I cannot say enough positive about this place. Its always the small hidden gems in neighborhoods like Normal Heights where you can have new tastes and flavors that you weren't expecting. Its gourmet pizza and its local with an honest hardworking family. The reasonably priced slices or whole pies are worth every penny. Go as you are because this restaurant authentic and filled with positivity!

The pizza is great and the owner is the best! So lucky we have this Pizza place in our neighborhood. People come, order pizza and catch up with the new owner, the brother of the original owner. It's nice to feel part of a family business. Plus, they open until 11 PM!

Edit: I came back after 2 years (should have been earlier) and had another great experience. They are always super nice and welcoming! I tried a new flavor "Butternut Squash" pizza and that was delish! - The guy behind the counter was the nicest and the pizzas were delicious! I love how everything is pork free because I do not eat pork so I can basically try everything. Would definitely go back if I feel like having pizza.

Got out of a show nearby and saw that this place had a review saying they were food scientists who don't make pizza; they design it. Obviously we had to check it out. So glad we did because the pizza was incredible and the guy we assume owns the place was hilarious. Every flavor we tried (which they rotate often) was great. Place has been around for a while too. 6/5 stars.

The online menu had so many vegetarian options it got us hyped. If you are buying slices however you are limited to whatever pizza they have out at that moment. On a Friday evening they only had 2, with couple more coming out in 10 minutes. The pizza slices are priced reasonable. Their crust had the perfect thickness, and they were a bit flaky almost like a pastry. Vegan spinach pizza with potatoes was surprisingly good. It left a nice aftertaste in my mouth. They use aromatic sauces and spices, I think this is what sets them apart from a regular pizza joint. They have various draft beer, and bottled beverages such as brown sugar root beer. I would come back here just to taste something different. Street parking can be bit challenging depending on the time of the day.

Incredible and unique pizzas!! By far one of my favorite pizza joints I’ve tried. They have rotating pizza with everything from pain cheese to vegan walnut. This is ran by a family and they give you family hospitality. I recommend you stop in for a beer and a slice and talk with the nice guys behind the counter.

So I don’t expect much coming here after a night of karaoke and debauchery . I figured hey lemme get a slice at this random spot…..I walked in , the owner served me a couple slices. I asked for some Ranch …..he said “honestly my friend you won’t need any..” now that was a mysterious and intriguing promise . This man was not lying . This pizza was absolutely and undoubtedly the best pizza I’ve had on the west coast . Least you forget I’ve had pizza all over the world . Zia keep doing what you’re doing . Great food , great people great service 10/10

This place is one of my absolute favorites in SD. The owner is such food people and the pizza is some of the best I've had. They use pastry flour and some of the best ingredients on top I've had. They always have amazing new styles with new pestos and cheeses and veggies and meats. Always a treat coming here.

San Diego is known for good pizza, but this slice shop stands out from the rest. Though it's located in ultra-trendy Normal Heights, Zia isn't a new kid on the block. The restaurant has been a local staple for over 10 years, and it's almost as if its owner is known for his outgoing personality through the community. Inside Zia an airy vibe is accompanied by eccentric art and decorations that somehow make the place feel like home. Slices aren't as big as some New York style joints - but expect a fantastic variety of culinary masterpieces. Crust has a delicious buttery quality and is neither too crispy nor chewy. Expect anything with marscapone to melt in your mouth.

In a world of chain pizza options Zia's is a treasure. I am usually a deep dish, more cheese the better type gal. But the good crust, unique flavor options don't need to be smothered in cheese and fluff. I love yhis place

I always passed in front and admire the vibe inside, but I had never entered…until today, finally I tried one of the best vegan pizzas of my life, it totally escapes the sameness of traditional pizzas. If you are simple and boring this is not the place for you, but if you like me like to take risks and try new flavors this is the ideal place! Plus the super welcoming and patient service! They made my night! VEGAN AND TASTY 🥰

This has been one of my favorite pizza place in San Diego for years. Always friendly staff and pizza by the slice is nice, get to try multiple pizzas. Definitely recommend if you're in the area.

This is my fav pizza spot in SD. There is something magical about the crust. It's not heavy and the flavors are so good. Their combos for pizza toppings are unusual but work so well. You can get slices or a whole pie. They also have a slew of non alcoholic drinks and the a full tap list of beers. Great to eat in or to go.

This place was excellent! After spending all day at the zoo, my family wanted pizza! Zia's pizza was one of the later night options! We ordered take out and while waiting, Z offered us a free slice and made great conversation. 😊 I highly recommend Zia Gourmet Pizza! 🍕 The pesto is amazing!

Short sweet and simple I love this place. I drive from Temecula all the way down to San Diego for this pizza. And it is worth it. Can't wait for my next fix.

Two words " Pineapple" "Chipotle" . If you are a pineapple pizza lover you have to try it. The pepperoni marscapone is always very very good. (02/28/22) Just had them again, still one of the best pizza spots on San Diego.

Zia’s pizza is simply some of the best pizza you will have period. Fresh ingredients, excellent and unique choices of pies, superb service, the clear passion they have for making pizza, and good prices. All this culminates into an great place to eat. Bravo!!

My pick for best pizza in San Diego. Crust is excellent, nice crispy texture with a solid flavor that compliments the sauce/toppings. Sauces are always solid, wether it's a more classic red pizza sauce or something more creative like creamy chipotle. Toppings vary wildly by what slices are available, but I've yet to be disappointed by anything I've tried. The rotating menu keeps things fresh, while a solid beer selection provides a great pairing with whatever slices you choose. To wrap it up, staff here is always friendly and on top of it. Absolutely recommend you come here and try as many slices as you can!

The first time, visiting from Arizona. Best pizza I had (hands down). The flavor and the crust were cooked perfectly. The cheese had so much flavor and the owner was very kind and welcoming. When I return to SD I am stopping by here

One of the best pizzas i have ever tried! Each piece is an explosion of different flavors! Loved every slice we picked. Hassan the owner is amazing and welcoming. The combination of toppings on each pizza is very unique and never disappointing!
