The owner was very knowledgeable and helped me out a lot. All the staff were nice and helpful. They didn't rush us and answered all our questions. Very cool place.

Got some beautiful parrots & an Oscar from them just the other day (that are all 3 doing fantastic still) & we showed up about 15 minutes before they closed & they didn't rush us or make us feel unwanted in fact it probably was 10 or 15 after they closed by the time we got out of there so we're very appreciative of being treated so well as we drove 2hrs to go get fish at exotic pets on Kellogg just to discover that they don't sell fish on Wednesday which is the most absurd & idiotic $hit I've ever heard so we were thrilled to find tails & scales before our 2hr drive was all for not... thankfully they didn't have a no fish for sale day or if they do it thankfully wasn't Wednesday like exotic pets is! So thanks tails & scales!

A lot of show and flash, but there were some husbandry issues Super cool animals that are pretty well taken care and appear great quality

Zack was so helpful he answered all my questions about iguanas I ended up buying my second one there! They have a beautiful albino iguana in the shop who is just so sweet. At one point I thought he was going to try to up sale me on a heat light but instead he told me the cheaper one was the better of the two

Store was pretty clean and was approached by nice staff quickly asking if I needed assistance. Encountered a few sights I wasn't thrilled with but that's pretty typically of all pet shops. Weekend staff didn't know when the last time my purchase was fed but it ate right after getting home so it all worked out. Overall was a decent experience and my kiddos enjoyed looking at all the creatures :)

Too expensive. Some employees are rude at times. They always want you to buy more than what's for the pet. So going to buy a bearded dragon there is 130 bucks excluding the accessories. I rather go to exotic pets they only charge 50 and their animals are well taken care of

The classic Derby destination for alternative pets and supplies, off of Southwest Boulevard. I’ve brought home many reptiles from here and make the trip from Wichita for feeders whenever possible. The staff seems to be rejuvenated and has been friendly and helpful in my most recent visits, and I do find the knowledge of these shop employees here superior to most of what I get in Wichita. The selection of baby snakes is the best anyone will find in the area without going to a reptile show, and the pricing for animals and supplies is extremely competitive. This is a down to earth pet shop that I can confidently recommend to everyone.

They had the size of frozen mice I was needing for my snake. However I felt bad for how some of those snakes are being housed. Hopefully they get adopted fast or put in a nice warm tank

Very clean and helpful staff and the prices are affordable. They have a wide variety of baby pythons to choose from and other snakes and reptiles plus all the items need to care for them including food. They also have a good array of other reptiles, small pets and fish

Zach is amazing. We've always been well taken care of here with our turtles, toads, fish, and tarantulas. He's always been knowledgeable, friendly, and you can tell he cares about the animals (and their people). I'm impressed that he'll remember a pet my family got there at least 13 years ago.

Tails and Scales has a lot of reptile supplies and many different snakes and critters every time I go in. I get feeders for the snake we bought from them. The snake is pretty friendly and they're always great about getting feeders in any size you can think of. Lots of cool pets like tarantulas, scorpions, lizards, snakes, geckos, etc. Would recommend!

Employees are very knowledgeable and helpful! The prices are also very fair. I highly suggest using this shop as opposed to a chain store, they are cheaper and will actually help you and answer your questions about care for your animal.

Owner can be a jerk when talking to kids.... I have known him for years, but his attitude when speaking to a child or young adult that is just excited about a new pet and might say the wrong thing is uncalled for. Really made my grand daughter never want to go back.

Tales and Scales is the place I go to for when I need to ask questions. You get quality assistance from their very knowledgeable staff. As an added plus, they will have unique animals to look at such as sugar gliders, chinchillas, 14ft long Boa's, etc. This time, though, they had an old tortoise walking around, and that's the pleasant type of environment you will enjoy here.

Always love coming into this store. The owners are more often than not, on hand to answer any questions and help with anything they can! Very down to earth guys and they try to have knowledgeable staff on. I really enjoy these kids who are dedicated to learning all they can while working with Tails, they always make me smile!

Awesome people, very knowledgeable! Critters are healthy and well taken care of. This is the only place I know of to get live food for reptiles anywhere near Newton/Derby/Andover/Cheney areas

I've never had a bad experience with Tails & Scales. Came here years ago when I had a gecko and returned last week to ask about ball pythons. I was just looking to get info and stuff for my tank but they had the sweetest baby in there and the guy working answered all my questions and got my set up to take her home with me. She made a perfect addition to our family for my birthday!

My first time coming here, and I can't say I'm impressed. The conditions they keep their animals in are depressing. They have a Uromastyx there that is nothing but skin and bones, and they cohab their Bearded Dragons with other Beardies AND Tortoises!! You aren't supposed to cohab Beardies, especially not with different species for christs sake!!! I saw one Beardie that didn't look very healthy, and one seemed to be without a heat lamp when I visited. The substrate in some of these tanks are awful too! Wood chippings? Seriously? I also saw a Leopard Gecko in a tank on the floor with no lights. I don't know if they were maybe relocating that one or what, but the other things? Come on, man. Y'all need to do better, because this is just sad. BTW, I would not listen to the people leaving good reviews talking about how great this place is and how well cared for their animals are. Most people don't know anything about reptiles, amphibians, etc and cannot spot negligence when it comes to these critters, so they think this place is good, but it really isn't.
