We stopped in after shopping in Old Port as we had heard good things. First, what a cool environment and great food. We brought our toddler with us who was treated great by the wait staff and loved the food. The noise level was also great and provided cover for intimate conversations and our toddler being their usual self. Also, do yourself a favor and get the calamari appetizer.

We wanted to love this place but just could not. The hostess was nice and wished me happy birthday. Our dinner took 2.5 hours and we blame the waiter. Tables sat down and ate before we even got our food. They forgot my husband's fries. He would have preferred his steak over the fries and that is what he thought he was getting. The food was good but slightly over priced. We want to try the apps and may return for a visit at the bar.

My husband took me to Portland Maine for my birthday weekend and we had dinner at The Grill Room and Bar the second night of our trip. As a native New Yorker, we're foodies and well versed in what pristine, exceptional food really is. If you have ever been to NYC, then you know what I mean. I never really expected to find exceptional food anywhere outside of the five boroughs of NYC that I am honored to call home, however, the Grill Room and Bar truly BLEW ME AWAY! Everything from the moment we walked in, was top notch. We started with appetizers, which were Shrimp cocktail and a classic Caesar salad. The shrimp cocktail was the best I think I have ever had. Such succulent, large shrimp with the perfect cocktail sauce to match. The caesar salad dressing was homemade and divine. For entrees, we had the Ribeye entrée which was paired with horseradish mashed potatoes, asparagus and a blue cheese fondue. Legit, it was beyond incredible. It was the best $60 I have ever spent. My husband had the Rainbow Trout entrée which he said was top of the line as well. The drinks were great too! My husband had about four of their blackberry lemonade vodka special...I took a taste and it was delicious. I finished the meal with their caramel chocolate ganache cheesecake, which also pleased this native New Yorker! Our waiter was also super personable, friendly, polite and attentive. He was worth every bit of the 22% tip we left! Another great experience was watching the Chef in action, cooking and preparing every meal in front of us. (Just happened to be seated right where he prepares it all). Everything was just top of the line, that I can see why Portland ME is at the top of the countries"foodie list!" If you're visiting Portland, GO HERE! And, if you go and you don't like it, then you do not know good food when you eat it. Simple as that. Thank you to the Grill Room and Bar, Chef, and our amazing waiter for making my birthday weekend one I will never forget. I will miss every bite!

Super relaxed atmosphere, food that smells incredible and tastes just the same. Good cocktails , cuts of meat and preparation. Service was good. Dinner consisted of a ribeye with shiitake mushrooms and asparagus. Great combination!

Hungry for a good burger, how about a craft pizza, or maybe seafood, or a good steak? Rarely can you find a restaurant that can cover such a wide array of cuisines, but that is exactly what this urban eatery does. With a focus on quality ingredients including grass fed beef, and locally sourced organic produce, The Grill Room & Bar will surely have something for everyone. Want to try something out of the box but that utilizes a local favorite, how about their lobster pizza. This is a treat for any pizza or seafood lover. The pizza is expertly prepared in their incredible wood fire grill. The crust is crispy and charred, and the lobster is plentiful and fresh.

Great atmosphere and friendly staff! Ryan and Chelsea do a great job at the bar. Myles does a great job in the dining room. If your lucky enough to be paired with any of them, your going to have an amazing time.

I heard this place was one of the best in Portland, and it definitely lived up to the hype! Me and my boyfriend came here for my birthday and our server (Alanna) was courteous, funny, and had all the answers to our questions as well as great suggestions on what to order! The restaurant is well organized and from some tables you can see almost the whole kitchen, which I thought was super cool. I got the filet mignon with roasted mushrooms and potato aligot- it was divine. My boyfriend got the salmon and broccolini which he also enjoyed greatly. We finished with the blood orange sorbet which was perfect to round out the night. All in all, we loved our experience and if we lived in the area I'm sure we'd return for future special occasions!

We had a nice dinner here with family from overseas. The steaks were great, the veggies great, and the staff were helpful and friendly. The price is much higher than advertised. Instead of $30 pretty person we were looking at closer to $60 per person. But no complaints otherwise.

Had a really lovely experience here for my birthday! Our server was sweet and accommodating....the food was so fresh, prepped with love, and came out in a timely way.. we ordered quite a bit off the menu but my favorite part was the steak tartare appetizer. Also got the tomahawk, lots of veggies and aligot potatoes, which were incredible. I'd highly recommend!

Came here for my birthday and honestly this was by far the best restaurant I’ve ever been to. The food was definitely delicious and the waiting staff was so friendly and polite. If you’re looking for an upscale top of the line place to eat this place is for you. We plan on making this our go to spot.

I’ve eaten at the Grill Room many times over the years and know what to expect. My meal was as described and very good. I had the pork chop with horseradish mashed potatoes. My issue for this particular visit was my beverage. Guinness is my go to alcoholic beverage of choice and I’ve had more than a few pints here in the past. I understand this beverage is likely not a bartenders favorite because the proper pour is a bit more time consuming. What I was served though, twice, is embarrassing for an establishment with Guinness on draught. I would have been better off pouring my own from a nitro can. Frankly, as much concern as our server showed for our entrees, he should have looked at my beer, which was basically a half pint of head, and offered a re-pour. Hopefully the bartenders on staff will be taught how to pour a proper pint of Guinness.

Hands down the best culinary experience we have had in Portland. Server was extremely knowledgeable and kind, food was near perfect (highly suggest the Steak Frites and the bone marrow appetizer) will definitely head back next time in town.

Wow. Just wow. We were a bit nervous after some of the reviews. However, our expectations were exceeded. Service, Food, and Atmosphere were 10/10! We opted for the Chef Counter and really enjoyed watching them work while we enjoyed cocktails/food. We enjoyed the special of the lamb belly, the wedge salad, and the French onion soup to start. Rounding out our meals with filet and duck. Sharing the spicy broccoli rabe and lobster mashed. Everything was cooked perfectly. If I had the smallest complaint it would be that the duck skin was not crisp at all. And that could just be a personal preference. Our server was fantastic, offering great suggestions and ensured our food was coursed food perfectly. A bit on the pricey side, but worth a visit at least once.

Run don’t walk!! Our experience here was 11/10! Our server Julio was attentive, kind, and charismatic. Alex put on a show working the kitchen around our view at the Chef’s counter, and everything from the food to the drinks was executed perfectly. We can’t recommend this restaurant enough! It absolutely exceeded every expectation we had and is giving our other Portland favorites a run for their money. We’ll definitely be returning. Thank you!!

Exceptional! Best steaks in Maine, amazing service, warm vibes and atmosphere this place has it going on! Don’t sleep on the horseradish cream sauce btw.

Had the chef’s counter experience and it exceeded our expectations. Staff was amazing and the food was even better. Everything came out promptly and filled us up quickly. Will absolutely come back especially for the bone marrow dish!

Went here for dinner and had the French onion soup which is amazing and me and my girlfriend got the ribeye and sirloin entree. Everything was delicious and cooked to perfection with care and thought behind each dish. The service was phenomenal and our waitress was very kind, informative and attentive. The portions are great too especially for the price. Will definitely be coming back.

Ridiculously overpriced. I feel like I was robbed. I ordered the scallops entree and I am filled with great regret. I got the lobster added on as they claimed it was a special and let me tell you - it was beyond ludicrous what they charged me $61 for!! I really think they should not have called this lobster but more like essence of the lobster… I added the bread on the plate so it wouldn’t look so empty. I am ashamed to say I left and had to find food because I was still very hungry. I would NEVER go back and I surely won’t be recommending anyone to visit. I really want back my money if I’m being honest cause this is going to haunt me for years!

Everything from beginning to end was great. Our waitress Tiffany was so informative on the menu. We sat at the chefs table and the back of the house was friendly as well. You’ll spend a little more but your portions will be more and you’ll experience more. I’d highly recommend this place.

Nice place but a priced a bit high. The food was great, but the entrees were expensive. Was the food good? Yes, but if I'm spending that amount I'd rather go to some other spots in Portland. The food was tasty and the server was new, but very helpful and willing to ask questions in the kitchen. The drinks were well made. No kids menu. They do not offer pasta or other options so I had to get my daughter a $30 burger.

Incredible dinner and even better service. The staff was exceptional, including the hostess who thanked my husband and I for only waiting a short time for our tables. Our server, Ryan, was fantastic even though it was a little rainy outside where we were eating, and shared a ton about his favorite places to go in Bar Harbor (where we were going next) and where to stop along the way. We have a few days left but so far have taken all of his advice and it’s all exceptional. He made a great dinner experience and exceptional one.

Food was impressive, ambiance was cozy, service was fantastic. Perfect place for dinner with a love, friends, or family. Bartender (I think his name was Ryan,) was truly top notch. Solid drinks, great personality, and really added to the fun without being intrusive.
