiful. The people welcoming and accommodating from the time I stepped into the lobby till my leaving two days later. The gentleman at the front desk really helped me with reservations at a local restaurant that he was kind enough to recommend. My room was cool and clean and had a wonderful view of the great lawn, with deer! I needed extra towels and after my call to the front desk they arrived within ten minutes. I will be back in the fall for Blaze and I can't wait!

All of the staff have been so very helpful and kind - everyone worked to make sure our stay was great. The grounds are huge and beautiful. The room we stayed in was clearly recently updated and quite conformable. With quick access to the town nearby we'll be back.

The hotel is charming and the grounds are immaculate. The first person we met at reception was Keith who is AWESOME as is the entire staff. The pool was great (and I LOVE how you can get lost exploring the hotel but not TOO lost). I really like this place!

4 stars for the rooms due to there always being an issue with the shower head and the cleanliness of the linen (found strands of fine hair when I unfolded the towels). I've stayed here too many times over there years for this to keep being an issue. Beautiful grounds, plenty activities for families (indoor/outdoor pool, racquetball court, jumbo chess, basketball court, and tennis court) close to a restaurant strip to get food during hours when the restaurant is closed. Be ready to walk- the grounds are huge and plenty of stairs involved.

Downtown Abbey on the Hudson! The Tarrytown Estate Hotel, along with its team, is top flight. You step back into time and are cared for by highly professional and attentive staff, an amazing breakfast and brunch, an excellent housekeeping team who can make your room look brand new every day, and the wonderful grounds. Truly a retreat and respite from the hustle and bustle, there are river views from the Biddle Mansion, there is close proximity to town. The only caveat, no on-site lunch options or evening room service- dinner starts at 4 and is served from a separate property- The Goosefeather. So travel with snacks or prepare to head into town for lunch. It's a great place to go.

Tarrytown Estate has an older quaint feel. The rooms aren't modern but they are nice, clean and spacious. The staff was excellent as well as the food. Property is beautiful.

This is a lovely estate with many old buildings and new ones sort of stuck in between them. It feels very safe and the staff, the ones we saw, were nice and welcoming. There were quite a few challenges during our stay, especially as one of our party has limited mobility. Will not return because of those issues but active folks may find the establishment perfectly comfortable.

Loved this place! We only stayed one night came up to see some foliage and visit Sunnyside, the home of Washington Irving. Many people were there to go to Blaze, the Halloween experience. Parking and check-in were fine, it is a little bit of a walk to the rooms from the parking lot so if you have difficulty walking I would suggest making arrangements for accessible accommodations ahead of time the staff seem very helpful. We stayed in Winchester on the 3rd floor. The rooms are clean and spacious and I loved the Gilchrist and Soams bath amenities. Room seemed very quiet at night even though the hotel seemed pretty booked. There are 3 or 4 different parking lots -lots nearest to the rooms can fill up, we got lucky to find a spot nearest our room when we came back from dinner. We checked out the fitness center it is really large and overlooks the indoor pool. There were only 2 people in there the night we were there next time we will definitely bring bathing suits! We splurged on breakfast in the Biddle mansion- the staff is wonderful there and they make omelets and waffles to order. The view from our table was overlooking the outdoor patio and you can see a bit of the Hudson River. We are already planning our visit for next year!

My stay here was fantastic! The front desk was very welcoming and check-in was a breeze. All of the staff are very friendly and approachable. My room was clean and at the perfect temperature on arrival. The sheets where clean and I got plenty of clean towels. I would definitely recommend to stay here to anyone and look forward to my next stay.

My stay was very relaxing. I came to the property for a business trip. The property is absolutely beautiful. Front desk staff were friendly and knowledgeable. My room was simple but well thought out. There was nothing missing from a standard hotel room setup. It had lots of outlets for my electronics when working out of the room. Bathroom and sheets were very clean. Breakfast buffet had a great variety for anyone's appetite. Service was attentive and the had a great view of their lawns. Amenities were clean. Will be back when in town for business or leisure.

The grounds are beautiful. The rooms are spacious and clean. Comfortable beds. Perfect little pool to jump into on a hot day. You can get drinks by the pool as well which is nice. We had problems with our room keys a couple times and the staff could be a little more organized but nothing that wouldn’t stop me from going again.

  • 3/5 Michelle D. 1 year ago on Google
Gorgeous property. Room was nice but wasn’t cleaned properly before my arrival. There was old food and drinks in the refrigerator. The safe didn’t work. Wallpaper peeling off the walls and there was a used towel hanging on the shower rail. Regarding the Pool: The website and the signs at the pool say “adults only” (which was THE reason for booking there) but the pool was filled with kids and the occasional crying children. Would have been fine had I willingly known the pool was not advertised as adults only. Food is outrageously expensive. I ordered a pasta dish for dinner in my room. It came in a small round plastic takeout container. With all the service charges, taxes and tip it cost $52. There was nothing extraordinary about the dish. Pic of pasta below. The surroundings and property itself were beautiful, but I would not stay there again. Didn’t get what I paid for.

The only complaint I have about this hotel is that your room can be hard to find, due to the layout. However, during our last stay management more than made up for it. The general manager, Mark, was walking the hallways, getting eyes on how things were going that night. He saw that we were lost and offered to help. After finding our room for us, we discovered that our room key did not work. Mark was embarrassed and very apologetic. We assured him that we had stayed at the hotel of number of times and the key was always programmed properly and that we were just happy he was there with us, as he had it taken care of immediately . Mark offered to buy us a drink at the bar. We took him up on the offer and had a lovely time. The bar is in Goosefeather, a very hip and highly rated Chinese restaurant. Mark made us feel like we belong at that hotel. Excellent customer service comes from the top. The next morning we enjoyed the beautiful breakfast buffet, which is served in the oldest and most beautiful part of the property. Again, the service made us like important guests. The hotel is a gem, with staff that will go out of their way to make your stay comfortable.
