Staff are very friendly, and the displays and vehicles there are incredible, and the staff member I talked to knows a good bit about what is in the museum, took some photos and I found out that the 2 30cals in the m3 Grant's hull are actually reasonably rare and were usually taken off. Would recommend to go there if you're into WW2

Great Australian military history & items from pre-WW1 to modern war. The volunteer will guide you for free. Open from 10.30 AM. 2-3 hours spending time. The souvenir shop provide unique military memorabilia. If you like all about military this place is HIGHLY recommend.

Absolutely fabulous museum. This place needs more marketing as it's great and I only stumbled over it by accident. All exhibits done to a high standard and my guide was knowledgeable and a really great guy. 1.5hr personal tour for me and my 8yo & 5yo boys. Probably better for kids 8 & over but our guide kept it interesting for both me & my kids.

One word for this place, WOW! I was totally blown away by the exhibits and the amount of actual pieces on display. There really is so much more to see than you think there would be. As far as interaction goes, it isn't top notch technology interaction BUT between the staff and the exhibits with sound and models, you are totally immersed in the war zone of that era. Easy to access for all with an elevator if the stairs are too steep OT for disabled access and prams. Children who are interested in this sort of thing, like my 7yr old, will be happy for at least 2hrs, whilst adults could spend the day there easily. However, if on a time limit, it is possible to see the entire place in a few hours. Thanks to all the staff, and everyone who has helped showcase our past in such a beautiful way. Helps us all show our respects through education.

Huge amount of information on display, nice set of Victoria Cross on display as well. Actual volunteers who have great knowledge to show you around and answer any questions. Highly recommended to visit, spent many hours here, will definitely return for a second look next time I'm in WA.

We attended "A Night at the Museum". It was very informative and so much fun. Former servicemen and women are nice by telling stories about each section. Good place for people of all ages.

An amazing museum to visit whilst in Fremantle. As a War enthusiast, this was a great day out with the family. Each War has its own section, each filled with interesting artifacts, information and really well displayed. You must get there before 1pm as the this is the last chance to get in for the 2hr tour :) Volunteers and workers do a great job with this museum and maintaining respect to the artifacts :) A must see museum in WA

My grandkids enjoyed the vehicles and it would have been great if there were a few elevated platforms beside the tanks so they could have a good look at the deck and turret.

Such a massive display and collection of Australian Military History! The collection tanks and armoured vehicles were amazing, as was the scaled diorama of the Kokoda track in the WW2 section.

Great place to visit if you like military stuff. Great place to visit if you like history. Perfect place to visit if you're into military history. The huge display of tanks and guns will keep the kids happy while you learn stuff. Full guided tour for less than $20 per person. Definitely worth checking out!

Amazing place. We got a guided tour just for the four of us (no extra charge), by a lovely tall lady who was very knowledgeable about all things military. Thank you so much for doing WA a service by keeping this museum alive and kicking! As the saying goes: If we forget the past, we are doomed to repeat it. Oh and remember to bring your ID to get in. Highly recommend.

Lots to see and read. A good collection of medals, machinery and memorabilia. I learnt that it was probably your worst nightmare to be in a Japanese POW camp during WW2. They marched thousands of prisoners across the land (Sandakan death marches) and by the end few people remained.

Visited on a Sunday (today) with two adults and three primary school aged children. The staff at the entrance were friendly and helpful. Staff around the precinct were all helpful and knowledgeable, and interested to hear my own anecdotes of Australian relatives who had served in numerous battles. Thoroughly enjoyed by all age groups in our family, we all learned something. The 9-y-old boy in our family loved being able to hold real rifles! The 11 y-old girl was fascinated (but horrified) by the experience of POWs. We nearly missed going down to see the trenches in the basement and were thrilled to be able to use the periscope there. Too much interesting information to absorb in a short space of time. The bookshop had numerous new titles for sale, all of which looked like a great read. A very enjoyable experience and we hope to go again, especially as a new gallery was under construction. Thoroughly recommended. A great place to visit if you want to know more about the experiences of relatives who served.

A wonderful gem, hidden away & until today I did not know of it's existence. Wonderful buildings with an amazing history. A veritable rabbit warren, featuring displays of all conflicts that Australia has been involved in. There is so much history of the Australian Army, the uniforms, memorabilia of times long gone. One of the best & most interesting museums that I have ever seen. It could take days to see it all.

  • 4/5 Barry Y. 3 years ago on Google
Very interesting. Displays well set out. Volunteers are very friendly and informative. Need at least 2-3 hours to see it all.

Upon seeing the building for the first time, it had the appearance of being very dignified and the tanks at the front of the building were the sentinels. The exhibition has a diverse range of artefacts that are kept in pristine condition. Likewise, the external and internal; very very clean. Finally, but most importantly, the volunteers. I was so impressed from the ‘boom gate keeper’ to the blokes inside who are genuinely friendly and knowledgeable. They would spot you looking at some particular item, amble on over, provide facts and figures and then stroll off! A great bunch of blokes; well done!

Great outing as a family with older kids (upper primary and teens.) So much to see! Loads and loads of exhibits. Our personal tour guide took us from exhibition to exhibition and he was a wealth of knowledge. Displays about the history of the Western Australian Army dating from Colonial times, Boer War, World One and two, Korea, Vietnam to Afghanistan, amongst other wars. So many historical artifacts. First visit and spent two hours. Great service and interesting exhibits.

Attended the WA book launch of ‘The Victoria Cross, Australia Remembers’ – Hear the stories behind the stories of Australia’s 100 Victoria Cross Recipients from the Author Michael C. Madden. My Great, Great Uncle Lieutenant Frederick Bell was the 1st WA winner of this award for bravery. The Victoria Cross (VC) is the highest award of the United Kingdom honours system. It is awarded for gallantry "in the presence of the enemy".

Really fantastic museum, with lots of exhibits covering world war I and II as well as other wars throughout the ages. Tons of information, lots of vehicles to look at and the kids liked the trenches. We spent about 2 hours there, kids lasted just over and hour and then spent time in the sun drawing and playing with the Lego that they provided. Fantastic value for money.

Easily one of my favourite museums to have looked at! Hours of fascinating information to read through + memorabilia and replicas for all sorts. The volunteers were all super welcoming and helpful- constantly roaming around offering lil fun facts. The passion and dedication shows.

It takes approx two hours to view it all.Best if your no later than 12.30pm to view it comfortably. Plus on the day we went they closed at 3.00pm I believe. Well worth seeing the displays as they were excellent.

Museum is well maintained and has a variety of exhibits. My highlight were the vehicles parked outside the front, but I also found the colonial era history quite interesting too. Definitely worth a visit if you're interested in history

One of the best museums I’ve been to in a long time. Extensive collection covering all wars Australia has been involved with. A credit to the volunteers who make it all happen. Definitely worth a visit and give yourself plenty of time as there’s much to see.

  • 5/5 Allison S. 1 year ago on Google
This is a fantastic museum with multiple rooms containing information, memorabilia and displays. The tour guides are there to add extra information and answer questions. I particularly liked the large wall displays of newspaper articles from the various wars. An excellent experience for primary children to adults.

Visited with my 11yo son and was amazed by the experience. Very knowledgeable guides will walk you through the exhibits and provide you with any information you want to know about anything on display. I couldn’t make it up the stairs but our guide had no problem showing my son around up there without me. We could only spend 2-3 hours and this wasn’t enough to look at everything so it looks like we’ll be back! Thanks to our guides Richard and Brian and all the other friendly staff who made our visit amazing!

  • 3/5 Clinto 4 years ago on Google
Ok, but the kids were bored. You had to stay a couple of meters away from tanks etc, so you didn’t get much of a look.

  • 5/5 EricWhite 3 years ago on Google
(Translated by Google) A number of tanks on the left have been displayed at the door. The entrance mainly introduces the history of the First World War and the Second World War. The Western soldiers participated in the war. The impression is that there are many Japanese swords. After all, Australia was attacked by Japan during World War II. (Original) 門口已經展示左多款戰車, 入面主要介紹一戰同二戰澳洲歷史同埋有份參戰既西軍人, 印象深刻既就係有多把日本刀, 畢竟二戰時澳洲境內都受到日本既攻擊

Please note that, while the opening hours stated here are correct, last entry is at 1pm! We got caught out with that, arriving at 2pm on a Wednesday, and finding the "Closed" sign up. Quite restrictive hours when you want to take the children there, only works during school holidays. We will try again another day and, hopefully give it a better rating once we can get in because it looks very interesting from outside.

  • 5/5 Eddoras 3 years ago on Google
Went there some months ago well worth it. Some interesting armoured vehicles out front and great variety of displays inside of uniforms across time, battle information, even mock up of the trenches. Ran out of time as there was so much to see!

Wanting to go to See this place for years, A very good History place to go to see the Military History, however please do be careful of very poor Service form the time you step in as there a lot of Volunteer staff who are there, however they seem to be busy to assist you. 1) When we went to buy the Tickets to get in the lady sitting there was not interested in serving us and she kept on talking to a volunteer staff for some time rather then assisting us, there was no communication, just that it will be $30 & you are on your own from thereon. 2) In some of the halls of the venue there were some staff who were not willing to show us or even talk to us & explain so we were a bit lost. We saw the museum in a hurry & got out as we thought that it was a waste of money & time as we drove to the place for an hour to get there If anyone is in charge & if they read this review it would be worth talking to all the staff & explain to them the importance of local & foreign tourist to this nice museum

I was visiting from Toronto, my cousin brought me to the museum and we were greeted at the entrance and provided with a personal guided tour. David was enthusiastic and guided us though all the exhibits, with clear explanations and amazing stories about the various campaigns, as well as stories about some of the individuals. This is the gold standard on how guides tours should be given!
