Renaissance, similar to the rundown under construction feel of "Escape to the Chateau" without the history narrative or castle renovation charm. I planned a fun weekend with a friend at the botanical gardens and most of the amenities were under construction or in disrepair.. overall it was disappointing compared to the online pictures it is a pale ecco of it's former glory. Let's start with the room... the word is run down. The phone to call the front desk didn't work, bathroom door needed repair (done during stay) the moulding was coming off the baseboards and the douvet top sheet was thread bare. Overall the staff was nice but stressed due to the lack of general maintenance. They get 4 stars for showing up and trying their best. Seems they have paved over the pool, the lobby is being renovated and the hotel restaurant leaves quite a lot to be desired. I booked the suburban location to be near the gardens and have some on-property amenities. No such luck. Great location if you're wanting to visit the botanical gardens but probably somewhere you'd only want to stay 1-2 nights because not much else is around. Was probably very nice 24-36 months ago but struggling to keep pace with required updates to compete with other hospitality options.

I've been to at least 10 Renaissance hotels around the world, and this is easily the worst Renaissance hotel I've lived at. The service was terrible. There was no hairdryer when we checked in, and when I tried to call the front desk, nobody answered, so I had to come to the reception. Also, they weren't able to provide any slippers. The buildings are quite old, and due to renovation, only half the amenities are open. Sound insulation is terrible. We were hearing constant door slamming and children screaming, despite us staying in a CORNER ROOM! We got woken up before 7AM on both days we stayed there. The shower has very low water pressure, and it takes half an hour to do a "quick" shower. There's also no access control for the elevators, which means non hotel guests can get to any floor they want. Fortunately, this neighborhood is relatively safe, so this won't pose too much of a security risk. The only upside is the price. We booked two nights for $135/night, after taxes and fees, which is a good deal for the Chicago area around the memorial weekend. However, with the problems mentioned above, this hotel isn't worth the price.

I went to the hotel for Memorial Day weekend, I was thinking a 4 star hotel would be a nice get away. The towel were not clean in the room and had holes in them. The duvet had stains on it, when I approached the manager they offered us free breakfast tickets which we were grateful for but I can't lie I expected so much more, like a pool, spa, free wifi, free breakfast. The room was very basic and needed a good dusting. The hotel hallway had food in the corners and had not been vacuum. I really was not impressed when we shared our concern management said since we paid in full she couldn't refund us or price adjust. 🙄

I was trying to extend my stay for one extra night, the front desk person wasn't helpful at all, she wanted me to book again using whatever platform I used in the first place, instead of helping me getting an extra night and charge me the difference, they are the front desk of course she can do that, I needed to talk to other person because she did not want to do it. The location is a bit off the grid but the building is nice, all feels new and sofisticated, room was big enough and everything was perfectly clean. On the down side the wifi is not free, yes in 2023 is not free.

CATALYTIC CONVERTER THEFT: We stayed here for a wedding and the room was very nice and clean. However, our car, parked in the hotel lot had its catalytic converter stolen overnight. Unfortunately, there are no cameras on the parking lots so the police couldn't do anything. The GM returned my voicemail and did comp our room which was very appreciated (but not much to offset the cost of a new catalytic converter). The theft of catalytic converters is not unique to this hotel, but its proximity to 94 definitely makes it a target. I personally feel like putting in cameras is an important step the hotel should take. A Marriott should provide some level of security. I'm a student and this financial loss is not easily absorbed. Just be aware!

Room was impeccable. Check in was friendly, efficient, and hassle-free. Daily free, fresh fruit in the lobby for guests. Prices were a lot less since you're north of downtown Chicago. Accessible by quick drive to premium stores, bitanical gardens, eateries, a golf course and the highway to EVERYWHERE. Will def. Stay here again.

The rooms and facility are a little dated. They still use shower curtains (why EVERY high end hotel hasn’t switched to glass by now is offensive) the bathrooms have tiny sinks. The staff was nice, but when I asked about a Titanium upgrade, they said I was already upgraded (I booked the room I got) so I didn’t get one. Oh well. The lounge was nice, but under stocked. Decent rate though.

Worst hotel experience I’ve ever had. My room was filthy dirty, especially the bathroom. There was dirty floss on the ground, nail clippings, dust and grime, crumbs and threads all over the ground, hair in the shower. I complained about the mess because I don’t think it was cleaned before I checked in and I was assured it would be cleaned on my second day. No one came to clean it. At that point I assumed the bed was probably not clean but I had no other choice but to sleep in it again. The mini fridge was inside a cabinet that made it impossible to access or open. Poor design and almost intentional disregard for guests needs. All the common spaces of the hotel were dirty too. One functioning elevator to use from the 9th floor with many guests often waiting. No communication to guests about when our wedding group shuttle was coming to take us to the reception. No special care for wedding guests whatsoever. No breakfast or coffee offered. Just don’t waste your money going here. All it has to offer is that it’s walking distance from a Starbucks and potbelly’s.

Despite some initial hesitance due to mixed reviews, I was ultimately pleased with my stay at this hotel. The staff was welcoming and courteous, contributing to a positive overall experience. The room provided was generally well-maintained and comfortable. However, the bathrooms seemed somewhat dated, detracting slightly from the otherwise high standard of the room. A particular area for improvement would be the bathtub - replacing the existing tubs with walk-in showers could significantly enhance the comfort and modernity of the bathrooms. The curved bottoms of the tubs were notably uncomfortable. The hotel's steakhouse was a highlight of my stay, providing an enjoyable dining experience within the hotel itself. On the other hand, the buffet breakfast, while adequate, could have been better. It didn't quite meet the expectations set by the other amenities offered by the hotel. Following the advice of previous guests in their reviews, I requested a room away from the highway. This resulted in a quiet and comfortable setting, and I would recommend future guests to do the same, if noise is a concern. Overall, despite a few areas for improvement, my stay was largely enjoyable thanks to the hotel's welcoming staff, quality steakhouse, and comfortable room.

My experience at the hotel was pretty good but became Exceedingly Memorable and Excellent because of Angela at the front desk. I felt like I was in good hands and well taken care of. There was a sense of she was going above and beyond what is expected of her. I hope she gets the credit or raise for what looks like possibly doing the job of others as well. I will return and recommend this to many others because of Angela. Thanks again Angela for making my stay better and accommodating my needs. Mandy Haag

Biggest problem with this place is it’s in a food desert on a stroad. There is nothing to eat around here so the only food available is a mediocre breakfast for $19 and bad coffee for almost $4. They have no espresso options and the Starbucks across the street is closed for construction. Additionally, the hotel is quite large but they have a dinky fitness center in the basement and no green space immediately adjacent to the hotel. If you’re traveling here without a car you’re screwed.

Room totally noisy I asked help to change the room and one person (Tony) was very rude, impolite! Wi fi only paid and many problems because it didn't work. Also the second room noisy. It was a nightmare for me!

Boy do cameras work wonders. I feel like I got catfished by a hotel. Let me start by saying that everyone who worked there was freaking awesome!! The front desk staff was amazing, the club lounge attendant was awesome, even the housekeepers were great. Apparently this place got a facelift not too long ago. I'd hate to see what it looked like before. You can somehow see light all around the door. Which means you can hear EVERYTHING. The rooms were pretty gross. Not clean at all. It was extremely hot everywhere. Yes, it was hot outside, but I feel like they didn't have any AC in a lot of common areas. The club lounge was a nice touch, but the free food in it was not edible. We ordered from the restaurant and ate in the lounge. Please don't get lost in this review and forget what I said about the people. They were seriously the only thing that saved us from just leaving after the first night and staying somewhere else.

We were here for a wedding and stayed the night. The room was clean, bed was very comfy and there was plenty of room for hanging clothes and a full length mirror. For the wedding reception, it was difficult to get water refills at the table. I finally asked for the waiter to leave a pitcher at our table so I didn't have to keep tracking them down. Dinner service was slow and we weren't told about dessert being outside the room. Service overall for the reception was not good.

Nice staff but hotel itself is ready for a remodel. Room was a bit dated- haven’t had a shower in a bathtub in awhile. Decor is odd and dark toned, lots of gray and black. - designer hired must have been eccentric- see pictures - very nice location.

I recently stayed at this hotel and found the experience to be average. While the amenities were decent, I have to say that the pictures posted online were somewhat misleading. Although the hotel looked great in the photos, it didn't quite live up to my expectations in reality. That being said, the staff was friendly and helpful, and the room was clean and comfortable enough. It was an okay stay, but I wouldn't necessarily go out of my way to recommend it to others. Overall, if you're looking for a basic hotel with decent amenities and don't have high expectations, this could be a good choice.

Clean hotel with modern and well maintained rooms. It kind of reminds me of Aloft, but less eclectic. If I need to travel for work in the area again, this will definitely be my choice. It should be noted too, the laundry on site is reasonably priced which is a huge plus for me.

We decided to stay here for our anniversary and the fact we dined at Ruth Chris. The pros: comfortable bed, clean room, ample free parking, Ruth Chris steak house inside hotel. Accommodating and pleasant staff I’m claustrophobic and always request low floors she gave me the 2nd floor room 218 which was close to the the stairs since I don’t take elevators I appreciated that. Cons: Swing doors on the bathroom that don’t stay closed, no phone in the room which was so odd if you want room service, towels or anything else you gotta use your mobile phone, ice machine was out on 2nd, 3rd and 4th floor. My husband had to go to the front desk and the attendant got him some ice out of the lounge after she suggested trying the 3rd floor and he told her 3rd and 4th floor ice machines are down too. No microwave in the room but you do get a safe, refrigerator , coffee maker, and a couple of complimentary bottles of water. Overall I feel indifferent about this hotel I’m glad it was just for one night and I did expect more for $287 for one night at a 4 star hotel.

Good points: breakfast and restaurant services were good. Bad points: noisy rooms (I had to change the first room given as it faces the motorway but the second one wasn’t much better as I don’t think they have double glazing), dirty room (towels were stained, shower curtains torn, debris along the bottom of the mattress), the room was not tidied when I left it and one of the reception staff wasn’t very honest when she said I had to request for room tidy. Only when I spoke with my colleagues that I realized they had their rooms tidied, which led to us complaining to the manager. I would have gave them 1 star if it weren’t for the polite manager, Amber, who helped me sort out some hotel points. Otherwise it was a dreadful experience.

Went to a banquet here recently. Great location, close to the highway amd nice rooms if you spend the night. The service was the most memorable, as it was very good for the banquet. Clean room, food was good, but always difficult to nail for a large room, often resulting on overdone steaks and fish.

This place is so amazing compared with pricing. Staff is so welcoming and available for any questions, and the room was so nice! Conveniently near town to go places when you don’t want to be cooped up in your room all day, and checking in and out was smooth and easy. 9/10 recommend and definitely coming back.

BEWARE: We paid $159.00 in advance for a one night stay on July 1st, 2023. We selected a single room with double queen beds as we were on vacay with our 2 teenage kids. Upon arrival, the front desk girls were having a hard time finding the reservation. They called Amber; Director of Front Desk, who was able to quickly resolve the issue. She asked for my card to hold a $50.00 incidental fee upon check in. That night our family went to supper and our card was declined as over the daily limit. When looking at my account, I recognized 2 more pending charges for $160.00 plus and another for $130.00 plus for this room. The family had to leave the restraunt supperless and embarassed. We went back to the hotel to see what happened. No manager was on duty and Amber was off the next few days and I was quite confused about the charges as we had already paid for the hotel in advance. The girls at the front desk said there was a mistake and we had been charged twice for the room instead if the incidental fee but there was nothing they could do as it was holiday and there was no supervisor or manger on duty. They stated they had a new card reader and that it was charging people double but they werent sure why. I was wonderimg how many other "Guests" this has happened to? ALSO, THE CHARGES WERE ALL DIFFERENT, so things were really starting to get frustrating as there was no clear reason or resolve. They left me Stephen Barr's card the G.M. of the Chicago Northshore Hotel as well as a number to contact Amber the Director who assisted us in the first place. After 6 days and several unreturned phone calls and several emails to corporate, I still have only talked to 1 person....the same front desk girl. The total cost ended up at $452.00 for a single night stay. I would avoid it. It is a nice hotel and a great location but not worth the time and energy of getting the money back and the fact that they new there machine was overcharging but continued to cheat people anyway is very disappointing.

This hotel is perfect for business or quiet weekend away. Great place , good food, good people, complimentary shuttle, great prices. If you have a problem, tell them and they fix it quick. What else do you need. World class steak house attached to hotel and its also amazing.

Standout staff. Accommodating and truly kind. Rooms were fine, although both rooms I stayed in had issues with shower temp and water pressure, and multiple common areas like the bar and restaurant were under renovation. They did their best. Overall this is an outstanding property under renovation to keep up the standard of service you expect from their brand. A great place to stay. The attached Ruth's Chris Steakhouse is a game changer.

This was a very nice place to stay, especially for the price. The room was clean and nice. The breakfast was good and the drinks at the bar as well. The staff was very friendly and we really appreciated that the front desk was on the ball with any issues/requests we have. Would we come back to stay here? Yes.

We spent a week here and it’s in the middle of nowhere. The check in staff were rude and horrible, and don’t know what they are doing. They can’t even find the name to check in properly until acknowledging that it was their mistake. When you call the reception’s desk, no one answers for a really long time and you have to call back. We had a toilet that was clogged and we couldn’t get anyone to answer the phone. Don’t even think about having something fun to do at this hotel because there’s no pool or roof deck or anything. Worst hotel experience ever.

Beware that they make it seem like the breakfast is complimentary but it's not. $16 per person for what isn't anything special. Same quality as what other hotels provide complimentary. Note: switched my rating after the hotel reimbursed the breakfast. Thank you Stephen

I was about to start liking this hotel unless i found a very rude front desk staff. I asked him for few bottles of water and he lied that i have only two bottles and suddenly my friend come and he took other bottles out beneath the desk and hand over it to him.! My concern if he does not want to give me why he lied he could have told me that i will only give you two bottles i would have accepted that. I never seen such rude behaviour from front desk person.! Entire cricket teams are staying here so i am just completing my days here till Tuesday. But this will be my last ever stay here and will make sure no groups of ours will ever book this hotel for any of our event.

Just to start, we had to move rooms several times. The first room was leaking tremendous amounts of water from under the toilet (totally not a problem, things happen) the next room we were given was dirty and hadn’t been cleaned after the previous guest. Okay… our third room was cleaned but missing soap and towels. Ummm? We are embarking upon our second night of the stay. I’ve come back to the room, the housekeeping tip was collected but the foot towel is gone (without replacement) and the comforter was just pulled up over the rumpled to the bottom of the bed sheets. Perhaps my expectations are too high?

We had such a great experience from beginning to end-but the highlight standout was our shuttle driver Tony! He got us to and from our desired destination with enjoyable conversation, exceptional customer service and a sincere wish that there were more humans like this in the world. Thank you for taking such good care of us, adjusting to our changing plans and entertaining and explaining our musings about this beautiful hotel. Much like our rooms had the word “untamed” lit up under the bedside table, our experience here this weekend was likewise in the best way. Above and beyond and the most respectful compliment I can think to give this fine establishment is stay untamed! And Tony your name badge should definitely say Untamed Tony! Thank you thank you!!

This was the WORST hotel for customer service. We booked a king in a months advance, and after driving for hours we get to our room and it’s two twin beds. They told us nothing could be done because there was a wedding and they gave up our room. There was no ‘Thank you’ from the front desk staff or ‘sorry for the inconvenience’. There was no information on when breakfast is or how to even get breakfast. There is no information for room service. The room was not stocked, only two towels and no soap. Overall, the worst hotel I’ve stayed in Chicago and we stay 5 times a year.

Place is nice, clean, and quiet. We stayed for the long weekend for the 4th of July- they did great, even brought us a microwave to the room for the long weekend. Only wish they would supply the room better, like coffee, creamer, shampoo, daily without having to call. However did bring the items when requested.

The furniture in the lobby needs great Great help. There's a purple chair there that is probably the funniest I've seen in any hotel... Rooms are big and clean, at least the one that I was in and the people at the front desk were very very nice. They seriously need somebody with some North shore taste though in furniture.

Spent 4 nights here. It was a wonderful and beautiful hotel. Rooms where clean. Hallways were clean. Beds where comfortable. Everything was perfect with this hotel. Very satisfied with my stay. Next time we need to come up, will definitely be using this hotel.

Very convenient location and comfortable stay. Courteous service. Rooms are spacious and equipped with basics. Contemporary design. The only one thing we felt uncomfortable about the bathroom sliding glass doors. Doesn't feel private even with the frosted glass it was uncomfortable to use with family and kids around. Overall it was a nice experience staying at the hotel.
