The best zoo in the world in my opinion! Especially if you like tropical birds. They have a walk-in aviary with lots of beautiful, healthy pigeon/dove species and other birds from around the world. Some of them are very used to people and you can get great close-up photos of them. The other animals were cool to see too. You had your typical lions, tigers, and bears there plus some fun others like penguins and river hogs. Go there in the winter on a Wednesday and admission is dirt cheap!

I'm from Northern Kentucky and I frequent the Cincinnati Zoo and I have to compare this zoo to them. I was very impressed with the cleanliness of the zoo and the variety of animals in the zoo overall. While it does not have as many animals you still have a very good representation of the continental areas they are covering. The biggest plus with this zoo is the amount of open space between exhibits and the help offered by the staff. They are very pleasant to deal with and helpful. I would definitely visit again when back in town!

It is a neat display. With a lot more out there than we thought would be. All the exhibits are closed. But the giraffes were still out and the little one was running around. Took us about an hour to walk thru and look at everything. There are some really big displays that pictures don't show. Some of them are moving. Others blow smoke or bubbles. We had a great time and the weather was perfect.

Beautiful day for the zoo. Recommend going soon as they open, before the heat of the sun is the hottest. We clocked over 10,000 steps and still didn't see everything. Very clean and maintained with such pride.

An out of town visitor, I was able to visit the zoo again for the first time in about ten years. I was very impressed by the new exhibits, especially the Asian Big Cat Trek. The Gorilla Forest was always my favorite exhibit but now it’s even more so as all the trees have matured with the natural canopy offering shade. All of the employees I encountered were very friendly and helpful. I only was able to spend a few hours but easily could have visited all day. There’s a lot of walking but with an adventure this size, nothing wrong with that! I cannot wait until I can visit again, hopefully sooner than another ten years. Baby elephants in the future might make that hard to resist!

I came here as a child myself and now come with the grandkids. Needless to say, it has changed a lot, mostly for the better. The kids love the animals. You are still at the mercy of the weather, as with any outdoor activity. I recommend coming early so you can go when it starts to get too hot. It's good to see many of the enclosures are bigger than when I was a kid, giving the animals more room. There are a lot that could still use improvement, though. I especially feel bad for the bald eagle. His space is too small for him to really stretch out his wings and fly.

Fantastic experience at the Wild Lights event this Fall. The Incredible artwork displayed with the Alice in Wonderland theme was truly amazing. We have 2 young girls, 9 and 11, and they loved every minute of the event. Kudos to the staff there for keeping everything looking clean and serving hot chocolate on such a chilly evening.

One of the best in the country! Great place to spend a day with family and/or friends. Would definitely go when the weather is nice so all of the animals are out. If you really take everything in, will take a better part of the day. Always updating the facility and is very well managed. Greay to have this attraction in our hometown... something to be very proud of. Enjoy!

In the last few years they've done an excellent job in several areas, making the zoo even more awesome. The tropical building and the whole zoo is much more wheelchair accessible and generally more accessible overall throughout. The exhibits look great (though there's a lot of construction and maintenance right now. We love that there is wheelchair rentals and online tickets to make getting in easier. I love seeing all the happy elephants now!

We went on a cloudy, cool Saturday in February, and the zoo was totally empty. The animals were out and about, so we had a fantastic experience! The exhibits are well laid out and the zoo is very walkable, even for little legs. Can't wait to visit again when it's warm and try the train and the river boat.

The lights are amazing. It’s the perfect time to go. It’s not too cold or warm. I was impressed by the amount of lights they had out. We went on Sunday evening and it was not that busy. Great time with the family.

Above expectations. You can easily spend 7 hours there. Currently, South America and Australia was closed. Other than that must visit place. One of the largest zoo in the country. Lots of animals. $22 per adult and $4 for feeding giraffe or touching stingray.

I love this zoo. It's beautiful. But they do nickel and dime you for everything. The train ride is not worth $5. There's no "guide" talking about anything. All there is to see are a few generic signs and the back of the zoo. Once they figure out they need to put in some dioramas, and add guided points of interest that the engineer can relay over a speaker system or even a prerecorded guide, then it will be worth the $5. Until then, don't waste your money. But the rest of the zoo is AMAZING. Love it.

The zoo itself is a great place to go walk on the weekends or evening, but the light shows and different themes are spectacular experiences between Halloween and Christmas. This even will always trump the normal days at the zoo. Maybe justas majestic as seeing the animals in the sping when the garden blooms. It's a friendly event during the holidays, especially for special family visits. The tickets are affordable on any budget, and don't forget the proceeds are going to the care of the animals. The botany work and landscaping has been very impressive compared to other cities.

I'd give this more like 4.5 stars if I could. Really great zoo for sure but some areas are a little outdated. That being said this zoo has always been pretty top tier. I own a season pass because I usually end up going 5 or more times a year lol.

We had a great time!!! The Zoo is looking great with beautiful flowers and landscape. They Need more shaded areas for humans, possibly cool down misters even if you have to pay to get cool! We would enjoy a membership if we knew we would not be so hot. Wish more drinking fountains were working on site instead of purchasing beverages. The last three times we have visited... some of the animal exhibits were needing more care than they are currently receiving. I know they need volunteers and adoption money.

Went the display tonight for the last time! It was fantastic. The displays were awesome and exciting. It was worth the price of $17.00 person. Cons: 1. They needed more stations to sell hot chocolate and coffee. Less of the other items. 2. They need to think about putting up small heated tents throughout the zoo. 3. My group of 10 people as well as others were not prepared for how the weather changed so fast. While at the zoo. That is so important to have for people who are coming in this kind of weather. Plus the zoo could of made more money from drink sales as well.

We love this zoo! It's so clean and easy tto navigate. The indoor exhibits are amazing! They are filled with with such a variety of plant and animal species. I was suprised to see free-flying bats! The amphibian and reptile building was my favorite. It's not often you see caecilians on display, much less two species. I also liked the style of the art on the information signs and emphasis on fighting misconceptions. All of the animals appeared to be healthy and well cared for.

I take my grandsons here a lot. You should definitely get the membership. It's nice to just drop in for a few hours and not feel like you have to stay all day. The zoo just keeps getting better. The train, stingrays, and giraffe feedings are a nice addition, but not something we will do every time. I wish it was free to pet the stingrays and that you only had to pay to feed them. The staff are friendly and seem to care about the animals and the humans. The special events are always fun, too.

We went for the Christmas night light event. It was magical and so much fun. It sent you on a walk through the park as you followed the story of Alice in wonderland. The lights the displays were great bring your family for a fun night and it’s reasonably priced.

Sedgwick County Zoo is awesome! The exhibits of the Zoo are very well done! They transform you into the animal's habitat. The buildings are done up that way also . Just to give you that sense of being in the middle of the jungle atmosphere! Loved it all! Thank you!

With this pandemic you would think they'd have more flexibility on their ticket purchases. They force you to buy tickets online due to "limited quantities" and when life happens and you can't make it even though you purchased a week in advance they will not work with you!!

The biestro is so diffrent. Its not home like at all. It modern and technological based. I tried ordering and they didnt have nachos or pretzels. I've been going 20 years plus and me and my family get them every time summer or winter. Just not the same.

FALL IN LOVE AT THE SEDGWICK COUNTY ZOO!!! We went here on a cold day when they had some of the exhibits closed for winter and there was some construction going on but it was still romantic and a very enjoyable experience. The First thing we saw was the awesome gift store with so many pieces of jewelry and items to choose from. For two adults to enter the zoo was about 40 dollars and the concession stand is expensive so I recommend you bring your own bottled water and beverages if allowed. This place actually sells alcohol which I found a little strange but who wouldn't wanna be lit when they see some giant tortoises or penguins. My girl was searching for the machine that cost 51 cents to make your penny turn into a Sedgwick County Zoo piece of memorabilia. We had the 50 cents but no penny but was able to get some at the concession stand. The exhibits were nice and our favorite was the elephants and the lions one as well as them big tortoises cause your litterly able to stand just a few feet from them. The Sedgwick county Zoo is definately a good place to walk around in and would make an awesome date. We didnt get to see any kangaroos because their exhibit was closed due to winter I believe or because it was after 4pm when we finally made it to that section of the zoo. My girls favorite animals were the elephant who seemed to take a liking to her and this animal she calls cat dog which was a rear zebra striped looking kind of horse hybrid animal. Were definately going back in the spring after we get vaccinated. People there were following social distancing rules and had on mask for the most part.

The Sedgwick County Zoo is a fantastic place to visit. The zoo has exhibits of animals from all over the world. The zoo was well laid-out and there are animal exhibits every couple of feet. This is a great place to visit solo or with friends and family. This is a great way to spend day and the staff are very friendly. I highly recommend the Sedgwick County Zoo.

Beautiful zoo. Unfortunately both the Asian and the Australian pavilions were closed during our visit but we really enjoyed the zoo regardless. Great collection of animals, beautiful walking paths and a fun little petting zoo. Worth the visit!

I have always loved this Zoo. So much has changed since I was a child but all of it for the better. The elephant enclosure is magnificent and has improved so much. No more sad looking elephants swaying back and forth. Instead they have acres to roam and be elephants. The gorilla exhibit is a fun new addition. I think they're as entertained by the humans as we are by them. Hands down my favorite zoo.

Great Zoo. Plenty of variety of animals from your typical farm animals like goats, horse, pigs and cows to your exotic animals like Tiger and Red Panda. Plenty to see. I notice walking around there was construction going on. That's a good sign that they're adding more attractions and improving the zoo. Overall, clean and well maintained facility.

It was a beautiful fall evening! Wild Lights at the Zoo was an awesome event! There seemed to be something new around every corner! I'd say it's a good fund raiser for the zoo! We were in no hurry, but it took over an hour to stroll through and see all the lights! A lot of people of all ages seemed to enjoy the displays. Kids' reactions were especially fun to watch! We can't wait for the lights at Botanica!

The Wild Lights display was pretty impressive. No animals out at night though. You do walk the main path of the zoo through many themed lighted displays. The restaurant and snack locations are open, they even have hot chocolate for the cold fall evening. There were many people there tonight, but the crowd flowed pretty smoothly. A little pricey, but worth checking out at least once.

I've gone to this zoo off and on since the 90s. I am consistently impressed with the improvements to the zoo buildings and enclosures. The zoo keepers seem to know their stuff and also be very invested in the animals' well-being. The big cats in the new Asian Big Cat exhibit seemed relaxed and at ease, and exhibit itself was great! It seemed like it was both enriching for the animals and fun for guests. A few years back, maybe 6 months after the new elephant exhibit opened, my partner's family from San Diego visited, and we all went to the zoo. His family members were extremely impressed with Sedgwick County Zoo! They were amazed at how nice the facilities and exhibits were for the cost, and the size and variety. They of course live near one and visit one of the most well known zoos in the US, so if they have a big name to compare SCZ to. Since then there have only been more improvements and expansions! If I still lived in Wichita, I would still be a zoo member. If you visit the orangutans, say hi to Daisy and show her what's in your bag or try to sketch her. She loves watching people draw and seeing what you've got in your bag!

Love this zoo, but it's smaller than most and lacks some things. They are working hard on improving it which is nice! The sting ray cover and the train (coming soon) are great additions! We love the boat ride. It's fun and something different than just walking around. I'm also happy they made a larger enclosure for the leopards! They really needed it!

Excellent zoo experience! Sedgwick County does a great job at maintaining the facilities which in turn help ensure that guests have a both memorable and enjoyable experience. The exhibits are easy to navigate, the feedings are spaced out well enough so guests don't feel rushed, and there are JUST enough shaded areas to pause in before venturing on to the next area on hot days. Personally, my favorite thing about the zoo is that they have reserved spots for EVs (electric vehicles). The spots are shaded by solar panels, and the feels are astronomically low, allowing you to charge a few dozen kilowatts during your stay. I believe I charged about 20kW during my visit and only ended up paying $2.86.

I used to come here ALL THE TIME when I was a kid, but haven't been in many years. I completely forgot how much fun this zoo is! They have so many animals and so many vantage points to view them from! The bridge going over the buffalo is incredible! All the animals seem well taken care of and happy, which is more than one can say about other zoos in the area. We can't wait to come back and see everything again, especially when the jungle exhibit is open again!

I really love this zoo, honestly, besides the small areas that are temporarily closed for remodeling, i just enjoy the zoo as a whole. I personally enjoy zoos, and take inspiration from their designs for modeling of my own, and this zoo has some very beautiful areas!

They did a great job of ensuring safety of every visitor by limiting the amount of people allowed in the zoo at a time. You must reserve tickets via their website for what time you want to go to the zoo whether you are a member or not due to COVID however if you have issues like I did with reserving member tickets they are really happy to help get you set up at the booth. You must have face masks to enter but they ask that you wear them only when you're around other people and in the enclosed exhibits.

The zoo was amazing, so many different animals.. We went to one of the Concession stands to order something to eat. The lady that was working it was VERY rude with us. So we just walked away other then that I truely enjoyed my time at the zoo. We drove 2 hours to go to this zoo and I believe we will be going back.

Over all, our experience today was a little disappointing. I have a four year old who enjoys seeing a wide variety of animals, but for one reason or another, her favorite animals were not viewable this afternoon. My favorite building is the rainforest, and we were turned away at 4:03 PM due to the building closing at 4:00 PM. I am awarding four stars due to friendly and knowledge staff, plus the animals we did see seemed happy and healthy.

We were over all very impressed and enjoyed our visit to the zoo. Since it was the winner season when we were there, some of the animals weren't out and around, and the vegetation wasn't as beautiful as it usually is, but that's to be expected, and the fact that some of the restaurants or different areas weren't open because of covid-19, we didn't hold that against the zoo even though it was a disappointment. Some parts of the zoo did not seem as well taken care of as they should be trash and dirt, some interior areas not tap as clean as possible), and the new entrance with the Construction kind of takes away from the experience. But we would go back and had a really good time, especially for the cost.

This zoo was a disappointment. We went on 11/11/2020. The zoo closed at 5 yet some exhibits were closed by 4:30. The orangutan one is closed because they say transmission from humans to primates is real...last time I checked we don’t get to touch the monkeys? Hand sanitizer stations aren’t filled. No where can you refill your water bottles. The vending machines aren’t filled either. It was literally like an abandoned zoo. The bear was out but looked miserable. The leopard and other wildcats weren’t doing anything. The zoo people weren’t friendly at all. We only come to the zoo about once a year for this very reason btw. It’s never a positive experience.

Great way to spend the day. Most of the animals are out and you're able to view them in their domain. Currently you only have to wear masks in the indoor exhibits

The Sedgwick County Zoo is a wonderful zoo. My family and I spent four hours there and easily could have stayed longer. Great place for kids and everyone there is very friendly and helpful. I will go back.

We get season tickets here every year. It's a great place to spend a couple of hours with your kids. The paths are nice, a decent amount of shade through the park, restrooms are clean and the food is decent. Kids love watching the gorrillas run through the exhibit. You can feed the giraffes for a few bucks and they have a nice playground for when your ready to take break and get a snack. I would recommend this to any family visiting the Wichita area.

Over priced. Seemed like half the animals were off exibit. Wasn't worth my 3 hour drive.

Ok google it wasnt yesterday it was today. And the zoo was awful. The gorilla pens werent clean. No exhibits were even available. Only good places was the penguin exhibit and the rain forest. No shops were open no water fountains. No transport. The lion pen was empty. The tiger pen only had 1 tiger. The gorilla pen was empty. The rhino exhibit was empty. The hippo pen was empty. The elk exhibit was baren. No deer. No moose. No elephants or giraffes. Basically almost baren. Felt so bad i gave them charity money.

The pay booth was open ! 95% of the animals were put away. $40 dollars for a nice little walk. Two stars for the exercise.

Great zoo! Easily 3-4 hrs of fun for kids with plenty to see. We were pleasantly surprised and can't wait for the 'Asia' exhibit to be done in the summer of 2021!

Went to the new Wild Lights Event, it was very beautiful. However I really wish there would have been an adults only date. The amount a kids that ran into me and my husband was crazy. I watch one little girl get ran over from a stroller because no one was watching. The event could have been way better.

Easily one of the best zoo's I've ever visited. The layout allows very little time where you are not encountering an exhibit. The variety is great and the improvements have been major. I hadn't visited in several years, but recently got a job at the gift shop and feel grateful I work somewhere that is continually improving. If it's been a while since you've visited or are out of town this should be a legal requirement. Me and my wife just visited the kc zoo and the layout was so confusing and had huge spaces without any animals at all. The more time I spend there, the more I realize this is the greatest attractions for our great city. Also, who doesn't love baby meerkats! I hope that when you visit you have the same revelation I've had.

The Wild Lights display at the zoo is very well done and was a big hit for our family outing. The gates close at 9 pm but the zoo stays open for guests that are in until 10 pm. This is one of the best light / art exhibits ever in Wichita!

The Sedgwick County Zoo is a great place to spend the afternoon with family and friends. It has many exhibits that will capture the attention of both children and adults. Lions, elephants, giraffes. Our favorite are the cute little prairie dogs. They also have a children's area with petting zoo. Honestly my only complaint was that there were a large number of bees in several areas and I was worried either my daughter or myself would be stung.

This was a special event visit for a night in the Zoo for Halloween. The Zoo did an amazing job with the layout and details of the decor. There were no real animals but the uniquely designed artifact like animals and display was simply amazing. It a great event that brought families together and it was packed with fun. It was a great family night out and the artist that put together the display are really talented.

Great place for the whole family!! The park is well maintained, clean & staff are friendly & helpful. Love that there are indoor & outdoor exhibits, and most exhibits have several places for viewing each animal so youre likely to see them in one place or another. They have several places to eat throughout the zoo with a large variety of foods to choose from and i was pleasantly surprised to see that the prices are very reasonable! The giraffe feeding is a HUGE favorite for the kids ive taken & Weve just had a great time every single time!

The Wild Lights is amazing. Your family/kids will love it. Moderately priced and a great evening that's not too "people"y.

The zoo lights event was really unique. We enjoyed walking around and looking at the lights. the route was smaller than the zoo, but still a cool experience.

  • 5/5 Jacob G. 2 years ago on Google
Love this zoo. The animals are really close to the viewing spots. They are always making improvements to the animal habitats to make them more like the animals wild habitat. They have a new entrance complex that makes entering a lot faster than before.

A very educational place focused around conservation and getting kids interested in nature. If you read the signs, it will easily take all day to work through the zoo. You can feed the giraffes and manta rays, but they are first come first serve

Went with my friend and our kids, we were able to get in free using the Summer Sunflower app. All our kids were super excited to see all the animals and ran to each exhibit. The zoo wasn't really crowded which was a great bonus, granted we did go on a holiday. Receiving 4 stars because there seemed to be a lot of construction or exhibits down-- signs said construction should be complete by summer of 2022, though!

Simply Beautiful. The exhibits are made to be like their natural habitats. Zoo Keepers are on hand to answer questions, give demonstrations. I have been here at least 30 times and it never gets old! Best Zoo in the Midwest!

We went to see the Wild Lights for the second year with our daughter and we all had a wonderful time. We went on a Thursday night early October so it wasn't really busy at all which was nice. Really glad they do this annually now. Definitely recommend for the kids and children under 2 get in free.

My family and I always love going to the zoo. The new train that was put in was nice and we could see the animals that are typically hard to see when you are just walking through the zoo as well as the back operations of how the zoo is operated. 1 ticket for the train is good for 1 whole trip around the zoo and only 4 dollars for zoo members(5 if you aren't). The sting ray exhibit is also really cool but you have to pay to go in to see them (4 for members/ 5 for non members). I highly recommend doing it at least once and paying the extra bit to feed them(i think it was 2 dollars for 1 piece of fish but i could be wrong)! It's so cool! Unless you don't like the feeling of raw fish lol. The wild encounters are also a must because you get close to the animals in the zoo! All in all one of wichitas best attractions that you should visit.

The zoo looks completely different from the last time I visited a few years ago. Plan on going first thing in the morning so you have all day to see all the animals. Wish they had a place to sit down in the giftshop so we could sit while we waited for members in our party to finish their shopping.

This zoo is huge!!! I’m from the KC area and didn’t expect it but I found it out it’s even bigger than KC zoo. My favorite animal is the giraffe so I was so excited to be able to feed them with my son! Also their souvenir cups are lifetime for discounted refills. Seems that other places you have to purchase a new one each year.

Out of town visitor for a day trip to Wichita. Heard this zoo had one of the largest elephant enclosures and we weren't disappointed. Really enjoyed seeing all the elephants and the large open space they had. The rest of the zoo was amazing. Enjoyed the boat ride through the park. The train which showed us some of the behind the scenes was awesome. Our daughter wants to be a vet when she grows up so seeing those areas was a huge plus to our visit. The staff was super friendly and informative. Recommend getting there as soon as it opens. We stayed for 3 and half hours and there was several areas we didn't get to see. Highly recommend this zoo if you are in the area.

This is an awesome zoo. I have been able to visit this zoo several times in the past 25 years despite the fact I didn't live here. We recently moved here and I look forward to coming more often. The only complaint I have is the fact I am disabled and paid more for the scooter I needed to get around than my ticket to get in. I couldn't believe it! Why are those who are handicapped being punished to see the zoo. Because of this fact, I won't be able to come often. I can understand a fee, but charging more than an entrance ticket, really? I just don't understand. I even asked if I was a member was the scooter complimentary and was told no. I am very sadden by this.

Although I live here with my mother and sisters, I must race about how amazing it is here. As I buzz around, collecting pollen and nectar from the local fauna, I see the smiles and joy emitted from the humans that roam from exhibit to exhibit. I love this place not only because I call it home, but the humans are friendly, and rarely swat at me or show fear. Well...sometimes the kids do, but if their parents take 30 seconds to educate themselves on bees versus wasps, and share how harmless my sisters and I are, the kids quickly let their fear fade away. Anyway, this is such an amazing place, and well kept! Staff are friendly and knowledgeable. -Bee approved!
